There is a common workaround for this and many vidz about it. You use a simple software called "clover" and make it boot from a USB drive, then from there it will recognize the NVME and you can boot windows from there. It's one extra step and you have to permanently install a USB drive (usually internally, ideally), but it can be done and works well.
Im trying to install my Samsung SSD 980 NVMe M.2 SSD (adapted) in a PCI-e Card. About to try this same Crazy Upgrade cause if it Works,,, it should be faster than the SSD i currently have running on SATA? But what about a Bios Update for my DELL Optiplex 790 with an i3 ? Can you shoot me the steps? Dell website has this (((This is the latest Dell validated version of this driver O790-A22.exe | 5.58 MB)))
Format the M.2NVMe in device manager, power down computer, disconnect c:drive and then try installing a fresh copy of windows into the Pci e M.2 try to see if that works.

Woah I didn't know that was possible. Sounds messy and maybe a good way to eventually somehow accidentally corrupt an OS. So you'd have GRUB on an older drive, which then boots to windows on the new NVMe drive?

if you have driver pcienvme express ,you can use it for windows bootable. if not,you still can use it with clover usb stick. but old motherboard havent this features/driver. and than i think pcie gen3 slot max x16 speed nvme its only 3,4Gbps R/W
It should if you install a fresh load of windows to it using that computer. If not, HP had Samsung produce a series of M.2 NVME's for their mini desktops. One of those should work fine.
@AJaytheCEO can you make a video showing how to copy or migrate os to a ssd I’ve been trying to find videos about it but I recently got a ssd and in my computer I have os on a hdd and I am getting into computers but I don’t know how to migrate the os from hdd to ssd please help thanks.
bro, Ive been considering the same upgrade to a dell 9020 optiplex..It can be done but requires using a different bootmanager that will recognize the nvme drive..example would be to use Clover which Will recognize nvme...I have both windows 10 and mac catalina on my dell...so I use clover anyway and boot from there... should work fine on a hackentosh build and I dont see why windows would not show and boot from clover on nvme..
@@AJaytheCEO dId you ever try clover? thinking of buying an nvme and pcie adapter and trying to use clover to see if I can figure it out. will mainly try to use Linux. I'm having trouble getting Windows to boot from it when I try to run NVME off of Clover it shows a black screen. How can I fix this?
you can make the nvme bootable using clover boot manager!
It should work. The drive is un allocated and needs formatting. Format it as NTFS file system.
also need to be GPT and not MBR.. very important

That should work as bootable too. You need to change some settings
nice support
Leave a USB DOM to make a 2 stage bootloader.. the BIOS loads first bootloader (grub2, refind) then chainload the windows boot manager from there

@@MsHojat yes.. I have done that to to boot a VM into unsupported bootable media (a lot of VM doesn't support USB booting)
Modify Bios files and add NVME drivers to it so you can boot from nvme
I’m sure if you unplug the sata ssd and pull up the windows installer it would probably show up as an installable drive
Need to upgrade the firm ware if availalble...
We can boot using EasyBCD
very informative , thank you
Glad it was helpful!
With clover + clean install of win 10 is the only way to do @ this point.
Yeah sad but true
Bro why don't you allocate the drive first and see it again. It might just work.
did you attempt to change boot mode to UEFI?
I didn't remember if I did or didn't
Have you tried updating your bios?
I was on the latest BIOS version

Can I use Samsung Magician to update the firmware of a 980 pro with a setup like this?
I believe so
I want to do this upgrade on my Dell T7500, how to do this
Get an NVME PCIe adapter card that will fir inside your system with whatever size drive you want and it should work
It doesn't look initialised , Take out other drive .format and reinstall OS , Problem solved
You ned to modify the bios in service mode similar to ua-cam.com/video/VtZpnRv_-lA/v-deo.html

Can we use pcie adapter in laptop for upgrading if slot is not available for m2 port
I'm not sure as I haven't tested that
Did it work?
Would this work as an extra storage space like an external?
Yes it would
The Bios must be updated with one modified with codes so that it can see the NVME at boot time
update bios !?

You have to mod the BIOS.
Not going to get the speed out of it either, it's not going to be any faster than the sata SSD drive.

if not slot for NVMe disk then not efi/bios dupport, so use adapter NVMe M.2 to sata, first you maximum RAM extend.

it is possible, but very complicated. just use sata ssd
