Im 40 and using tret for anti aging and my skin is amazing. I love this product. Its replaced every single anti aging product I’ve ever bought from expensive brands. There are 2 tips I’d like to share. 1. I apply my .025% tret over freshly cleansed DAMP skin. It spreads better that way and it’ll be absorbed better. I noticed better results applying tret to damp skin. 2. I do not cleanse my face in the morning. I’ll splash water and wash my face real quick with water only, and this step dramatically improved my skin barrier health. The oils skin releases over night are protective and not cleansing them off every day has dramatically improved my complexion and how good my skin looks and feels. It feels younger, thicker and bouncier. I basically cleanse my skin once a day and that’s at night before I apply tret. Most nights I don’t even moisturize since my tret % is so low. It’s not drying for me, it’s just right ❤
It's great that works for you but I've seen several derms who say it's best to apply retinoids to dry skin due to the retinoid possibly causing irritation due to being absorbed deeper when damp.
I've had same results doing that routine! I'm 71 and have worked up to 1% in 3yrs. People tell me my skin looks amazing although I def have deep crows feet and forehead furrows😭🤣
@@kcloveonaleash that’s great! 😃 I’ve been at .025% since June 2023, and I’m comfortable here for now. Definitely looking forward to upping my %. My biggest issue is some malasma on top of my forehead. Hormonal shifts with having a baby did some minor damage to my skin despite wearing sunblock religiously every day. I’ve also incorporated black castor oil which I put on every so often, and it adds a certain glow and bounce to the skin. 😊
I think it’s important to listen to your Skin - not everyone is a good candidate for Tret - if you have done all the barrier supporting things whilst using it and it still doesn’t work for you - it might be worth trying adapaline or using an over-the-counter retinal I just don’t like this notion of you’re gonna age awfully if you don’t use Tret - if you keep destroying your skin barrier and irritating your skin consistently that’s going to age you - so it’s a balance
Yes, I tried under my dermatologist and actually got a rash on other parts of my body. I showed him and he was like "no more for you", but I was able to tolerate two courses of Accutane for cystic acne when I was younger.
Sure wished my dermatologist was as helpful as you. So been using this product incorrectly. Thanks for your information. Now I know how to use & what to expect
OMG love you, love the red outfit, love the new backdrop, love the insta shout outs! Love everything ❤ and especially love the content. 1 petrified 46 yr old menopausal women looking start tret after diligently climbing retinal ladder. Amazing real tips 🎉
Just a suggestion but I used Rosehip oil. People use it for stretch marks as well. I don't know the science of it. I only know it works like exfoliation (but gentler) so it sloughs off the top layer and makes everything uniform and I guess new skin layers can regenerate better. Seems to help with vascular stuff too. Stimulating blood flow and circulation which helps healing, I'm not 100% that it isn't just the massage action, although I've used other oils that don't seem to generate the same results
This is encouraging. I want to start tretinoin after my 2nd baby is here and my skin becomes its usual greaseball self again. 😅😅 I’ve really benefitted from incorporating AHA since my mid twenties and similarly noticed that that stuff is POWERFUL. The best results came when I was able to grasp the slow and low use in the beginning before my skin got more used to it and I could use it a little more often. This is how I plan to use tretinoin as well, patiently. 😊
I use Differin, I used to have acne prone skin as a teen but now I have more dry skin with the odd breakout and clogged pore, I find that my skin is able to tolerate this well rather than Tretinoin.
I alternate I use tretinion one night and use another routine the other night. I use Agency and it is a little expensive for me so using every other day helps it last longer.
Thank you so much, it was watching your earlier videos that started me on my retinol journey, and although I use over the counter retinal/retinol products, not tretinoin (live in UK) the positive changes in my skin have been amazing! Thank you very much!
I have found that using Estée Lauder advanced night repair under neath the Tretinoin and then applying over it has helped me reduce dryness but everyone’s skin is different I wouldn’t recommend for oily skin
See her video, best anti-aging ingredient since retinoids. Some derms are fine layering peptides with retinoids (usually the retinoid first and then peptides) and some do in the morning and some do every other night.
