⚠⚠Thanks to @ChessatheCalico and @Skitzobunnie who both called out that the stability information I used is incorrect. Cobblestone and Concrete have the same stability now, just different health, so you could build this with cobble if you wanted to (due to the low health it might not be a good idea, but it's not going to fall down due to stability issues!)
I finally found the time to retire, after a hectic few months wrapping things up at work. Now I have a ton of your content to watch and enjoy, Cp. Looking forward to it.
You seriously make some of the best 7d2d content, so well thought out and well explained, I feel like I could actually build this after just 1 watch. I hope you get more traffic now that 1.0 came out!
I did a similar build recently with a 3x3 fighting hole and used mollys every time the puppies and kittens got piled up. This was so cheap it was laughable at first, but after rads showed up I has so shift to explosives. Also a web of electric fences for the fall is hilarious but hard on those potato PCs. Side note: If you put the tiny half poles in staggered patterns on the walls you get to play Zombie Plinko!!
Haha yeah the fences are brutal, although I think I read last night the latest exp release has an improvement for fences. I don't know how effective it is though.
Thank you for the time and effort to provide this video. I have built this base and used it on two horde nights. What I am seeing is when I am down inside dropping pipe bombs, zombies will jump across to the force field blocks and up to the top before trying to come down the hatch. If I stay up on top, they don't jump across and just fall into the pit. Works great until getting hit with cop spit, vultures and the occasional turret blast that forces me to retreat back into the base for health regen. I just rewatched this build for at least the 10th time and did notice my side poles are not done the same. I used poles on every block, 9 blocks down to create a path instead of dropping a pole on the 9th block. My error and I will fix it before the next horde. I am hopeful this will stop them from jumping across. I am considering using a different type of forcefield block to create a thin path that I can walk across to access the base, and then a ladder up to the top. This should prevent them from somehow using the forcefield blocks and allow for them to tumble into the pit.
I was excited to build this in non-creative. It took a considerable amount of work, but it works alright. The biggest issues that I am running into is I'm not 100% certain on the placement of the poles on the wall of the hole. I rotated them until the pole was horizontal, at the top of the block, and placed them on the level above the lower ring support. Yet zombies seemed confused, and just hung around the upper edge, sometimes hitting on the edge, sometimes knocking each other into the pit, but that seemed to be the only way they'd end up down below. I ended up, out of frustration, putting more of those poles around the inside of the pit, just above the lower support. I'm not sure if there is a maximum those poles can be from the upper lip before zombies don't see them as a viable path or not. I was even considering zigzagging the poles down the entire wall to see if that might help. When we initiated a blood moon, it got chaotic fast, with zombies trying to leap onto the top of our suspended base, eventually breaking a hole through the concrete in places. Unfortunately for us, we'd also maxed out the blood moon horde to 64 and set days to 120 minutes, so that was a slog. When we went down to clean things up after, that's where things were interesting too. They'd knocked down the steel door we placed at the bottom, and beyond that, started tunnelling off in a random direction. And a lot of the ladder was destroyed, but halfway up, opposite the ladder, someone had started tunnelling back towards the pit, but below the level of our suspended base. Was very curious. And something else we noticed during the horde night is that it almost appears there can only be so many loot bags on the ground... we were watching them disappear from above, even though they'd only been around for a couple minutes. Again, with a 64-size horde, things were fast and furious, so the drops were plentiful. So best we can figure, only so many hang around before the oldest ones get despawned. Frustrating, since no way we're going down there mid-horde to pick them up. I mean, I fell through the hole once, and didn't last long. :D Curious if you might have any suggestions regarding some of the issues we ran into though.
Pro tip ... dig down from the corners and the middle on the sides, then dig around the perimeter, then up and down, dig out the middle and let the entire center collapse. Way faster than actually digging out the center.
This is awesome. After scouring through every block combination possible to use for a zombie pit I made, those tiny pillars to use for pathing are all i needed this wnole time. And while i do want to build this entire thing, i try my best not to use full builds from UA-cam. You've definitely earnt my sub none the less!
I built a base almost exactly like this 2 years ago on my channel. Its a great base design that you cant go wrong with. I attached mine to the side of a trader POI that way I can utilize the indestructible blocks as my support laterally. Just food for thought for you, it may spark another base design idea. Always nice to stumble upon these humble creators for 7D2D, been playing for many years and im always happy to find more and more smaller channels giving it their all for this game. Great video
I might be misunderstanding, but I'm attempting this build right now beside a trader and while I can destroy blocks up to 3 tiles away from a trader fence, I can only build 5 blocks away, so I think that means Z's can destroy that 2-block difference from bedrock to surface. Although they wouldn't be able to destroy anything further than that in the trader's direction. Is this different since your build from 2 years ago and is no longer a good idea?
