Good video mate I think mines gona need changed soon and dnt know weather to get a garage to do it or do it myself. I'm alright at doing bits nd bobs on my cars but have never done a gearbox
I'm the same as you pal, this is the biggest job on a car to date I've ever attempted but with lots of research and a butt load of confidence I gave it a go and cost me a fraction of the price, good look in your decision 😎
What was wrong with the one you were using? Mine jerks when accelerating or decelerating past 10 rpm or when I shift between drive and neutral. What could be causing this?
Mine had a loose shaft baring in forth and sixth gear making a noise, actually didn't affect the car driving experience but knew eventually it could get worse and brake, so I replaced it for a new one, unsure what is wrong with yours but I would definitely replace it if it's jerking
Are there any seals that need to be replaced when re installing the gearbox? I’m about to replace the clutch slave and want to make sure I have everything before I start.
Im helping my buddy with his transmission he upgraded his clutch we got the transmission on and have a few bolts in but for some reason we have a 1/4 inch gap all the way around and cant get it flush with the motor
Aw mate, sorry to here that, these cars are very common in the uk and share the same box as many Audis so quite common in scrap yards like I found mine, hope yours is now all fixed 🙏
@@lunchboxjoeb do the US gti’s have the 2.0l turbo or a 2.5l turbo? Hear mixed information and never know what steps you have in the US, never seem to see the gti stop tartan seats or leather seats on videos?
@@lunchboxjoeb yea mate, quite possible, we’ll good look with the swap, there are hopefully some good tip and views in my video that might help with the swap, definitely a second pair of hands when actually removing the old one and putting the new one in

No mate no seals as it's a dry part, all the oils are sealed in the actual gear box itself where as the clutch housing doesn't have oil of any kind
What are the bell housing to motor torque specs

Can I assume you've bought the correct clutch for the right vehicle? When I did mine it eventually all sat flush......
60 pounds for the whole gear box?! i just spent $600 usd 😢😢😥😥
