  • These step-by-step instructions and video detail how to replace the tail light bulbs on a 2014 Ford Focus SE, and the replacement steps will be similar to 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 Ford Focus models. Replacing a burned out or failing taillight bulb helps you see clearly, follow road laws, and lets other drivers know of your vehicle’s presence on the road. If your Focus’s tail light bulbs are burned out or malfunctioning, you should replace both tail light bulbs together since they will likely fail at around the same time. O’Reilly Auto Parts carries headlight bulbs, tail light bulbs, and other exterior light bulbs for your Ford Focus to help you make your repairs.

The taillights on your Ford Focus help you be seen in poor weather or darkness, and are required by law to work properly. Changing a dim, flickering, or burned out tail light bulb on your 2011-2018 Ford Focus is a simple repair that can help you see better while driving. It’s recommended that when changing one tail light bulb, the other should be replaced as well, since both bulbs have been used for the same amount of time and will likely fail around the same age. Failing taillight bulbs on your Ford Focus can make it difficult for other drivers to see your vehicle on the road, and could put you and others in danger. Our detailed instructions can help you perform a taillight bulb replacement on your Ford Focus to keep you safe on the road. Open your trunk… and locate the panel on the back side of your tail light assembly.
This panel can be removed by simply pulling out to disengage the tabs.
The assembly is held in place by two plastic wingnuts that can be removed by turning them
    counterclockwise.
Pull directly out on the assembly toward the side of the vehicle to release it.
Remove it carefully… the bulbs will still be connected by wires to the vehicle.
Turn each bulb counterclockwise… and pull gently to remove them from the assembly.
Lower the bulbs carefully… and set the assembly aside.
Pull out gently on the bulb that needs replacement to remove it from its socket.
Slide your new bulb into place in its socket.
Lift the assembly back into place… and turn the bulbs clockwise into the housing to secure them.
Align the tab on the assembly… and press it back into place.
Fasten it from the inside by replacing the two plastic wingnuts, turning them clockwise.
    Snap the panel back in.
To replace the bulb behind the lens on the trunk, turn the plastic wingnut counterclockwise to remove
    it.
Then push out on the lens from the inside to disengage it.
Turn the bulb counterclockwise… carefully pull the bulb out of the back… and set the lens aside.
Pull out gently on the bulb to remove it… and push your replacement bulb into place in the socket.

Thank you for this step by step video about this issue of changing the brake bulb on a 2014 Ford Focus. This video was the only only that not only showed exactly what and where you were at on the inside of the trunk, but, you did a very excellent job of explaining specific to the make and model itself.

The wing nuts have a slot in the middle so you can use a flat head if they're too tight

The one I have does not look like that inside. It has a black piece blocking it so I can’t take the light out.

Is there an easier way to unscrew the plastic wing nuts? They’re so tight on I tried counterclockwise and it’s not budging at all :(

I just did it myself 10 minutes ago they're tight at first but if you put some arm into it they should move they shouldn't be on there that site that you can't

You can use a flat head in the middle of wing nut. They have a slot to do so

You can tell by the color and where the bulb sits on the fixture. I just bought mine 10 mins ago, the clear was for my brake

If you change them in pairs won’t they go out at the same time? Wouldn’t that mean you’re more likely to get pulled over? Genuinely curious.

No , one is a turn signal bulb and one is the brake. You brake more so you can assume the brake light will go first.

Anyone know what the second bulb he replaces even does? The one on the trunk?

    • @patrickharrington9394
      @patrickharrington9394 2 роки тому

He replaced a clear single filament backup light, a red double-filament tail light, and a red single filament (pretty sure) brake light. The one on the trunk would have been the Focus' center brake light.

Change all the new incandescent bulbs in the garbage, and replace with better option. Sylvania zevo. Much better option than the brand new incandescent bulb replacement.

Notice how they didnt recommend LEDs for the left and right tail lights, but only for the center trunk light they did. Probably for Northern drivers that encounter snow is best to leave the incandescent bulbs in to melt snow.

Stepping on a brake pedal for a few secs and/or minutes sporadically isn't gonna de-ice your lights... How about getting out and wiping them off. I get the incandescent heat thing... But, IMO for whatever little time one is on brake pedal, ain't gonna amount to a hill of beans. A brake bulb is so low wattage anyway and plastic lens thick.

@@bthamus8334 usually during night your tail lights and headlights are on and within the same housing thus melting it then.
