You know, quite a few people don't give pop drummers enough credit. Sure, some may not be the most technical or flashiest of drummers out there, but they can maintain consistent beats, have good accent timing, and just have fun doing what they do. But they may be far more capable drummers than we give them credit for. Think about this, Domino is primarily a pop drummer; she has never heard this song before the video and had to improvise drum parts. The fact that she put together a great beat like this on the fly after a few listens and displayed this talent is VERY impressive. She could be more of a metal drummer if she wanted to. Just goes to show you, just because Domino is a pop drummer, doesn't mean she can't play anything else including metal; the same could be said for many other drummers out there. Truly a versatile drummer she is! LOVED this video!
Very true. Big pop acts typically hire top-level drummers: Dave Elitch has played with Miley Cyrus and M83, Tony Royster Jr with Katy Perry, Aaron Spears with Usher, Abe Laboriel Jr with Paul McCartney, Gregg Bissonette with Ringo, the list goes on and on. Typically, the required material isn't that difficult to play, but with these cats there's just a level of rock-solid professionalism, which includes being able to learn new material VERY quickly. I think Dave has said that before hitting the road, he only ran the material once with Miley's band (similar situation with Mars Volta, which is much crazier still, but off topic). And yeah, besides that, it's not just about WHAT you play, but about HOW and WHY. My impression is that a big part of the metal community gets stuck on the first level, purely focusing on how many notes get played or how crazy X polyrhythm is while losing track of the bigger picture.
Also she Just needed several Tries to create a badass Groove that totally suited the Song which she never ever heard before. That is Just awesome! I absolutely envy her and will try anything in my Power to become a Drummer Like her!

i don't care to admit i shed a few tears watching this. seeing the pure joy of drumming on her face while crafting a beautiful piece all her own. she is an amazing talent and reminded me why i fell in love with music to begin with. great video.
That woman deserves all the respect. It was actually kinda fun watch her figure the song out. Her idea about how the drums sounded was a great approximation of the actual song in the main part of the verses sounded like a take on Joey's style but the choruses were here own thing all together. And that build up at the end? A fantastic improvisation for a total departure from how the rest of the song sounded.
I don't get why she was so down about her interpretation! She injected her own personality into the song and that's the whole point of playing music in the first place! Love this.
The only thing I noticed, was that she was a little off-tempo during that final build up, but it's so inconsequential given how excellent her energy was.

(Edit: Yikes - back in the day drummers weren't so sensitive . . . )
Loved so many things about this and it goes to show if you get the structure and accents down, there is no one way to play something, Great job all the way around and her pure joy is infectious.
She's awesome. Love her energy.
As a singer who watches a lot of this type of content to help better understand and communicate with my band, it is so awesome to see this kind of energy, appreciation, love, and just pure FUN being had. I loved the original video but your reaction to it just made my heart explode with joy. The admiration on your face appropriately mirrors the audience. This chick is absolutely phenomenal.
I keep watching this video because
1: that jungle tom approach is so dirty and fun
2: The snare build in the bridge is awesome
Same here, and agreed. Her inspired take on those two sections was great!
I honestly prefer her interpretation of the bridge over the actual version. Amazing.
Yeah it was pretty fucking sick
Right? That drum roll breakdown was ASTOUNDING. Like FUCKING WOW 🔥
@@davidhurtado2725 Best part was how it sounds like it's speeded up a couple of bpm from the rest of the song, but she comes back in exactly in time. I'd have totally lost it doing that bit
Sometimes it's good to have someone play it who doesn't know the usual techniques of a genre. But she clearly is an absolute pro. Hard to pull off something like that if you're not a master of what you do
👍
She absolutely rocked it! And I absolutely love how supportive drummers are of each other, it's so damn wholesome!
Why are drummers always the friendliest and chillest people?
Maybe they just take all their aggression out on the kit? haha
Out of all the instruments that are commonly known, drums are and usually percussion instruments are the best in horizontal integration of the brain which results better integration of psyche and adaptive emotional quotients.
Maybe because they hang out with bass players. :)
cause they can gig sitting down. I'd be grumpy too if I had to be standing at work
because playing drums is amazing!
Musicians appreciating musicians…this is the world of music we need 🙏
She did amazing. I love this way of remixing, super interesting musicianship. Thank you drumeo thank you 66samus thank you Domino.
This is absolutely amazing, Watching her create from scratch, without drum reference - is awe inspiring, brought me to tears!! Hell yeah.
More and More i watch these videos i start to realize how diverse the drums. Seeing Samus on twitch and these videos is such an inspiration to have such a great time grooving with the beat and making it your own. And that break down got me choked up by the feels. SO GOOD! Thanks again for all you guys!
That buildup was a-frikking-mazing! Goosebumps inducing.
She's so modest, but she's amazing! Awesome to watch, great positive energy, she's so sick.
Bro stumbled across you and I love your positivity and encouragement. You my friend have the spirit that I love so much in metal 🤘
thank you so much!!!
I’m really loving her chops and the energy! I actually cheered for her at that build up! I seriously yelled, “YEAH!!” As a guitar player first and drummer second, I could never find a fault in her capturing and crushing that groove!
