I’m a microbiologist and worked on UTIs for years. The main trick is to drink TONS of water. Once you’re on antimicrobials such as nitrofurantoin, nalidixic acid or trimethoprim, they concentrate in the urine, but you need to flush out the bacteria causing the problem. If it’s thrush, that’s a yeast (Candida albicans) infection, where Clotrimazole lotion and oral anti fungal will help. Also, natural yoghurt contains natural lactobacillus which can be applied as a pessary, to make the vaginal pH return back to normal. A visit to your GP will be able to determine from a urine (boric acid) sample, the correct antibiotic to put you on. There’s also another possibility called Staphylococcus saprophyticus, again, requiring antibiotics. I hope this information helps. There are other causes, but rarer.
How much plain unflavored yogurt should be used for internal PH problems due to vaginal atrophy? And couldn’t it just be inserted into the vagina via a vaginal applicator, rather than made into a pessary? Most people have no idea how to make a pessary at home out of yogurt!
I am a retired psychiatric nurse that covered lock wards...quite often elderly patients that suddenly became confused had either uti or vitamin B-12 issues...easily resolved but often overlooked.

Does urinating after intercourse help prevent UTI's? Does cranberry juice help to prevent UTI's?
I have no idea if cranberry juice helps, but it seems to help me every time. Either it works or is a placebo effect, I haven't found any relative information correlating cranberry juice to urinary tract health.
@@MrTailson1 It's common knowledge and is recommended in the hospitals. Decades ago it was considered nonsense by the medical community but now its universally accepted as beneficial. We're talking about the pure bitter unsweetened stuff here only.

Can you make a video about life after urethaplasty and possibility of a stricture reoccurring? Had surgery in 2018. It was close to a cm closure. Urinating is fine. Just hoping it doesn't come back. It's the scariest thing in the world.

Dr. Malik, I would like you to do a video on the non-estrogen low dose vaginal drugs used for vaginal atrophy, please. I’m especially intrigued with Intrarosa and how it works to resolve urovaginal atrophy symptoms. But I’m a bit concerned about it, too, since it hasn’t been studied near as much as vaginal estrogens have, particularly in relation to breast cancer risk. I’d also like to know what criteria you use when putting a post-menopausal atrophy patient on vaginal DHEA rather than vaginal estrogen. Thanks.

Hi Dr. Malik, thank-you for this video. Question - I am suffering recurrent UTIs (three this past year and the third that has apparently not cleared with a round of Macrobid - going to obtain culture this week). I am curious to know more about DHEA and side effects. I had taken it in compounded oral capsules at 5 mg in 2018 for depression, and not only did it help with that lost 40 lbs in 5 months and completely cured my depression- I was back to the person I used to be when I was at my happiest 20 years ago! My body also seemed to be more toned and skin more youthful. That said, by month 8 on the DHEA I had also lost about half of my hair, and had to quit. Can you please explain why this happens, and whether the vaginal form you mention could possibly circumvent any negative side effects? Or is it simply that it is going down the wrong pathway and converting to testosterone no matter what form I am taking? And as to estrogen, even if bioidentical, to my understanding the issue is always estrogen dominance that needs to be corrected by repairing Leaky Gut Syndrome, and then going in with bioidentical progesterone… otherwise hormones will convert. Perhaps this is also a good topic for discussion? Thanks so much for your knowledgeable information!
My wife dealt with utis when we were younger due to frequent ax and how it threw off the ph of the vagina . Now that we are older and there is vagina area atrophy due to lack of estrogen she takes a low dose of nitrofuron after sex .

If your wife has vaginal atrophy, she needs to see a gynecologist ASAP. Low dose vaginal estrogen is used to treat this condition, which only gets worse over time and becomes very painful. Tissues become thin, dry and even begin to disappear. Atrophy also affects the urinary tract and urethra, making you feel like you have a UTI (same symptoms). Burning and itching are awful.

Thanks for the video Dr Reena Malik. If you could suggest on this.. my mom has fibroids on her uterus... She is 45 now .. started with menopause symptoms... We consulted a gynecologist .. she suggested laproscopy to be done. Which will result of removing the uterus I suppose... Is there any other way apart from the surgery where she can get rid of the fibroids without any organ being removed... Thank you

I'm a male but I find the anatomy a very good subject and interesting and what I find quite disturbing is a lot of women do not know nor understand their functions of the anatomy. They seem to be a bit embarrassed when they bring up a subject about their body and I run with it...Lol... I've always been interested in the human body since early junior high school. Hi Rena , I am a varicocele patient my age is 27 , When at the beginning i was diagnosed with varicocele I visited several doctors in which only 1-2 said to have surgery others denied it said it can reoccur again . At this point of time I am facing some mental issues because of it also my marriage time is near although I do not have any pain neither I have discomfort ( discomfort occurs only when i lift something heavy which I have stopped doing)Right now I would like you to make a video in which we will come to know how to increase sexual desires also which I believe is linked to testestrone . The video which you have made on testesterone I want to know will it be effective on varicocele patients. I have no such bad habit I used to do cycling before this . I was diagnosed in 2018 now in 2022 I m 27.Give us a clearity please .
I would also love to see a video about this. I was also diagnosed with varicocele around 2020. I had severe pain when it started and my left nut was engorged. After diagnosis I was given medication and the pain subsided and size went back to normal. However, my nut doesn't seem to return to normal shape and the hydrocele in my nut still remained although doctors told me that it would go away. I was told to get a sperm test but due to covid I wasn't able to follow through and haven't done it till date.
I would get pain in the area when I stand from sitting crossing my legs for quite a while. I can still feel the hydrocele on my left nut.
Before all these started, I was 5ft 8, weighted 82 kilos and started working out in the gym. Progressively lost 7 kilos over 3 months but couldn't continue when the pain started. I've been gaining weight again and would love to start working out again soon. But, when i start lifting quite heavy I would feel pain in my groin section again.

@@eyesofheaven9347 bro should avoid heavy lifting and do minimal workout bcoz i had the same issues but i didn’t have hydrocele . When i used to do gym and the day when i lift heavy i felt a lot of pain bcoz of which i stopped it and now i do little bit of walk and some stretching exercises i do these not very often .

Hi Doctor, I am 29 years old and been married for 7 years now in 2022, My husband and I have been struggling with this condition since we got married. I experience most of the symptoms you have mentioned and the treatment I always get is the Ciploxx 500 and Doxycycline 100, it does help but when ever we try again to make love the same infection comes back again. I am an allergic person so I wonder if the vaginal moisturiser or lubricants cannot allerges me ?
