- We explain, configure and install the Dell Ultra Speed Drive Quad NVMe M2 Disk PCIe Adapter using Windows Storage Spaces
This Dell PCIe x16 NVMe adapter can host up to 4x NVMe M.2 solid state drives, providing super fast I/O of up to 9GB/s sequential read and 6GB/s sequential write speeds. This product is natively supported by recent generations of Dell Precision workstations (T5810/5820, T7810/7820, T7910/7920, and R7910/7920). Other systems with PCIe bifurcation support will need to change the BIOS settings for enabling PCIe 3.0 x16 bifurcation (x4x4x4x4). - Наука та технологія
Thanks for this. Got my 4x512GB installed today and aside from a couple of necessary reboots that I didn't expect, it went very smoothly on a PW7910.
Wheres the speed test ??!
Hi,
What is maximum size per each M.2 drive the card support? 2TB, 4TB, 8TB ?
So is that JBOD or raid-0 ?
Hello, I'm considering getting the T7920 with the adapter you discussed in this video. Unlike you, I would like to use them to boot Windows and RAID them either 1 (striping, as you did) or 10. As for the drives, I'm considering Samsung 2TB, but I'm not sure of the model. I'd love to read or hear about your recommendations on both issues. Thank you.
Is this supported by any Linux distros? The Dell's are supposed to support RHEL I believe, but is there a driver for that?
This card works on almost every pc that has a PCIe slot, I used this on my previous T5810, then on a T3620, and now it's on my Alienware R10.
Any trick to getting it to see all the nvme? I have the 2 slot version and put 2 new Samsun EVO 970's in and it only sees one. I guess there's something in the BIOS or maybe its in the wrong pcie slot
@@SchofieldBrothersRacing I bet your bios has to support Bifurcation or splitting of the PCIe slot into x4 lanes. Look in your bios under bifurcation or maybe Raid settings for the pcie slots.
@@Physics072 the card was bad. I got another one and it worked fine.
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks
Good day, will this work in servers R540 or R740?
Hi he works in t5810?
will it work with twin 2TB 970 evos in a T3610? Im using a single NVME startech card in slot 1 (8x 25 watt) of the dell. Works fine but wanted to add one more NVME was not sure if this would work.
I have a Dell T7820 with the dual card and twin 1tb M.2. how do i set it up as a boot drive?
I can make RAID in IDRAC on this board ?
good day! Such a good video! Just purchased a 7920, may I ask what would be the maximum storage capacity for 1 slot of nvme? would 4*2TB possible?
Yes, I have 4*2TB 980 Pro's installed on it in RAID 0 (RAID on NVME requires the intel VROC key). Works perfectly. I think it can do more than 2TB drives.
why do you need vroc for nvme raid can you just use software raid 0@@Ubuntu_1
the real question to answer, after you RAID-0 them, if you get the combined speed of the drives. I.e., 2 drives in RAID-0 can theoretically be double the throughput speed, however, since you're using a software RAID, I'm not sure you get that benefit and/or if the Dell adapter supports that.
Can you configure these in BIOS as a RAID-0 volume and load Windows (or another OS) on them? Thanks.
have you try?
Given the fact that this is an old video I m going to give it a shot. Does this card have an embedded raid controller (by the look of it it doesnt seem like it is possible) or is it a plain hba / jbod controller.
Hi Dimitris; The card does not have embedded RAID controller. We no longer have access to this unit, but there are very few people that have contacted us saying they had problems. Let us know how it works for you.
@@URTechDotCa Thank you for the response first of all. I dont have the card at the moment, just keeping info in order to see if this card would have a use case scenario for me. What kind problems others had? Recognizing the card itself? The NVme drives inside the card? .. or something else?
Hi . Do I need to install a special driver for this device in windows?
No just make sure to install the card in a x16 PCIe slot that also supports bifurcation.
how about a Dell Optiplex 780 sff? I would like to go with internal ssd card.
Have you tried yet?
It should work for sure.
will this work in a t5400?
It should!
I popped mine into my T7920 and it failed to show any of the M2 NVME drives :(
Did you update the BIOS?
Hi ! Works with t3610 ?
Hi Smaranda; It should work with a T3610
@@URTechDotCa thank you !
How the hell does a 'dumb' card cost $180? For that price, I'd expect an on-board chip dedicated to the PCI-E bifurcation function. This is just a circuit board, small power supply, fan, and a few connectors. Freaking Dell. :(
Exactly! Broad daylight ripoff
