I find it amusing that Gyarados and Exeggutor's Slow growth rates are actually kind of an advantage here, since leveling up more slowly makes it so they become disobedient more slowly.
If my mayh is correct, it's only slightly slower a Fast growth rate Pokémon. The level formula for a Slow growth rate mon is (5/4)(x^3), where x is the target level (for instance, to reach Level 10, you need (5/4)(10^3) EXP, which comes out to 1250.) (Really wish I could write the ^3 as a superscript, but my formatting options are limited.) If you're gaining 50% more experience, you effectively need 2/3 the experience you would normally need. So (5/4)(2/3)(x^3) = (10/12)(x^3) = (5/6)(x^3). For comparison, x^3 is the level up formula for Medium Fast growth rate mons, and (4/5)(x^3) is the formula for a Fast mon. The level up formula for Medium Slow mons is a bit trickier to compare to, since it's a more complex polynomial: (6/5)(x^3) - 15(x^2) + 100x - 140. (I did have to look that one up, and also this is where I really wish I could use superscript.) I tried calculating stuff to for the comparisons, but I ended up frustrating myself so I'll leave that to someone whose algebra and calculus isn't so rusty it's on the verge of disintegrating. Of course, saying that the growth rate of a traded Slow growth rate mon is (x^3)(5/6) isn't entirely accurate, since having boosted experience introduces an additional layer of rounding that messes with things, but it's pretty darn close.
So... I have a confession to make. I started down this solo challenge with you, RBYchallenges, and really enjoyed the content. Then, I randomly happened upon Scott's Thoughts through auto play one day and spent a good solid week being confused. You see. You have similar energy when talking, so I thought you were the same guys for a bit and spent that first week going through runs I thought I had watched already like Mewtwo and the Starters and what have you only to realize that I had been watching separate channels after getting a bit confused why it was auto playing runs I had watched before. I discovered two fantastic solo challenge runners that day. Been watching you both about a year now. Keep up the good work man. Super interesting stuff.
That is so awesome! Funny that I could be confused with Scott, since he's way more polished than I am, but glad you discovered and enjoy both of our content!
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I just love your Super Minimum battles runs, man. I think your polish is just fine by the eye test, by the way. Great, in fact. You each put your own spin on this form of challenge in Gen. 1, and it really shows in your presentation. Plus, you don't abuse Rest strats as much, so I really respect that as I have long since banned the move in my own adventures. I'd call Scott more of a efficient speed runner and you more of a pure challenge runner. It really helps you guys out with identity and giving a different perspective on how these runs can be.... well... run.
Thank you for watching! I want to do more of these, but perhaps with unevolved forms where the disobedience versus the better moveset becomes a bigger factor
Thank you for the shout out. I use a different Channel JohnnyPlays911 for my Pokemon games. Only the Kangaskhan run so far, but hopefully the Gen 5 1st gym one soon
I didn’t predict Gyarados having trouble vs Blaine or Exeggutor to have so much trouble against Lorelei! GGs, my prediction failed but it was sick anyways :3
Yeah, Blaine is almost always a minor wall on Minimum Battles, especially with 0 DVs. Lorelei comes down to the fact that Jynx is so fast and is guaranteed to use Ice Punch!
So before watching the video completely I think that with minimum battles the disobedience won't be that much of an issue since the badges will make Pokémon obey faster than they will level up
It’s funny how often sleeping moves become a detriment, being used when it’s not necessary and taking additional time and damage from how wildly inaccurate it is. The 60% accuracy is a trap; don’t listen to the siren’s song.
I can reach anywhere on my back, so itches there are not much of a problem. The problem is an itch on my heel or the like where the skin is so tough that scratching just doesn’t get through.
49:45 - Did you accidentally cut some footage here you didn't intend to? It seemed like you were in mid-sentence, and the footage skipped right past Dugtrio & Persian.
If you lose the Oak's lab fight -> Vaporeon If you win in the lab and lose/skip the optional Rival 1a fight -> Flareon If you beat both Rivals before Brock -> Jolteon
Why do you cut the tree to the west of lavender town? I think it's faster to go up and over. Is it cus it's harder to avoid the trainers on the left at higher game speed?
Exactly. You have to route through a 1-tile space to route around all the trainers, and it's so much simpler this way. At 1x speed, I can definitely see the argument for that routing though.
@Akita23 thank you. I thought I had been a reason of somesort wish happy new year too you :) .i Didn't see community post sorrys . Video look good to me at least. Much respect his dedication 👏 goes above and beyond leaves me speechless:)
Yeah, sorry for the confusion celticv. I fixed some sections like a random Gyarados section over Nugget Bridge, and missing music for the Surge and Koga gym leader intros
@RBYPokemonChallenges got no need to sorry :) fact that your reposting video honestly go extra mile just for us members it's Very heart warming I didn't even notice changes . I find it amusing that Gyarados and Exeggutor's Slow growth rates are actually kind of an advantage here, since leveling up more slowly makes it so they become disobedient more slowly.
Exactly! And once you add in the faster EXP from being traded, they almost level up like fast level up Pokemon.

