When I was a child of the 60s this song was so far into the future it didn't seem relevant, but things appear to be progressing so fast now that it's scary.
I have (as many other people - but not those who were born after the early 90s) seen the world before the Internet and global mobile networks. It was very different. The world was bigger and information was mostly available from books/newpapers/magazines and maybe audio sources and perhaps Norton help files and text files on floppy and directly from people. Human communication/contact was very direct. I mean, we used phone booths OMG. I, myself, can only imagine the world before the computers and abundance of landline phones. When I was a child, to my fortunate, my father worked for a computer company and we had original IBM PCs at home. But most people had no computers. Some had C64s, Amigas and few had IBMs and some IBM compatibles. The closest to web sites were Bulletin Board System servers that could be reached via voice modems. Even that looked very advanced. Today, it looks odd if someone owns no computers or smart phones. I can hardly imagine what the future looks like. Say, 50 years from now. A hundred.
I am 66. When this was released it was a fantasy vision of a far off future. Who could have imagined that everything prophesised in the song would become a reality within60 years. Stunning visuals.
Just think, we could've pushed so much further. Instead we decided to collapse in on ourselves. We gave up going to Mars like 40 years ago. Probably for the best. I've heard the rivers caught on fire 20 years before that. Can't take people anywhere.
I know they have nothing to do with each other, but this song (which my older brother turned me on to when I was very young) always reminds me of The Time Machine with Rod Taylor, one of my favorite movies.
Yeah, You already know that but I'd guess that they took these years for stylistic purposes only and not because in 1969 they lacked the scope of how fast things would move during 10,000 years.
who's here because deep down they know the conspiracy theorists are right and they dont want to admit it on their Facebook so as to hurt their fake image !!!!
I am 63yrs old and I remember listening to this song as a child. I just simply loved this song...It had something in it...It was the truth about our future...Is it not so today and its 2021...
Building actual sets and models take a long time and money. But they tend to have a better look. Think the original dune costumes and inside sets, or original blade runner. Cgi has it's place like in outer space or dinosaurs. But a lot of stuff that could be done with real sets, just looks really fake with CGI it seems very lazy and cheap. Digital sensors can't complete with film quite yet. They remastered this film, look how good it stands up to video especially from they first changed over. Tv programs shot on video lets say in te 90s look horrible to say even Bonanza shot on film. Especially when remastered to modern video standards. I can only imagine how good the original film looks.
Yes, take the scene of the robot's transformation in to a fake Maria and compare it to Darth Vader's final emergence in Revenge of the Sith and you'll see that science fiction hasn't changed all that much.
Dude 500 years is nothing. Humanity had been around much longer than that. We've found that modern humans may have existed longer than we even thought. Thousands and thousands of years. Modern humans have existed for at least 10,000 years... imagine what the ancient peoples thought of it being our time. They never imagined we'd be around in 2021. Some of them thought the world would have ended dozens of times by now.. Hell, even if we nuke each other, some small pockets of humanity will survive. Have more faith in your species. A lot of us are fucked up, but there's also so much potential for good in us.
@@1223jamez You're not very smart then, are you? You know the bible says some other ridiculous stuff too? Like.. "Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" yet I guarantee that you're doing just that right now. Like come on dude. You cannot say you believe one part, but not the other ridiculous things. I could go on and on and on about all the stupid made up shit in the bible. If I wrote down a bunch of stories, Put them in a book, and then said book was found buried in the ground 2000 years later.. Does that make everything in the book true? No? Of course not. Just because it was written by ancient humans, that doesn't make it real. You're trusting the accounts of people that didn't even know we live on a planet. People that didn't even know what makes rain happen. People that were superstitious about EVERYTHING. You're going to trust those people with your eternal soul? LOL. Lets try this. Here's some ridiculous stuff you like to ignore. What about "When a woman has a discharge, if her discharge in her body is blood, she shall continue in her menstrual impurity for seven days; and whoever touches her shall be unclean until evening. Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean." Leviticus 15: 19-20 How about "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves." Numbers 31:17-18 Ohhh how about this one eh? So you believe in owning slaves then? Because the bible says that, too. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way." Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT Get your head out of your ass. It wont kill you to admit you're wrong.
I was one when this was released I’m now approaching my 55 birthday an I’ve seen the world change in my short time an in my opinion I certainly wouldn’t want to be around in 2525 . God help us all ! Greetings Portsmouth England 🏴
I don't think humans will be around then. At least not in the way they are now. We are slowly but surely trashing this planet. Soon we'll be on the way to extinction. And why? All because of money 💰. It's all about the bottom line. That sums us up. What a bunch of idiots 🙄
I remember when this first aired in '69. Lots of changes in society and the world and it scares me! I feel so sorry for the younger generation. Blessings from an old guy in America.
I remember listening to this song as a 13 year old back during the Summer of 1969. 51 years have passed awful fast and Man is crying a million tears...
i HEARD THIS SONG FOR THE first time in Germany when I was 13 years old like you have been. So you must be 63 or 64 years old but this realy doesn`t matter. I wish you the best for you and your dear ones. I am sorry for my bad english. By the way, now I am living in Thailand for about 2 and 1/2 year. Many Greetings where ever you are.
Hey fellow old folks, same here - turning 64 this year (in the year 2021). Seems like this is turning out to be a remarkably prescient song, wouldn't you say? If they came up with an eternal life option I would politely decline at this point.
@@andreasschicke8493 My friend, I do not know you yet because of the Internet-I feel as if I’ve known you for years! I’m in the state of Ohio. You said you are now living in Thailand. Maybe Bangkok? I am 50 and hadn’t heard this in ages, for some reason something came to me thinking about 2025 coming around the corner and the times we are living now, and I just remembered by listening to it again it’s 2525, I always thought it was 2025 Lol. If anything 2525 makes it even sadder to think this can continue the way it is and humanity will one day reach 2525, I hope one day things change and we can transcend one day. God bless.

