I might have posted this story before, but here goes. Me & my wife were touring the Pyrenees, we stayed for the weekend in a hotel next to a trading estate in Oloron Sainte Marie. Monday morn I stepped onto the balcony with my coffee to be greeted with the aromas of warm chocolate & roasting hazelnuts. Yes, nearby is the Lindt factory. The finest industrial air pollution you could wish for.
Sounds like Hershey Pennsylvania which has the same smells.
😍😍😍😍😍
Blommer's Chocolate in downtown Chicago is the same. YUMMY pollution!
Dream neighbor..🥰💙
Russ Cattell Lindt is my favorite chocolate 🤗
Whenever I travel, I go crazy at the local supermarkets. I miss traveling, I miss going to France. Hope to travel soon. I love French chocolate! And yes I always buy something from the stationery section, a pen, a notepad. More supermarket videos please.
I will never forget my first trip to Paris. The sights, the sounds, the food... and to this day I love French chocolate!
Visit Bayonne !!! Ask for Beret Basque. This is chocolate heaven. And take from there a trip to Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.
the problem with Swiss chocolate is that the legislation has been changed and they have the right to use lower quality fats, the best chocolates in Europe are in France and Belgium!!
I am a 74 yr old woman sitting here in the USA and elated that I came across your vlog. You have stimulate me to want to travel to France while I am well enough to travel. ' I LOVE FRENCH CHOCLATE " is not only the truth but I am now picturing myself sitting here in covid lock down and enjoying the sweet creamy flavor of the much needed chocolate . LOL. Thank you for your fun vlog and I have just subscribed while looking forward to more of your French living. Thank you for making this old lady smile ! Nancy, So California.

Visiting grocery stores is one of my favorite things to do when travelling. I love French chocolate!
The fleur de sel is a great idea for a souvenir, inexpensive, high quality and everyone can use and appreciate it. Oh, and I love French chocolate!
The fleur de sel from the isle de Re is renowned, the isle also produces lovely potatoes & a fine white wine, very little escapes the locality. We keep our boat moored in La Rochelle, so close to the isle. We get to enjoy it all in season.
@@russcattell955i Lucky you!

Île de Ré is beautiful. I was there with my biggest love I had in my life.
Nearby La Rochelle beautiful historic city with a big Aquarium (only 10 Euros).
I'm French but I find it so interesting to watch all this with your eyes! 8D Many thanks.
I buy a bar of soap and a “gant” and make it a gift. We don’t have. “Gants” in the US just facecloths.
this is a distinct French gift. I love French chocolate.
Walking around the supermarkets in France was the best part of my trips to France. I love French chocolate!!! 🤩

Hey all, just a note that I'm seeing all of you who love French chocolate. The video has more chocolate lovers than expected so just know I see you even if I don't reply/heart your comment. ;-)
Also, so many of you seem to love grocery store videos, so if I were to do a Part 3, tell me below if you'd rather see A) My favorite grocery store item in each category (favorite drink, chip, canned item, chocolate bar, cheese, etc.) or B) Trip to Aldi (low-cost market) to contrast with this one and the ones you know outside of France. I have a newish Aldi nearby that is pretty nice! or C) BOTH.
Your wish is my command.
xx
Diane
Both!
Hi
When I go to the french supermarkets I recently bought the William Saurin cassoulet and stew tins
It would be great to see if there are other brands
Happy new year
Aldi please, it is my favorite here in Texas to find European foods. I stocked up on my favorite German Christmas sweets
Both.
Oui In France I Love French Chocolate!!!
I love the soaps from France and wish I would have filled my suitcase! The pack of 4 that's E1.22 is almost $10.00 here in the States. LOL And i do love french chocolate!
Hi!! Both please!! We have Aldi here in Texas, but there is nothing I love more than to spend time in grocery stores/local markets in any country I'm visiting, it's usually the first thing I do when traveling. Most people think they have to eat in restaurants or heaven forbid...eat fast food while traveling, but should really step out of their comfort zones, wonder through a local grocery/market and pick up a few things to have a little picnic.....much less expensive and they might just love it. So glad I found your channel. Thank you!! Missing France so much!!
i dearly love France! i visited in 1995 and was truly the trip of a lifetime! everyday we went to the grocery store for things that could be eaten in our hotel room. one of my favourites were apricot preserves and a baguette from the patisserie and of course i love French chocolate!