I have used my prescription tretinoin every night for 6 months now :) I was recently prescribed Hydroquinone 4% for my malasma. Should tretinoin be applied as my first step after cleansing, and then Hydroquinone ? Does the order matter? Thank you 😊
So, tret mixes on subscribing websites such as Curology and Musely are not the way to go? Also, I like to check every product on the Yuka app these days for bad ingredients. I’d like to get the Inkey moisturizer, but it contains phenoxyethanol which I’m trying to avoid. It is a preservative used in so many skincare products. Do you have videos and product suggestions for non-toxin skincare and makeup?
what about the obagi nu derm system ? the instructions are to always use the clear first and follow with the tret mixed with the blender , I have being using it for over 8 years this way , I am 66 and it is a great for my skin.
What if you don’t have side affects from using an active with retinol at night? Is that still alright? I’ve been using Niacinamide and lactic acid and retinol last in my routine at night.
I love your channel! Would you kindly address purpura? I've just been diagnosed with this condition and it's sooooo frustrating and unsightly! Thank you!
A crucial skincare tip often overlooked in videos: avoid waxing your face when using products containing tretinoin, retinol, or other exfoliating agents that cause skin peeling. You'll actually get a layer of your skin peeled off with waxing, and trust me, it looks horrible.
I’m using Paula’s choice and i’m experiencing purging at the moment but just on my chin and i’ve noticed i have a lot of small closed bumbs in there. So i was thinking it will take time to be cleared up. I’m patiently waiting for the clear skin after.
Good morning… I just purchased the Remedy for Dark Spots and For Aging month ago. Would you not suggest how I am using it? I first use my Tretinoin 0.1% and a moisturizer then I will wait an hour or so and and apply one of the REMEDY‘s and then more lotion after it dries. Which is my pm routine
Dr. What do you think about products that contain retinol in conjunction with other active ingredients, such as Dr. Shaw's products, Renedis for dark spots, for example?
Yes! I commented on another dermatologist's video about them mixing retinol and glycolic acid together even though I always see it recommended against. The people are responding with 'just use moisturizer' as if that will save you from bad ingredient reactions.
Can I use niacinamid or vitamins c on those alternate days when I am not using tretinion...like I am using tretinion once a week..so other 6days can I use othe actives?
i'm confused on what you said at the 5th mistake, Niacinamide (for example) has anti-inflammatory properties and regulates oil production so it can help some purging side-effects while on Tretinoin. I understand for the first few months not using it but after your skin has gotten used to the retinoid it is more safe to incorporate other ingredients back into the routine. Along with helping the purge Niacinamide also has anti-aging benefits and helps with acne so it can increase the effectiveness of Tretinoin. I understand this is not the case for everyone some might find incorporating something like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide into their routine while on Tretinoin very irritating which is completely understandable but alot might find the exact opposite so saying u should never do this raised questions in me. This is only a question, you are the dermatologist i am not and I'm asking because I would like to be educated from a reliable source.
Yes, I dot them all over and I find that if I don't quickly rub them together, it's tough to get them everywhere. My skin absorbs the cream very quickly (I guess) or I just have a big face. 😂 Thanks all for the tips.
I know to avoid irritation you should apply a pea-sized amount on dry skin. I wonder which is more important, because altering one of them would help get it evenly. A larger amount on dry skin might spread more, but a pea-sized amount on damp skin after moisturiser would also spread easier. I would probably go for the latter method and use it over a moisturiser to help it spread.
I started my intense consistent skincare routine only 3+ years ago when I a significant breakout of malasma in peri menopause at 50 years plus religiously sunbathing under the hot damaging Aussie sun. I started with super sensitive skin introducing skincare actives until my skin barrier got stronger eg starting with low strength A, C PHA/Lactic acid/ Glycolic acids etc.. How I started my tretinoin journey of 0.01% was sandwiching btw moisturisers & only intermittently applying it for 10 mins 1st nite then cleansing & adding skincare barrier supportive products. I increased this routine by an additional 10 - 15 mins per nite for 2 weeks to acclimate my skin & never had any problems. I hope this routine helps others starting on their tretinoin journey & thank you for another awesome video 🙏💗🤗
