Finger Knitting FAQ
• What You NEED to Know ...
In this video, I share how to finger knit a chenille chunky blanket. No experience with crochet/knitting necessary!
The throw featured in this video is 3 ft x 4 ft
5 skeins Bernat Blanket Yarn (32 yards in each skein)
Starting chain approx. 20-25 chains depending on tension
For a 4 ft x 5 ft , I'd recommend 6 skeins.
Starting chain approx. 30 -35 chains depending on tension
I would highly recommend that you use a tape measure and chain to desired measurement.

Ok for all the dudes out there who are trifling over another dude knitting and crocheting blankets, here's a little history for you. Knitting and crocheting were actually started by men who were fisherman. They had to repair their nets. This continued through the generation and women picked up on it to make clothing and blankets for their families. The fisherman worked also in the winter months. So they had to have warm things. Some didn't have wives and women to do these things for. So they branched out their skills to provide for themselves. Knitting and crocheting are being taught to soldiers suffering from PTSD, male and female alike. It calms the thoughts, focuses the attention on something real and tangible instead of memories and flashbacks. Its taught to prisoners (men and women) to help give them some creative outlet. It works. There is a combat veteran who has his own UA-cam channel for crocheting. He suffers from PTSD and he wanted to share his skill with other veterans to help them. Until you suffer from this stuff, you don't know what its like. Its agony. I suffer from it, too. And about the young man who said we need to try it, he's showing passion for something he learned. He wants to share his passion for it. Thats a good thing! You need to do this.😉😁
Good info thank you and who cares what sex you are just enjoy yourself .
Literally made my first blanket it took around 3 hours to make cause I kept making mistakes but literally worth it, this is the most warmest blanket I've ever had. I added a button to it so that it could wrap around me and I won't need to hold it. Thank you for teaching me this. 🙌❤
What a great idea with the button! Love it! 😀🧶💕

@Arpita Das Michael's carries it and most likely Joann does too.
@@nana820able Dollar Tree even has some that is not as thick. Probably would work ok,just have to get more skeins & make a few adjustments size of loops wise!?
In a mad moment, I decided to order the wool for this to make it for my friend's birthday... The wool arrived two days before the birthday, and I was working both days (I have no prior knitting experience!)... The race was on!
Two 2 1/2 hour sessions later, following your video with care, and it was finished in time!
This is the best guide to non-needle knitting I've found - I'm now going to try scarves... 😎
Thanks Roz! X
Brilliant!!!😀👏🏻💕 thank you for letting me know!!!
What store did you purchase this yarn? I've gone to Target, Michael's and Jo-Ann's. Target never carried yarn , Michael's discontinued this yarn 6 months ago and Jo-Ann's stopped years ago. I am at a lose. I don't want to purchase sight unseen from Amazon and have to send it back. Any other ideas?
@@ritaholston6793 I’m really surprised that you’re having difficulty finding this yarn. I bought more just last week at Michaels to make another blanket for UA-cam. I also easily found it online (Michaels) .
Maybe it’s going by a different name ?
I’m also seeing a similar yarn at Walmart lately. The only thing ,though, is it looks like they are not providing much yarn in the ball so it might come out more pricey.
There is a company called BeCozi that makes this polyester yarn . That might be an option. They do tutorials here on UA-cam .
Please check the link in the description box below my video here see if you still have issues ordering from Michaels. Bernat Blanket Big.
Sorry you are having difficulty, that stinks 💕

I am 74 years old and we learned how to crochet, knit, sew and embroider in elementary school in Germany, something that was mandatory and not elective back in those days. Don’t know if they still require that, I doubt it, but it has served me well over the years. I am for sure going to make this blanket, it is so easy! Thanks for sharing! 😊👍❤️
Oh, how I wish they still did, yes 😀💕 thank you for writing and I hope you enjoy making the blanket ❤️

I took home economics in middle school
(USA grades 7-9)
Had to take sewing half the school year and the other half cooking / baking.
Back then, boys and girls had to enroll.
Not sure if they still offer it but it's something they should require in schools today, with a course on how to make this blanket.
It's beautiful.
🥰
@@Lisa-hc3uq Hi Lisa, Same with me with the cooking and sewing schedule in 7-9 grades. They should still be teaching this. AND how to make this blanket.❤
Ty for sharing! I will give this a try

I AM SO HAPPY😭
Had watched this several times and had taken a break from making blankets. Since Christmas is really soon, I decided to make my younger cousins small blankets. I’m 13 and turn 14 on Christmas Eve. Thank you so much for the video!!
Awesome! Have a great birthday and Merry Christmas! 🎄🎁 🧶
Merry Christmas and Happy birthday too. And you are so great to make things this wonderful for gifts. You are one good teenager
Happy birthday!
I went to my aunts house for the weekend and someone had made a hand-knitted blanket for my little cousin. The woman who made it had dementia and was battling cancer, but the thing that she liked to do to keep her mind going, was to crochet and knit. Her story inspired me to make a blanket, and that led me here to this amazing video. Now I’m half-way through making my blanket and it is lovely thanks to you! ☺️ 🙏
What a beautiful story, thank you for sharing 🧶❤️
Being a guy I find this method super easy. Just started one today and it is my first time EVER doing anything with yarn and I am really enjoying this method. Making a blanket for my Mom for Christmas. Thinking now I may need to make more for friends and family. TY so much for this amazing video.