Great to see you getting more subs and recognition (saw you on GNSs' weekend thing). The first time I came across your stuff was when you made a swimming pool POI, and you've been steadily upping your game since then.
11:58 "Cube 1/2 Thin Window", for anyone else that doesn't want to dig through a separate 8-minute video to find the block he used. I wish you had named this forcefield block, or shown it in the list of blocks so I could pause the video and read what it is. I AM LAZY UTUBER.
Apologies for not putting these in! I thought I was doing the right thing by offering choice, but 100% I should have listed what I used, then provided options for those that wanted something else. Sorry! (and thanks for listing it for others)
Thanks @CautiousPancake! This concept is very cool. I like the minimal ammo expenditure for this one as well as the use of forcefield and invisible blocks.
Hi. Thanks for the video. Returning player from early alpha, so the information on the mechanics and how/why it works is awesome. You did a really excellent job of explaining specifics and the editing was top tier. As an aside: I’m trying to steer clear of a floating anything on invisible supports, but my save is not far enough along where I’ve been forced into needing something like this.
Thanks! A few people (as I expected) also don't like the invisible supports - and one of the great suggestions (I think it was Oktokolo) was to use wedge slides - the wedge narrow series with the pointy up top will force the zombies to slide off if they try and run over it, and would be a good option to use to stop the zombies getting to the main pillar section. You could use most of the zombie droppers as well - if you want to see the options for those - this should be useful: ua-cam.com/video/lvAnz-dUYJ0/v-deo.html
This is what i was looking for. i'm a "mole" type of player. I like to make use of the undergroud area for both bases and horde fighting structures, which, of course, means pitfalls. And it's been a long time since i played this game and now that the 1.0 is out i needed to find and know of a horde pitfall that works. This is it. So thanks.
Can I just say, you're editing and cinematic shots are on point! I've loved seeing your videos evolve over time, Cautious Pancake, and your voice is a perfect counterpoint to the videos. As always, top tier product, and I'm looking forward to the next awesomeness to come our way!
After scrolling through comments, it would appear a few people have run into the same problem I just did where zombies went straight for my access door and broke their way back up. Looking forward to the next horde night after I took out those bottom few ladders so they dont see the path back up anymore lol.
With the current changes to screamers im finding im getting a ton of screamers coming to my base. Bases with screamer defenses might be a good video. Thank you pancake.
I haven't had a single screamer yet and I'm up to day 57. Don't use any torches for lighting or candles - only use two things at once - like only use a single campfire with a single forge. Don't mine any of the metallic ores nearby those will attract screamers. Keep crouched when you're inside - just opening and closing storage crates can attract them. Click F1 Type dm click F8 two times. It'll show you the heat of the chunk you're in. When it gets to 100%, you'll get screamers.
I don't know if this will work with the current build of the game, but I had a strategy that I used to use. I would build a small elevated "mini-horde" base consisting of mostly a single lane with some blocks I could melee through. I would place this a little ways away from my base, but well within viewing distance. Because of the small footprint of this mini-base, I never had any issues with it being targeted during horde nights. Then I would put around 50-100 torches on some poles that were part of that structure. The idea was a dedicated "hot spot" that would bring the screamers there. I would often find them circling around on the ground below the torches. The downside of this idea is that it will create more screamers. The upside is that it directs them to a certain spot. (If it still works in the current build.) Depending on my mood, I could either snipe screamers from my base or run over there and jump on the mini-base for some extra xp.
@@littlepotato2741 You can just drink a couple of Megacrushes and run around - helps if you have parkour 2 so you can jump over fences and they can't. I call that a Megacrush base. lol
Interesting principle basic idea behind that "floating" construction. You might as well use ordinary visible blocks which the zombie AI "doesn't like" as path, but can be repaired if touched by zombies. You may as well use vertical stacks of them to give the base a much higher stability. The vertical distance from the ground not only affects spitting of cops, but also the tendency of zombies spreading out versus concentrating in the middle. The lower you set your fighting platform, the more the zombies will spread out. When higher than the spit range, the zombies seem to only just stack at the exact center below your feet.
With the invisible blocks from the side they don't really get hit as the zombies don't swing there. From the bottom they do get hit in the scrum underneath, I found that out in the original test video, since I'd thought originally that invisible blocks wouldn't get any damage except for explosions, but that wasn't the case! Interesting observation on the zombie spread, something to look into!
i thank you. I used you AFK base in Alpha 21 and it lasted to day 56. cop explosions damaged it but I found a slight hack in that I was able to use pipe bombs to kill both cops and demos. it was a good experience all round
@@CautiousPancake it uses triangles with blocks as the base. you named it your 100% AFK base but you did 4 sides. I only used 1side, 5 blocks high. the zombies would congregate at the base block with the triangles. from my height I just throw Molotov or/and pipe bombs. I first used it in the Dishawn tower challenge mod in alpha 21. It was damaged due to the cop exploding, especially the radiated ones and Demos. It is one of my favorite ones!
