My Top 5 Knitting and Yarn Shops Worldwide - A Special Episode!

- Yarn Journeys has a big milestone to celebrate! We've reached 1000 subscribers, and to mark the occasion I describe the five most distinctive knitting and yarn shops I've come across since starting the channel. I've visited, by my count, 39 yarn shops across 9 countries, and some really stood out! Of course, all knitting and yarn shops are full of wonderful yarn and fiber with great staff and knitting experts.

McKinney Knittery in McKinney Texas is amazing, so many choices and the staff is the absolute best! Very helpful and sweet ladies
The Tinsmiths Wife yarn shop in Comfort Texas is in an old building in downtown Comfort- the staff and selection there is amazing. And they have a cat ❤ 😊
Sealed with a Kiss in Guthrie Oklahoma is a beautiful cozy yarn store with a wonderful selection as well as helpful and friendly staff- it’s in an old building in downtown Guthrie and it’s just so cozy , there’s a big claw foot tub full of yarn to greet you ❤

Congratulations on reaching 1000 viewers! I have enjoyed your episodes so much. I can’t say what is my favorite yarn shop; it is too difficult to decide! I do like a yarn shop where there is some visual space to view what they offer. I know most shops have limited floor space (and floor space costs money every month), yet I think I experience some sort of yarn ADHD when I enter a yarn store crowded with yarn everywhere… perhaps there is just too much for my brain to process! I like one of our local yarn stores, Baa Baa Sheep, in Norfolk. They have a friendly staff, a wide rage of yarn from lace to chunky; lots of great notions and stay very current on the patterns, etc. popular to knitters. Wishing you many more great travels and videos!

I totally agree with you about the overwhelming feeling you get in yarn stars that are stuff yarn into every nook and cranny, and it’s hard to figure out where you’re going to look first - particularly when there’s tons of colorful hand-dyed yarn! And thanks about the tip about Baa Baa Sheep - maybe a Virginia Tidewater trip should be in the works! 🤔

I am relatively new to buying yarn in-person but one place that really stood out when I visited was “The Knitting Room” in Windham NY (in the Catskills area of the state)! I learned a lot about yarn just from stopping in there by chance, and even learned about the existence of yarn festivals (which I didn’t know was a thing before then!)
So glad you enjoyed the video!! And lucky for you that you get to travel for work. I used to travel a great deal for work, and I very much enjoyed it. [Sometimes, it got too much but that’s a hazard.]. And thanks for the tip for the Knitting Room. I’ve never been to the Catskills and hope to get there!
Are you coming to Knit CityToronto? Their shows are fabulous and the marketplace is a great place to shop.
The Knitting Loft in Toronto is amazing as is HandKnit Yarn Studio in Hamilton (old Farrow & Ball shop- gorgeous). This area of southern Ontario is called the Golden Horseshoe and has tons of great yarn shops.
