I just found this game a year ago on console. 6 months later I got a gaming PC and its the only game I am still playing at the moment. I have over a 1000 hours into it. It's def the greatest game ever created in my opinion. So awesome to see the transformation of this game. Honestly it looks like 2 completely different games.
I have been gaming since the 80s. Played alot of "The Oregon Trail" in elementary school computer class on Apple II's. This is the only game I have ever played that starting over again and again is always fun. Every new major Alpha release is like a fresh feel to a game you know but it is just better and different enough to be very interesting. I kind of wish it would just stay in Alpha forever and just keep evolving and evolving. Also with the Mods available that completely change the game, it does not get much better than this. The best survival game I have ever played, arguably in my head my favorite game I have ever played.
The replayability of 7DTD is incredible, mainly because of the excellent random world generation. I’ve been playing single player since A10 and every update is like getting a new game. Overhaul mods, like Darkness Falls and my new favourite Undead Legacy, take the game to whole new level. It’ll be a sad day when they finally stop updating 7DTD but at least it might be better optimised by then. Probably my favourite game of all time.
I bought this when it first came out, back before zombies could spawn inside houses, it was such an easy game, yet at the same time I had such a hard time surviving in it. I just played it yesterday, which is why the algorithm has gifted me this video. I love this game, have played it entirely to much and find it hard to get into it because of that. I love building massive bases that are designed to be destroyed, but have layers of fail safes to fall back on as I dig down into the earth. Excited to see where it's going, although after playing it, finally on all Ultra settings, it's looking very dated. The animations and blocky motions are not going to age well into the future, but the core components of it being minecraft for adults is going to be what attracts more players.
One of the greatest zombie survival games. I do wish that devs keeps updating this game. It might still be in Alpha, but let's be honest, each Alpha has been way more complete than many other "fully realeased games". Great video! Congrats!
Still this game is nowhere near complete after an entire decade. I've seen smaller companies produce more in shorter time than TFP have done in a span of a decade. The game is still a mess of problems too. It really sucks to know that I will likely die before I get to see this game's completion. It's unfortunate they only pace the game's development to drag out minimal effort for maximum profit gain.
I started in alpha 20, wanted to know the history because I remembered this game was terrible early on. Glad to know it started off with the best possible food, water, other bars and minimap, and the worst actual game; the grew up into a great game with the worst food and water display.
I played it back then. The Nuclear Fallout Zone was a dead-man's land. It was the game's border/edge and you'd die if you went into it very far at all. Fun side were how light changed over time. Early on, light slowed the zombies - later on they were slowed during the day and fast at night. The difference being you could toss torches at night and the zombies would slow down when passing by them - also, indoors during the day, they were always fast so blasting roofs on buildings, to get the building lit up inside, was a good idea at times. An interesting point is that there were 2 or 3 starting game options you could play - one of which was a survival mode. You appeared in a micro-map park and would get an air-drop of supplies. You then had to build a base before night and the zombies would come - every night was a 7th day "horde" night and each was harder/worse than the last night. You had to clean up the zombies in the day, get your supplies from the air-drop and prep for the night-fight which ran all night and the zombies all stayed until you killed them each day (they just didn't spawn until night)
I've had this game since "Dec 16 2013" X'D had to look it up on steam.. & still playing it. off & on. waiting for Alpha 20. Yes game has come far. people don't even realise what it was to start with to what it is today they not even alike.
Call it beta, call it alpha, call it whatever you want, point is, the devs are supporting this game and still putting out quality updates for years. Not many other gaming companies do that. One of the best games i've ever played, if not the best.
They way they've changed zombie intelligence to try and undermine players who could use clever defenses really disappoints me. Basically zombie intelligence has "improved" to the point where some of the only practical defense is to just put as many blocks or other defense options as you can between yourself and a horde. WW1 no-mans land style defense I suppose. I guess that's kinda cool? I feel like that's dumbed it down quite a lot though. If that's the kind of scenario the devs had intended though, then ok I guess.
Decided to play again and realized my last save was literally 2017 so thank you for basically making a catch up video I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing really important updates now that I'm starting out again.