I love what she does with the bridge section. That build with all the snappy fills is so sweet.
She actually seems to be having a good time even though it’s not her genre. Such a cool video.
I ve been a drummer my whole life and I loved seeing this! This is pretty much how I learned how to play drums when I was a teenager. Awesome stuff and love that nobodys here being an elitist! Awesome sauce man
Proud to be one of her subscribers since when she had a small following. She killed it, great job
She really is a good drummer. That’s awesome 👏
Reactions should be like this.. no pause, no unecessary comments. Straight to points. Great video.. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
thank you!!
I truly hate when they pause making reaction videos. This guy gets it
@@davidhurtado2725 many reaction youtubers don't have the benefit of reacting to something they're personally sponsored by, so they pause occasionally to avoid copyright strikes. it's just how the game is played.
This world has such talented people in it. Absolutely blows me away.
I love how you can tell she is having so much fun with this. Makes me want to start drumming again.
What are you waiting for! :D
Straight up. She killed it. It was her take on what she was handed, and she nailed the feel.
I love the Drumming community supports one another no matter the genre!
My favorite thing when watching drummers is when they find that groove and start bobbing/moving with it. Domino killed it.
She did amazingly well considering. Her smile and spirit is adorable.
I loved watching this video when it first came out, and your reaction to it was pretty much the same as mine. Her energy was great, her ability to put together this cover after a few tries having never heard the song and still being so humble about it was even better… And I loved her buildup leading into the last chorus too!! Great reaction I’m glad I came across it.
She is incredible, I've never heard of her before but definitely got mad respect for her drumming abilities!
Such a shame Joey isn’t with us anymore, I would have loved to see his reaction to this.
She absolutely knocked it out of the park in my opinion though.
My damn cheeks hurt from grinning like a possum while watching this. She is insane!!! This is one of my new favorite drum videos. Drumeo is so awesome for doing this. I want more!!!!!
Watch her do a mastoden drumio . Mind blowing . Shes even more skilled than what shes shown here.
Domino did amazing. She picked it up really well and developed something very close. Awesome job!!!
I’ve watched this so many times it’s crazy. I honestly think the energy in this video could convert some folks to loving metal. I mean look at how much fun Samus and Domino are having. My goodness!!
Perfect that this popped up right after seeing her do it on Drumeo. Love your encouraging reaction input! Can't stop grinning!!❤❤❤
I'm Drumeo atticted...and Domino is simply awesome, she is amazing 👍🥁❤
I love how positive and open you are with her effort and creativity! Much respect to you man! ❤
I love seeing her confidence improve throughout the video. She nails it.
Edit: Also I'm getting strong punk vibes from her style. Maybe it's because of the kit that she has. But her energy is very punk rock. She could def play in a rock, punk, or metal band.
I think she enjoyed it more than she thought she would, I wanna see her play in a metal band. She could be a star.
That is beyond impressive & I am so jealous/envious. I always wanted to play the drums since I was 10 (in 1978) & my Mom would never let me cause she said that's not an instrument girls played. I wish my Mom was around to see her absolutely kill this.
Just go get a kit and start playing. Never too late to begin! Only person in your way now is you! GO FOR IT!
(i know its a really late reply) but go for it! its so much fun and its never too late
I always was drawn to the drums too as a young girl. My mom let me play piano but not the drums. Still now in my 30s, it seems so fun.
@@ashleypiper2558 genuinely its never to late, you should go for it!
I cannot believe that this is her first time hearing this song........... Just simply Wow!
It's probably not... but a drum cover by itself doesn't get views, does it?
@@EnwardSnowman If she'd heard it before there's no way she'd have deviated that much on the breakdown.
@@davidpeters6743 that's a ridiculous thing to say. Hearing a song doesn't mean you MUST play it back exactly the way you heard it
@@EnwardSnowman Broh, hearing the song would push you in certain directions especially when a part is particularly inconic
@@davidpeters6743 broh. Broh. Broh. Broh. Stop simping
I love these "First time Hearing" videos, but so far this is my favorite one by far. "Before I Forget" is such a great track, and what she did with her smaller kit was so frickin cool with amazing energy
You can hear the professionalism in her playing. Loved it
I love how with each take she gets closer and closer to the original drumming despite having not heard it herself.
This made me so happy, I smiled the whole time. I really hope she delves deeper into this style and finds something new and fun to explore.
That build up on the final take was boss. She killed that shit! Just wow.
Samus is just so kind and generous. Love you man!
Domino's performance was just mesmerizing ... and I really enjoyed your commentary!
As a huge Metroid fan, I've been following you for awhile as you popped up in my recommended years ago.
It has been fantastic getting to see you collaborate with Devin, evolve your own music, and now react to other musicians with such positivity
thank you so so much!!!!
She is AMAZING!!!! So modest for someone that kills it on the drums. I am her newest fan now!
Thing I love about watching reactions like yours bro is that drummers respect the craft so much they just get it when watching something like this. Domino is a beast! Infectious attitude!
honestly never heard of her before, she crushed it,love her use of ghost notes.
Yeah, I don't see too many comments about those ghosts she was using and I also loved that touch she added. The tom use and that build up was also great. She created a great version.
