Yes, Back in the Sixties, Many groups had a distinct sound that was all their own, instantly recognizable and thrilling. The Zombies had that very cool, jazz/rock vibe to their sound and lyrics that worked so well together. One gets such a powerful sense of this seductive but mysterious , incomprehensible Woman... Well, Let me tell you 'bout the way she looked, the way she act, the color of her hair, Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright... But She's Not There... WOW... Amazing!!!
The background vocals and breathing sounds were exceptionally good! The sound was perfect. Unfortunately, the group had some growing pains which was typical of young people and they had to take time off from each other for awhile. Such is life.
The kinks. Now there was a band that was different. In the best way I mean. You know a young guy can’t buy everything but I definitely bought the kinks albums. They had 45s back then. 99 cents. lol. True
I can only imagine how many times you think about returning home. My Dad came home in a body cast with a metal bar between his legs. He was the only person to return from Vietnam in 1966. He was in a hospital bed in our living room for 16 mths. He retired in 1968 & that's his greatest accomplishment making it the last two years to make the 20 yrs of army service. Thank fuck for that. I don't need musicians to be good looking and to behave, i need them to sound great and be an amazing experience live. For example take Brett Hoffman (i know, different genre but valid as an example), topless except an open vest, jeans, long sweaty hair (well not sweaty at the start of the concert) but the stage presence and the energy that you could feel was just over the top. Sadly he won't come back as well, fuck cancer.
The keyboard in the recording is actually a Hohner electric piano. One of the coolest sounding electric pianos ever. Difficult to play because it had no sustain pedal. The keyboard in the video is a Vox Continental organ.

Might I suggest that's because most of the so-called music today has all been influenced by what the originals did all those years ago & really just rehashes & reshapes what has already been done. Just a theory

It has to be the most poignant and atmospheric songs of it's era. Timeless, haunting and you never tire of hearing it. An outstanding and profoundly creative aural masterpiece.
I was still in HS when this song was released. Graduated in 1969 and joined the USMC in June of 1969. I knew I'd end up in Vietnam which I did in '71-'72. I had a death wish back then and knew I'd be killed in Vietnam. Now I'm glad I made it home. This song reminds me of the life and loves of the sixties and seventies when music was music and girls were girls.
Good bless you my friend. I was born in 64 and still don't quite understand. I had 2 brothers drafted ( 1 in Vietnam, 1 waiting to go). What you did for our country far outweighs any song. You have the right to do anything you want. You deserve it brother!
Wow! This still sends chills up and down my spine! It's pure electricity. And in that era, there was electricity like that, practically every week, for an entire decade! It's still mind-blowing, even now. OMG!

Rod Argent on keyboards wrote most of the music and contributed to a lot of the lyrics. He had a successful career after the Zombies broke up. 1st with his own band Argent then as a composer for films and television, record producer and session musician. Rod and his wife have been married 50 years. That is rare in normal society and even more rare in the entertainment business.
Rod and Colin got back together in 2001, they added Rod's cousin Jim Rodford and his son Steve to their new lineup and added Keith Airey as lead guitarist before Tom Toomey took over sometime in the late 2000's. Then Jim Rodford died in 2018. Chris White and Hugh Grundy reunited with Rod and Colin for the 50th anniversary of the Odyssey and Oracle release. Sadly, Paul Atkinson died in 2004.

@@salvadormarley Yes, i think that can be the case. For example you can tell much of the 50's and 40's music is dated and not great in comparison to much of the music decades after.
While many bands in the 60's went the psychedelic route with their music, bands like The Zombies, The Doors, and Donovan combined rock with jazz. I think that's why their music is timeless...

When he came out on stage, he got a standing ovation before he even opened his mouth. It was electrifying! He looked bewildered and surprised to get such a response. It’s one of my favorite memories. Eric Burdon was part of this show too. What a great evening!
@@pearlschoice1988 What fantastic memories you have ,, never to be forgotten its rather lovely lol x

The song is over 50 years old, and still works today as well as ever.
Yes is a,master piece of rock
Better than all the shit nowadays.
That bossa-nova beat just makes it. This is one of my favorite bands of the 60s.
@@michaelolz I think they have a unique sound.
They stand above most of today's auto tune musician wannabes.