A former girlfriend of mine worked as a writing travel correspondant for a travel magazine, she has visited nearly every continent and country of the world. When she is on own holidays she always visits ...
la France 🙂
I am 60 years old and spend over two years of my life on holidays in france first time I was 16 years old (with 5 school frieds our first holiday without parents)
S o I wish you too meet la France again soon.
thank you for your testimony, I am French, and I especially like strawberry, blackberry and currant jams!! my wife loves milk jam, I don't find it very good!! to each these tastes!! but all Americans must come to France to test the pastries: chocolate éclair or coffee, Paris Brest, millefeuille, tropézienne ......................... .......and above all, avoid restaurants for tourists, it's shit, they have flourished in Paris and there are touts to encourage you to return! good restaurants can be found in guides! not walking down the street!
I love French Chocolate! And I love exploring French groceries too! I have been to France only twice (Marseille/Nice and Lyon/Annecy) and in both visits, grocery shopping and Farmer's market were at the top of my list.
I love french chocolate!! I just came upon your channel and really enjoyed the content. Keep up the good work!
Grocery stores are some of my favorite places to pick up presents. Coffee, tea, chocolate, snacks, local spices, cookie and crackers all travel fairly well. I love the idea of soap and a washcloth. I love French Chocolate!
You forgot an essential item in the chocolate section : Caramel au beurre salé au sel de Guérande
I love French chocolate! When travelling abroad, we always made a point to stop at local grocery stores. Always interesting to see different products (and see the prices). Great suggestions for gifts! Most recipients prefer useful things they can use rather than trinkets.
Hi Diane, this is a great video, I'm a French living in Canada, and I never know what to bring back as gifts, you gave me so many great ideas! I would never have thought about the Petit Marseillais soap + gant de toilette combo, but it will definitely make a very unique gift. And I love French chocolate!
Last winter I was in France. Loved walking around the grocery store and finding treats. Mustard, honey, and of course, I love French chocolate.
I love seeing the international grocery store! When I’ve traveled Europe, it’s one of my must do stops. So many fun, different things to be found. And I love French chocolate.
The Bonne Maman jams have become pretty mainstream in the US now. You can find the more popular flavors at regular grocery stores.
Try crème de marrons. Chestnut jam it good combo with chocolate for crêpes or just with bread.
True, and for years.
Also some kinds of LU cookies.
True! But even the basic one cost more than twice the price in the video, at Walmart! Unreasonable markup! They certainly don't do it to Chinese or South American products that are transported over bigger distances.
I absolutely love grocery stores in other countries, and I love French chocolate!
When I’m in France or Italy, I make one last stop at a supermarket on my last day to buy cheeses, spices, soaps, chocolate and mustards and jams to bring home to 🇨🇦
(Did you know that Canadians are allowed to bring home up to 20kgs of cheese from overseas!?)🧀👍
Some day soon we will be able to do this again on our travels.
Happy New Year!🥂✨
Hello there ! I was wondering what kind of souvenir a Canadian would expect from France ? Because I am going to study in Toronto next year and i was wondering what to bring, no idea of what will please people 😅
I love French chocolate and I love of the gift ideas you shared! Thank you.
I love French Chocolate! Always love watching grocery shopping in France.
Those souvenirs looked so cute and I love French chocolate!
Thank you! I love French Chocolate. Vive La France!
Good morning from Canada and best wishes for a Happy New Year to you and your family🎉.
I Love French Chocolate! When my husband and I visited France in 2017 I discovered French grocery stores on my first day in France. I wanted to experience what French everyday life was like, so the first store I actually visited was a grocery store. I was thrilled walking the isles and seeing different products and deciphering what some of them were.A wonderful experience, and I love taking your grocery tour videos with you! French butter cookies and fresh squeezed Orange juice were some things we discovered and enjoyed while travelling in France. We were keeping our costs as minimal as we could so snacks from grocery were one way we handled that. Sardines were another discovery. It seems French people treat them as a lovely treat. I learned to enjoy them as a great quality protein food that was so good for me and stayed with me for a long time. The French perspective on sardines has stayed with me ever since. They are so portable when we are travelling, but definitely not on public transport.☺️Thank you once again for your lovely videos. I love seeing life thru your perspective in France!
This was great! It’s really great seeing all the products that exist in French supermarkets and some that I wish we had here in the states. I especially love when you visit the candy aisles because I love French chocolate. Thank you for all your work with these videos!
Really missing France and enjoying your content very much. My wife and I are hooked on hazelnut spreads from France and, yes, I love French chocolate!
