- How I fixed a intermittent ABS and break light problem
This is how I fixed my intermittent ABS and Brake dash lights on my Chevrolet blazer with the Kelsey-Hayes EBCM module, with out spending 1500 bucks on a new EBCM.. You may have code C0265 "Electronic Brake Control Module Motor Relay Circuit." The fault is usually due to broken solder joints on the circuit board. At this time I did not need to pull the EBCM and repair the solder. - Навчання та стиль
Thank you for posting this solution! My 2001Chevyblazer had the same problem. I followed your example by cleaning, wire brushing and sanding both grounds and the ABS and brake light disappeared. Much appreciated!
Great video, right to the point. I had done the other side of the radiator when I put a condenser in but didn't realize there were ground points on the other side, very typical for my skills. There were two there and a good cleanup seams to have cured the brake light problem. THANKS!!
It helped with my 2000 silverado! No more ABS light or Brake light! Thanks !
It’s been on for 2 years and now it’s perfect after cleaning both ground connections.
I recently purchased 2001 GMC jimmy and had this problem of lights randomly coming on intermittently daily . Cleaned the common grounds as you explained and for the last week No Lights! and I'm positive this was my problem.
Thanks a million...lol.
All I did on my silverado was pull the cluster out. Located the 2 small bulbs inside that lit up the break and abs symbols, got some handy piers and broke those damn lights. Will never see those come on again!
thank u so much 4 sharing my abs and brake light just went on and I took it to the shop and they said I need a ABS module
My 03 Trailblazer had the same problem with the exception of the blower motor would not work and the cruise control stopped working all at the same time. You would never believe how I fixed it. I replaced the ignition switch that took about 10 min. to replace. Now the ABS & brake light is off an the cruise control & blower is working. The Chevrolet dealer said they would have to replace some sort of computer that is under the hood, that would cost me several hundred dollars. It cost 45.00 to fix myself.
Wow... You just saved yourself a ton of money! I wish I knew so much about cars! Good work!
Thanks man. That was the exact problem in my blazer. You just saved me a boatload of money.
Ok bitch
Issue happening in my 2001 Blazer. Hope it works. Thanks!
@@jistutz how did it go
@@donvergas4119 oh, man, how I loved that Blazer. I don't recall what ever happened with the ABS light coming on. I only had her for a month or two. I made the mistake of changing the transmission fluid and then 1st gear wasn't catching anymore. Ended up taking an $1800 loss selling it to a hobby mechanic. She was good otherwise.
Thanx Man...i had the same problem on my 2001 yukon.. didn't know what it was until i watched your video
I'm going to try this out,THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
Thanks man you saved me some money and it's really working
I have the same problem with my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes (light was not on at the time...of course).
This is good to know, NCP! I will give it a try and try to remember to report my results.
I have a good feeling this is probably my issue as well, although I have read on other sites that it could have something to do with sensors in the wheel hubs on ABS that get dirty.
We'll see...
Worked for me so far. will do more driving in a bit. pulled both wires that were in that spot and cleaned and so far so good. ran around the block and its still off
I just took the instrument panel out and apart then blackened where the ABS light shines through, the put the MF back in. No more ABS light and passed inspection.
Not so sure about that. Might depend on which state you are in.
Would've been much easier just to clean up the ground wire. Plus when your abs light is on your abs is not working......so you just masked the problem.
Sike😂
02' same problem cleaned the ground fixed the problem thanks!
This is great information I have a 01 Tahoe with this problem I’ll be fixing it tomorrow
So after running around in my car (2004 Impala Ls with 3.8 L) noticed that it got worse simply when hitting bumps or cranking wheels to one side... so figured it had to be a wiring problem. So turned car on and while it was running wiggled all wiring harnesses and the EBCM harness to try to cause ABS and TRAC to go off. After abit of testing, I triggered the warning lights a few times in a row... so found problem! Found error to be the ABS connector to the hub on the drivers side front - pins inside connector were simply corroded and making intermittent contact. Simple as that. Put penetrating oil in and no more errors. So yes - it was a wiring issue... but only in the connector. So for any of you getting this as an intermittent error... and worse when it rains... disconnect the connectors and check if they are corroded... if so, oil them and work the connection on/off a bunch of times to work out the corrosion. This error had me worried cause it caused 3 codes - one for each side AND the EBCM to show. If you get this and go into a crooked mechanic, they could end up replacing the EBCM and both front hub assemblies. In Canada here, the EBCM is $1500 and the hub assemblies (decent AC Delco US units) are $350 a piece... add labour and you're up to $2500 or more. It took me 20 mins to get the tire off, lubricate the sensor connector, and put it all back together. Hope this helps someone out there.
