@@geophil1699 I have zero interest in learning how to play any instrument and think these videos are amazing. I watch a decent amount of reaction videos to music that I like and I'm sure these videos are put together to tick all the right boxes to garner views from casuals like me.
It's just nice to see her have fun. Wish she wouldn't have put herself down like this because she did really well and I think having fun making music is the most important thing anyway
Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.
I was not expecting much from her going into the video, but holy crap she did amazing once she was given time to refine her ideas for the song. The fact that she got so many parts close to the original is nuts as well. Amazing.
Commenters here not realizing that she’s literally listening to a DRUMLESS TRACK. The fact that she got so close to the vibe is legit great. Love this.
It makes absolutely no sense that they play the song to us with drums at the start. I have to go looking for this track drumless to see what she's hearing.
For never having heard it before and being entirely different from what she normally plays, she did an excellent job. It's fantastic seeing people hear metal, listen with an open mind and allo themselves to enjoy the raw energy of it.
I think this series shows the best parts of being 'fluent in the language of music'. They never heard the song before, it is not their preferred genre - but then they played the breakdown section in a way I prefer over the actual recording, with that marching snare build-up. It is brilliant!
Yeah, that's why I "don't like" them apologizing before going into it. There is no need imo. Quite the opposite, people from somewhere else entirely just digging in and giving it a shot is awesome!
Yep, her drum kit is structured under simpler approach, but nevertheless she managed to do a lot with it. Massive drum kits are amazing but without a good drummer nothig extraordinary happens. on the contrary, a good drummer does not deppend on the drum kit to deliver a good performance.
At the very beginning, like as soon as she first hears the song, she did say "you're gonna need to install double right?" So she pretty much knew right away.
She’s a fantastic player, playing outside “her genre” and having fun and being vulnerable while doing so in front of a camera and massive audience takes guts. But She did a great job and was an even better sport about it all. She made a fan out of me and I’m sure many others.
Her attitude, man... her attitude is everything. She's having so much fun with it, and that's what makes it super cool, way more than the actual technical aspects of it. Way to go, girl.
I hate how musicians always tear themselves up. She completely rocked out and did amazing!! Her transitions were butter smooth, and her fills were creative and interesting! A fantastic drummer.
I haven't listened to Slipknot in forever. I had no idea who Domino was. I do not drum. I have no clue how this made it into my UA-cam feed. But this video made me incredibly happy to watch while sitting here working from home. Good work Drumeo! Great work Domino!
i HIGHLY recommend the Larnell Lewis is playing Metallica one to ya. He did indeed listen to the drums but attempts it to play in one take, after one time listening. - its awesome.
I am also thankful to the algorithm for recommending this! I love the idea and hope they do more! The only other one I can find where the drummer did not hear the drums before was the Tool track.
Watching her slowly fall in love with this song was one of the highlights of my month so far. Just the energy she starts to develop for the song, the bouncy drums, the power in each strike of her drumstick. She felt that. You can see the spirit of the music start to take over. Passion defies genre.
Thats why I love this type of videos. The real musicians appreciate all different kinds of music, because in any kind of music you can find something interesting and inspiring. If youre open to all kinds of music, you will enjoy being out of your comfort zone and develop yourself a lot by trying different things. Thats why its so cool to watch great metal drummers have fun playing jazz or pop, great pop or jazz drummers playing metal or punk and so on, all different kinds of combinations. And they usually do well and have fun since its all music after all. Getting out of single genre limitation really is a mind-opening experience and a way to discover so many great compositions and ideas. Highly recommend everyone, even to non-musicians, try to dig deeper into any style or genre that you consider boring or noisy and you will quickly realize how wrong and limited you were all this time before
It is amazing how metal can overload you with energy if you're opened to really appreciate it. The way she starts to allow the different style to sink in, you can see how she starts to change: the energy, her smile, her attitude... she allowed to become one with the song and that was amazing. She undersold her a bit by saying that she was so far off, but actually her take on the drumm lines was amazing! She put so much passion into it that you could feel the excitement. This was beautiful to watch. Almost like someone figuring out that is in love with someone else. Please keep these videos coming!
This was SUPER impressive to see how she took her interpretation of this. She was so close, and with a 4 piece kit with no double kick she nailed it. Bravo.
@@Hard_Labor_And_Fine_DiningListening back and forth now I like some of her parts better and I think hers actually flows better overall. I listen to everything from Carcass and Death to Billy Joel, and as much as I love double bass I think it was overused on the original track in a way that makes it sound more crowded than it needs to be. I like her accents more on the chorus too.
Not only she's solid and proficient, but most of all, she has a great ear, and when she was in the groove, she perfectly captured the emotional push and pull of the song. Great musician and a magnificent performance! She's way too hard on herself