You should look for Nutella in any US supermarket
I love French chocolate. I was in France for two weeks spring 2017. It never crossed my mind to go into a super market! What fun. I’m going back someday. I wasted much time in Paris worrying about my friend’s daughter getting to us. She was fine. We were not. 🥴
I love learning about different countries and what they sell, especially French chocolate! Thank you for sharing your life with us!
Been visiting France frequently from the UK for much of my life, and have really ignored this stuff. Thank you for drawing it to my attention. Of course people would appreciate these things. I usually just take them home those long woven bunches of big pink garlic.
I love French soap, because it last forever compared to the American whipped variety that contains too much air. It does not hurt to love French chocolate (I love French chocolate); pastries, bread and the French language itself. Due to Covid 19, I have had way too much time on my hands, so I decided to learn French, as well as other languages that I had often said I wanted to learn.
Im starting French Feb 1st so when I go over to Paris to celebrate turning 70 (9/2022), I’ll be able to communicate on a basic level. 😁
@@martihurford
the french will appreciate that very much.
the cubic petit marseillais soap lasts forever! it's like a stone, if you rub it on your body, it hurts when it meets a bone! the cube is only for hands. also don't drop it on your foot, it hurts too. 🙂
I love french chocolate! Also tapenade, miss all the fancy Bonne Mamman...
Interesting store tour in Paris and awesome experience to explore this place !! Nice sharing 🥰👍
Great video! It’s always nice to know which French grocery products are worth trying. Hopefully once we can travel safely to France again, to pick some of these items. Thanks for creating authentic content! I love your genuineness. Take care and I love French chocolate 😊
I enjoyed this video as well as the Christmas one. Both stores are filled with chocolate and I Love French Chocolate. Especially chocolate with a little Fleur d sel. I probably didn’t spell that correctly. Thank you very much for your tours. My heart is happy. 🍷
@Lauri Getbehead You only miss an "e", Fleur de sel !
I love French Chocolate! 🍫🍩 I love French Chocolate ❣ Did I mention how much I love French Chocolate? 🙃🍫
So , do you like french chocolate??🙂
Reminds me of Felix Potin in Paris 1980 😂 and I love French chocolate!
Spices could be such an interesting gift. I hadn't thought of shopping in the grocery store for gifts or souvenirs. I love French chocolate.
Not sure how I would respond if my friend went to France and gifted me a sponge or a rag to mop my floor lolz 😂
Ha I'm kind of in love with that fancy mop. Not that my house is exactly immaculate!!
not good, sponges as gifts no way
Ha! My crazy francophile friends would love the mop thing.
Lol 😂
Seems weird but then you think about your dear friend, many times, every time you use it...and they had to bring chocolate, too.... :)
Hi Diane, “I love French chocolate!!!!” Thank you for the lovely video! Your visit to the French supermarket brought a truly happy moment as it has inspired me to, once again, dream about visiting France with friends and family and imagine life beyond the pandemic. Merci beaucoup.
I love going to grocery stores wherever I travel. Also, I love French chocolate!
There's something interesting about seeing grocery stores in other countries. I can't wait until I'm able to get to Paris and see for myself. I love French chocolate. Thanks for the great video, keep them coming!
I love French chocolate! Also, a question: When I was living in France in the late 80s, French people were not so keen on grocery stores, and us university students were often laughed at with our huge carts in the Monoprix! I presume they like them more nowadays? Thanks for this tour - I miss France SO MUCH it's hard to express.
Hmm, I can't say I've seen any negativity toward French grocery stores or people being laughed at for using a cart. I'm sure there's a sentiment of people not liking big hypermarkets popping up and putting small businesses at risk (but not specific to France). In my experience, French people shop at grocery stores/ farmers' markets / specialty shops, etc. and they're all fair game.
I agree. I was there in 1985 and going to the supermarket was the last resort for shopping (in Narbonne where I was doing a homestay experience). Les Halles was the primary shopping venue...only went to the supermarket when I couldn't find ground beef for making an American meat loaf for my homestay family.
@@OuiInFrance Thank you for this response! I think back then more French people were using their specialty shops - baked goods from the bakery, charcuterie from the butcher, flowers from the flower market - and they'd go out every day for just what they needed that day...
@@NovaStar1967 Ha! Ground beef was in my mind when I wrote my comment! They got it in once a week and it was expressly for the international students such as myself. Hee hee
My husband loves Suchard chocolates and he will practically clear out the supply at a Monoprix the day we shop for items to take home. It never fails to get a laugh from the cashier. He doles them out carefully until our next year’s trip.