Rick Neubrand thanks for the information
Thank you so much, such a helpful video. I just started having this issue. I recently changed my hubs on my Blazer and the lights came on after almost an hour if driving. A few weeks later it happened again. Couldn't find anything about it, even SUV enthusiast guy I know didn't know the cause. Now that I know what I'm looking for it should be an easy fix and hopefully I caught it early enough that I don't need any replacements.
Great video, Going to try this tomorrow.. ! Thanks
Great video! I had the EXACT same problem w my Sonoma. Thank you!
You ever have low idle/ stalls?
Super helpful video. Thank you.
Thank you sir! I was fixing a wrecked blazer, The ABS light was on and the scan was less than helpful! That wire got lost in the rebuild. I found it tucked into my air box! Got to love back yard mechanics! PROBLEM SOLVED!
This worked GREAT thanks!
I took the entire abs system out of my 96 s10 and switched it back to the 91 style manual trans type had to do alot of work but worth it to me i hate abs get ready to buy new brake line blocks and a bunch of other #!
Good info! My 2001 Z-71 has this same issue, I bet that's what it is.
Great presentation. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I have a 2000 Tahoe and the same thing -- the combo ABS and brake light -- has been happening to me for years, but only under certain conditions. I've had it looked at several times and get a "deer in the headlights" look from the mechanics. I am not equipped to fix cars myself, but maybe I can get a mechanic to watch this and help me out. I'm mostly relieved to know that I'm not the only Tahoe owner who has had this happen!
Thanks for the help I'm going to try that
same thing is happening with mine. Garage just wanted toe replace the EBCM. Going to check on this tomorrow .
A couple things: get a soldering iron and solder a new connector--crimps like the factory uses will lose conductivity over time; use a grinder/dremel/wire brush to clean wherever it is you are bolting to; tighten the hell out of the bolt; spray over it with paint, or better yet zinc galvanizing paint you can get at the local hardware store. Your new connection will last longer than the rest of your vehicle. Also, pull and reinsert every fuse and relay. Those connections will develop intermittent problems too, and just pulling and re-plugging will "wipe" the contacts (a can of contact cleaner will help). I've fixed all kinds of "serious" electrical problems just by making sure electricity can flow from point A to point B.
Ol.vl
How about dielectric grease will that help too?
Yeah I'm with @@josem.2909 Will dielectric grease help?
Good info. Looks like you may be in a northern climate, based on ALL that rust. The 2008 S-10 Blazer, in our City of Orlando Fleet, did not have this issue. Back to the drawing board. Have replaced many ABS control modules, would like to know how you fix them.
JT
Thank you for replying. So after I got the right sized tires on the abs light still goes on right along with the emergency brake light. I am lost for ideas what it could be. If you think of something please let me know!!!!!
I have a 2005 Envoy Denali, as well, and I'm having this issue! along with the rear air suspension going out!
thanks for your video brother it's us against the mechanic shops
thanks bro I'm gonna work on mine today
Nice job. I think my abs control module is going in my truck
I'm having that issue now. I put brand hubs on and still having that problem. Didn't hurt to freshin up though so I'm not mad.The Cheapest way is next lil backwards but I like new parts. 2000 chevy Suburban
Same problem on my S10 and the fix worked as it did on yours.
Thanks for the video. I've been experiencing this same issue with my 01 Silverado. Glad you had this video. Gives me a place to start.
I have the same problem with my Chevy Avalanche z71 abs and brake lights on... Did u know where is the cable located on this truck? I just tired to see this light all time on... Help please
Needed to get inspection sticker one time so I pulled dash out and put black tape behind the lights and it worked
This happens intermittently on our 97 Blazer. I'll have to look for that ground. Is your fix still holding up nice?
Awesome. Thank you, Sir.
I changed out my front Driver side wheel sensor and it fixed the problem $150
Thank you I had same problem
Put a new connector on the wire end as well because the wire crimp could have corrosion between the wire and the crimp. . Seal it up with silicone when done, clean the area where the bolt goes, use a new bolt. seal that area up also.
Thank you , thank you, thank you. That was the problem !!!!
well I clean the ground it was corroded but it did not fix the light. I found a youtube video that shows you how to remove the cover from the EBCM and look for broken solder joints it shows witch joints to re solder and that fixed my problem.
2005 Silverado 1/2T. Had ABS problems and changed both front wheel sensors, as well as ABS module. No more braking problems and no ABS warning light. Changed differential (2wd) and now the ABS light and parking brake light come on, plus Service Brake System warning appears on dash only after driving about 1 KM. Obviously, the brakes had to be bled and the master cylinder reservoir had to be refilled. Any way to stop the lights and message from coming on? Scanner shows no codes.
