Not gonna lie, the bliss of pressing a fresh sensor in and slapping everything back together and knowing that 5MM allen isn't stripped or rounded is truly heavenly.
is the only difference between the left and right of these sensors the bracket? i can get two right of these but no left
My abs light has been on for more than 12 years I gotta try this
Wtf? Don't ignore bruh fix before something wrong that dangerous
Yayyy ! Those teeth you see in the hole are not from a gear. It is called a reluctor. The sensor measures the change of the magnetic field caused when the highs/lows of the reluctor spin across the magnetic field of the sensor. This tells the computer how fast that wheel is or isn't turning.
I SAW ANOTHER VIDEO, HE SAID, THEY JUST NEEDED TO BE CLEANED, BUT YOUR VIDEO, NOW I WAS ABE TO SEE THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OFF, I AM GOING TO CHECK MY FIRST , JUST MIGHT NEED TO BE CLEANED OFF, I AM HOPING. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO, IT REALLY DID HELP ME.👍😎
I love how you are throwing parts cannon at it. You have to when you don't have the tools to scan or see what is needed to make a proper diagnosis. I have to do the same thing. I have worked on cars for years and do not have the expensive equipment to tell exactly what's wrong. Like you I research make checks and do the best I can. Normally I am right. Keep up the good work.
I love it when a plan comes together. I never get that lucky. With me it's always the most impossible part to get too or the the most ridiculously expensive.
It’s great when the repair goes smoothly and costs a lot less than you thought it would!
I have a 1993 K2500 GMC Suburban SLE that I purchased recently with the same problem. It's nice to be flipping thru UA-cam and see a possible correction for my problem. Going to get the sensors and see if it takes care of the problem on my vehicle. Thank you.
I am definitely one of those people who people accuse of shooting the parts cannon at my car sometimes. I noticed that eventually, if they pay attention, they realize that my car is in very good condition for how old it is, and they appreciate that in a way. I really enjoy this car so I don't mind going above and beyond maintaining it. It's how I choose to spend my money. Also I usually have some very long and intricate reason for replacing parts without any dash lights telling me to, that involves a lot of anecdotal evidence. I think it is the engineer in me. I also hate when my car has issues, I just want it to perform at its peak when I want it to ;) . I loved the video, as usual! car: 2011 bmw 323i.
im the same way my friend
I replaced my 2 wheel drive 2004 burb front hubs and the abs sensors were in the kit. The hubs were rusted in and had to be hammered out, so far so good. Glad yours was a simple fix.
I’ve been around gmt400 all my life and this light has always been on and I never bothered to mess with it
I think we all can agree
Saved u a lot of money 💰
They use the best lights in those dash lights they never burn out
The sensor doesn't always need replacement. Usually brake dust needs to be cleaned off of the sensor. Do this whenever you service your brakes.
most failures to the wheel sensor is the wire. it rubs to the dustshield and shorts out over time,, i did fix the wire one time. but a smal preventive thing to do is to ziptie a rubberhose over the wire at dustshield at all fasteners
You are a real car doctor you are so gentle
with my '95 k1500 it is sweet when a part is under 100 dollars.
Alternatively we can use an ohm meter to measure the continuity of the wheel sensor. Depending on the brand, the sensor should have some reading not too high/low. Make a comparison between Left/Right sensor ohm reading if you do not have an OBD scanner.
GM also have a problem with the ABS module, which is probably what they replaced before? That usually triggers the ABS light and the park brake lights. I fixed mine by opening it up and resoldering the broken connections.
I like the logic that you followed to get to the problem without havIng to
check for the voltage or the resistance on the rest of the wires connected to the
sensors which would have required to spend more time underneath the
vehicle. This would have been a pain. Thank you for showing us.
I've had the ABS light on my 03 Sierra for 4 years until i traded it in
On those trucks you can substitute a 1k ohm resistor for the speed sensor and see if the code changes to history. The EBCM sends a test signal to the sensors and if a sensor is open, it sets a code and turns the ABS lamp on. The actual speed sensor generates an AC signal so the resistor cannot be used to diagnose a erratic or incorrect signal but for testing for an open, the resistor will work.
Well, on my 95 Suburban, the diagnostic is pretty easy - the lead caught on fire when I had to torch out the sway bar end links. Yay rust belt. I still say mine stops better without the ABS functioning.
