I too have many totes filled with yarn. I have been crocheting since I was 12. I'm 73 now and retired from nursing, after 50 years. God has placed it on my heart to make blankets, scarves and hats for the homeless and donate them to homeless shelters. As I have 4 projects to complete, I haven't started yet, but I have been making squares. Also I usually have up to 3 or 4 projects, at a time going, which keeps me from getting bored. I have also rolled up my leftover yarn into balls with various colors, which makes the blankets, hats etc unique. I love your videos. Sorry if my comment is long. Happy organizing.
Thank you so much for your comment (I love long comments!) That's awesome, keep doing what you're doing, we definitely need more oft that kind hearted energy in our world. And yeah, I'm the same way, I can't just have one project going at a time... I have to have 10 to keep things interesting. 😂 Thanks so much for stopping by!
I got overrun with yarn 2 years ago. So far I gave away a large box of scrap balls and I made 8 C2C blankets for a local nursing home. I still have 6 completely full packers. My goal is 1 packer. The struggle is real.
Your video made me chuckle, good luck with your plans!! Have you ever thought about selling off some of the yarn that you really don't like or think you will use on marketplace and recoup some of your cost? Maybe donate some random odds and ends to a public school or church for kids crafts?
I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😊 - I'm definitely going to look into all the places I can donate yarn, I'm sure there are a lot of places that could use some of it! 💛🧶
I saw the most gorgeous yarn stash pumpkin made out of all sorts of different colors it was gorgeous . I’ve seen the most gorgeous granny square blankets using up yarn stash. Plus plain ones to. Prettier than regular ones to buy yarn for. Senior centers would love yarn . Nursing home sect. There are great places to donate to. Or call a yarn shop they really know who to donate to.😁❤️
Loved this video and subscribed as result. Earlier this year i did the same thing and instead of selling it i gifted my friends with it. I had some friends who didnt have the money for larger projects and what a blessing it was to know the yarn is being put to good use instead of sitting in a cubbie.
Just started and when you said you’d have to clear out 3x as much as you’d wanna buy it reminded me of when I was a kid we had those little library book cards and after each book you read (not just check out, parents were suppose to keep track) you’d get a stamp on a grid and after like 25 or 50 books stamped you’d get a free book from the library.
When I quilted, I had that same exact square storage shelf that is behind you full of fabrics that I thought I was going to do something with. And I’d start some thing and then something else would catch my eye and I would start that. Yep sounds familiar doesn’t it . But I would take some of that arm. I’ve been doing tapestries lately and I love working with wool. You’ll get it figured out. Good luck.
I relate yarn sister. I’m so envious that you actually have an entire craft closet. For the last several months I’ve only been using yarn I already have to make projects with. Okay, that’s a lie…I did make one trip to Joanns for two skeins. I have made some cute and interesting stuff with my scrap yarn. I’ve also been doing the same thing with my fabric. I hope it went well and your creativity got fired up. 😊
A shawl is fabulous in #1 fingering weight yarn. Great for summer. Lots of patterns. A triple strand scraptastic blanket uses a lot of yarn also.😊 I have a granny square purse... I love it. The next time I make one I'm going to Line it and put a pocket inside. 😊I'm allergic to wool also. Donate hats and scarfs. I made 30 baby hats for a charity one year.
What I would do with that fingerings weight would be to put 2 or 3 strands together to make it more like a 4-weifht, and do maybe scarves and hats with it, or bags, totes, clutches. You can pick 2 skeins of the same color, or 2 coordinating color to give it some ... umph. 🙃
Someone gave me yarn in a different color, but the balls were similar to that which you have at timestamp 4:18 & I tried, making a rectangular cornered to corner wrap, and it didn’t have enough to complete the project, so I frogged it all & and as I frogged it, wound the yarn into balls and snipped it at each type of fabric change & Working at my own stash busing this past couple of weeks and utilized a portion in combination with white blanket yarn with a horizontal striped pattern that I chose the plan for the colour scheme and turned it into a baby blanket!! 🎉#stashbustingWIPs
Fingering weight works really well in most circular knitting machines. If you do the tubes and connect them together, you can make a lovely blanket that isn’t too, too heavy.
I am currently moving in a much smaller appartment and I have an insane amount of yarn. Will crochet baby hats and blankets for newborns to give to the maternity of my town :)
girl share some with the rest of us!!! lolol. seriously though if you need some space you can give me some. i use red heart and those other cheaper yarns for my small buissness. so if you need some more space you know where to go.
Not sure if your still looking for ideas for the number 1/ fingering I find you can make some really fun projects by holding it double or triple or more. I made a pet pillow with Yarn I wanted to use up fast held 6 together. looks very funky and fun
😂😂😂😂 just make an animal a blanket 👍 That's awesome. I also have a bunch of yarn. And I'm trying not to buy yarn too much unless it's a favorite on sale or something. I've been making wearables and it definitely uses a lot of yarn. 🥰 And hats are fun 1 skein wonders that are super quick. Looking forward to seeing what you choose to make. 😎
I love your ideas for the yarn, the crochet definitely eats up more yarn I found out now while I crochet on the Chevron blanket, also I crocheted cotton cloths and they are useful in the kitchen but to be honest after a month they look rough so I had to compost one 😅
You have such a wonderful collection! So many possibilities! Like the first skein you held i think it was colourful chenile yarn - I Had a similar one and knitted a otoman cover, its still good and it protects the ottoman chair from my cats 😅
Give-a-ways! Perfect when you have too much yarn!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I know, I’m going through my yarn, too. I think it’s hard when your business and life are yarn. I do crochet, loom knit, knit and do plastic canvas. I’m a teacher, so finding a place to donate it is easy. I think you are pretty organized, but not really want to part with it when you have so much yarn. I enjoyed the justification for keeping it, but . . . You need to part with a lot of it since it isn’t going to fit on the wall. Also, the dust . . . How the heck are you dealing with that? And pests?
I have a question, does anybody know where the term tote comes from/when the crochet community began using it? I've been crocheting for a long while, but have never heard those tubs be called totes before until yesterday. I thought you guys were talking about tote bags haha.
I have a school in my town that teaches knitting and is always looking for donations. When i buy something and realize i won't use it i give them a call....

I do that too, it's really satisfying

I would add a creative reuse place too

My stash is huge too. I am making a scrap blanket to bust my stash.
You’re living my yarn dreams rights now 💜💜💜🥰😂

Yep, that's pretty much how it goes for me too. I'm determined to use up a bunch of it though. Thanks for stopping by!
When it comes to fingering weight. Two strands held together equals a 3 weight and makes lovely marled designs.

Maybe you could have a yarn sale 🤣🧶

That's a good idea! Nice work- we just gotta get creative 😊
So much fun!!!

This was very helpful and motivating 👏 thanks 😊
I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for stopping by 😊
I buy yarn as if I'm not going to see that color blend again 😂
I know what you mean!
I am currently moving in a much smaller appartment and I have an insane amount of yarn. Will crochet baby hats and blankets for newborns to give to the maternity of my town :)
I’m new to your channel. I love your sense of humor subscribed because of that. 😂
For your knitting machine blanket: are you going to use the tube or the panel setting? I would love to see how you construct it!

Yikes that's a ton of yarn good luck organizing!
I've been wanting to get a cordsmith i-cord maker to make cord with my scrap yarn and crochet them into rugs.
You have such a wonderful collection! So many possibilities! Like the first skein you held i think it was colourful chenile yarn - I Had a similar one and knitted a otoman cover, its still good and it protects the ottoman chair from my cats 😅
I love this video! I need to watch more now xd