2023 now and I remember this song when it was released. 'Man has taken everything this old Earth can give and he aint put back nothing' - how prophetic.
It was already clear for them where it's going to... Now most of us think we would not even survive another 100 years... Hopefully we can still go a U-Turn
This was a masterful pairing of two dystopian classics. The scary thing is that as I was growing up, they were just Sci-Fi visions of a possible future that would never arrive. Now, near the end of my own life, I can see those days arriving.
This song scared the shit out of me when I was 10 years old, and it still scares the shit out of me to this day. It instills a sense of dread in me that sits deep in the pit of my stomach, a feeling I've always felt but this song just puts the words to those feelings. It's absolutely beautiful, but so terrifying that I rarely come back to listen to it.
Part of the effect this song has on me is thinking about those who will come after and knowing I'll be dust (in the wind) when they finally tread this same planet under the same sun and moon. They'll think of us the way we think of the people who were here hundreds and thousands of years ago. The people who saw the melt of the last ice age... Doesn't every living person have a small measure of arrogance over the dead because of their frailty in dying?
I used to listen to this in the Nam. I turned 21 over there Nov 4, 1969 on guard duty on bunker 9 on Camp Eagle. A tune with a lot of memories and meaning for me. Stay well folks.
Even if people back then didn't appreciate what you did (Even if it may have not been by your choice), I want to say now thank you for putting your life on the line. I'm glad you made it back home. Be well.
My parents were young both graduating in 1961 & 1965 ..and I grew up listening to music exactly like this...❤❤ And I love it!! The music from the 1960's is one of the BEST!! This song always made me idk it just always made me wonder... But I suppose it was always supposed to do that!! 😂
@Alex Berkman True. Remember it well . Just out of basic training in USAF . Was played a lot. A crazy mix that year including psychydelic rock, novelty songs.
"Now it's been 10,000 years, man has cried a billion tears...now man's reign is through, but through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight..." Pure stunning poetry. And I love the way they start the song again from the beginning, as if it's a terrible cycle of life which will go on and on forever.
God is going to make things better in the world... For everyone if they want. But in his own way... This song is so up to date! But god will very soon change it to the better!!! Beautiful music!!!
sorry kids of today.....this is musik. A timeless masterpiece for a bygone epoch with rebellion, imagination and fantasy.Nothing can bring back memories better, than a song which he was once connected with.
I am from Colombia and I am 66 years old. In 1975 I heard the song Año 2525 performed by the Frank Pourcel Orchestra, an instrumental version that gave it a futuristic touch and left me in awe. I never imagined that this song was a composition by Zager & Evans, in fact I didn't even know they existed. 40 years later, while exploring the band Ten Years After, I found this version of the song and it impressed me even more because of its prophetic lyrics. Beautiful composition.
Mesmerising. Haunting. Disturbing. The repeating verse, combined with the luminously prescient images from Metropolis, give a perfect dizzying mishmash of future and past. Amazingly well done.
The most dreadfull thing for me is how far away these millenias from us, from me. No matter what will happen in the year 2525 - we won't see it. Not a single one of us. Our lifespan is just a tiny fraction of millenia, and when the singer just strides trough the time it reminds me about our mortality and the fact that the death is pretty close already, and my life is nothing on the scale of human civilisation. I can't even describe that feeling of being incredibly small and helpless in the face of time.
Metropolis - A masterpiece. Fritz Lang was a pure genius. I can watch this film over and over and not get bored. I remember when this song came out, in 1969. Played on every radio station.
Being 72 years old, I have seen a lot. That being said, I'm not sure we will make it to 2525 much less 10,000 years. I have always enjoyed this song, even though it is a little dark.
I can't believe people even worry about things like 10000 years from now. People are just another critter in a long parade of critters to go extinct. No biggie.
I remember a time when we all assumed nuclear war was a given, not an if but a when. When they drop the bomb it will all be over. People don't realize how the Cold War was a key change in history. It was the first time that apart from religious beliefs, the End Of the World was a real possibility. We could really do it and we still can and now we'll always be able to. But we got through. Maybe it's always going to be like that, and people will find a way to muddle through one day at a time.
The song has more meaning today. But we are not going to make it. We are well into the Sixth Mass Extinction Event. We are also experiencing a Civilisation Systems Collapse. I'm in the same age bracket.
@@The_Robert.Fletcher chill my guy. Nobody knows the future. We maybe alive for only 20 years or 10,000 years. We maybe living in an extinction event or we may not. People have predicted the end of humanity for centuries and yet nothing has happened. For example, people predicted the end by nuclear war and yet, we made it through. Don’t believe everything the media or politicians say about the future because they sometimes tend to over exaggerate things. Look, what I’m trying to say is that even if the end is near or not, we should enjoy everyday of our lives like it is the last, because we don’t know what will happen tomorrow.

