Handy tip: Recommend using a 21mm or 22mm wheel brace/wrench, it fits snuggly around wing nut giving good leverage to release from stick point then unscrew with hand.
Using flat-head screwdriver with that shallow recess or even pliers against wings can begin the damaging process.
Actually think this is a good design for maintenance, just remove a couple of wing nuts to release the whole cluster.
Can then take inside for cleanup and replace bulb(s) and return to re-install.
Similar operation for headlights, unscrew a few threaded fastening positions and pull out to reveal bulb access positions, skin remains unscathed.

Word of advice: wear gloves while doing this. Not very thick ones, thinner the better, but enough to protect you from a minor cut. I got scratches on a few places on my hands, beware the metal in the area where the plastic screws are is very sharp
