Your videos are very informative and provide a piece of supplemental information. It helps me formulate questions to ask my Urologist about my own care.
I am 32, no health problems apart from having had an overactive bladder for around 4 years - so much so that I avoid long car journeys. My doctor and urologist keep blaming anxiety and don’t prescribe any medication because they could have long term effects on my health :(
I know what you mean, my doctor was also convinced I was too stressed. I asked for something to help me sleep and he put me on Vistaril which is an antihistamine that helps with anxiety and to sedate me. Anywho, I went to a urologist after that and he put on a medication. I start today. I'm also 32. I've had this as long as I can remember.
I was diagnosed with IC nearly 20 years ago. It’s wasn’t a horrible case but it was life and diet altering. Almost three months ago my Biote hormone doctor mentioned Biote Urox+ to me. Sure, I’ll try it. I didn’t expect much as nothing has ever helped. Oh my goodness! Urox+ is awesome! I am back to a normal diet and I only get up once or twice at night to void. I definitely suggest trying this if you have bladder issues, it could help.
I take Solifenacin at night because of the large quantities of water I need to drink for my genetic kidney disease. I was having issues with keeping my bed dry and the constant urge to pee was making it hard to sleep. The dry mouth is annoying, but it's a price I'm happy to pay for better sleep and I noticed a definite difference when I started the medication. The Solifenacin also comes in handy when I need to remove a stent, stents are awful and my poor bladder hates them!
intersting!... I have a similar problem;. I have a healthy bladder etc, but i have a long term diuretic state, have to take sea salt + lots fluids to replenish,,, which fills my bladder more rapidly than average person, over-exciting the stretch receptors. I would like to ask my uro for bladder botox injections, to make the bladder more relaxed, and honestly of Greater capacity, to accommodate diureis. I must ask on this main thread; Surely this is ok - to make the bladder bigger like this!?
Hi Doctor! Great video... I came across your video when I was looking at Oxybutynin for hyperhidrosis. I have a really bad hyperhidrosis that gets triggered everytime I do any activity. My face and scalp start sweating profusely and I look tired so quickly. I really need a solution and heard a few good reviews about this medication. Not sure if I should take it though as I have really good bladder control and worry if this might cause problem that I don't have currently.
Thank you for sharing this important information. I'm a kidney donor, and I seemed to get worse overtime with the urinary frequency. Currently on PT but not sure if this is helping. Due to high risk of dementia in family I will decline taking any medication for this. The acupuncture sounds like a better route. The Botox sounds great too but knowing that it might not work or that I would need to cath if I cannot urinate its worrisome to me. Seeing my dad at some point doing the cath is a no to me. Your videos are great that you again for sharing Dr Malik. I will subscribe in case i missed something and need to go back and see again.
Questions please: (1) Do imipramine and/or myrbetriq help with incontinence post-prostatectomy? (2) is incontinence after prostate surgery a random occurrence, a roll of the dice? OR is it due to specific surgical practices such as cutting away too much urethra. Thank you. Art

Hey I listen all your video and you talk about multiple sclerosis. I have ms for 8 years now but doctors say I should have been diagnosed sooner. I have urinary urgency but my neurologist didn't give it much value and also " treated me" whit painful exams and tubes in my special place (what is a great way to make someone think that urinary urgency is perfectly normal). I'm new here and I didn't see the other videos on the topic yet, I'm going to do that now. I'm just thankful that someone don't dismiss a complaint!! You are an amazing person that explain everything whit calm and coherency. You make me feel a lot better about myself (and not like a crazy person). You are really great!
Hello! Is urinary urgency your only symptom with MS? My neurologist is giving me a hard time about it too, she doesnt think I have MS. Did you get MRIs done?
Dr Malik, Thank you for covering this subject. I'm very familiar with it and the frustration it brings. One of the drawbacks to the meds that I found , in addition to the ones you mentioned is the fact that you can take only one dose per day. Also I found that it's not effective except for about 6 hrs. I had not heard about the possible cognitive side effects. Again thank you for the valuable information you make available.
Hi Dr. Malik, Do you know much about Gemtesa? I was taking Myrbetric, have also been on vesicare and trospium. I wanted to avoid the dementia risk in the future as a 40 year old. I’m nervous about taking a newer medication that hasn’t been out as long. Myrbetriq was good, but insurance will no longer cover.
My wife's doctor gave her Elmiron! She had a scare of temporary blindness when driving! At the time no one seemed to know what caused it. She went to a Neurologist. She even had a MRI of the brain. No one seemed to know what caused it. Now they actually know Elmiron causes blindness! A lot of these medicines just make it worse!
Hello my dear dr rena the video is very informative Dear dr rena I diagnosed with overactive bladder in pregnancy and i m using mirabegron and tolterodine both at the same time is it safe in 🤰 pregnancy
I was put on Oxybutynin by my urologist and had to immediately stop it after a week because i would go to pee and sit on the toilet for 20+ mins trying to push my pee out. My doctor knew this was going to happen and still put me on the meds for my over active bladder. She told me to stop it immediately cause my bladder could explode. I went from having an over active bladder to my bladder being too relaxed where i couldn’t pee. Once i got off those pills i went back to normal having my over active bladder.