I can’t wait to get back to France someday. I had such a lovely time there with my sister and going to the local market was one of the highlights. I pick C and I also love french chocolate.♥️
I really like to see real world experiences like this from places I will be long or short staying. It makes me feel more confident when I travel. And of course I love french chocolate!
Of course I love French chocolate! But because I also love chestnuts I went onto Amazon and found both that chestnut spread and a pure paste by the same brand since the paste looked very sweet. I’ve started making macarons and I think a chestnut filling would be amazing. Currently I get chestnuts from a US company called D’Artagnan but the shipping cost is exorbitant! (But when my truffle butter runs out…) I don’t think I’d be thrilled with a mop rag as a souvenir but love seeing French products. Still waiting for Passion Fruit Bonne Maman Intense to hit my market but you should look for Dalmatia brand Sour Cherry from Croatia. I hooked up a local specialty market with the company so I could always have it. Literally the only preserves I buy now. Thanks!
Le Mont st michel is in Normandy not in Brittany. normans will get very moody if you get it wrong 😜
Right Le Mont Saint Michel is Normand !
I love exploring French supermarkets when I visit. I particularly love the French vanilla tea. It goes so well with chocolate. I love French chocolate!
Excellent gift ideas! Thank you ❤️
This is what the Brexiters will miss for ever now!
It will still be possible but with limits applied and probably more hassle at customs control - as a regular shopper at Leclerc in Outreau I think Brexit is a shambles and I hope for and expect a great deal more discussion which will eventually smooth some of the paths that are currently bumpy. I will hold in contempt forever our idiotic ideologues who think that Britain can get its Empire back or become the 51st State of the USA.
You sound so dramatic... Nothing will change.
I’m devastated about Brexit 😞
I don’t think I would give someone a rag as a souvenir. The cookies looked though
Diane! I enjoy watching all your videos. I love French chocolate, and everything shown in this video. Thank you for taking the time to share your life on UA-cam.
You are so welcome!
I love French Chocolate ! I love the people, the vibe, the real flower bouquets in restaurants and other places (I am a lover of flowers) the baguettes, the artistry, the architecture, the fact that some school children still use fountain pens with real ink!
I am looking forward to the day when I can return and visit this beautiful country.
Bravo, Diane, on an excellent Channel that you work so hard to put together and treat us to many aspects of life in France!!
I’ve been to Paris 4 times. In the beginning, I hit all the tourist spot and souvenir shops. Next trip, you go off the beaten path. The last 2 trips, my fave thing to do is go in grocery stores. My fave items to take home are the sauce mix: 3 pepper, bechamel etc etc. I also like taking home Bonne Maman package cakes and biscuits especially the Financiers. Affordable and delicious. I love French chocolate!
Trying to start my French language journey and loving the shopping videos! I love French chocolate and I’m thrilled you included more than that in the video as well!
Hi Diane , thanks for your nice blog. I appreciated your view on so many things in the French supermarkets that I just did not notice any more as special to our American friends. Your video really helps in making fun original gifts when we go back to the USA after the Covid disaster. Keep making these experiences which make people appreciate other cultures and experiences!
I love grocery stores around the world. It is always fun seeing special items and how things are done. I love french chocolate.
Very detail. I was in France every year and went to big grocery stores always in hurry. Next time in France I have to take sometimes enjoy the grocery store shopping . Thank you for your time to show us around. So entertaining.
Cool ideas, thank you! I’m in Paris now- visiting from San Diego. I am going to the monoprix in the morning to look for some of the things you mentioned. I really hope I can find the fountain pen and refills. I love all the great ideas! And I love French chocolate!
This was such a joy and brought back memories of staying in France. I love French chocolate. Thanks!
I love these ideas for my trip to France - whenever that might be. I love French chocolate too! ❤️❤️❤️
Grocery stores are my #1 place to go shopping while visiting exotic locations
I like the way you've created gifts with common supermarket products in order to bring a taste of France to your relatives overseas.
Supermarkets are always my first port of call when traveling. It's so interesting to see how the locals shop for everyday stuff and a great source of souvenirs.
My husband and I love going to grocery stores when we travel to other parts of the world, so many new and interesting things to see! I love French chocolate, thanks for the video!
Thank you for the tour. I love going to grocery stores in different areas. I love French chocolate!
Hi Diane, I love your videos! I love French Chocolate! I love France! When I was fortunate enough to visit Paris over 10 years ago, I actually did buy souvenirs at the small grocery store by my hotel! I bought a small carafe and a bowl and I am so glad I did. I still have these items and still use them. Thanks for all you did this year to keep myself and others occupied and thinking of beautiful places we’d love to visit someday. I have enjoyed it so much. Happy New Year!