@@CautiousPancake So if made the 15 x 15 block pit fully surrounded in concrete blocks for example, with the peggle 1/4 bars and double double blocks would they attack the blocks or as the video shows, we would see the same actions from the zeds?
@@CautiousPancake I can imagine just digging down, but as it's damaged putting in concrete blocks to replace the damaged bottom walls. So it gets even stronger as the zoms do too over time…
Nicely done, Cautious. I was wondering when you'd be uploading a new video, as it's been a while. I saw JaWoodle do a similar pit base, had a bit of trouble. Had two collapses, which happens. Would love to see you do another series soon!
Cheers Wiz! I skipped the wed vid to get some extra work in on this one - hopefully it was worth it :) I'll have to go find the Jawoodle vid now too :D
Good stuff! I'm accomplishing the same basic thing by using a derelict residential house - Jacob's residence. It had collapsible floors on three floors that all line up. I sit up in the attic hardly doing a thing. My idea was to avoid horde nights so I kept my game stage down. I didn't see any demolishers until day 56. lol
Important stability correction, cobblestone and concrete have the same mass & support ratings(10 & 120) with only a difference in health(1500 & 5000). So while I wouldn't recommend cobblestone for something like this due to the significantly lower health, it technically will hold up just as well as concrete does until blocks start breaking. Steel on the other hand has a weight of 20 with a support of 300 so you can significantly improve stability by using it for the blocks lining the shaft that are connected to bedrock at the drawback of that stability degrading much faster as the blocks below them get disconnected from bedrock.
Thanks Skitz! I didn't test that, and got done over by my outdated knowledge :D Not sure when it changed now, obviously back in A21 or maybe earlier... I've added a pinned comment to help correct this, thanks again!
@@roberterskine1301 I've not tested full steel, but it should be ok as it's both heaver, but stronger. but don't go concrete on the supporting rings, and steel in the middle, that will fail for sure.
@@roberterskine1301 Steel blocks are best used primarily on blocks that are secured all the way to bedrock for stability. You can use a few blocks beyond that but due to the increased weight, you get diminishing returns for stability the further from your bedrock connection you get.
@@Skitzobunnie So what you're saying is, if I build this base exactly as described but if I wanted to build the outer ring and the inner base out of metal, that wouldn't be a good idea?
Hi.. love your vids. Explained so well. I'm not the best builder in the world, only been playing this a month or so. But I'm looking at designing a base similar to this, but I'm not a fan of just dropping bombs on them... its a bit non active.. i'd rather shoot and stabby stabby😀. So I was thinking about using this pit, but have them drop into a cage. Have an outer corridor around the cage where I can run around and do what needs to be done... Haven't got it all in my head correct yet.. but you get the idea. Also want to have the home base combined. Currently have a POI as a base, and a separate Horde ramp/path base.
Great job, CP! About the zombies vanishing. I suspect they are suffering the same bug founded early release: players downing ladders and dying by jump in the end. I have founded another related bug: my eletrified pit is a steel double floor, full block below and 3/4 on top of it so I can repair it after horde. But, sometimes zombies jumping right into the tiny vain they just get stucked in the block. That's why I think there is some sort of problem with "free fall" and you/zombies could die, get stuck or just vanishing.
Yeah the vanishing was pretty rare for me - and from memory it happened back in A20 for the lemming tower as well, so that part is not new - could even just be zombies falling too far or fast, or a missed collision detection. The 3/4 block stuck part sounds fun too :D
Hey great video and amazing base, I'm having a bit of a problem tho. I'm on 1.1 (b14) and some zombies started digging through the ground surrounding the base to get closer to me instead of using the poles to fall down. They still mostly do, but as soon as one or two zombies dug a path downwards most of them use that instead of falling off the poles. The base is still kinda working as intended, but the digging can end up at one of the supporting railings and that could become a problem over time. Not sure if they changed the pathfinding or if my base is too high up (it starts at elevation 62), but thought I might just let you know in case someone runs into the same problem
Another great base, thanks! I love using pit bases and explosives for the ballet of spiraling limbs, torsos and heads. :D Just need to stock up on OhShitDrops first.
Yes, they do help a lot 😊 There are so many mechanics in the game that it is not easy to build a suitable horde base for late game, a crafting base that doesn't generate too much heat etc. There are just unlimited possibilities 😃 @@CautiousPancake
Lol. Some dudes criticizing FireSpark for his little pit in his starter base. I've gotta link them to This! Lol. Ultimate Pit of near-indestructibility FTW!!
This looks nice but I love the 3x3 pit best. I add an extra wall so it's actually 5x5 but it works from early to late game great and uses very little material compared to most others. I also use electric fences at the bottom timed for the last hour of horde night.
