  • Camino de Santiago - The Way of St James - via Podiensis
This is my story about "My Way" to Santiago de Compostela and The End of The World.
An over 1600 km long journey.
I walked the Way of St James ( via Podiensis, Chemin de Compostelle) and started
    in Le Puy-en-Velay, France , Easter 2017.
After I had walked to Saint Jean Pied de Port, I continued over the Pyrenees and along Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela (Galicia Spain) and ended my hike at Cabo de Finisterre. (Fisterra in Galician)
Before I started my hike, I was looking for information about how it might be to make a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. And I discovered that video clips that I found on UA-cam were inspiring and helpful. So I want to do similar to others that are planing to walk a Camino.
That's why I share my hike so that you who need information or inspiration can get it through my film.
This video is 3 hour long and I have mixed photos and video clips. It's not focused on tourism, it's more a film about life on the road. I also tells short stories from thing that happen to me during my Camino.
I learned a lot about myself and others and about life itself during my Camino.
And you can see in the video how I was changed in body and mindset.
I hope you will enjoy watching.
If you don't have the opportunity to watch the entire video from beginning to end at once,
I will below give you some notes on times where different steps can be found.
    00:01:23 Le Puy
    00:24:45 Conques
    00:41:35 Moissac
01:08:39 Saint Jean Pied de Port
01:10:24 Fly overview (Google earth) of Pyrenees
    01:12:45 Pyrenees
    01:43:04 Burgos
    01:51:04 In the Meseta
    02:01:08 Leon
    02:07:12 Foncebadon
    02:16:00 Ponferrada
02:34:03 Santiago de Compostela (part 1)
    02:47:18 Cabo de Finisterre (Fisterra)
    02.57:59 The swinging botafumeiro.
    A special thanks to:
Google Earth that gave me the possibility to use maps in my film,
Bensound "www.bensound.co..." and UA-cam music library for music.
I used a Iphone 5 and a GoPro 5 black to film. No additional sound gear.

I saw now this video a second & third time and in my opinion it is one of best videos about the camino. It shows the nice sides and the not so nice sides of the camino. It tells also something about the insights, experiences and emotions one has when walking such a distance. I recommend it to everyone who wants to know something about the camino.

Last month (October 2022) I walked the Camino Frances from Villavante to Santiago de Compostela. From this video I remembered that it was important for you that at Cruz de Ferro a Spanish family offered you a hug even though you did not ask for it. When I arrived at Cruz de Ferro I put my backpack against the fence. A woman next to me was struggling with her emotions so I asked her : "Do you want a hug?". She did and she cried her heart out. She thanked me for the hug and I wished her all the best for the remainder of her Camino. I have not seen her again.

I finished watching your walk from Le Puy to Santiago a couple of days ago. Your story and filming are superb.
Your attitude to the Camino reflects my own approach which I found interesting.
I am a 73 year old Scot who walked my first Camino in 2007 and my most recent last August/September.
I was due to walk the Seville to Santiago Camino in May but a severe reaction to the Pfizer booster has prevented me from doing so....my hope now is to walk the route and arrive in Santiago on my 75th birthday next December.
I am regaining my fitness slowly and am presently preeparing to walk the Porto Central route followed (hopefully) by the Camino Ingles later this month.
Meanwhile I am satisfying myself with watching Camino videos.
I also enjoyed watching your Portuguese Central route with Camilla...I found it very useful for my own planning.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and congratulations on your engagement to Camilla....say hi to her.

Startade 18 maj 2017 från Saint Jean Pied de Port men gick inte alls lika långa sträckor som dig så för mig tog det ca 5 v till Santiago. Blev väldigt rörd några gånger under filmen. Cities I recommend; If you are walking via podensis in France 🇫🇷 Moissac or Conques, Camino Frances 🇪🇸 Pamplona Camino Portuguese 🇵🇹 Ponte de Lima or Valenca Camino Norte Bilbao, Santander or if you want to visit a looooong beach Laredo.
Sometimes you can find yourself in a small village/town that has an annual festival.
Days when it may be closed are often Sundays but also Mondays. Also on public holidays/church days.
My experience says that often you can find markets in different localities on weekends.

I'm curious, if there's no bed in any of the alberque, can you just camp in a park?

I don't know if it's allowed. I know some hikers that slept under a tree or under the stars, but if you want to camp I think you should ask permission from the landowner.

Great video, thanks for sharing... I remembered many places as you walked by; some others I didn’t see bc I also made mistakes going out of the way. I wonder how you remembered all the details? Did you journal or recording? Thanks. Can’t wait to go back.

Hi, thank’s 🙏 for watching. In the office in Santiago they said it’s 1515 km from Le Puy to Santiago and then you add 89km to Finisterre. 😃 But you know I walked wrong way serveral times during my journey and then add the free km in the cities 🤪 so I don’t really know how many km I walked 😂😅 And I hope you can do your Camino when it’s calling for you. Bra gjort! BUEN CAMINO

@@thomasthomsen6763 no I made mistakes with my equipment especially the choice of socks and shoes. I had new shoes and they were in Gore tex. and it was to much asphalt to walk on. So me feet fell apart. The strength in body was no problem.

I love your documentary and I hope I'll get the chance to do the Camino. I was really focused on watching your vlog that I couldn't help but notice you spent thinking of your 6 Euro. Why???!!! I know money is money but as a pilgrim, I wouldn't even bother if I give that money to someone in need even when the other person says that he'll it pay it back. Unless, of course, it is 600 Euro, which I wouldn't have anyway.

Thanks 🙏 I’m asking my self the same. 6 euro when he needed 12. I don’t know. It’s not about the amount of money it was more about the situation, helping others and things you are afraid of.
I think I needed to learn something. You know, walking a Camino is to learn.
I hope you will have a great journey when the chance for your Camino appears.
