Its not so good it works, it removes the fun to see if you can survive horde night and kind of removes immersion and apprehension too. Might as well turn horde night off if you build this base. I would hope that the devs could find a way to make 50 percent of horde night zombies stupid zombies that just break any blocks on the way to the player. That would make horde night unpredictable and more intense.

Something to consider for this base. There is a block a lot of people are using to make floating bases. Even though it's very tiny, it has full HP, so a tiny bit of a block can have 5000 or 10k HP, yet be nearly impossible for zombies to lock on to to hit. You could use that for the pillars on the side of the corridor you're standing on, so the zombies literally have nothing to hit to cause a collapse. Combined with the endless cycle of them wanting to run the corridor, you'd be completely safe there.

  • @GunChronicles

You could also make your platform pillar wider and have a trapdoor and ladder to enter the hollow middle to repair it. Also, covering it for the damn birds, though I think you mentioned that one

  • @stevedixon921
    @stevedixon921 3 роки тому +11

Awesome! A most effective unpowered base, as long as you have sufficient ranged weaponry. If you are really short on materials you can shorten the length of the corridor a bit, but as Josh noted, since they don't attack the structure much you could use wood for much of it. You could add electric posts in the corridor to make it a head shot shooting gallery later.
A TFP counter to this would be to make bunker buster zeds that attack your horizontal position and ignore your vertical position. Imagine having to counter waves of busters going for your foundation during the horde.
I do wish there was an iron material though before steel (frame, wood, cobble, cement, *iron*, steel). The lack of an iron block before steel irks me a bit since you can forge iron long before steel.

I've said for a long time that I think the best version of zombie AI would have a mix of dumb/smart. Make regular zombies have dumb AI, but then specialist zombies (like construction worker/wights/etc) have smart AI. No cheese can perfectly/easily handle both, but it would make early game more intense

I made the a19 killing corridor in a20 and in horde day 35 they tunneled under the platform and collapsed the whole build. Whole base was concrete and there was some steel in hot areas. It was nuts so we desperately need this for our multiplayer server. Maybe a future multiplayer horde base that can accommodate everyone

i found a new way to wire up the garage doors for the ZOMBIE-PROOF UNDERGROUND BASE ENTRY. you built the garage door system like you did but instead on battery banks use one generator wired to the motion sensor first, then wire the motion sensor to the lights to suck up all the power. then wire the generator to the doors individually (not in series only one door will close).
the doors will always be powered up and the lights off when the motion senors see you they turn the light on taking all the power and the doors will open up the passageway.
or you do the same with the door but in a wall always powered open tell the motion sensor sees a zombie turning lights on and the doors losing power closing in front off them.

You didn't mention that the pit with stairs bringing the zambonis back up protects the pillars from rage mode completely since you choose where they come back up. Also, instead of putting a second layer of bars you could have just put poles across the top. Looks empty to you, but is full to them. Then, later, you can fill the middle in with powered hatches to bring them in for melee fun but if it gets too much, hit the switch and it turns back into the killing corridor.

Good to see things working as intended, but also some of the issues that bases face in general. Like, if it's too short, the dogpile from their fall will allow them to reach you (solved by digging a pit with stairs out of it for them to fall into). Also needing a long enough drop section to prevent them from leaping at the bars, and narrow passages needing to be avoided because they jam up and start beating on stuff. All the highlights of survival on horde night. Nice one Josh!

I tried a few zombies vs dozens and if one started to smack the blocks it would stay doing it. I even added thin plates to the pillars to try and make the ai think it would take too long to break this whole pillar and instead go up the stairs but that didn't work either. Also weird note I built it out of concrete at first but when I put the bars up the whole thing fell down.

I dont mind exploiting zombie ai for the most part, but bases where they literally cant do anything to me no matter what? Just feels a step too far. Might as well just disable horde nights at that point. But I do have to admit I find the idea of making this my home base hilarious. Setup my full base of storage and crafting tables and such and just not worry about heat production because I could call in 6 screamers and just ignore them entirely or pick them off when the noise starts to bug me. No more keeping my ear open listening to the nighttime noises and wondering if a roamer has shown up. Because it doesnt matter if they do.

I feel like there should be a mix of zombie AI. Zombies that try to get to you directly like in A-17 while also going through the easiest blocks first. So there would be a bunch of zombies beating on the base you are standing on with the corridor. They wouldn't take the path. They would just get as close to you as possible and start beating crap down. While also having zombies the path of least resistance like pathing down the corridor.
But as Josh says. Play how you want. There are already people complaining that the drone is game breaking... Just don't use it.

However the beauty of this game is that everyone can play their own way! :) IF someone wants to paint themselves with rotting meat and run naked through the horde night for a "cHaLLeNgImNg GaMe!" then more power to them and their very short permadeath runs ;P

@@chrishubbard64 I had the new Dishong Tower as a tier 5 POI. I had to spend the night there as I almost got to the top but just didn't have enough time. I got to the top and my game locked up when all the zombies spawned. I loaded back in and got a few steps and locked up. Back in thing seemed cool but now my focus was off. All the zombies destroyed me. I should have learned my lesson. I had no stakes anymore. Once the game locks and you log back in, the mission resets. So now I had to try and get my stuff back from the top of Dishong when the game keeps locking up (it's the only place I've had any issues with A20).
I placed a bed down half way up the tower on the outside as I was nerd poling up because I knew what was in store for me. I died three times trying to get my stuff back and had five more lock ups. I was finally able to get my stuff back and kill enough zombies that the game stopped locking up. It was a freaking nightmare. How many rageing feral zombies and nuclear cops do you have to throw at someone? It's tier 5 yeah, but it's only day 23. And the loot wasn't even worth all the damn trouble.