This is so much cooler to me than top-tier drummers playing deeply rehearsed material: drummers learning in real time. This to me demonstrates so much more about the skills that make professional drummers who they are
A lot of musicians that play for aprox. Ten years do this, the thing is that certain musical skills are expected of certain musicians, like how drummers are expected to come up with something that fits quickly or how pianists are expected to be able to sight-read easily and intuitively
The thing is top-tier drummers are required to do this process for songs. Then they "rehearse deeply" the parts they came up with and perform them as best they can every night. It's easy as drummers to get carried away and play something on the top of their heads but for stability's sake in the performances they keep it grounded especially for complex music if not confusion can happen and you don't want to mess up a song for that. So you are right, but don't demerit top-tier drummers who do this process all the time behind the scenes
It really is incredible to see it in real time. There was another drummer on here, a black dude who figured out (IIRC) “Enter Sandman” and pretty much immediately nailed it. It was suuuuper cool to watch!
I am sure Joey Jordison is looking down from metal heaven and smiling with aprooval. Getting this close to the original track with just her intuition and a very basic kit is simply breathtaking.
The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them
Those kicks make the chorus, it’s that rare true harmony between drums and the rest of the band. Joey really nailed it on this whole song to be honest lol she did a great cover too!
yeah my first time and I totally dig the concept. Definintely a well thought out plan.....our 7-8 drinks in and..."Hey!!!! Why don't you listen to a song you've never heard before.......and no drums!!!!!!....................and then you guess what you think it is and then we watch you hearing the way the drums are........."
I’m not a drummer. Just a fan of music and drumming. I love this channel!!!! So interesting to watch professionals break down a song and then play their rendition. Amazing! Love them all for their own unique reasons.
These videos really go to show how important pattern memorisation/ recognition is. Learning the basics and keeping them as part of your practice regimen means that you can’t go too far wrong regardless of what’s thrown at you. Really great final take 👍🏻
I tell everybody who’ll listen, all you need to know is singles, doubles, and flams, everything else is just a combination! Music is a puzzle that you get to make the pieces for as you go along.
I can’t get enough of these videos, and I love the addition of seeing a drummer react to the actual track at the end. Domino was a phenomenal choice and she absolutely killed it. Applause all around.
Absolutely entertaining, educational and fun to watch. She's so out of her comfort zone and yet watching her find the grooves and things she likes is just wonderful. Exactly what makes this challenge so great.
I've always been a guitar guy, but this series has given me a whole new respect for drummers! How they can listen to a drumless track and come up with something so close to the original is almost like a super power! Absolutely amazing! I hope you guys keep going with this series, it is a first hand view into the process of a musician and their ability to come up with the music that we listen to and love!
I've always thought guitarists were cool but I also always found drummers technically more skilled than guitarists just because of the amount they have to do (hands and feet coordination)
Love how mortified she looked for a few seconds and then she just launched into it. Each take got so much better. She is a killer drummer, and I could see her absolutely tearing it up in a metal band.
As a non-musician.. this is such a cool thing to watch. Gahhhh we "mortals" are just so unaware of the talent that these artists have. It's like there's a language that they're aware of that we just aren't. Super cool & a very talented musician.
"Language" is a good way to describe it. I've been a drummer for 25 years, and I can tell you that learning to play fundamentally changes the way you hear music.
Even more than being "like" there's a language that exists - music IS a language that can be processed and understood! Just like with verbal languages, you connect sounds with meaning/intent, and with enough study/practice, you can build a vocabulary with your instrument that you can access the same way you would any other spoken language. Very cool! And the best thing is that literally anybody can do it - you just gotta put the time and work in, same as you would learning any other language!
yup, I cant even count how many times I listened to this song......hundreds for sure.....and have to say I really like the different approach......original is original but this certainly is great listening too
she definitely undersells herself a lot considering how close she got on most parts and how close she was to the general energy of the song in general. I love her track.
I have just now discovered Slipknot as a 53-year-old. I missed the whole thrash metal area and it makes me sad. I am so excited to discover this music is that I never would have considered. And I think there's so much more to it than anything else I have heard in my lifetime. It's completely taken me by hold and has got me by the soul
Watching how professional musicians attack and handle problems and make adjustments on the fly is so impressive. They're so intelligent and charismatic!!! This is such a great series. Thank you for putting it together, and thank you, drummers, for laying all on the line
Unbelievable. Her second playthrough, never having heard the full song, absolutely crushes it. Hits all the major fills, tracks all the time changes, even the half time at the bridge, and adds in some honestly incredible spice herself. Wild. Truly humbling.
She knew she was just lacking energy and she really brought it out on that last take and really went for it! Extremely musically talented….she crushed it!

