Great episode. I love it when you travel and share not only the yarn shops but the city itself. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks 🙏 Deborah! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. ☺️
Great to see Paris in December and those yarn shops. 🇬🇧
So glad you enjoyed the video!
So nice to see Paris. Lovely yarns & it will interesting to see what you make. Your shawl is beautiful. Thanks 🏴
Thanks Christine! Btw, plans to head your way are forming . . . Probably towards the end of this year.
Lil Weasel also has remarkable collection of ‘cire’’ - very classy plastic fabric, great for tablecloths
Yes! I had caught sight of those. So much good stuff there packed into small spaces!
Thank you Melanie for another amazing video. I have been to Paris a few times but never made it into any yarn shops. I do love walking and admiring all the architecture and enjoying the special vide that Paris gives off. Look forward to seeing your next video!
Hi Beverly! I’m so glad you enjoyed the episode! 😁 Indeed, there’s no city in the world like Paris.
Ahhh, Paris! How lovely to visit at Christmastime. I haven't been there yet, but someday... The yarns you bought are beautiful, I can't wait to see how your sweaters turn out, especially the blown yarn. Your Stephen West shawl is looking good. I have to be careful how I knit in front of the TV. Just last night I was happily knitting while watching and completely forgot to do some decreases and didn't notice until several rows later. It's in the yoke of a colorwork sweater, so I had to rip it back. Well, that's not the first time that ever happened. 😂 Thanks for showing beautiful Paris while respecting the locals and not being an obnoxious American tourist.
So glad you enjoyed the video, Carin! Thanks for the encouragement on the Stephen West shawl. I have to say that the stitch count in the border rows isn’t always correct, but I check it periodically and add or subtract on the next row. With garter stitch it doesn’t show. But I get that unfortunately this fudge can’t work in a colorwork yoke. Wishing you success for a beautiful garment!
Hello Mélanie,
Thank you for bringing me along with you to Paris en décembre.
It's been ages since I last visited the city and shopping vicariously is the next best thing to being there, only less costly!
Your pronunciation of "Une maille à l'endroit" was very good indeed!
I'm from Montréal, Québec and French is my first language.
Despite this, I've always found it rather amusing that the Parisians revert to English with me as if what I'm saying isn't "proper" French.
Mind you, this only happens in Paris....the rest of the country understands me fine, and I do try to use international French (Sort of like the equivalent ot BBC English) but the Parisians are a very different animal than the French...not to be mistaken one for the other, even though there is no France outside of Paris for many of those "citadins"!
I chuckled when you said that you bought Julie Asselin yarns thinking it was French because of the name. Very honest mistake and maybe the shopkeeper did not make it a point of informing you it was French yarn...from Québec, not France!
I really love Julie's yarn and it is great to work with. She's a lovely person.
I've just finished a Riptide Slipover with her Chandail No1 base, which is a DK weight made with 75% mérino and 25% yak. It's soft like you wouldn't believe and I chose to use the yarn which was not dyed, so it's like a chamois color which is very beautiful and adds to my neutral knits Rolodex.
I've been to several of her events and I've invariably left with a mortgage's worth of her yarns...and still I go back for more
.
Your Birds of a Feather shawl is gorgeous and made me want to knit myself another one is those shades.
For the first, I splurged and made mine with La Bien Aimée's Single ply merino and Silk Mohair in the shade "Winter Garden".
I think that making a 'bigger than the public requires" swatch is a very wise thing to do. Since I've started using the lazy but Oh-so-crafty mock in-the-round method of swatching, I don't mind as much making those giant pieces of fabric that have saved my butt a few times. It does save time in the long run and helps you make a smart decision with all the information you need.
As I was watching your footing on the different shops and market stalls, I had olfactory flash-backs...especially the cheese shops!
For those places I have been privileged enough to visit, thank you for bringing back to memory such precious experiences.
For many others I've not been able to enjoy, it is lovely to see those parts of the world through your eyes, your lense and your yarns.
Looking forward to your next adventures!
Thank you, Isabelle, for your kind words and approval of pronunciation! I got to meet Julie Asselin at Vogue Knitting Live - she was hanging out in the Myak booth and had a corner for her yarns. I told her my story, and she told me I must come to Quebec! And I do indeed hope to do so. I was in Montreal and Quebec Ville the summer of 2019 for a few days, but that was before I started my UA-cam channel and I wasn’t nearly as focused on knitting and yarn as I am now. So a return may be in the works! We shall see! I am so glad you are enjoying the videos - and, yes, there is nothing like French cheese. And they sell it and consume it with such reverence! And now I am hungry . . .
it will be interesting to see if that gauge swatch technique is more accurate. I might try it myself in the future.
I’ll be sure to let you know!
Interesting reviews, thank you. FYI: Lang Yarns is Swiss, not German.
I am so glad you brought that up. Thank you! 🙏