I LOVE French chocolate! And your videos! Merci!!!
I love going to grocery stores in new cities and counties I visit. For the most part I bring home food products as souvenirs and gifts. I really enjoy watching grocery store videos. Also, I really enjoyed when you were doing live streams, you’d visit specialty stores and and different bakeries. Please keep doing videos like these. I love French Chocolate. ❤️❤️❤️
I love French chocolate! I got to visit France about 12yrs ago with my aunt and I agree the grocery store was one of my favorite places to get souvenirs at a good price. Plus I just enjoyed seeing the different products from what I’m use to and some of the same ones being from south Louisiana with our French heritage.
I love french chocolate and makes me happy to watch videos about French culture, society and language.
I’ve really enjoyed all of your videos from shopping to boating to destinations. Thanks so much. I love French Chocolate.
I would agree with these items. I brought home dish towels, soap and paper party napkins and every time I use them, I get so happy. The first time I brought home chocolates and typical tourist stuff that I don’t really notice anymore or don;t want to leave sitting out. Love these suggestions!
Thanks for showing us all the goodies at a french grocery store, because I love French chocolate! ;) Happy holidays! 🎉
One of my favorite activities in each country I visit is going to the local grocery store. Last time I was in France my favorite soap came from the grocery store, I love it and, of course, I love French chocolate, especially the dark variety.
Bonjour there's no denying it "I love french chocolate!". I really enjoyed the video everything looked so nice! Wishing you a happy new year filled with wonderful moments and many blessings from Ontario Canada!🥐🥖🍫🍮🍾
I love French chocolate AND even sardines! 30 years ago, I shopped in Metz at a grocery for souvenirs, so I really appreciate this.
This was so exciting to watch! Thank you for doing this video for us! Can’t wait to go back to visit France and get a few of these items you mentioned in the video. And, I love french chocolate! 🇫🇷 🍫
Great ideas!!!! Thanks for the tour!
I love French Chocolate!
I love these kinds of video's. When I'm in a foreign country I always go grocery shopping. In France I love the French chocolate, but also seasoning, the savon de marseille 😍, the butter, the syrups (Monin), oils (walnut, pistacchio etc). The French supermarkets are a joy, so hopefully there will be a time to visit again, cause due to Covid I haven't been even in Belgium let alone France.
Anyway, wishing you and your loved ones a much much better 2021 with lots of love, joy and in good health. 🤗
Supermarket is a joy.
French is : OMG I have to go once again 🤒
@@melaniezette886 No, that's only for French people, I've got the same feeling in the Netherlands. 😉
Diane!! I love French chocolate and your grocery store tour!! Thank you!!
I love French chocolate! I know its late but I also love all your other suggestions in this video. Going to the grocery store in other countries is one of the highlights of a trip for me!
What great gift ideas!
I LOVE French chocolate! Thank you for the video!
I Love French Chocolate! I can’t wait to be able to travel again, and use your ideas for souvenirs.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My favorite thing to do when traveling abroad is to shop at the local supermarkets. The supermarkets in France are so good and I was so disappointed that I had to cancel my trip in 2020. I love to bring home practical, local home goods and foods - last visit I brought home several pounds of French butter among other things like chocolate and skincare. I love French chocolate! As a baker, the kitchen tools and equipment are another thing I look for. Thank you for the detailed video. You do a great job of showcasing local places, foods and culture.
Thank you so much for showing us a slice of real life in France....and oh....I love French chocolate!
I love watching people go thru foreign grocery stores. And. I love French chocolate.
We love to shop the grocery stores for souvenirs whenever we travel, even stateside. I love French chocolate.
I love French chocolate! What a fun trip through a French grocery store. My favorites were the huge tea selection, the soaps, and of course, the chocolate! Your gift ideas and packaging are really great.
I LOVE French chocolate. I also love French grocery stores. My sister lives in France and I have actually bought souvenirs from the grocery stores!
One of my faves, totally inexpensive and a real treat to any Baker is the sucre vanillée ! I've only seen it in France and it just adds that extra *umph*to your baking. Plus, the cute tins and cases that things in France come in are so beautiful!!
Loved this video!!
Love seeing all the fun things from the grocery store. I love French chocolate!
Really enjoyed this! Thank you!
I love French chocolate. Love your channel. Thank you for all the time and effort you spend on sharing France with all of us!
I really enjoy your channel as with other US citizens living aboard. It makes me feel more connected to the world. I love French chocolate. Can't wait to see your next post 🇨🇵🗼🍷🍾