Yeah, the 3x3 pit works very well - especially with the fences as you say. This was designed for my infinity horde series where the combination of more demos (as there are no waves without them like a normal horde) and longer horde nights meant that the 3x3 just didn't hold up. This was designed to work for the final horde that never ended - and would hopefully have worked until I ran out of ammo :D
Everyone having problems not removing 2 ladders but I cant get the 0.025 poles to work for zombie pathing. I put them 9 blocks down and they just don't want to path to them, they only jump or aimlessly fall down.
This is the issue that I have encountered as well. We built it to what we believe is an exact copy of the base in the video, but I'm still a bit fuzzy on how the pathing works. Still, we followed it like the video, and what ends up happening is the zombies end up jumping from the edge, banging into the base, though most just wander around the perimeter. I've yet to actually observe one try hopping down to the pole. The closest I get is when one zombie pushes another in.
Do zombies catch on fire on top of campfires? Could I use then to prevent rage mode? I have a pit and a way out of the pit, if I place campfires on this corredor would zombies catch on fire and stop rage Mode?
They do catch fire, but not very quickly or effectively. I tried this near the end of my attempt to use cactii to kill zombies if you want to see how well it didn't work :D ua-cam.com/video/meaLktYh4Hc/v-deo.html as for preventing them from raging as they climb out of the pit - can you dig them a staircase or similar that's far enough away from you that they are never closer than 12 blocks to you - if so they shouldn't ever go into rage mode (as long as they think they have a viable path to you).
I ended up doing a similar base but used wedges for support. They just fall down and hang in center. To avoid cop spit I put water in the pit 3 blocks high. I was using explosive arrows but I think I’ll put a few dart traps on the bottom of my base pointing down the center to eliminate the mobs. :)
For the vid I used creative mode, when I've done similar builds in playthoughts the dig can take a few days, depending on your tools, stamina regen, and skill points for mining. Also depends if you're playing single player you can dig around the outside then collapse it all by then just digging out the bottom, but it'll spawn some screamers for sure, and is frowned (or banned) on for multiplayer servers.
I built this and it works great. Only issue I've encountered is some of the zombies will go for the door to the maintenance pit and then will go up the ladder. This Isn't too big of deal though cause once they reach back up to the surface they just go back and fall down the pit again. I do wish i could stop them from going for the door and ladders so i could get bigger clusters of kills. Still decent horde setup though and even though some wander to the door you can get decent kills.
Awesome, glad it's working for you! To stop the zombies going for the door and ladder leave two empty spaces at the bottom of the ladder. You can jump up and grab it, but the zombies won't 👍
is there a way to switch to the stability visibility mode in multiplayer? I've been playing with some friends and im curious. I've never messed around with god mode before and this has inspired me to create something crazy for our horde nights. In the past we've just utilized POI military bases and such, but recently coming back for 1.0 our day 14 was terrifying with the zombie wolves lol :O
I just built this, and it worked pretty well ... but I had to shorten the entrance area, zombies were actually jumping across it. And other than occasionally running over to the door in the bottom and beating on it, worked good. I think I do have a wooden double double in there somewhere by accident, but once placed I couldn't see it or upgrade it :)
@@TheInsainJester I've had reports that going to steel caused issues, but it was mostly in situations where partial steel was used, and it seems that the extra weight was causing issues. My view is that it's not worth wasting steel on since there's so little damage, but that's just me!
Sometimes for sure - but not always in the manner they are intended for :D : ua-cam.com/video/oT5evh6CYCU/v-deo.html (note that this might have been fixed, I've not re-tested)
Tip for stability in case of wall damage: any spot where there is host ore sand, replace that, it has one of the lowest stability and attachment scores of any block in the game, as well as a super low health. (I mean, you probably want the ore eventually too, but, the sand is more important as far as wall health goes.)
@@CautiousPancake i had a bunch of super early day bases keep crumbling on me, then noticed that some places had better stability than others, plus by then i was mining a good bit, and finally put two and two together and realized that the sand was the problem all along lol.
Yeah, I tried to create a "path" with them with each pole 8 blocks down and one block over. I don't think it mattered though. As long as the first pole is (I think) between you at the bottom of the base and the lip ot the pit they should want to drop to get closer. If you're not sure try a few options in case there's issues.
That's a great idea - my one concern would be that zombies can do weird pathing around mountains - sometimes digging in the side and underneath, rather than running up to the top!
That would be a fun project! maybe start with a tower sticking up above ground, with a usual ramp up and push-dropper, then slowly dig down, building in supports as you go? Risk of collapse obviously, but that could be scary/fun too!