I feel like the reason it's taking so many years is because they are gonna end up suddenly releasing an announcement trailer of it being up to date graphics, like a whole new game. So they just add these new versions every now and then to keep us waiting
You forgot the most important updates. They switched from minecrafty blocks to a smoother terrain system. This not only looked much more realistic, but is also what made it viable to add vehicles. Later, they also switched from the minecraft grid to a much simpler system that did not require endless wiki hunting. Previously they also had things like small rocks, big rocks, medium rocks etc. They simplified crafting a lot which in turn made the game much more enjoyable. Same goes for the skill system which has gone through many iterations
I backed it on kickstarter in 2013 as a 15 yo... sent them a msg now and they got me a steam key so I could install it again, remember it as zombie mc, and look forward to trying it again, enjoyed it a lot back then
You should have mentioned how much they removed / broke, list is probably longer than what they actually added instead. Devs never had a clear vision of what the hell they wanted to make.
What you forgot to mention is amount of work done to random map generation. I didn't like original alpha because of premade map but as soon as it became procedural it got VERY fun. Map generator changed a ton during the years, starting with simple hex separated by rivers to having huge landscapes with distant terrain making game look beautiful.
i feel like they should just focus on this game for now instead of this game + 2 unfinished ones. its been 8 years and this game is still in alpha stage.
@@Hanex94 yeah its a good game but I wish the devs would actually put time into it instead of working on other projects since this game has a decent sized fanbase
I joined during Alpha 16, am still playing, and have clocked over 3200 hours in this game according to Steam. That's like 4 months without food or sleep... or a full time job for 80 weeks. The addiction is real.
The game went totally wrong way after a15. A16 was still good but 17 was where it all went bad. Nowadays, theyre taking 12-18 months for an update, where they simplify and overhaul game systems over and over, remove features that actually made the game unique, and add content worth of maybe two months of work. Content which continue to make it an fps. Where are the gun parts that actually matter? Remember when you could take time searching for that better shotgun barrel? Where is wellness? The awesome idea which made creating better food actually worthful. No other game had such system. What happened to action skills? Wet concrete? Food smell? What happened to the biome with cool atmosphere - burnt forest? Why did it have to be removed? Why give us stuff then remove it? What happened to the several wall tiers? I dont have materials for cobblestone yet, i want to reinforce mine with scrap metal. Well, no deal for me. Zombies? On one side nowadays they always seem to know where you are, and will dig straight down with a speed of light. Underground base is pointless. On another side, you still can outsmart them with ease. Bases are kinda pointless anyway nowadays, because they made the traders the main hub of the game. They not only remove stuff, but also overhaul countless times. Skills, weapons, zombies.. I heard another skills overhaul is coming, which will take away another way to play the game, and dumb it down further. Also..Since your updates are so scarce... Why waste work time on f***** new textures for 3rd time FOR THE SAME**** ZOMBIES? They arent even better. Hd guns? Awesome. Need 15 months of work and 37472947 dev videos and blog posts about it. Not to mention the 9 years of alpha, yet they still dont have their base stuff settled? I could go over and over, but its pointless. Theyre realising their vision of a simple, dumb fps with a bit of survival. I guess that's what most people want nowadays. Such a shame, because back in 2016-17 the game had HUGE potential. From an alpha 14-16 it could only be better, if they continued to add stuff, like what was already in the game. Polish it and optimize. Big disappointment. The only reason why i still play it, are the big mods like ravenhearst or darkness falls. Funny part is that, all the biggest mods bring back ton of old stuff. (Almost like people actually liked it) In its kinda broken and messy way, because due to the game engine, the devs have to use strange workarounds. But its still milion times better than the bland and boring vanilla. Well, maybe its not THAT bad, but when you remember the old alphas.. It just hurts when you remember what it used to be.
One of my favorite games, this is such a "down memory lane" video. What I personally hope they add soon is more electrical features, to begin with electrical furnance and "cooking station", using electric instead of fuel.
I got this during alpha 2 and I knew that it was going to be a great game if they kept up development. Boy was I right. This game I just can’t help but keep coming back to.
@@TheMavosa Yes, but they eventually got the rights back after Telltale went under and have stated they would like to port it to next gen consoles. Problem is with Fun Pimps who the hell knows when that will be.
One thing that should be noted, is how in the original Alphas, enemies would spawn and attack you at night time, some alphas later, zombies no longer had 'gps' for night time and you now could hide from the enemy, horde attacks were moved to once every week.