Choosing scenes from the silent classic Metropolis was genius on your part! Directors of today should all watch a few silent films and learn a thing or two about artistry and expression.

I can’t get enough from this song. It’s from 1969 and nothing changed: In the Year 2020 He's taken everything this old earth can give And he ain't put back nothing
Between that line and the last one, "But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday," it is sad, chilling and exciting. This song evokes feelings and thoughts, what a masterpiece honestly.
Every few years I watch Metropolis. Each time I am more astounded at how it advanced it was, on so many levels. Excellent song, and your use of the film excerpts is perfect. Thank you for creating and sharing your work.
OH MY GOD, THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY. OH MY GOD!!!! I'm screaming. This has been one of my favorite songs since I was 5 (1969), when my brother would sing/play it. I saw Metropolis 30 years ago and found it so moving. You are so spot on with how they fit together. I hope those watching this are half as moved as I am. Absolutely love your creativity. Very artistic and moving.
I used to wait the whole day listening to the radio for this song to come up. It gave me goosebumps and floated me in the air. The video is one of the best seen in YT.
I remember hearing this song on my 16th birthday. I was sat up in bed, having had a lie in, a little birthday treat for myself when "In the Year 2525" came on the radio. So apt was the fact that at very moment, I was reading the science fiction story, "The Machine Stops"!
66 & ditto. But as we approach 2025, entering an age of drone warfare, worldwide cyber attacks, & renewed threats of nuclear war, I suspect many of these mentioned conditions may arrive much sooner than predicted... (Tho they all certainly seem inevitable, dont they?) And I kinda wonder if Man is even gonna make it to 2525?
@@williampatrick2971 and what's so disturbing about it? It's a new way to procreate, way less risky and way more efficient than live birth. That is if advanced AI wouldn't have already replaced us as a species by then. Only good things can come from that, the way we are living right now is a literal nightmare.
One time my two buddies and I were sleeping out under the stars in a field by a hay baler. We were all pledged to pull our first 'all-nighter'. I remember this song playing around 2 am. The 1927 movie Metropolis had special video effects that were way ahead of it's time. Excellent use of scenes from the movie along with the music!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Building actual sets and models take a long time and money.