Just had my first horde night with this build, but all the zombies wanted to break down my secret side doors that lead down into the pit, and hardly any of them dropped in. I placed those "pillar 0.025m 1/2 side centered" blocks around the inside (two on each face of the pit) near the top for them to jump down to but none of them saw it. 13:41 doesn't mention any distances from the surface so I assumed they could go mostly anywhere as long as they were near-ish to the top. Is that incorrect? I had to make some changes to my build also, which might be the cause. I had to start at a depth of 35-ish instead of ~40, but I still counted 32 blocks up like you show in the video. I ended up making the survivor room taller to compensate. Would this have caused the issue, maybe? Does my character need to be vertically deeper in the pit for the zombies to want to fall in?
I think you've called it correctly and you're too close to the top. I'd try dropping your floor down from 32 blocks away to 30 blocks away, then give it a test with some daytime zombies if you've got any nearby. At that range you should still avoid most cop spit, maybe one here and there when the zombies are stacked 3 or 4 high and a cop happens to be on the top of the stack. For the poles - yes it doesn't matter how far down, although I'd go for 7 or 8 blocks. 10 or more I think they don't see it as a path (from KZ's video) and if it's too close to the top you'll get more landing on the half pole than you want. Sounds like you're pretty close though!
Could you have "paths" with your patented droppers? like half plates or even a staggered pillar system? I switch between the half plates and making a path of .05 pillar centered and .05 half pillar centered, placed vertically kind of like the supports for the your first infinity horde base. The zombies can run across them if they are the same height, but making them drop to the half pillar causes them to fall every time. I did that in my last Darkness Falls base because you do not want anything near you on horde night.
Yeah, if you wanted to have a more direct path in, or use droppers that make the base less "floating in space" then you could absolutely use droppers. You'd just need to also make sure that you had a backup combat area in case too many zombies push at once - as that can sometimes get them across.
They won't make everything underneath it invisible no, and if you're standing on a normal floor under a forcefield roof, they will still try and get to you via a different path. Also, forcefield blocks only "hide" from the zombie pathing if there's a 3 block gap underneath them, and an alternate path to get to you, if you don't do that the pathing will go weird.
If you want to do it without force fields and invisible supports, you can use wedge slides doubling as zombie paths and support. You could even line the pit with wedge slides and be able to slide down yourself after horde night and climb up again after cleanup. P.S.: Don't remember ever seeing four zombies climbing on each other before. Did their behavior change in A22/1.0?
Hey Oktokolo! Wedge slides for sure would work, I just liked the look without them, but not everyone likes unsupported buildings I know! :D And I wasn't sure on the 4 high zombies - but checking the previous invisible block video, they were 4 high then back in A21 too - check out here, which starts at the right spot: ua-cam.com/video/64edNelNS1U/v-deo.htmlsi=dExaUinABd66RDv5&t=347
@@CautiousPancake It's pretty cool that they stack that high. Guess, i got lucky with my 4 blocks high noob coops because early hordes aren't that big. I would totally like if The Fun Pimps would make them actively form ladders for their comrades to scale walls. It would nerf fortniting and parkour in POIs a bit and give them a more swarm-like feel (they home in on you at horde nights already - so why not).
@@CautiousPancake I don't think, the average horde base would have to change much. It would be more an immersion thing and some POIs might become a bit more spicy. In general, i would like them more to try scaling walls and actually swarming you from all sides instead of them all bee-lining to the one perceived weakness (which normally is a loop or some other pathing exploit anyways). I think, the smart ass zombies encourage cheesy builds. So the zombie ladder thing would need to be something that just happens semi-randomly even when there is a mathematically easier path.
Quick question ? i made, as far as i know the same plan that you explain... but all the zombie tend to go anyway for the door and try to come back by bursting to the wall or for the most intelligent… climb right up to fall down again... for the early blood moon its not a problem but for the further one, i dont think i'll be able to maintain the stability. i play in multiplayer, and i think that when my friend joined up my game, thats where the problem started... could it be that ?
If the zombies are going for the door and climbing the ladder, you should be able to fix it by removing the bottom two ladder blocks - so the ladder starts from the 3rd block off the ground. You'll be able to make the jump and climb, but zombies don't see it as a path!
Essentially there's no path. If you put the ladder back up starting on the 3rd block from the ground, the zombies can't make the jump so they don't see it as a path. Similarly for the digging - there's nothing in the zombie AI that will have them specifically dig a path to get to you. Sometimes they will dig to get through somewhere where they do see a path, but not for the structure created here.
Good question, but thankfully no - loot bags don't take damage from your explosions. The only thing is to watch out for them despawning, the default timer is 20mins from memory. Mods exist if your on PC and want to make it longer.
I love finding new mechanics to exploit. Now this is too much cheese for me but do very much enjoy this build and how it was built. It's very similar to a base I had just before v1 altho I had it set so they would path infinitely in a vertical loop, this but they had a way up, and my base was a massive tower coming outta if a massive hole. Very good base.