I have a 2001 chevy lumina and it came without ABS system from the factory is it possible to install an ABS system in it.
thanks
Yay! it worked. It took a few ignition cycles to clear the error, but no ABS and brake light coming on now. They went solid upon the first start up after cleaning the main ground (battery to engine) so I thought it was not fixed. I had to clean the main ground also, just cleaning the EBCM ground did not fix it. I do live near the ocean so I am exposed to salt air, more factors added to the corrosion issue.
Hello where was the main ground located because I’m going to try this on my girlfriends car she has the same ABS light problem we live near the ocean so I’m hoping it fixes it
On the frame near the radiator (I think)
I just did my front brake lines on a 1995 chevy pickup w/ Kelsey Hayes module. After bleeding the engine dies when I come to a stop. I have never had this problem in some 20 years of brake maintenance.
Having the same thing with my 98 zr2. Ill try the ground thing, but if it dosen't work I'm gonna put electric tape over the light, and use my foot and brake pedal to keep the brakes from locking up, like the old days before ABS.
2003 GMC Sonoma, I sanded the paint off the two ground wires on the driver side and that did not fix the ABS and Parking Brake lights. I found two ground wires underneath my battery and sanded the paint off and now my ABS and Parking Brake lights are off now - except when they should be on.
On my 1995 GMC Jimmy SLS 4 X 4 the ABS light has been on despite having replaced the ABS Module. This malfunction line has been on for 5 years. However, today the ABS light went off and the "red brake" light which turns on when there is low brake fluid level or the parking brake is engaged turned on permanently. The brake fluid level is OK however I don't think this relates to the parking brake engaged switch because why would the ABS brake malfunction light would have turned off?
Under and to the front and also Which side is it located? I have a 2007 GMC YUKON XL
I have the same issue. I have an 01 suburban with 339,000 miles. Brake and abs light stays on. Changed my 2 bearing assemblies and they went off for a month or so. But i hear is a grounding wire that is the cause of all these issues
Thanks! This gives me a great first place to start on my 2000 Chevy Blazer ZR2. My brake lights, however, don't come on because I hit a bump. I'll be driving along a smooth road, no bumps at all, and out of nowhere both lights come on--no warning...and at that point they typically stay on. Occasionally, I can stop, turn off the engine, and then turn it back on and they won't come on...for most of the day. Weird and frustrating!
Same with mine.
Okay, I removed my ABS EBCM, took it apart and re-soldered the six affected soldering points. Sealed it back up with RTV, reconnected the three electrical connections, and bolted it back into the Blazer. Problem solved--no ABS or brake lights have reappeared on my dash.
Danny McNeal Ha I Just did that today too.. the video is up loading as i type this. I was on my way for a NC Inspection and the lights came on right out side.. I to tore it down and did it today.
No light...but does it work!
Danny McNeal just out of curiosity whay if u just keep driving like this?
Hey any thoughts on a gas gauge issue. Goes from showing full to empty. On and off. Back and forth. Problem knowing hoq much gad I have
Well i don't know but its a GM so. Im thinking its in the same place or under the drivers side door on the frame.
I have 98 astro van with abs light but i cant get any scanner to communicate with the abs. I can get check engine light codes. Any suggestions?
code i got was "brake lamp switch" from the guy at the auto parts on a 2003 chevy s-10
1995Chevy1500up antilock light comes on at 15 and off at 15mph cruse control stopped working at same time brake lights work???
I've got a 1997 Blazer, ABS comes on & stays on just after an idle surge or hesitation. The sluggish hesitation is intermittent but the abs light won't go away unless it's erased. No ABS codes are coming up on my scanner tool & no Check engine light or codes. I also found that the VCM was replaced, the VIN# the scan tool pulls from the VCM is not the same as the VIN# on the Chassis. any ideas?
My abs and brake light came on also. It was the abs pump and the electronic module. What I did was take off the module and sprayed contact cleaner on it and the pump valves. It works just fine now and the lights don't come on anymore. Chevrolet had only 3 left, (Pump and Module) so I went ahead and purchased one however, be prepared to pay 2200 bucks. After Chevrolet sells the last two they won't make anymore.
hey I know this is a old video my truck is doing the same thing mine is a 2001 zr2 s10 an my fuel gage always stays on full is that a ground to
So I have a leak in mine just changed the lines so hopefully it's easy
Do anyone check if you have a stop light out because I replace a stop light and fix. My problem on 01 Chevy Silverado as soon I replace the light bulb that ABS light gone thanks I hope that helps you and please let me know
Gonna try this. My 01 Sierra brake and abs lights came on after I changed my radiator and it happens randomly
Excellent. 8mm bolt? 10? Easy to get to?