Sorry to say you got dupped at the stealership opps I mean the dealership. If those sensor were 25 yr old they wouldn’t pop out like that. They charged you a 1000 bucks for a speed sensor. This was a great video. You helped a lot of people.
my Toyota had an intermittent abs tight coming on, the mechanic replaced the hub with the ring on, it did not cure the fault, rang the main dealer, who advised it could be dirt- corrosion between the hubcarrier and sensor, I took the sensor out of the hub carrier, cleaned off 14 years of crap where ti bolts in,, job done
My 91 K1500 had the same thing, I just unplugged the module. But might do this Thanks!!
Brake pedal switch usually.
Always use die tec grease on connectors. Usually the plug gets corroded at the plug, on top of the frame. Its a T30 Star bit. Just change them.
Definitely the easiest way to check an ABS sensor without a scanning tool. Good job!
I have had a nagging stutter and Erratic misfire with a dead spot in throttle on my 1988 s-10. I looked the motor over, made a list of sensors, filters, plugs and a valve cover gasket. I worked on a portion each day and in 4 days I had it all compete. Wow does my truck run like a brand new one! I went all acdelco, absolutely NO KNOCKOFF’s because they have cost me more in the long run shorting out or even plastic tip melting “air temp sensor”. It may have cost me $300 in the parts cannon but a garage in labor would have charged almost that for diagnostic and just a few parts because of shop mark up and those parts wouldn’t have been acdelco. Now I have a few good used back up sensors put up also since 1988 parts are becoming hard to come by. Using the parts cannon can be a very good thing.
Yes I do know how happy that can make you feel.
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra with my ABS light on and I have not bothered to mess with it.
my problem also may just be a sensor I just have not dove into it yet.
So glad I watched your video
Keith
I bet Jimmy uses an OEM AC Delco electric toothbrush.
With ACDelco OEM toothpaste.
Dual cam turbo you forgot to mention.
I had a 96 gmc suburban. I had that issue as well. I love your truck.
Got same light on a 2004 chevy s10, might give it a try, thank you for sharing
It looks as though you may have my same “ESR” brand clear cover with the super high quality kickstand. Mine is an iPhone XR, but they make all sizes. I sure do like mine. BTW, I’m not sponsored to say that, I just really like it myself and recommend it.
✌🏻😎👍🏻
Same problem in my 95 Tahoe. Since i’m replacing a brake line to front driver side, i’ll have to check that out. Thanks!
Thanks, I have the sensors on order for my 2001 Silverado. Now I am not worried about doing the work.😁
My chevy van (I went at the top of the rotor, air vent holes, spay a bunch of pb blaster down in there, fix it for now)somebody might use this, might work!
I will definitely try this on my 2002 Chevrolet Suburban Z71 4x4.
Thank You Sir

I drive a 1995 suburban that had the ABS light on. Narrowed it down to a right front speed sensor. After repair it took about a mile of driving to make the light go out.
Thanks for a video of you working on your truck instead of sleeping in it. 😆
See that Jimmy like using that Term "Parts Cannon"
I need to do the same with my 96 burb. Good job again
Dude, your the man 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for your videos!! 🌞
I really really like that 95 suburban , Its beautiful.
That's what a scan tool is for. For me I had a bad wheel bearing but it did point me in the right direction. And don't ever put a LED bulb in the ABS light as it will never go out.
I had my abs light on my 95 ck1500 I was in trade school I was able to use a tech 2 and found out the whole ABS assembly was at fault did not wonna buy a new one lol I just removed the bulb a call it a day lol. The ABS system on the gmt 400’s will make you have a Sponge’e Pedal because they trap air they are some videos on UA-cam to get rid of the abs and some upgrade to NBS brake master Cylinder.
Have you seen the tool that allows you to pump grease into the hub?
Great content 👍🏻👍🏻 took me a handful of your videos to realize it was you. Great channel
Very cool way to diagnosing. Question: I put a bi-directional OBD2 computer on my challanger. All 4 of my wheel speed sensors are showing the same speed while under way. Is it possible that even though the computer is constantly reading accurate speed that there is still a bad sensor causing my ABS and BRAKE lamp to be on? I suspect the answer is no
Parts cannon for the win...boom boom boom
YES! The video I’ve been waiting for!