I’ve tried both Gemtesa and Mirabegron. I found Gemtesa to work better for me to decrease both urgency and frequency without the potential risk of elevated blood pressure. The biggest downside is that both are very expensive. I am lucky that my Part D insurer will at least cover 50% of the cost but even then, Gemtesa runs me about $240 per month. I am right now beginning a trial of Solfenacin as an alternative to Gemtesa. True, there are many more potential side effects but the $5 per month cost is a definite incentive to give it a try. Unfortunately, none of these help my nocturia.

Hi, is it safe to take oxybutynin in my early 20s? I got prescribed 5mg twice a day because I wake up during the night (2-3 times) to go the bathroom. @Jibon Sarkar *If you are asking if it helpeD? ; I have not had it yet. but my Uro approved botox injections during my annual January cystoscopy !, so i will be able to report then! *If you are asking How does it help? ; then - it relaxes the bladder wall, so it can stretch further, without getting excited to contract, or - it doesn't sense fullness as much.
update; Since my 2 previous comments; i am verry happy with the injections! i have had it 4 times now!; at about 6 - to 9 mnths apart; 1st) was 100 units ; but was not very noticeable,... 2nd) time was 150 units - only slightly better 3rd) 200 units - effective for a short while.. 4th) 200 units again , but more effective! i can hold Loads more volume - for longer, without urgency, and no over sensitivity caused from a big hold, as the bladder wall muscles dont over exert themselves. another obs; getting ones hands wet, or feet cold, doesnt trigger the urgency!. Took a couple weeks to take effect. There was a week or so where double voiding was necessary to empty the last 300ml. Hopefully these regular Larger volumes held will develop bigger lasting capacity!?!
I've had issues with infections since I was a kid To the point where they had to stop treating my infections at one point because they were going to run out of antibiotics. However it's not working very well anymore. At my last appointment my urologist mentioned a new study with the use of formaldehyde as a potential treatment option. With good reason she said that it was controversial. Do you know anything about this treatment and how it works? I really enjoying your videos and continue to learn a lot thank you 😊

Hello, what medications / treatments are there for urine retention? I had two uti's in the fall and the ultrasound showed 32% retention. The ultrasound was repeated a few weeks later and everything was normal (only 25 cc pvr). No other symptoms. Grateful if you could explain..while I wait for my appt with the urologist.
@Jibon Sarkar I am good thank you, the urologist said that sometimes when we drink A LOT for the pelvic exam and the bladder is full to the max, it can create a retention effect and in this case it is normal. I did another exam and i drank less, no retention.

I just started Solifenacin today, 10MG. I've never had E.D. in my entire life, it seems my new OAB medication is giving me E.D. is this a typical side effect of generic Vesicare?
@Scofield It did help me, but I'm on a different medication that works just as well without all the side effects. I'm on Tolterodine ER 4MG once a day.
@Scofield Yes, I had a prostate infection/inflammation that has caused OAB. I was only on Solifenacin for about a week. The current medication which i've been on for a month; I pee on average once every 2-3 hours. Prior to medication, I was having to pee every 30 minutes. Occasionally, I can go every 4-5 hours without peeing.
@Scofield It depends, impossible for me to answer. That is a conversation for you and your Urologist. Some response to medication, some need medication their entire life. Some don't want to take a pill for the rest of their life and go the surgical route.
I really don’t want to go on meds for my OA bladder. My mom thinks I should . I’m in my 20s and have a couple disabilities. Would the cognitive side effects potentially have negative consequences for people with autism?