Videos like this get me pumped. There’s something about watching the creative mind at work. Yeah, I literally only had two places where I went "Not quite my tempo", once during the bridge and once during the outro (I think). The bridge is just hard to improv and she staggered a TINY bit later on, but she was amazing. Going from pop to Slipknot is a tough challenge.
Really impressed. It was natural for her. she picked it up pretty easy!
yeah for real, it went pretty nice 👌🤔
I love Slipknot... and Domino is wonderful! She shows respect from the start, and this talented artist deserves nothing less in return. Joey would be proud!
Okay simp
God damn! She absolutely killed it! For not playing that type of music, she did great. Good on her!
This is the best genre of drumeo videos. Keep them coming!
This is almost an insult to all the great drum lessons they did over the years :D But I agree that these videos here are very entertaining!

I almost feel bad seeing the look on her face when she finally heard joey jordinson's part after having so much fun playing her own.
It's just nice to see her have fun. Wish she wouldn't have put herself down like this because she did really well and I think having fun making music is the most important thing anyway
This is insanely impressive. People with this kind of musical talent are crazy to me.
It's not that hard. You only need thousands of hours, then more thousands of hours.
Bit hard to provide Slipknot because Joey Jordison is just like a machine gun permanently on the double pedals 😂
This is not talent LoL. This is tons of hard work: learn, practice and polish.
@@NKN82 I think you're splitting hairs for arguments sake here... All of those things you mentioned are needed to have talent.
We are not alone...😮
6:43 I'm not a drummer, or a musician, or anything really... but this moment, every time she plays it, really speaks to me!
Joey was a world class, amazing drummer. She's sitting there with pretty much a basic kit and managed to do a fantastic job. You could tell she could really feel it, even if her spin on it was different. This was awesome.
You could see the exact moment she started to feel it and just laid into it with confidence.
Felt it. You did great!
i think she had a little bit too much fun, not angry enough.
thats far from a basic kit dude
Garbage music doesn't require an enormous amount of talent to replicate. Ask cover bands that handle The Beatles or Third Eye Blind
As a Slipknot fan I am now also a Domino fan. That was solid.
The bridge was amazing