I can only get my abs light in my 1996 Chevrolet Blazer is to slam on breaks a couple of times. It has less than 15k miles. Others say it feels like a stagecoach and it’s the struts. I don’t know what struts are. Any idea why just slamming on breaks a time or two fixes it?
Hey man on the vedio I noticed u have the dragging issue on transmition do u know why it is.
I dont get any codes when mine comes on,in a 96 impala SS,resets all the time but when i drive ahead at least 100 feet it comes on..but goes off when i shut things down..any ideas
Thank you very much.
Do you know if this wire is located in the same place on a 2005 envoy denali?
I’m having same problem! Dang 01 silverados!
If this happens with a 2001 chevy s10 2.2l theres a ground wire that goes from the firewall to the a bolt on the fuse box under the hood you can try that as well
I pulled my module, re-sweated all of the thru-hole solder connections, RTV'd it back together. No more abs light for my 2002 GMC Sonoma.
#warrant2002
You ever have low idle/stalls in the sonoma?
bro, where is the ECM located?
LMAO you sniffed so hard at 0:47 that your engine revved up 300 rpms! That's some serious manifold vacuum!
qfs .35 q
😂 3 years later... still funny.
Lol 😂😂😂
Lmfao!! Dammmmmmmmmm
I'm fucking dead 😭
NCP, once you cleaned and reinstalled the ground, did you clear the code using an OBDII, disconnect battery or neither? Curious as this is happening to my wife's 96 Tahoe and I am going to give this a go this coming weekend.
Thank you for posting this, much appreciated.
+Brian Lewis I removed the neg battery lead. I tend to remove it every time i work on electrical systems.
Has it came back since? I have the same problem on my '01 S10... about 6 months after paying the dealer a LOT of money to replace a bunch of crap.
#NorthCarolinaprepper
I have a 02 sonoma with the same issue I wonder if this will help bc my mechanic said the same thing needed a new ECM
I tried this and unfortunately it did not work. My ABS light is still on! How can I disconnect the ABS system and just use regular braking power?
When your wheel hub needs to be replaced your abs sensor warning light will turn on, change the wheel hub, or you may have a bad abs sensor, my 2000 Chevy Tahoe LT did the same thing. But I had my ground fixed grind the steel around it and installed the ground and painted it with rust protector, my OBD said its the sensor so I changed the abs with the wheel hub.if your burning tons of fuel or clean you throttle body you can damaged the TPS sensor, careful on cleaning that.
I have a 2000 GMC Safari think it is the same issue???
great video. quick question, I have a chevy silverado 2000 v6. the break and abs light are always on as well as the service engine light. I tookbit to advance auto to get a read but it shows nothing. they told me it could be a bad fuse that doesn't let the scanner work. what should I do
Bullbutter clean the bolt and threads too
My light came on today and there was a hum. When I stopped the truck and pulled out the keys, it kept humming. Quickly I unloosed the battery and it stopped. I pulled the 60 amp fuse out and the humming stopped. I will have my brother to look at the problem. It happened all of a sudden when I was pulling out from the bank.
I don't know but i would stat there before i opened up the module to check for bad solder points.
I have a problem with my 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 the brake light on Cluster stays on and the ac blower stops working every time that that happens need help please
Sounds like a bad sending unit. You might have to drop the tank to get to it. I had one go out on a toyoya about 15 years ago. It had a small port in the truck you could open to get to it.
check Abs sensor easy and cheap to replace also could be a sign you have a bad wheel bearing about $60 bucks.
i had a bad driver side wheel baring n the light would turn on mostly when it rained.
replaced the baring and it doesn't do it anymore.
Rogelio Ramos you don't say lol
Bad bearing will trigger abs at low speed due to clearance variance which gives the wrong voltage reading to the computer. The abs sensor is easy to test with a multimeter. Spin abs check for voltage.
Have the same problem with my 2001 Yukon.
I had exactly that problem. and It fixed it.
I have a 99 s10 truck the breaks keeps locking up how can I fix it
I have the same issue. What year is your vehicle in the video? I have a 2000 2.2 5 speed. I'm looking everywhere and I can't find the ground wire. Thanks.
+Josh B I have a 2001 Blazer ls on mine the EBCM is linked to the bottom bolt near the radiator. I have 2 videos on this one is one the wire and one is a easy fix on the module.
i have this problem it seems to happen most on hot days or when it has been running a while
TheMotorhead312 I thought hot weather could play a role! Thanks for sharing!
did you felt the traction coming on sometimes when you stepped on the brakes?
That would be your gap between your abs sensor and the rotor. It makes it hard to stop for a second then let's up.
I have been berry please about the mechanics that creates video s I will do them so when I get to know what I'd learn thanks to all