I started playing this with my cousin when it came out on console. Eventually upgraded to PC and haven't looked back. It's become one of my favorite zombie games even with it's quirks/bugs
I got this game for a gift from my friend...We spend months on a server building a large base until admin kicked us both and banned us for no reason but we did play alone and put a lot of hard work and effort into building and surviving ..after that we did not return together...7, 8 years later i am still surprised game is still in early access.. when i saw alpha 17 update i wanted to get back in but having a gyro chopper would ruin the fun of survival for me
I pre-ordered the game as well. I was so pumped up playing a whole new style of gaming in early access that has huge potential. I am playing till this day in early access. ( that's my real only huge negative to the game). but other than that it keeps getting more and more interesting.
I think when i purchased the game on Steam it was either still in A16 or just rolled over to A17. The thing(s) i remember from back then was you could cut into zombie corpses and pick up their flesh but carrying rotten flesh added a radius of scent that would cause you to be detected, and that drinking Yucca Juice had a temporary cooling effect to stave off the overheating in the desert.
I remember i friend telling me years ago that you could shoot the bottom of the trees to make them fall to collect supplies. And just how broken it was lol i never say it till now
Any chance you could upload them somwhere on the web as it is so hard for me to find the old versions :)? the reason why i want to play an older version is for nostalgia cuz ive used to play this since alpha 5 then saldy my dad didnt let me play on his PC again but now i have a good gaming pc but i cant find the older versions cuz i use a file scanner from the web and most installers for it have viruses :l

If you play on console, then you definitely remember because they are still waiting for an update. Lol
Console will never experience the full game
no shit
Actually we will be getting an update in max 1 year
@@danjal69 that's what they said 4 years ago
@@iamyourgod530 I literally built a pc just to play 7 days to die on pc lol

Time for an updated version of this video.
Do they plan to release full game or just an update subscription instead? Seven years is a long to make a game.
Meanwhile console still looks like the day it started Bc we don’t get updates 😭
Right? I'd get back into it if we got updates
We are getting an update in max 1 year
@@danjal69 how do you know that?
@@gregcuevas7738 The Fun Pimps announced on their page they are hiring people to port the finished game over. 😁
Mindy P finally I was so sad when I knew console was stuck in a15
Call it beta, call it alpha, call it whatever you want, point is, the devs are supporting this game and still putting out quality updates for years. Not many other gaming companies do that. One of the best games i've ever played, if not the best.
You missed alpha 15. It added dozens of new POIs, and traders to the map, as well as landmines to the wasteland, and some new zombie types.
I actually miss the pre alpha version of this game. The pre-alpha is nostalgic for me.
Eh, just play console 😅😪
Decided to play again and realized my last save was literally 2017 so thank you for basically making a catch up video I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing really important updates now that I'm starting out again.
20 years later...
7 days to die A.187 ver update!
Nope, official release July 2024. 1.0 stable.
i remember watching 7 days to die youtubers back in 2013 2015 and thinking it was so fun
I've joined the game on Alpha 14 back in 2016... Still play this game today with my girlfriend. Amazing video! Thank you!
I've always followed this games future and I've loved it for 7 years, ironic
Why is that ironic?!
9:40 dude why are your settings so low when talking about graphical improvements
I feel like the reason it's taking so many years is because they are gonna end up suddenly releasing an announcement trailer of it being up to date graphics, like a whole new game. So they just add these new versions every now and then to keep us waiting
Unless ur on console then get screwed ur still in 2013
alpha 16 was the best update and you cant change my mind
You forgot the most important updates. They switched from minecrafty blocks to a smoother terrain system. This not only looked much more realistic, but is also what made it viable to add vehicles. Later, they also switched from the minecraft grid to a much simpler system that did not require endless wiki hunting. Previously they also had things like small rocks, big rocks, medium rocks etc. They simplified crafting a lot which in turn made the game much more enjoyable. Same goes for the skill system which has gone through many iterations
cool video i enjoyed thanks man
I backed it on kickstarter in 2013 as a 15 yo... sent them a msg now and they got me a steam key so I could install it again, remember it as zombie mc, and look forward to trying it again, enjoyed it a lot back then
Enjoyed that, thanks man!
You should have mentioned how much they removed / broke, list is probably longer than what they actually added instead. Devs never had a clear vision of what the hell they wanted to make.
The nostalgia is rolling in
Just get a console and go back to 2013😂😂
Wonder if we'll ever see Blood Moon at stabe 60 or 144 fps.