Hey Jimmy, I really appreciate your videos, and the time you have spent performing repairs and upgrades to your Suburban! I’ve found them very helpful, as I have a 95 Chevy Suburban, which I absolutely LOVE, but has many of the same issues you’ve covered in your work! Thank you!
Hello Jimmy, I have a Toyota Sienna 2002 with the same problem = Engine light on & ABS light on after Rear Brakes got replace for very 1st time in 18 years. But brakes works just fine. Should we do same procedure = replacing the wheels Sensors? Please advise if possible. Thanks 🙏
The wiring plug locations on the gmt400 and my gmt800 yukon denali ante identical! Probably used the same sensor as well.
Always better to prevent a problem then have a problem
Thanks for the video and I am excited for you, but how did your suburban pass state inspections with the ABS light on?????
I did the same thing with the same parts and the light still came on along with the abs while driving... I just unplugged them and that's how they stay.
That is great that the problem is fixed. However I would like to have seen you do only one sensor at a time and then return it to its original form, if that wasn't the problem, before checking the second one. And I would like to have seen you clean off the grease on the old one and test it clean just to make sure that wasn't the problem. What you did fixed it and that's great but the ABS system is far more complex than just a bad sensor. You can have ABS/TC lights come on when there is nothing wrong with your system, but something else is causing it. But in those cases it will come on when driving it, and usually always determines that the wheels are spinning at different RPMs. If the wheels are of a different diameter (by how much, I don't know) they will spin at different speeds and that is exactly what the ABS system is made to determine. If the tires are all identical in make and size, then the problem could be tire pressure or tread depth differences requiring rechecking the tire pressures or shaving tires that are taller due to tread depth. I'm STILL troubleshooting my 2005 Chevrolet Equinox AWD after a year of this problem. My Subaru dealer told me this is critical for AWD Subarus (I have a few of those) and requires you to shave all the tires to the same diameter if it happens or they will void the warranty on the transmission as it will ruin the transmissions!
Can you use the same set up to delete the ABS on a 2005 2W drive Chevy Colorado???
Get a OBD scanner that can check ABS. That should tell you where the problem is.
Jimmy, you do a great job. So by now, I hope that you have some kind of auto scanner. Keep up the great videos.
Brother, I have a problem with the ABS, the light comes on but also the unit does not work. The diagnostic shows a problem with the unit, but maybe I should look at something else before replacing the unit? The vehicle is the vw bora. Thank you very much and be healthy
Thanks man...that was timely...Funtastic!
Random but is Jimmy a VFW?
Retired military?
(Good job in the repair)
Your truck is so clean!
Do you use some Anti-seize compound to make it easier to remove next time ??
As always, the true test is time. If the ABS light comes back on sometime soon, be sure to let us know.
By the way, I just looked it up on Wikipedia and, your 95 GMC Suburban has the GMT 425 frame and my 95 Yukon has the 430 frame. GMT 400's were in the pick-ups.
GMT400 refers to the entire truck line, from pickups to Tahoes and Yukons to Suburbans
If you replace a wheel bearing, keep the old sensor for diagnosis.
I had quite a battle getting my bearing out (rust) so I was hasty to toss it in the bin, kinda like a body slam lol, I will fish it out tomorrow and harvest the sensor for just that purpose
I'm in the same boat I've gone through just about everything I think it's something to either do with the computer or the wire harness what are your thoughts on ABS delete
GMC Suburban 95 - best project you do ;)
While I haven't had experience with ABS errors on a GMT400, nearly every GMT800 and GMT900 that I had come in for service with an ABS light on was due to a failing wheel hub bearing... It's something to keep an eye on with age and mileage.
The senses were also trip off when the wheel hubs are going bad I have experienced that.
The only way to know if bad or dirty, would be to clean the old one and replace for a minute to see…👀
Of course, replacement was in order in either case.
Instead of just shooting the parts cannon, why not learn something? Go on line and find out if you have an active of passive system. If active, the process is more involved, but you can still check for the presence on voltage (something close to 12) and ground on each lead on the vehicle side of the plug. Thus eliminating the car’wiring. If passive like yours, you can probe the sensor side and check for resistance, they should both be about the same. If one have very high resistance, or infinite resistance, that is the bad one.
Don’t forget to unhook your battery. No one mentions that since it is electrical.
love how this was presented.
I seee your old sensor look like brushed from Reading gears....is the new one still ok ?