@@yvrman1964 I think he just meant that guys don't usually make blankets. Well, I am an old lady, and only made one blanket in my life. I taught myself and crocheted a blanket that took many months, because I had to keep counting. This looks easier and I believe I will be buying yarn this week.
I have never in my life done knitting, but after watching your video,I am trying to make my cosy blanked soon! It's the proof of how great teacher you are. Your instructions are clear and inspire the spectators!👏🧿💛

Hii
I'm scared of watching these types of videos. It's only a matter of time before I probably get hooked and develop a passion for something totally random I never expected to even enjoy. 😁
Ikr that's how I started wire wrapping lol
Honestly doesn’t sound like a bad thing!
Yes, lol! So fun. SOLITARY. ALONE. 🙏🏽
You can't get hooked without a hook, so maybe finger knitting is for you!!!! Hahahaha
Best tutorial so far, to the point, quick, and not a lot of repetition. Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you !
I no longer have a lot of dexterity or sensation in my fingers. There is no way I could hold knitting or crochet needles correctly but this finger method is something I might master. Thank you for a great tutorial!
Thank you and I hope it works well for you 😀🧶💕
I’ve skimmed through probably 2 dozen videos, because my brain just did NOT understand what they were doing, even though they were all for “beginners.” I don’t understand the terminology, why they’re using certain tools, etc. Thankfully, I actually understand this one! 🙌🏼 I’ve never crocheted before, so for doing multiple colors, is it basically the same concept for adding another skein? Just tie on, trim & go? Thanks! This video is super helpful. 💜
I’m so happy you found the video useful! Yes , you can absolutely tie on your next color when you run out of the first but only if you want the color to start right after the previous color, no matter where on the blanket that happens.
But if you want the color change to be more solid (like a definite stripe of color all the way across, you’ll want to make sure to attach your new skein right before you start a new row of loops.
Hope that makes sense. 💕
@Jennifer Defoor well done you. I'm gonna try myself at my earliest opportunity.
Paisley Elliott I completely agree
Wanting to make blankets for Christmas gifts this year. I am NOT “crafty” or gifted with crafts but theses look simple!! Thank you! I will be trying this!
Great!
Hey there! This is by far the best and most efficient video on making these blankets. I am excited to try. I braided hair for over 20 years as an extra income and it was actually satisfying to do. This seems like something that will give me the same satisfaction. Thank you so much for making this video!
Thank you !
I can't tell you how much this means to me!❤😊 I have made a lot of Amish rugs, braided rugs and tied blankets, crocheted baby blankets. But this is such a beautiful and easy way to make the most beautiful blankets! Thank you so much!❤🙏😊

Wonderful! I made these for Christmas last year and they were a huge hit 👏🏻💕
You aren't kidding! I bought 5 skeins for a project from a big box retailer and even with a discount, the total was $56!
I have made several of these blankets and it took me till my third one to sort of get it really looking more professional instead of homemade. I’ve watched several videos, and I wish I had found yours first because it is the best. My biggest problem was always finishing it off and yours is the easiest way. Thank you
So great to read, thank you so much 💕
My first time ever seeing a blanket made with this method.💕👏🏾👍🏽. Must try.
Thank you for sharing
Hope you do, it’s a lot of fun! 😀💕🙌🏻
Thank you for the vid! I've already made 3 of these and they are so comfortable 😌
Fantastic!! 😀👏🏻
How many skeins will it take to make it fit the top of a queen size bed?
@@angievoss4008 what are the dimensions of a queen size bed?
@@angievoss4008 to be honest, i would say at least 10?? maybe a little more or less.

I've found a few different methods on how to finger knit but this one is the easiest and the end product looks the best (in my opinion), and this video was easy to follow. Thanks so much for this video!!!!!!
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you ! 😀❤️
Thank you for this great video. I can’t wait to try my first blanket.

Oh my goodness!!! You just answered ALL my questions in ONE video!!! I'm a novice at best, and haven't done anything in years since I first learned the basics. You are wonderful, thank you!
So happy you found it helpful 😀💕
The best chunky blanket tutorial on UA-cam. I have tried others, none compares to the simplicity of this one. Thank you so much for helping me with 2 requested Christmas blankets for my grandchildren. Mary from Boston