Thanks mate - appreciate the response especially since it's too cheesy for you (which I get!). I wanted to avoid the loop mechanic as I've done that a lot, it brings the cops back into range, and also means explosives are less effective since the zombies are more spread out. Loop bases are still important though, just not what I wanted here :)
Hmm, I don't think so no. My best guess would be if you've extended your ladder down too far, and zombies can see it as a path up? It needs to stop 2 blocks from the ground so you can jump to reach it, but they can't. (Apologies if you already know this!) Just gave it a quick test to confirm - no changes to pathing for this that I can see.
If I used 30 TNTs, I wouldn't have to worry about my base falling, I'd have to worry about my PC crashing, blowing a fuse, and possibly the power on my whole neighborhood. 😂
I'm confused? Why does the Double Double End turn invisible after being placed? I've always loved underground bases. Having my work stations set up on a ring level part way down. At the time I had a smaller pit with electric fences to deal with odd ball screamers who wandered in.

Hi and thanks for the report - hopefully the different forcefield block will help, but let me know if not!
Curious if you might have any suggestions regarding some of the issues we ran into though.
Pro tip ... dig down from the corners and the middle on the sides, then dig around the perimeter, then up and down, dig out the middle and let the entire center collapse.
Always excited for a base video!! Great design, thanks
Thanks DragonPanic!
Awesome work Pancake 👍it's always fun to see what you come up with 😀
Thanks MrMac!
Great video
Thanks y2g - your exploits vid looked great too!
@@gregariousjb oh no, dang they might have patched it
I'm so excited to try this in game now! Thank you for the amazing video!!! 😁🙌
You're most welcome - hope you enjoy playing!
Great to see you getting more subs and recognition (saw you on GNSs' weekend thing). The first time I came across your stuff was when you made a swimming pool POI, and you've been steadily upping your game since then.
Thanks Rob! Swimming pool poi is certainly way back (and one of those that not many people watched :D)!

Thanks! If you've got the time to do the build, it's very effective! Just not something you can knock up on the same day as horde night 🤣
@@CautiousPancake 👍
Thanks for implementing and testing these things. Your videos always give me inspiration for things to try.
Thanks weldabar!
This is it. So thanks.
You're welcome - the old style bedrock bases are much harder now that zombies dig so much!
Can I just say, you're editing and cinematic shots are on point! I've loved seeing your videos evolve over time, Cautious Pancake, and your voice is a perfect counterpoint to the videos. As always, top tier product, and I'm looking forward to the next awesomeness to come our way!
Thank you so much! Slowly but surely I think they are getting better :)
After scrolling through comments, it would appear a few people have run into the same problem I just did where zombies went straight for my access door and broke their way back up. Looking forward to the next horde night after I took out those bottom few ladders so they dont see the path back up anymore lol.
Thanks for the feedback and yeah, not the only one to hit that issue! Hindsight says I should have mentioned that part :)
Really want to see the version with a crafting base attached. Love this build!
Thanks, will see if I can figure out how to make it an interesting vid!
With the current changes to screamers im finding im getting a ton of screamers coming to my base. Bases with screamer defenses might be a good video. Thank you pancake.
Great idea 💡 I'll look into it thanks purpledude 👍
I haven't had a single screamer yet and I'm up to day 57.
Don't use any torches for lighting or candles - only use two things at once - like only use a single campfire with a single forge. Don't mine any of the metallic ores nearby those will attract screamers. Keep crouched when you're inside - just opening and closing storage crates can attract them.
Click F1
Type dm
click F8 two times.
It'll show you the heat of the chunk you're in. When it gets to 100%, you'll get screamers.
Please get on it Cautious Pancake it would help so much
I don't know if this will work with the current build of the game, but I had a strategy that I used to use.
(If it still works in the current build.)
Depending on my mood, I could either snipe screamers from my base or run over there and jump on the mini-base for some extra xp.
Well done mate keep up the good work!
Thanks Peachy!
i thank you. I used you AFK base in Alpha 21 and it lasted to day 56. cop explosions damaged it but I found a slight hack in that I was able to use pipe bombs to kill both cops and demos. it was a good experience all round
Awesome thanks! If you don't mind me asking - which AFK base was that - infinite stairs, lemming tower, or one of the others?
@@CautiousPancake it uses triangles with blocks as the base. you named it your 100% AFK base but you did 4 sides. I only used 1side, 5 blocks high. the zombies would congregate at the base block with the triangles. from my height I just throw Molotov or/and pipe bombs. I first used it in the Dishawn tower challenge mod in alpha 21. It was damaged due to the cop exploding, especially the radiated ones and Demos. It is one of my favorite ones!
@@martinlayne6778 ah nice! Someone dubbed that one the "Cheese Grater" which I quite liked, due to all the triangles 🤣
With the double double block being used you can have some really creative bases by the looks of things. Great Horde Base.