Hello dear sir, I've tried this horde base/corridor of yours and i want to let you know it worked absolutely perfectly for 80% of the hordenight, then the stairs (basic concrete with 5000hp, alpha 19) broke and the baddies started destroying everything, killed the remaining enemies on foot, which turned out well. Any tips on improving the stairs to get a better flow, so they don't get damaged as much? I'm thinking of pyramid all the way to the corridor instead of just the lower two steps.

I've been playing with this, and it can't be done with wood. Anything less than cobblestone and it just falls apart once you start to put the cupboard blocks onto the wall.

Thanks for this as I was looking for a simple horde base for A20. Unfortunately when built from wood or cobble the 6 gap is too much and structure falls down. Even a 5 gap was too far when only using wood...

I love that Bars are now just a standard block. The old iron bars were so much weaker. Even at cobble, the new ones 1,500 HP. Fully upgraded to steel, they're 10k HP.
FYI: Spiders can now jump through 1 block gaps. Bit of a hassle in my melee heavy base.. solved easily with an electric fence. ⚡😁

Spiders also seem to be able to jump through a 1 block gap with a plate at the top (so I guess a .9 gap). I had to replace the plates with a half block to keep them out. Nothing is making it through a 1/2 block gap so far LOL

The first time I built this I think I made the second gap too big, it caused my entire structure to collapse when I put the roof on. Be careful when you build it and if you are starting out like I was, just use cobblestone for the columns, the rest of it can be wooden without an issue (so far)

Hey Jawoodle! Having some very different results with your killing corridor :(
At first I thought it was just me building like a muppet and doing my own thing. But I tore everything down and built it block by block to an exact replica of yours. I have a Gamestage of about 340-350; as soon as the horde night begins they path like intended, but after they fall a lot of them begin berserking. Shortly after about 50% of them just pile around my support blocks and attack them until they break. No interest in pathing back up to me.
If it matters, I built it on level ground inside of a town, forest biome. Everything within 15 blocks has been cleared away so I have a nice, clean area to build.

So I tried this, but I ran by a problem. I made my pillars out of steel and the pathing of the zombies seemed to be a bit messed up because the zombies would go after pillars instead of up through the path. So it seems that this base needs to be built out of concrete and no further.

So Joshy boy, the concept seems to be efed up in 20b238. I made a very similar corridor in princiapal but the zombies stop near the edge and start bashing my fff walls, after they wall they mostly go into f everything up mode no idea what's up or why or generally WTF but it's annoys the crap out of. In the vid everything magically works but not for me in the game.
Ill keep working on it tho. Im sure it can be fixed.

  • @michaelknightmustdie
    @michaelknightmustdie 3 роки тому +2

This is the pinnacle of horde base design, but the basics are there: make the pathing predictable (get off the ground, but having a simple, small structure with a single opening also works for early hordes) and put something strong between you and the zombies (but not too strong). I do like that the new "crawl through a single block" mechanic makes us rethink and tweak base design, but if you keep things simple and follow the key principles you'll be just fine.
Looking forward to more JaWoodle park!!! I'd love to see your version of the bare minimum horde base.

  • @alystine6781

I just now started playing Alpha 20 and tried this corridor. Even with the very first horde I did have some "problems". Sure, they do the loopy run around thing but every time a bunch of Zs fall down, 1 or 2 start attacking either the central pillar or the one where my "base" is on.
Day 7 horde is of course rather silly but if even that one managed to break blocks I am not so sure how to handle this (aside of fighting back). In that horde night I actually had to leave this base before it came crushing down since central pillar was on 1 block only at the end with the 2nd one damaged. Of course it was only cobble and next one will be concrete but there were constantly some Zs hitting exactly those critical blocks.

Another working method for a team. 3x3 vertical tube. 3 ladders up on opposing sides. Have a electrical wire covering each ladder set. Have a sledge turret at the top. Have a melee character at the top of each ladder playing whack-a-mole. Ranged characters shooting down.
    Works flawlessly.
They go up, get shocked and bonked back down. Go back up again.
Ours is 10blocks tall. Just tested it on day 30 (our horde days are every 10days cause math is hard.) Had 8 players in the horde base. 1 death due to a demo boy boom, but the base was unphased.

Can you try to make it a balancing act by making a walkway that doesn't have walls, but has really thin floors that curves and turns, because when they rush you and is bumping into each other, they will slide off. Especially cool if it zig zags.
Also wonder if electric trap doors with floors can be utilized to trick zombies to walk over and then collapse and reset.

I honestly use for the first hordes that broken concrete buildings they can hold easy 4-5 hordes out before you need to replace some blocks or repair some critical damage, but thats with me killing some of them and gets you a good level ups at the start. I wish hill bunkers (own build) would be more effective against hordes, instead such contraptions.

Thank you so much for getting to the nitty gritty in JWP again. I like the fact as well that you are helping new players to the game understand the what, how and why of this corridor horde base too. This is not any kind of negative feedback, but I noticed in your video that you are just busting out the build maybe a bit too fast for people to catch which blocks you are using. Could you maybe post a text link on your vid with a list of block shapes that you used or something like that? As you pointed out, the new block menu is freakin huge. lol Anyway, excellent work my man, you are a rockstar for 7 Days to Die content. Cheers!
