I know a few people have been confused by the "skip the first 2 chains and double crochet into the 3rd chain" at the beginning of this pattern. That's just for the very first row, and you do that so that the first stitch is the correct height to match up with the double crochet stitches. If you didn't skip the first 2 chains, the first stitch would end up all squished. After that, you chain 2 at the beginning of each row to start. Normally I would do a chain 3, but because of the size of this yarn and everything, a chain 2 seemed sufficient so I just went with that. I'm sorry for not explaining that further in the video! If you're still having trouble, check out the blog post where I walk you through the pattern step by step with photos, and feel free to comment if you're still stuck. www.marchingnorth.com/free-super-bulky-crochet-throw-blanket-pattern/ Thank you! 😊😊

Hello! I’m doing a project for my english class and I was wondering if you could answer these questions or give me any advice for crocheting. In the beginning of your crocheting journey was it hard for you to figure out how to make the different knots/patterns? How long did it take you to master? What made you want to continue crocheting? Was it ever frustrating at certain points? Have you ever experience artist block? And that’s all. Thank you!
Great video thank you! I sorta got lost at the beginning of second row. You specified 3 loops over but didn’t specify if that was just for the beginning of the row or every time? So got lost there. But I hope I figure it out.
That is just for the beginning row. When you get to the end of each succeeding row, you will chain 2 and turn your work. Then double crochet in first stitch (the stitch the chain 2 came out of). Continue doing double crochets to the end of the row, chain 2 turn your work and repeat.
Whats the difference between hand knitting and crochet for the blanket? If the crochet is more dense than hand knit would it feel more like a mat? Or not as soft?
Knitting actually takes a little bit less yarn and you get a less holey look, but the texture is different. Both are good though, just different! I just made a video where I finger knit a blanket with this same yarn so you can kind of see the difference: ua-cam.com/video/kLJheU8eNCU/v-deo.html
After making 2 chains at the beginning of each row you need to make sure you are crocheting in the same stitch the chains are coming out of. If you go to the next one it will look how you said yours came out.

You definitely can, but if you’re using smaller yarn you’ll want to use a smaller hook and you’ll increase the amount of stitches in each row and amount of rows. The yarn label will show what size hook is recommended. I hope that helps!
this tutorial is so helpful! but if i want to make a baby blanket does the chain count have to be divisible by 3 or could i chain however many i want? thank you!
The chain can be whatever size you want, you just want to add 2 extra chains for the turning chain. It's just a basic stitch pattern so there isn't a multiple to worry about 😊 good luck!
We are watching your video for my elective I teach, and we are so confused by a couple of things. The biggest thing is are huge gaps in the stitches and it gets very short and starts to curl if we only do every 3rd stitch. Can you help troubleshoot this?
I'm an amateur so take this for what it's worth. Double crochets are nice but a half double crochet is more compact and just as nice. if ur worried about gaps I find this this helps. For the curling maybe steam blocking the piece will help with that. Like I said I'm an amateur but I find this helps
You don’t skip that many stitches. You do the chain 33, then double crochet in the third chain from hook, to create the first stitch. Then you double crochet once in every chain to the end. So you should have 30 stitches. Then you chain 2, turn your work, and double crochet one in each stitch across, having 30 double crochet. Repeat chain 2, turn, and dc in each stitch. If the holes are still very large then it’s probably tension being too loose. If it’s curling it’s likely too tight of tension. Or you don’t have the right size yarn and hook. It’s practice and time that makes you more skilled. The first projects won’t be perfect. And that’s ok just be patient and work through it. You only skip the first 3 chains on the first chain row, because you need the slack for your stitches.

@@vacuumsuccerson8945 what is 600 I’m looking for something I know I’ve got that big crochet book. It is a big blue one. I was looking upstairs in the office.
How do you avoid the blanket curving as you crochet? Is it cause my first row of just single chains was too tight? I also somehow ended up with almost 10 ft blanket when I originally made the first row 6 ft
Just foi D you and I'm trying to learn how to crochet-I found yours uiet easy. Question-I'm struggling to keep the length according to the 33chain,how do I achieve that
I just finished this! One question I encountered was how long the 33 count chain at the beginning should be? I was wondering if the chain is the width or the length. This is my first crochet project in 20+ years and I have always crocheted too tight. To be on the safe side, I purchased 8 skeins of Bernat Blanket Big yarn. Anyhow, I purchased the pattern from Etsy hoping to find out how long the chain should be and if I was working width wise or length wise. The pattern didn't say, so I still have this question. It didn't seem like the blanket was getting long enough. When I finished with the 8th skein of yarn, the blanket measured 50" x 46". I purchased more yarn and ended using 3 more skeins, so a total of 11! The final size is 50" x 63". I love how easy this pattern is. Seriously, this was so super quick to make! I would still like to know if the chain and rows are supposed to be the width or lenghth. Thank you for sharing this!
Hello! The chain would be the width of the blanket, or at least that’s how I did it. So the chain would end up being approx. 46” long or so. The great thing about this pattern is you can adjust it and make it as big as you want! It sounds like you’re turned out great!! 😊😊
Yes, the 3 stitches you skip is so you start with a chain 3- that way it’s the correct height and matches the double crochet stitches for the rest of the row. After that row, you’ll make a chain 2 at the start of each row- I did a chain 2 instead of a chain 3 at the start of each row just because it seemed to look better- Sorry I didn’t explain that better! Let me know if you have any other questions 😊
hi, you are a really great teacher and this tutorial is super easy and clear to follow!! I am having trouble with my first row being quite messy, I can't tell if its because its too loose or too tight? It seems too tight but then has weird yarn sticking out in places. Should i start over and sort of pull out each stitch as i go along to loosen it?
Thanks very nice blanket. Can you please tell the size of this blanket. I want to make one extra large Do you know how many balls of yarn I have to buy?