It helps for sure, as long as you can use a full block at each end to hide it!
@@CautiousPancake So if made the 15 x 15 block pit fully surrounded in concrete blocks for example, with the peggle 1/4 bars and double double blocks would they attack the blocks or as the video shows, we would see the same actions from the zeds?
@@robbailie5878 same actions from the zeds - if the edge of the pit is solid blocks it's just a stronger version of the same thing.
@@CautiousPancake I can imagine just digging down, but as it's damaged putting in concrete blocks to replace the damaged bottom walls. So it gets even stronger as the zoms do too over time…

Good stuff!
I'm accomplishing the same basic thing by using a derelict residential house - Jacob's residence. It had collapsible floors on three floors that all line up. I sit up in the attic hardly doing a thing. My idea was to avoid horde nights so I kept my game stage down. I didn't see any demolishers until day 56. lol
Because the last time I didn't and I got massive amount of cops on day 14. My base wasn't ready for cop spit.
It used to be you could use doors for pillars and keep them open - they couldn't hit the door frames - was like having invisible pillars.
Haha nice, using the trap floors to your advantage!
Yeah I remember seeing those door vids for creating crazy bases way back!
So if I have the ability to use steel blocks for the entire construction, is that a good idea or a bad idea
Fantastic video, and extremely innovative design.
Thank you very much!
Good vid, excited to see more 1.0 content!

Hi.. love your vids.
Yeah for sure I get that this is a bit passive - I try and mix up different styles of bases so there's something for everyone :)
Well done. Thank you!
Haha yeah - I gotta remember that pulling up the frame that I'm standing on is not advisable :D
Before I have another gravity related accident - can you increase the size of this to have a large base building area in the center?
Great base design CP!

Yeah - those are fun too - I've never really built one, must give that a try sometime!
Zombies climbing on each other is wild. Lost my base, even with high walls

I tried this near the end of my attempt to use cactii to kill zombies if you want to see how well it didn't work :D ua-cam.com/video/meaLktYh4Hc/v-deo.html
as for preventing them from raging as they climb out of the pit - can you dig them a staircase or similar that's far enough away from you that they are never closer than 12 blocks to you - if so they shouldn't ever go into rage mode (as long as they think they have a viable path to you).
Nice!
I love it! very creative
Thank you! 😊
It’s awesome love your design how long did the dig take? Might do the same thing myself.
Sounds like a good adjustment on the entrance! And that wooden double rail will taunt you invisibly forever 🤣🤣
@@CautiousPancakewould upgrading the double doubles not make the base sturdier?
@@TheInsainJester I've had reports that going to steel caused issues, but it was mostly in situations where partial steel was used, and it seems that the extra weight was causing issues. My view is that it's not worth wasting steel on since there's so little damage, but that's just me!
Nice build.do you ever utilized drawbridges?
Sometimes for sure - but not always in the manner they are intended for :D : ua-cam.com/video/oT5evh6CYCU/v-deo.html (note that this might have been fixed, I've not re-tested)

Awesome, have fun!
Tip for stability in case of wall damage: any spot where there is host ore sand, replace that, it has one of the lowest stability and attachment scores of any block in the game, as well as a super low health. (I mean, you probably want the ore eventually too, but, the sand is more important as far as wall health goes.)
Good tip for sure!
@@CautiousPancake i had a bunch of super early day bases keep crumbling on me, then noticed that some places had better stability than others, plus by then i was mining a good bit, and finally put two and two together and realized that the sand was the problem all along lol.
nice base man 😜
Thanks!
Great vid, thnx! But do i just random place poles on the side of the wall?
Yeah, I tried to create a "path" with them with each pole 8 blocks down and one block over. I don't think it mattered though. As long as the first pole is (I think) between you at the bottom of the base and the lip ot the pit they should want to drop to get closer.
If you're not sure try a few options in case there's issues.
What would be cool is doing this from the highest mountain in the world space, then you could have a pretty massive interior on the top half.
That's a great idea - my one concern would be that zombies can do weird pathing around mountains - sometimes digging in the side and underneath, rather than running up to the top!
В первые вижу, ты великолепный архитектор!
Thanks 👍
And now i have to figure out how to create this as a day one base, maybe starting small (5×5 hole) and making it bigger over the next days/weeks
That would be a fun project! maybe start with a tower sticking up above ground, with a usual ramp up and push-dropper, then slowly dig down, building in supports as you go?
Risk of collapse obviously, but that could be scary/fun too!
@@CautiousPancake actually not a bad idea
Sounds like you're pretty close though!
thanks, i think i´ll try this
Awesome, have fun!
I build this base in a survival world, and it worked great, too a while to build though.
Thanks mate! Yeah, it takes some building, but works a treat once it's done!
