    Fun fact, in Gen 1 and Gen 1 only, you can knock yourself out while setting up a substitute. So technically, yes, the Arcanine could have set up the substitute, but since it would KO him by doing so, he would lose due not to luck, but his own strategy.

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  Рік тому +12

      This. So every time you have a Pokemon with HP that is exactly a multiple of 4, Substitute is worse.

    • @TheSkullkid16
      @TheSkullkid16 Рік тому +2

      @RBYPokemonChallenges Not just the multiples of 4: since the amount taken away is determined by 1/4 of your Max HP, rounded down, it can happen to any pokemon in Gen 1, regardless of its Max HP. In all generations, it's better to have it be that 1-3 HP remainder above the 1/4th division so you can use it 4 times, otherwise you only get 3 uses out of Substitute. However, in all generations besides Gen 1, it'll simply give you a message saying you don't have enough HP, even if you are at the 1/4 threshold. In Gen 1 only, if you have enough HP, you'll make the substitute, lose the HP, and then, if you have 0 HP, you will faint.

    From what I remember, those OHKO moves ignore evasion.
    Along with that
    He's 53 levels higher, so it's 30+53 so 83% chance to hit.
    (This is how it works in gen 3 atleast so I'm hoping I'm still right)

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  Рік тому +7

      Gen 1 is different. Accuracy still affects OHKO in Gen 1 and level does not have any impact on accuracy

    • @CobaltCruiser
      @CobaltCruiser Рік тому +3

      To add to it, the higher the user's speed is compared to the opponent's, the more likely an OHKO move is to land

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  Рік тому +6

      In later Gens, this is spot on, but Gen 1 is different. From Bulbapedia:
      "Accuracy mechanics
      Generation I
      All OHKO moves have an accuracy of 30%, but they will automatically fail if the user's Speed stat is lower than the target's. An X Accuracy will guarantee that all OHKO moves hit. The accuracy of OHKO moves in Generation I is affected by the standard accuracy and evasion stats. "

      Its a quirk in gen 1 coding. The game puts you in a state of invulnerable when you go underground(expect for bind or swift) and it reverts the invulnerable when you complete dig. Since you skip your turn with para, you never complete the dig, so you can still attack when being invulnerable.

      @RBYPokemonChallenges  11 місяців тому

      The main point is that if I can beat the game with a level 5 Pokemon using this strategy, I could always beat the game with normally levelled Pokemon in the same way, and generally at normal levels you just swap Double Team for Rest and get very similar results

    • @RBYPokemonChallenges
      @RBYPokemonChallenges  Рік тому

      I agree, its at its best in that case, either with Substitute or Confuse Ray on particular, but it has more to do with it also being available to everything, which makes it just bad for my ultimate goal of showing unique playstyles of each Pokemon. Of course there will be cases where I use it, but only as a last resort to maintain minimum battles or to see the Pokemon's moveset on situations other than just ghosts specifically (Eevee has no other way to beat Pokemon Tower for example), but I generally avoid it like the plague

    • @dragonslayerz2220
      @dragonslayerz2220 Рік тому

      I'd argue that Bide should still be excluded, since most Pokemon don't have much of a use for the move against major fights, unless they can't deal with the Rock Tunnel Hiker or need some help against Misty.

      For what it's worth I think mimic is fine cause it's really fun to use in creative ways trying to find the right move for the job, since the way it's used tend to vary a lot depending on what else your pokemon can do and what the opponent pokemon has. (doesn't mean it's not broken but it's broken in interesting ways, unlike double team that is just very boring).
      I also like that your system still allows pokemon to use these moves if they learn them by themselves (well specifically double team/minimize) since that gives these pokemon a unique flavour rather than just doing the broken thing every pokemon can do.

    Also, I like your scoring system. It's got a strange feature though, that you can get positive and negative scores, and the sign of the score doesn’t really mean anything so eg. getting 0 isn’t special. Maybe you could try something like 100/(x+1) where x is all the total of the different penalty points you came up with. Then you'd get 100 points with zero penalty, and the score decreases towards zero the more penalty points you get.

      Could look at it. I use a score of zero as a cutoff for a run. If I ever got there, and I have, I know that whatever I'm trying to do is so bad that it's back to the drawing boatd

    Love your work brother but double team strats are an instant leave from me. Of any pokemon can do anything if the enemy misses every time, save scumming for lucky dodges isn't fun to watch. Just my opinion, gl with the runs.

      Cheers, but I think you didn't watch far enough to realize that is the entire point. Mimic, Double Team, Substitute, and Toxic are all completely broken unoriginal strats that allow any Pokemon to beat the game. I would only not that not only should Double Team be regarded as boring and unoriginal, but so too is Rest, Mimic, Bide, Toxic, and Substitute.

    It's the most frustrating thing that every single Pokemon channel feels the constant- and unfortunately justified- urge to justify themselves against the horde of nerd emojis in the comment section. If you grind enough you can have max PP on all 4 moves by trading and trading back from another game and resetting it a few times.

      Truth. But you know that you're going to get comments complaining if you don't say everything, it's kind of shocking how seriously people take the game, debating rules of personal challenges in a 25 year old game 😂

    That was fun and interesting treat to have . I really liked that you were trying different strategies to basically break the game, I always find these fun and interesting to do in my own runs.🤔
    The best part was using your favourite Pokémon to complete that run ,and try to see the difference between having broken moves and broken moves that can be learnt by almost any Pokémon.😊
    Also thanks for making such incredible videos,and I hope that you'll reach your next milestone soon .🫡
