His groundbreaking work has led to the development of more than 30 new medical treatments, and impacts care for more than 70 diseases including cancer, diabetes, blindness, heart disease, and obesity.
His TED Talk, “Can We Eat to Starve Cancer?” has garnered more than 11 million views. Dr. Li has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, CNBC and the Dr. Oz Show, and he has been featured in USA Today, Time Magazine, The Atlantic, and O Magazine. Mary Shenouda is a highly sought-after performance chef and specialist. Her clients include both professional athletes and Hollywood entertainers. Mary is also the creator and founder of Phat Fudge, a high-performance food line of her own formulation.
After almost two decades of suffering from debilitating “mystery” illnesses that doctors seemed unable to explain and prescription drugs failed to solve, Mary took matters into her own hands. Devoting years of dogged, personal research into the foods she was putting into her body, Mary decided to change the way she ate and was able to reverse her condition within months. This new lease on life would lead her to abandon a career in tech and start a performance-focused private chef and consulting practice. Working with a team of nutritionists, doctors, physical therapists, and performance technologies, Mary is able to identify and curate specific nutritional needs for a diverse roster of high-performing clients.
Dr. Wahls is an Institute for Functional Medicine certified practitioner and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Wahls was awarded the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Linus Pauling Award in 2018 for her contributions to research, clinical care, and patient advocacy. She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles and the cookbook The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life. She has conducted several clinical trials, coauthored 24 scientific publications, and is pioneering a way to make her protocol more accessible by making it available online to the public.
William S. Harris, PhD, FASN, has been a leading researcher in the omega-3 fatty acid field for 40 years. He has over 300 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, has been on the faculty of three medical schools, and received 5 NIH grants to study omega-3. He co-authored three AHA statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index (and other omega-3 blood tests) and founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on the impact of his research.

Great info! Thanks! I love cooking healthy foods. Just made a meal with: wild Alaskan Sockeye salmon, 1oz chicken liver, tempeh, portobello mushrooms, fermented okra, red bell pepper, jalapeño, parsley, cilantro, fresh garlic, fresh oregano, fresh thyme, fresh ginger, green onions, red onions, kelp powder, nori, olive oil, black cumin, turmeric, real salt, potassium chloride, black garlic powder, garlic powder, fresh ground black pepper and yellow cherry tomatoes with a cup of oolong, hibiscus tea. I'll have another 6 oz cup of organic coffee with Swedish Heather honey. My next meal will be chicken, sweet potatoes, beets and yogurt with a little whey. Tomorrow I'll have black bean and lentil chili with ground turkey and a ton of fresh herbs and spices, yogurt ferments.... Then on Tuesday I will fast! I've been doing this for decades. I'm 64 and feel great.

Wonderful interview Thank you for helping to get information out that we can actually take action on. Dr. William Li always shares actionalbe information instead of just trying to sell books. He gives so much information that you could skip the book if you wanted to but I still got his books because I want to know more.

great podder, this. Adding to my list for health/nutrition.
Listening to Dr. Whals really hit home as I grew up in No. IL since the early 60s. Watching the disappearance of family farms, then the insects and birds as well as the rich black soil turn to brown dirt has been/is devastating. Anyone who was a farmer or nerd, probably heard the WGN ag. reports every day, and the endless adverts for round-up and round-up ready seed "for greater yeilds!". Guh. Thank you Earl Butz, et al.

In my experience, MOST (not all) doctors know almost nothing about nutrition, food as medicine or metabolic biochemistry. Until that changes, progress in eliminating chronic diseases will be slow.

Some people warn vs. spinach and beets, the common sense answere is don't overdo it. Balance in all thngs. If you stay reasonably hydrated and in particular consume some of the foods he talks about (like broccoli stems included and especially the sprouts) garlic, onions, cabbage/sauerkraut you'll be fine. Look up the "chelation" agents they clear out accumulations you don't want).

I rotate protocols so sometimes I go as oxalates free as possible but many therapeutic spices and herbs have contain oxalates - so I “spend my ixalate allowance” on those valuable healing herbs, seeds and spices.
That said I also really like drops of black seed oil in cool spring water. Yum! The one I ‘m using now is VedaOne Kalonji Oil.
I use other black seed oil topically.
I’m working my way up to a fast.