Hello Jean, How are you doing?
The kinks. Now there was a band that was different. In the best way I mean. You know a young guy can’t buy everything but I definitely bought the kinks albums. They had 45s back then. 99 cents. lol. True
Colin Blunstone's voice is incomparable. Wonderful. Rod Argent is such a huge influence on music. What a band!
I agree!
@@ppiper396 Ditto
They have a new album called “Different Game”.
Me and Ted Bundy would vibe this
This would make a great audition song for a vocalist.
60s and 70s music is Britain’s greatest contribution to the planet.Unbeateble.
Just felt like sharing which isn't often. Hope you're having a great day!

As a teen of the 60's who's heard it all, this group was the #1 underrated groups of the era. Such a unique semi-soft mesmerizing style.
Boris Dujovic ...Their music was hauntingly beautiful...

Bok Yoy I really envy you I would love to live the age I am now in that great era
The only problem about this song is its too short
Live versions are longer!
Yes but a great memory jerker wonderful memory.
songs mostly had to have air play on radio then to be promoted, alas they couldn't be too long. Time had to made for commercials to air etc.
Most songs were only 2 min long. At least they didn't bore us with them being too long filled with silly lyrics and swearing
I also feel like the chorus could have been repeated 1-2x every time to stretch the song to at least 3 min..
A very underrated band
Edit: ok calm down, so what if my comment is overrated? No ones telling you to read it
not back in the day
op. a very overrated comment lol
AAAhhh...no.
always the same comment, please is so stupid
What I like best about music is about music is its color blind✌️
Colin Blunstone to me was one of the most underrated singers in the history of rock, along with Paul Carrack
he's 75 go see him perform before he dies.
His voice is still good and he's still performing
And Jeff Beck...
Gary Pucket belongs on the list to. His voice was exceptional. Young Girls, Woman Woman and Lady Willpower. Fantastic.
@@rockinblue978 Saw him a couple of years ago and that voice was still sweet.
Dressed, polished, presented. A bygone era. Enjoy, it ain't coming back.
Yes, because everyone who dressed well and presented themselves well died in the 80's and Western music is now being actively destroyed by the millenials and Gen Z.
@@jaimeguerrero7320 Not me. Additionally I still like cowboy movies, especially The Magnificent Seven, 1960, The Cowboys, True Grit, Ol Yeller, Hang em High, few others.
Exactly. Nothing like it.
Pity.
I attended a Zombies concert not too long ago and I'm surprised they're still performing. One of the best concerts, ever. The audience just roared!

The voice of Colin Blunstone is like no other. he's perfect!! I'll never get tired listening to him and the bass line and the hammond....
Colin Blunstone has several excellent solo albums. He also was a member of the Alan Parsons Project.
The keyboard in the recording is actually a Hohner electric piano. One of the coolest sounding electric pianos ever. Difficult to play because it had no sustain pedal. The keyboard in the video is a Vox Continental organ.
Not a Hammond a Hohner Pianet.
@@plumicon And it was played by Rod Argent, later of Spooky Tooth and Argent ("Hold Your Head Up")
@@anthonypfranco Rod Argent is the best. When this came out around 65 I was in high school. My friend Ron was a 10th grader. I remember him telling me that he had to replay the LP keyboard solo about 20 times to nail it. Alan Price was another great player in that era.

I was still in HS when this song was released. Graduated in 1969 and joined the USMC in June of 1969. I knew I'd end up in Vietnam which I did in '71-'72. I had a death wish back then and knew I'd be killed in Vietnam. Now I'm glad I made it home. So young! They’re still rocking, still hitting the high notes. The Zombies are transportative! Yes, I made up a word.
God gave Rock 'n Roll to him personally.
It’s hard when you’re always standing next to gorgeous models like those in this video.