Gyarados having Hydro Pump as a starting move in Red/Blue is pretty op.
It was truly broken. Easily the biggest nerf in Gen 1 between Red/Blue and Yellow
Also Dragon Rage
@@RBYPokemonChallenges I agree, but Alakazam's is a close call.
I love these trade back race challenges. Nearly 30 years after the games came out you managed to find a fresh take on the games.

For sure, keep me posted cause I'll watch it!
This was a cool comparison, and now I wanna give RB Gyarados a shot with Super Minimum Battles 🤔
Aw yeah!
I can't believe you hit the crit and freeze. The rare candies weren't even needed. Amazing god fish run. ❤
Yeah, that was stupidly lucky. Luck is always a part of solo runs when going for speed, and that was super clutch
I didn't get to catch the first one but glad to see a fixed version just in time. I just saw the community post so it worked
Appreciate it. I left the original as an unlisted video.

Hope you had a great Christmas and NYE dude! Appreciate the content over the last week 😁
Thank you Kyle! BTW, I have tons of projects in mind for this year. Let's go!!!
53:44 I love how the enemy Vaporeon heals your lethal burn with Haze. 😂
Best Rival Pokemon ever! Vaporeon and Eggy are tight!
23:20 I would think that Exeggutor is using telekinesis to either lift itself in the air or to pin the Zubat to the ground in order to Stomp it.
That makes sense, but it's hilarious in the former or super dark in the latter case
It was such a great video that I think I seen most of it twice lol
Woah, thanks for watching again philipmurphy!
So before watching the video completely I think that with minimum battles the disobedience won't be that much of an issue since the badges will make Pokémon obey faster than they will level up
Ah yes one of the OG version exclusives
It's always interesting to see what they "fixed" between Red/Blue and Yellow

In some cases, I absolutely agree. Against Blaine or Lorelei, there are spots where that 60% chance could be enough, but in practice it's just so bad.
7:17 Exeggutor's Truant ability activated
Basically, yeah.
@@RBYPokemonChallenges
Does this mean that Slaking is not actually lazy but NO TRAINER has the experience to control it properly.
I can reach anywhere on my back, so itches there are not much of a problem. The problem is an itch on my heel or the like where the skin is so tough that scratching just doesn’t get through.
Oh god, I know that feeling. It's terrible too!
I was just *ITCHING* to watch this clip! 😜
Scratch that itch.... fail the Speedrun 😂
44:02 and 47:14 so Teo answered the age old question: is TM28... *TOMBSTONER, BROTHER!!!!*
TOMBSTONER, BROTHER!!
BROTHER!
Eggman all day 💪🏾💪🏾
Eggy is pretty damn good, I will say
Has somebody been spamming amnesia?
Nah, there were a couple of editing mistakes in the first one I posted, so it's a reup
Did you know that in terms of human reproduction, Vaporeon...
Oh god 😂
49:45 - Did you accidentally cut some footage here you didn't intend to? It seemed like you were in mid-sentence, and the footage skipped right past Dugtrio & Persian.
RIP. Must have been a cutting mistake
I will check.
Question: as someone more familiar with Red/Blue than Yellow, what determines what eeveelution the rival gets?
Afaik it depends on which encounters with him you win/loose
If you lose the Oak's lab fight -> Vaporeon
If you win in the lab and lose/skip the optional Rival 1a fight -> Flareon
If you beat both Rivals before Brock -> Jolteon

Please forgive if I am asking dumb question. Is there any reason why reposting the same video? . Or something missing ? . . Feels watch same video
Look at his community posts, there were some editing mistakes, had to be re-uploaded. Think of it as supporting him again for the extra effort 😊

Oh yeah, he had the God Fesh in Red/Blue from Rival 4 onward too
Why have you retired from yellow?
Not retired, but working on a big project in the background. Should hopefully have the next video up this weekend, but at latest early next week!