How do you make invis blocks?
12:00 do zombies dig through those? For example if i made a roof out of those would they stop zombies from busting in?
They won't make everything underneath it invisible no, and if you're standing on a normal floor under a forcefield roof, they will still try and get to you via a different path. Also, forcefield blocks only "hide" from the zombie pathing if there's a 3 block gap underneath them, and an alternate path to get to you, if you don't do that the pathing will go weird.
Wait, you can cheat dig out to bedrock? How does one do that? Also Can we by chance get a download for this base? I love it.
And I wasn't sure on the 4 high zombies - but checking the previous invisible block video, they were 4 high then back in A21 too - check out here, which starts at the right spot: ua-cam.com/video/64edNelNS1U/v-deo.htmlsi=dExaUinABd66RDv5&t=347
@@Oktokolo Yeah - I'd love it to see in a mod, as it would interesting to see how much it changed the gameplay!
@@Oktokolo Agreed - that would be cool!
Good choices.
Thanks!
I,m new ish but how did you suspend your base in air please, great horde base, hang I see build video at end lol
hehe - yeah the build guide should cover it hopefully - let me know if it doesn't make sense!
The bazooka looks like fun.
It is for sure, just don't accidentally hit yourself with it 😁
"The design is very human."
But in all seriousness, love this design, may have to give it a go in creative mode before using real materials.
Love you bases
Thanks 😊
Have you got a video where you can turn this into Horde/Crafting base?
No sorry, that got trumped by other vids, and haven't yet got back to it to put the crafting on top!
At this rate the Funpimps are just going to make the zombies build up minecraft style.
Zombies using each other as ladders would make horde night very interesting for sure :D
slow mo, bodies flying, music gods damn I laughed! subbed
Thanks so much, and welcome!
Quick question ?
i made, as far as i know the same plan that you explain... but all the zombie tend to go anyway for the door and try to come back by bursting to the wall or for the most intelligent… climb right up to fall down again...
for the early blood moon its not a problem but for the further one, i dont think i'll be able to maintain the stability.
i play in multiplayer, and i think that when my friend joined up my game, thats where the problem started... could it be that ?
sorry btw for my poor english 😅 im mostly french haha
If the zombies are going for the door and climbing the ladder, you should be able to fix it by removing the bottom two ladder blocks - so the ladder starts from the 3rd block off the ground. You'll be able to make the jump and climb, but zombies don't see it as a path!
What causes the mobs to just stick in center and not tear the door down to reach the top? Or prevent them from digging to reach the surface?
Essentially there's no path. If you put the ladder back up starting on the 3rd block from the ground, the zombies can't make the jump so they don't see it as a path. Similarly for the digging - there's nothing in the zombie AI that will have them specifically dig a path to get to you. Sometimes they will dig to get through somewhere where they do see a path, but not for the structure created here.
Does this now destroy the loot bags tho ?
Good question, but thankfully no - loot bags don't take damage from your explosions. The only thing is to watch out for them despawning, the default timer is 20mins from memory. Mods exist if your on PC and want to make it longer.
loved it
Thanks!
I ran in a struggle the zombies dont jump down is there any tip?
I did the small piles 8-10blocks down
Hmm, are you below then where you are standing above the grenade chute? What's the elevation at ground level (from the map)
Boom Time 😂🙌💗
I'm glad someone liked it 🤣🤣
For some reason zombies always go for those doors that are down there. Have they changed the zombie AI in the 1.0 release?
Hmm, I don't think so no. My best guess would be if you've extended your ladder down too far, and zombies can see it as a path up? It needs to stop 2 blocks from the ground so you can jump to reach it, but they can't. (Apologies if you already know this!)
Just gave it a quick test to confirm - no changes to pathing for this that I can see.
@@CautiousPancake oh that was exactly it. Thanks for helping out.
@@ferdam666 No worries!
the zombs are digging into the sides for me
They don't want to drop in?
@CautiousPancake yea they just break the walls in the pit
@@sjalsburen they shouldn't 🤔if you want me to take a look can you please drop me a screenshot or export it as a prefab?
If I used 30 TNTs, I wouldn't have to worry about my base falling, I'd have to worry about my PC crashing, blowing a fuse, and possibly the power on my whole neighborhood. 😂
Frame rate has left the chat :D
I'm confused? Why does the Double Double End turn invisible after being placed?
I've always loved underground bases. Having my work stations set up on a ring level part way down. At the time I had a smaller pit with electric fences to deal with odd ball screamers who wandered in.
It's just a behaviour they've built into the block - likely so it can be used on steps of varying width. And I agree - underground bases can be great!

If you dug the pit
Next to a Trader Compound,
Won't it stay stable?
That's a cool idea! It would only keep one side of the trench stable though, but it would make that side indestructible - very nice!
