Believe it or not, this album is officially in the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry as of 2015, which means it was determined by the federal government to be preserved for all time because of its historical significance. It is the first metal album to be given this distinction. When “Master of Puppets” was released, it sold half a million copies with almost no commercial airplay, no music videos, and no mainstream promotion. Its success was 100% an organic product of fans. I personally think it is their best album, followed closely by Kill Em All (their first album) and I love that this received that type of recognition. Every song on the album is thought provoking and the band was only in their mid-20s when it was released to put things into perspective.
I personally believe that And Justice For All should be in there too. I mean Blackened, Eye of the Beholder, One, as well as the title track. I mean c'mon
Wow amber. I’m amazed at the depth of your understanding of the lyrics. You totally get it. Dunno if you saw but AC/DC is charting on billboard again. People are buying album Highway to Hell like crazy. Rock/metal ALWAYS comes back around.
Great reaction guys. I worked security at the stage when they were relatively unknown opening for Ozzy (Ultimate Sin Tour) and they absolutely killed it. People were standing there mouths open stunned. Never forget it!
Did you notice how y’all didn’t interrupt the song even one time to discuss it? It’s just that type of song. You don’t interrupt Master of Puppets! This was really beautiful to see you two just take the tune in, in its entirety, without feeling any need to break into it. That’s why you’re the best at this!

You guys listened to this song the way it is meant to be. No pauses. Just straight listening and rocking out. Feeling every emotion and epic instrumentals. This was awesome. Love ya guys.
Drugs are a heavy and hard thing to kick. It took me a long time and with the help of my wife I am sober for 31 yrs now. This song is great look into what the addict feels. Be you own master of your life.
It's great that you have established the pattern of pausing a song mid-way. Because now, when you listen straight through uninterrupted, we all know you really got into it. It is so much fun sharing an experience with someone who can appreciate it.
Congrats Jay and Amber! You are the first reactors to this song that nailed the meaning of the song completely. You even understood the slow part. BTW, I'm 64 years old and will head bang and hair whip (my hair is long) to this song every time. 🤘
Just the fact that they've been doing music reactions for years, and today was the first time hearing Metallica's best song. We really dropped the ball!
I'm so glad that you listened to this without pausing it and interrupting. It has to be listened to in its entirety and just soak up the different layers in the track. Brilliant.
Now this is Metallica! They put it all out there on this album, and no one else was achieving this sound in 1986. They blew our minds, built a huge fan base and changed the metal scene! All without ZERO radio play and ZERO MTV airplay. I remember Metallica being featured in all the metal magazines, their albums were selling out in the record stores, and they toured everywhere. It wasn’t until their Black album in 1991 when they started to achieve real commercial success.
Nothing sounded like early Metallica. I love James' raw higher tone screamsinging. He's matured into more traditional singing, most likely protecting his instrument but that younger hungry energy was electric.❤
This is about addiction and my favorite line is "Chop your breakfast on a mirror". Early Metallica songs I like include "Battery" and "Seek and Destroy". I love the instrumental "Orion" from the Master of Puppets album. I saw them live in Melbourne, Australia and of course - they kicked butt. ❣
Seen them on this tour back in the mid 80's. So glad I got to see Cliff live. Metallica is one of my Top 2 favorite Bands of all time. Seen them 22 times.
One of the reasons this song is so good is the way they transition from the soft melodic middle section back into the heavy sound, which then leads double-time into the solo. A lot of 80s thrash songs have a melodic middle section that doesn't really seem connected to the rest of the song, but this one does it right.
So intense you guys didn't pause the song even once! So cool seeing Jay bobbing his head to the raw power and Amber just losing herself in the atmosphere and the lyrics! This was their last album with their bassist Cliff Burton as he would be killed in a tour bus accident shortly after. Excellent reaction, guys! 🤘🤘
Wow, Amber was spot on about what the song was mainly about. Good job, girl! This is one of my favorite Metallica songs, and to hear the band play it live is one heck of an experience. I saw them again live last year when they were on tour, and they still got it! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

I like that metallica, that feel, that structure, dynamics, melodic sense, power, transitions…. Because iron maiden is my favorite band and artists and musicians ever, and i know the big influence!
Now imagine being in an arena with twenty thousand other Metallica fans. Every single person chanting ‘Master! Master!’ at the top of their lungs. It’s almost a religious experience.

I listened to it before giving it to him and had never heard anything like this. It became a regular cassette I brought on my paper route.
That full sound is the work of producer Flemming Rasmussen in Copenhagen. Metallica has had many studio producers and many of their studio recording adventures are documented here on UA-cam. Give em a watch. It’s interesting to see how an album is pieced together.
The pace of the rhythm & drums is the addicts heartbeat going from desperation to panic to halting calm to worry then back to desperation again then STOPS with the echoes of the drug laughing & fading away

You just listened to a damn masterpiece. One the greatest thrash metal songs hands down. And that solo, holy shit man. Still get goosebumps when solo drops and can't sit still when you have it turned up to 10 lol. Metallica family for life🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
RIP EDDIE!!
Most. Metal. Concert. Ever!!
Eddie the head
Rob Squad, you two are awesome. Its cool to see the two of you jamming to some of the greatest music of my time.I still jam on it today @ 60 years old.My opinion ,we had the best music ever.70s-80s
Their best song on their best album. Also RIP Cliff Burton 😭
First time I think Jay didn't hit the pause button... Glad you guys could experience that. Now imagine it's 1986 (i was 15) and hearing this for the 1st time... Just like you guys, it blew me away
Probably the greatest Metal song ever written
OMG! Just starting. So happy youre finally doing this. ❤❤❤
Note that the average age of the band's members when they composed this masterpiece was just 22 years old. Outrageous!!!
YES!!! Been waiting for you guys to get to this one for a long time 🤟
When I was 14, my cousin had been caught shoplifting at a local store and was banned for a year. It was the only place to get new music so he asked me get Master of Puppets for him when it came out. I listened to it before giving it to him and had never heard anything like this. It became a regular cassette I brought on my paper route.
Imaging here this for the first time as a 14 year old in 1986. It just blew your mind. Metallica and then Guns and Roses.
Perhaps the greatest Metal Album ever.
I'm not sure Amber didn't nail the embodiment, essence and message of that song almost perfectly.
🤘😎
Absolutely...no question.
No question about it
The greatest metal album. The only metal album deemed culturally significant in the library of congress. MASTERPIECE.
Superb album and definitely one of the best ever, just not the best. Too many I’d put over this one, but it’s my personal favorite Metallica album.
That full sound is the work of producer Flemming Rasmussen in Copenhagen. Metallica has had many studio producers and many of their studio recording adventures are documented here on UA-cam. Give em a watch. It’s interesting to see how an album is pieced together.
A forever classic. Their best song imo
I would say Fade to Black.
The pace of the rhythm & drums is the addicts heartbeat going from desperation to panic to halting calm to worry then back to desperation again then STOPS with the echoes of the drug laughing & fading away
Kirk Hammett is a guitar GOD
This song live is absolutely sick- one of my faves just for audience participation
Imagine Dave Mustine playing the lead? What would've he done with it?
The guitar harmonies are insane
My husband came running when you started the song to headbang his bald head.
iconic line...pain monopoly, ritual misery, chop your breakfast on a mirror. Tells you exactly what you need to know about the song.
Great reaction. Love watching your reactions. You REALLY need to do Fade to Black, Orion, Leper Messiah, and then Disposable Heroes. Those are epic songs you haven't hit on yet.
This will be good! ...and Finally! Amber...you nailed it with your interpretation.♥