@Jibon Sarkar *If you are asking if it helpeD? ; I have not had it yet. but my Uro approved botox injections during my annual January cystoscopy !, so i will be able to report then!
*If you are asking How does it help? ; then - it relaxes the bladder wall, so it can stretch further, without getting excited to contract, or - it doesn't sense fullness as much.
My dr also wants me to try the Botox. I’m definitely thinking about it
update; Since my 2 previous comments; i am verry happy with the injections! i have had it 4 times now!;
at about 6 - to 9 mnths apart;
1st) was 100 units ; but was not very noticeable,...
2nd) time was 150 units - only slightly better
3rd) 200 units - effective for a short while..
However about two years ago my urologist started me back up on a consistent preventative antibiotic after a few really bad Infections that couldn't be ignored. However it's not working very well anymore. At my last appointment my urologist mentioned a new study with the use of formaldehyde as a potential treatment option. With good reason she said that it was controversial. Do you know anything about this treatment and how it works? I really enjoying your videos and continue to learn a lot thank you 😊
Haven't heard about formaldehyde for infections its usually used for recurrent bladder bleeding
Rena Malik, M.D. interesting 🤔 I do tend to have like invisible hematuria so maybe that was what they were thinking I'm not really sure.
Oh. I thought you were gonna do a video on protecting the testicles next?
It's on my list havent made it yet, in a few weeks!
Can we expect this one next week?
I was taking ditropan for incontence and because of reoccurring utis now restarting ditropan, it isn’t working whereas before it being stopped it worked wonderfully. Will it work again?
Thank you for the recommendation for the U of M Doctor "Dr. Anne". Question how long does it usually take for Mirabegron to work and kick in?
6-8 weeks
Why oxybutynin gives dry mouth? In the past I also used to take desmopressin which gave me water retention and I woke up with an headache.
Bc it inhibits receptors in other parts of the body causing dry mouth
Should I take VESICARE TABLETS FOR NOCTURA AND OVER ACTIVE BLADDER,
I have CKD stage 3. Is it safe to use Toviaz 4mg to control my bladder ?? I am in my 70s
Does using the bathroom more than 8 times a day or during the night country if you are drinking a lot of water?
Hello, what medications / treatments are there for urine retention? I had two uti's in the fall and the ultrasound showed 32% retention. The ultrasound was repeated a few weeks later and everything was normal (only 25 cc pvr). No other symptoms. I went in for a uterus / ovary pelvic ultrasound yesterday and it showed a 35% retention....really distressing as I went in for another matter and my confidence and understanding of what I had processed in the past came all undone. Grateful if you could explain..while I wait for my appt with the urologist.
Depends on what is causing the urinary retention, not a straightforward answer
@@RenaMalikMD Is it possible to make a video about the diff between incomplete voiding versus retention
@Jibon Sarkar I am good thank you, the urologist said that sometimes when we drink A LOT for the pelvic exam and the bladder is full to the max, it can create a retention effect and in this case it is normal. I did another exam and i drank less, no retention.
@@soniqua2709 how are you now ???

Dr Malik I am 21 years old suffering from overactive bladder from last 10 days and my doctor has given me the mirabegron tablet for 1 month is it really effective in patients or do i need to switch to other treatment by the way thanks your videos are informative and amazing
It is effective for many people. Stick with it for at least 6 weeks
@@the-GlamGuide Well i gotta say it is really effective if taken for a longer time but still my symtoms are there so i gotta say stick with this for atleast 1 month but it didn't work for me and side effects are there too like it gave me a headache and vision was blurry till the time I was taking it so if you can live with this you won't regret taking it
@@the-GlamGuide I changed it
@@the-GlamGuide Hey don't say thanks well in order to tell this from which country are you

Finding your channel to be very informative. C6 spinal cord injury and take Trospium. Chose this one because I thought it doesen't break the blood brain barrier. Is that a thing and wouldnt that impact the long term cognitive implications?
Please do a video on the Botox injections.
What category does Gemtesa come under?
Would it be better to take the oxybutynin in the morning or at night?
I was told by my Doctor to take it at bedtime.
A question about interstitial cystitis (medicines for this disease)
Iv got spina bifda been on betmiga and solifenacin succinate feeling like thay have stopped being so efficient keep changing time's of taking even trying to take just 10mg of solifenacin with out betmiga for a week was perfect but then my symptoms returned so frustrating 😪
I take oxybutinin off-label for hyper hydrosis (chronic sweating) when necessary. I try not to take it every day because it makes me so thirsty. Would I be better off just taking it every day or should I continue to use it 2 - 3 times per week?
It was prescribed to me by a dermatologist so I've never really talked to an expert on anticholinergics before
Hey! Do you still take it? I started a few months ago and am thinking of dropping it, since I have a few side effects.
Very nice mam I am from India
So ru saying that my overactive bladder means I have MS? I been having a overactive bladder since I was 41 and now I am 47 and can't take it anymore cuz of lack of quality of sleep so now I was just prescribed medication now I am worried to even take cuz of dementia.
No that's not what it means. Many patients with MS have overactive bladder but most patients with overactive bladder don't have MS
still looking for your discussion of interstitial cystitis
can you talk about botox for bladder??

So ow does my bladder affect my brain?
I don't remember if I had dementia.
What about botox doctor ? Is it safe ?
People with overactive bladder should wear diaper to town is that right?
If my quality of life is so poor I should consider taking a med that may screw up my mind .. no thank you.. I’d rather per myself
Anticholinergics must never be given if you have a pseudocholinesterase deficiency like l do. Doctors need to educate themselves about the useless medications they are prescribing. My doc told me to take as much Pyridium as needed . However, this med is dangerous and affects cell counts.
I'm on 100 mg of metoprolol a day for prehypertension.