I started in alpha 10, i love how fast and how frequently updated this game is
What you forgot to mention is amount of work done to random map generation. I didn't like original alpha because of premade map but as soon as it became procedural it got VERY fun. Map generator changed a ton during the years, starting with simple hex separated by rivers to having huge landscapes with distant terrain making game look beautiful.
I liked this vid, I got in around the end of A14 so it's interesting seeing coverage on the older stuff.
i feel like they should just focus on this game for now instead of this game + 2 unfinished ones. its been 8 years and this game is still in alpha stage.
It could easily pass for a full release. I really don’t care what it’s named, it’s great to play and that’s what matters
@@voyager1420 it definitely could not pass for a full release game yet. still wayy too many bugs and glitches to be fixed.
@@ZayP730 09.06.2021 17200 players .... not bad for an Alpha with a huge mod community.
@@ZayP730 Bought it a week ago and dropped like 120 hs into the game already, it really be scratchung some itches that no other games can
@@Hanex94 yeah its a good game but I wish the devs would actually put time into it instead of working on other projects since this game has a decent sized fanbase
It just hurts when you remember what it used to be.
agree 100 % my favorits are 15 and 16 and I still dont play alpha 20
Awesome video, thank you 😊 you didn't mention the sleeper zombie introduction in..A15?
Nice recap. I started playing this whwen it was first released on Steam. I stopped playing in about 2018 and recommenced in 2021. Fun times.
installed this Dec 14th 2013.
They need to update the console version dang it 😔
Ik
Never... You can dream...
the console game rights were sold to a different studio. The PC game are the original Devs
So from 2013 to 2021 they added shadows and a few textures. I played the game back then, looks better than it does now.
I started playing this with my cousin when it came out on console. Eventually upgraded to PC and haven't looked back. It's become one of my favorite zombie games even with it's quirks/bugs
I got this game for a gift from my friend...We spend months on a server building a large base until admin kicked us both and banned us for no reason but we did play alone and put a lot of hard work and effort into building and surviving ..after that we did not return together...7, 8 years later i am still surprised game is still in early access.. when i saw alpha 17 update i wanted to get back in but having a gyro chopper would ruin the fun of survival for me
I think 7D2D is the best zombie survival game ever made! Very interesting video, thx
"Speed up the production and release alpha"
Yeah. Speed is nowhere to seen in this game's production.
Gotta appreciate how recently in alpha 20 they made the lighting sooo much better
Game is still amazing. I just wish the game could optimize the graphics even more. Though, the devs did an amazing job optimizing the game in A20.
I pre-ordered the game as well. I was so pumped up playing a whole new style of gaming in early access that has huge potential. I am playing till this day in early access. ( that's my real only huge negative to the game). but other than that it keeps getting more and more interesting.
No mention of the terrain smoothing or the introduction on random map generation? They were pretty big changes.
I think I started an alpha or 2 before random gen became a thing. If I remember I started the alpha before "7 days to break your leg"
i will prebuy the game for my grand-grandkids, for the beta of course, and i hope they buy the 1.0 for their grandkids
Remember living through the update that brought zombie dogs, get a pack of them on ya real fast in some places, i still have ptsd.
I miss the giant bees, and their giant nests in destroyed houses.
You have to hand it to the Fun Pimps they definitely never abandoned their game.
you need to redo this video after a 21 or reupload it

I think when i purchased the game on Steam it was either still in A16 or just rolled over to A17. The thing(s) i remember from back then was you could cut into zombie corpses and pick up their flesh but carrying rotten flesh added a radius of scent that would cause you to be detected, and that drinking Yucca Juice had a temporary cooling effect to stave off the overheating in the desert.
This was alpha 16- Smell was removed in Alpha 17.
I remember i friend telling me years ago that you could shoot the bottom of the trees to make them fall to collect supplies. And just how broken it was lol i never say it till now
been through it all, glad i did ;) still have the 1.0 installer ;) in fact, i still got installers from 1.0 all the way up to 10.2 ;)
Any chance you could upload them somwhere on the web as it is so hard for me to find the old versions :)? the reason why i want to play an older version is for nostalgia cuz ive used to play this since alpha 5 then saldy my dad didnt let me play on his PC again but now i have a good gaming pc but i cant find the older versions cuz i use a file scanner from the web and most installers for it have viruses :l