I am a huge fan of slipknot and have been since 1999 and I'm a drummer I gotta say I'm really impressed with your interpretation of that song.
Love this.
I feel like they should play us the drumless track too, or st least dip in and oit of it to remind us. I think they do in some of the others.
@@ianmagin8122 they do in some of the newer videos. Hoping they post more. This type of stuff is awesome!
It makes absolutely no sense that they play the song to us with drums at the start. I have to go looking for this track drumless to see what she's hearing.
she talking about the double pedals at 1.00 and apologizing to the slipknot fans at 2.00
not downplaying her talent and obvious skills but the guitars in this song are literally the drums
Not sure if I can believe that the first go was stumbly and the second go was so damn good, but... overall she did a great job.
Yeah, that's why I "don't like" them apologizing before going into it. There is no need imo. Quite the opposite, people from somewhere else entirely just digging in and giving it a shot is awesome!
Not to mention a big portion of slipknot percussion is clown beating a trash can with a baseball bat

That build up was beautiful.

TOTALLY! I listened to it 2 more times just for that part!
She’s playing a song that requires a massive kit with two toms… and she did a killer job!
Yeah she killed it
And not to mention a double kick lol
Slipknot’s drummer has more than two
Yep, her drum kit is structured under simpler approach, but nevertheless she managed to do a lot with it.
She did way, way better improvising with one pedal than I could've done with two lmao

She surprised me how well she improvised then came up with a solid part even without a double kick pedal.
She's heard this before. She played the same goddamn fills. Give me a break .
She did a great job. No one expected her to play it like the original.
"I had this... kinda ok." No, Domino, you had this kinda f'n phenomenal. This was nuts to listen to and watch. Such a talented drummer!

I hate how musicians always tear themselves up. She completely rocked out and did amazing!! Her transitions were butter smooth, and her fills were creative and interesting! A fantastic drummer.
i really pinpointed the moment she got it ... the spark of Metal music playing FUN !!! she was also having fun which makes this enjoyable asf TY
'Working from home' eh
I am also thankful to the algorithm for recommending this! I love the idea and hope they do more!
The only other one I can find where the drummer did not hear the drums before was the Tool track.
Incredible tbh
fucking same 🤘🤘🤘
Watching her slowly fall in love with this song was one of the highlights of my month so far. Just the energy she starts to develop for the song, the bouncy drums, the power in each strike of her drumstick. She felt that. You can see the spirit of the music start to take over. Passion defies genre.
I adore this comment.
Highly recommend everyone, even to non-musicians, try to dig deeper into any style or genre that you consider boring or noisy and you will quickly realize how wrong and limited you were all this time before
Yeah, by the third take she was fully immersed in it, really a cool process to watch unfold.
I was thinking the same thing when she started grimacing as she was playing. I was like.... METAL!!
Bravo.
Is it bad to say I kinds think her version is better?
@@Hard_Labor_And_Fine_DiningListening back and forth now I like some of her parts better and I think hers actually flows better overall. I listen to everything from Carcass and Death to Billy Joel, and as much as I love double bass I think it was overused on the original track in a way that makes it sound more crowded than it needs to be. I like her accents more on the chorus too.
They were going to toss a double kick on, I wonder why they ditched it

Not only she's solid and proficient, but most of all, she has a great ear, and when she was in the groove, she perfectly captured the emotional push and pull of the song. Great musician and a magnificent performance! She's way too hard on herself
Her bass drum game is no joke. All with one pedal! Respect.

it was dope.
Love the tom work in the intro / post-chorus riff too.

The fact that she got those lone kicks right during the chorus is a huge testament to both her ability and the overall quality of the song. It just DEMANDS those kicks and she gave them

As a drummer, I appreciate it. But humbly, we are just *really* good at counting to four.
Same. I can't stop watching these.
I'm right there too, these are awesome. Well said.
What if I told you that you can learn to play like this instead of being a mere "mortal" and attributing all the hard work to talent.
@@mojolito well put.
@@mojolitoagreed, it's reductive to say it's talent. It's hard work and anyone can do it.