I did this on BMW and i have to get there the washer to predict brushing from wheel gear ( it can couse corrosion and material extensibility
Wheel sensor wires if u dont fix..u can have all kinds issues..had a bad one..engine wud not give full power..n brakes wud lock up..abs..cuz it thought i was off in the ground or no traction.. But try driving 10 miles back home doin 5 mhp a hour..krazy
What grease do you use?
Nice video!
My abs light just came on , its a Rord explorer, eddie bower eddition limited edition 1998, mint condition. I always get ripped off . Any ideas?
Great information.Maryland showing ❤️
Timken was Chevy original sensor brand?
Great job Jimmy ! Thanks for the video's. 🇺🇸
How about Abs AND Brake light....2002 silverado 2500hd ?
My Silverado 95 is having starting problems. Some days it starts fine next day it just cranks does not start. What you think it can be ?
Replace the wheel bearings, this fixes the problem completely.
I recently bought a '95 Suburban. Will it also turn my hair gray?
That's something you can check out on cts Cadillac with engine light on?
Outstanding job 👍🏾, thanks for sharing.
Is there a left and right sensor or are they are the same
Would this cause the abs pump to run even when the engine is off killing my battery
2006 pontiac torrent no abs light but abs kicks on when stopping or backing out of the driveway
That grese it is not normal there..that mean the wheel bearing is gone👍👍👍
I'm surprised that the mileage is so low. Everything i see for sale has 150,000 miles or more.
Yeah I thought it was weird my ABS sensor was going off and on when I already had my breaks checked like 2 months ago and they told me it was perfectly fine so unless something broke which is doubtful... It's most likely a faulty sensor because it literally popped up when I was parked and not moving at all.
You can have good brakes, caliper, rotor and brake lines and still have a bad hub which is behind the rotor. The sensor is reading the wheel speed in the back of the hub. So you can have good breaks but still have a bad hub. The wheel bearings are inside the hub and the tone wheel is at the back of the hub. The tone wheel has teeth. The sensor is magnetically counting the number of teeth. In a skid, one or more wheels are locked up and skidding, the sensor isn't going to read any teeth going past the sensor, because that wheel has stopped turning. This tells the control module to reduce the brake fluid pressure going to that wheel. So you're still pressing the brakes but on that wheel the pads are going to release grab release grab, over and over again. It's going to pump the brakes for you. In a skid we used to have to do this with our foot. We could just pump the brakes. Now the ABS system does that for you. But it only pumps the wheels that are skidding. Without the ABS system and you're pumping the brakes with your foot it is pumping all of the brakes at the same time. The module does it for you in a skid, but only to the wheels that are skidding.
The module is the largest expense. Some have talked about removing it themselves and opening it up. And finding broken connections that need to be re-soldered.
If the wheel bearings are going out (inside the hub) it's best to just replace the entire hub because they come with a new sensor. The sensor is plugged into the back of the hub and if it's starting to disintegrate there's going to be a metallic particles. That interferes with the sensor. If you jack up the car and rock the wheel back and forth and it doesn't seem to be a bad wheel bearing, then the tone wheel with the teeth is probably still good too. Because they usually start to crumble and crack because the wheel can wobble. So you can have a good sensor at the wheel hub and the problem is not the sensor it is the teeth on the tone wheel. A wheel hub with crumbling tonewheel. A new sensor is not going to fix. If the problem is the sensor it's usually a good sensor it's just filthy with metallic brake dust and metallic particles from deteriorating bearings. Or even metal particles from a deteriorating tone wheel. Because the sensor is magnetic and the particles will stick to it. The tone wheel is also part of the wheel hub just like the bearings. It's all one unit. So you can have brand new brakes and still have crunchy wheel bearings. This is something to think about when you choose metallic brake pads or ceramic pads.
You have to have good brakes. The ABS is an extra system which pumps the brakes for you if you start to skid. Of course if the ABS is trying to pump your brakes and you don't have brakes that is also a problem! I mean they're both part of the brake system but if the ABS goes out you can still pump the brakes with your own foot if you start to skid. So your basic normal brakes and your abs, "pump the brakes for me please!" Are two different systems.
Nice job Jimmy... It's about time you fixed that....😂😂😂
Aloha thanks for the tips man it helps me out and cuts time and money too !! DIY🤙🏽🤠
Awsesome video, man!! Thanks.
DOn't forget to replace the rear sensors
fire the parts canon