The idea of humanity making it to 2525 is the most optimistic thing I’ve heard in a long while.
As that's just over 500 years away, i'll tke that bet!
@@I_am_a_cat_ The Bible says the world is about 6,000 years old and I believe what he Bible says.
Everything also on which she lies during her menstrual impurity shall be unclean, and everything on which she sits shall be unclean." Leviticus 15: 19-20
How about "Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man intimately. But all the girls who have not known man intimately, spare for yourselves." Numbers 31:17-18
Ohhh how about this one eh? So you believe in owning slaves then? Because the bible says that, too. "You may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way." Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT
Get your head out of your ass. It wont kill you to admit you're wrong.

Hey fellow old folks, same here - turning 64 this year (in the year 2021). Seems like this is turning out to be a remarkably prescient song, wouldn't you say? If they came up with an eternal life option I would politely decline at this point.

Ok, Boomer.
It was great to listen to when it came out. I was 12. Now it's scary.
Past, present, future in retrograde, years and days to reflect for some retrospect...
It gives me the chills. I am very afraid of CBDS's an the future of our individual rights.
So, what are you going to do about it?

Agree sound very dark

Needless to say, I was the only one to see the sky lightening in the east that morning. It seems so very long ago. Childhood's end.
"Some machine's doin' that for you!" Marvelous mash-up!
I seriously fell in love with this song. The accuracy!!!!
So very very real Genie and very accurate
Technology may be behind expectations, but social engineering is a century ahead of schedule
The accuracy is incredibly off
@@codrinn9999 What is off, Machines are taking all the peoples jobs so they'll have nothing to do, babies are being born in test tubes I think you need to keep watching and listening..
@@richardbool4232 yup not only are machines taking over people's jobs but the oligarchs are obsessed with merging man with machines hence which also applies to "some machine doing it for you" as the song said. "Won't be no husband or wife" yup it's getting that way thanks to a monstrous divorce system that has marriage on the decline and sex dolls created by the masterbation industries. Also did you see that female robot at the end of the video? Remind you of anyone?😏 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophia_(robot)
In the year 2021, Metropolis has not been redone. The original still holds strong, cgi would be so wrong.
Starring Lupita Nyong'o as Maria.
Doesn't need to be 'redone'. Will be reality soon.
In the year 2022, we truly are through. Animals are going extinct fast, and all because of the price on gas. Woah!
I agree!
The song is so relevant to today's world. 😢😢😢😢🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
No Doomsday...we all survive..
Hi hello there, your Absolutely right, Zagar and Evan's song in the 2525, Although where not quite there as of yet, mike LONDON UK
See also BALL OF CONFUSION by the Temptations. ✌✌✌
Sure it is unless you’re cynical
Ball of Confusion by the Temptations. If there ever was a song that described the tempo of the times this was it.The Summer of 1970. Everything reached the boiling point. People would riot over anything. Most of all people were sick and tired of the Vietnam war dragging on and on. Enough BS was enough.
Ein zeitloser Klassiker, ein Lied das niemals aus der Mode kommt!
Eine fantastische Aufnahme für die Ewigkeit!
Úžasné, ze môžem počúvať hity mojej mladosti. Je to veľká vzpruha do každodenných starostí a obáv, co nám prinesie budúcnosť. Diky ze ste .
“He’s taken everything this old Earth can give and he ain’t put back nothing.”
That is so true today
I am glad I am 56, pity the teenagers today, nothing to look forward to only a world destroying itself, thanks for the last 100 years of progress, progress towards oblivion
NO WE have!
And whose fault is it that the world is crappy for teenagers? Their parents, grandparents, the baby boomers. Their fault
Same here
Mr. Beast says otherwise
Perfect combination of the song with visuals. Zager and Evans were prophetic messengers.
Right on, but off by 500 years. It's THIS year!
This is the scariest song I’ve ever heard
Agreed, I'm particularly spooked by the "ain't gonna need your teeth" line
It was scary back in the day, but its terrifying in today's world!
You create what you fear.
Don't let fear ever enter your consciousness. What you focus on you will manifest. Focus on love. So many people are awake now to the Truth that it won't be long before humanity is going to set things right. Believe it, we're in good hands!!
We ignored Huxley, we ignored Orwell and of course ignored Zagen and Evans. Therefore we will get, "the great reset"
This is one of those songs, that take you back to where you were and what you were doing, at the time you first heard it.
I haven't heard this song in a decade and now I feels like a punch to the gut.
Now it's been ten thousand years, man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday
Only yesterday, alluding to the very possibility that we have done this before, here, or some other planet, that is a sad reality
Years ago I was at the grocery store and my bill came to $25.25 me and the cashier both broke out in In the year 2525 spontaneously. It was just one of those moments that make life interesting.