This is beautiful. May I ask what size does this pattern make with your 7 skeins of chunky yarn. My sister wants a size dimension so she can buy enough yarn.
How big is the blanket and how much yarn did you approximately need? Like 2 or 3? I want to make this blanket but I need to know how much yarn I'll need and how big it is. The 12 pack is WAY too expensive and I don't need that much yarn

No, you just skip the first 2 chains on the first row. Check out the pinned comment I put up just now that should explain it better- I hope that helps!!
what size does this end up being i would like a large one to cover a queen or king bed? how many skins of yarn should i get?

Love it.. how many skeins did you use please
About what size does this blanket turn out to be?
Can you explain how and you would change colors in this blanket?
I’ve watched this 10 times now and cannot get past the first double crochet. The second set just doesn’t look right. I see everyone else is not having this problem. I’ve been crocheting for over 70 years.
i’ve been having the same problem mine just looks like a ball
@@vacuumsuccerson8945 I’ve tried everything. I learned to crochet in Germany at age 4 in kindergarten. Been doing it all my life. This size yarn has me stymied. I’ve tried several times. I’ve even tried the traditional way. I put it away for a while. I even tried doing it with my fingers. It may be the yarn, I don’t k ow. Tomorrow I’m going to buy some huge knitting needles and just knit it. Wish me luck. 🤞🏻
Are you remembering to chain 2 before you start the second row?
@@shaynacatherine8286 I gave up. I did it with my finger, knit and pearl. Thank you though.
@@vacuumsuccerson8945 what is 600 I’m looking for something I know I’ve got that big crochet book. It is a big blue one. I was looking upstairs in the office.
Thank you so much for this video 🥹
How do you avoid the blanket curving as you crochet? Is it cause my first row of just single chains was too tight? I also somehow ended up with almost 10 ft blanket when I originally made the first row 6 ft
Nice this i my first time doing this thank you so much you helped me so much
Just foi D you and I'm trying to learn how to crochet-I found yours uiet easy. Question-I'm struggling to keep the length according to the 33chain,how do I achieve that
Really like how easy it is to follow along with you. But just wondering what on the measurements for this blanket
I have a question. So on the first row you only go over to the third stitch then every stitch after that? Sorry I’m a beginner.
I want to make one extra large
Do you know how many balls of yarn I have to buy?
The finished size ended up being approximately 43″ wide and 63″ long. I used 7 skeins of yarn to make mine. You can find more info here in the written tutorial www.marchingnorth.com/free-super-bulky-crochet-throw-blanket-pattern/
Love this! Your also hilarious 😆 so fun to watch. Loved being taught and entertaining 👌 👏 ❤
Man I was missing one thing the crochet hook but I will use this once I get one
Can you help me. I’m trying to make a cardigan how do I add the sleeves?
Lol! Ideal if you lost your glasses ehhh! 😂🤣 Love this it's for huggy bears for sure ❄️☃️❄️ 😉🤗❤️ 🥳have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year in 2023 🥳🌟🌟🌟
Thank you. Question: how big a blanket did the 7 skeins make? Your tutorial has been the easiest to follow. I notice that in this as well as other tutorials, the end size of the blanket is not given.
sorry about that! The finished size ended up being approximately 43″ wide and 63″ long. There's more info about it in the blog post www.marchingnorth.com/free-super-bulky-crochet-throw-blanket-pattern/
Love this❤
I’m planting to make this blanket as a wedding gift. However, they want bamboo cotton yarn. Do you have any suggestions as whereI can purchase this type of yarn? I’m having trouble finding this type of yarn.
Do you have a link of where I can buy this yarn. I’ve looked everywhere. I’m based in Australia
How would this be washed? Can you machine wash and dry?
How big did it end up
The finished size ended up being approximately 43″ wide and 63″ long.
This is beautiful. May I ask what size does this pattern make with your 7 skeins of chunky yarn. My sister wants a size dimension so she can buy enough yarn.
Will it be ok to double the chains ?😊
How big is the blanket and how much yarn did you approximately need? Like 2 or 3? I want to make this blanket but I need to know how much yarn I'll need and how big it is. The 12 pack is WAY too expensive and I don't need that much yarn
The amounts are listed down in the description- I used 7 skeins. The finished size ended up being approximately 43″ wide and 63″ long. 😊
@@YarnStash I'm not sure how much 7 skeins is. Did you use like 2 packs of yarn for the blanket? It kinda looked like you did
@@pikasheep these skeins have 32 yards per skein. Hope that helps 😁
Fuse yarn ends together with a lighter, there's a plastic string in the yarn which makes this possible.
