We traded our 2021 Y AWD for a 2024 Y AWD and immediately noticed some differences. Pro's: 1, Much quieter, less road noise. 2, Cameras are have much sharper images, 3, Seats are more bolstered / soft. 4, Overall, rIde is much softer. 5, Fit and finish far better. 6, Far superior screen and display updates much quicker. 7, Rear cargo cover. Cons, 1, Doesn't feel as fast off the line as 2021, even with boost upgrade it takes more pedal to get it moving, but once it kicks in, it's insanely fast. 2, Sound quality / fidelity much better in the 2021 - very disappointing; compared with other 2024's and they're the same. 3, High speed cornering and handling not as good in 2024. 4, Front seats are so bolstered they cause my legs to fall asleep on long drives, I have to add a pillow to sit to keep this from happening - never an issue on the 2021. 5, By far, the 2021 with ultrasonic sensors did a MUCH better job of accurately displaying close objects around the vehicle, the 2024 vision only is not very accurate and actually rarely accurate or useful. Overall, it's a trade off, but the improvements in overall vehicle ride quality, fit and finish and electronics, heavy end of quarter discounts and $7500 Fed incentive made it worth trading up to 2024. ,
I still use the ultrasonic sensors on my 2022, but I have to say that with the latest update the vision became quite impressive. The downgrade in audio quality is surprising and a BIG disappointment. The sound system on my 2022 is one of the great features of the car. I have also noticed that my Long Range feels slow off the line despite the software acceleration package. I have always wondered if this is a BS software dumbing on purpose to give more reason to buy the Performance model. Or maybe it is the fact that I have the safety feature turned on that limits acceleration if the car thinks you are in a space-limited environment?
@@bsd107 I took my 2024 in for service for the lack of instant acceleration compared to my 2021.. They say it is normal, but I still wasn't happy, so I tested the 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile specs. It met acceleration spec's, so the small lag off the line is 100% software. I wish when I upgraded to the performance boost they would have allowed it to have more "punch" off the line. Maybe it was for safety / neck injuries? The 24 model pulls really hard, once the pedal reaches a certain point, it's definitely not the instant quick linear acceleration from a start like it was in the past.
Wow, impressed with how detailed you found out the differences. I traded in my 2022 Y with a 2024 7 seater. Getting it with the tax incentive and the 0.99% apr made it worth upgrading financially and for all the improvements you mentioned.
traded my 2018 lexus rx350 for the LR Y RWD, took advantage of tax credit, FSD transfer, and free 3 months super charge. all is good and wife is super happy
Wanted to wait but needed a new car asap. Incredible deals on inventory models. I would’ve liked improved suspension and ventilated seats but buying in 2024 has worked out well for us.
We own a 2021 and just purchased a 2024 model Friday. Ride quality is way better on 2024 than 2021. I don’t believe ride quality of an X is significantly better than a Y, although I get the adaptive suspension part as we had one for a week, we just didn’t like it . Model Y is undeniably a very versatile car and we love it.
16:31 sorry when you say it’s the same thing for rear windows, did you mean they are still single pane like the 2021? Or double like the front doors? Thanks
Thanks for uploading this video I been looking for a video just like this for weeks. Excited to pick up my new Tesla model Y in 2 days. You earned yourself a sub 👏🏾
The selling point of the Tesla: energy source: properly care and manage for for the batteries so you don’t place unnecessary stress to the batteries, the car can possibly last for 30 years provided regular maintenance that could be done DIY. Another great selling point: the teslacams. No other car provides 360 degree camera coverage, including cabin. This doesn’t even include autopilot/self-driving capabilities, and that is going to keep improving with future updates, along with other features like summon (there should be a super summon so you can send your car to pick you up from within a 30 mile radius), provided the full self driving capabilities have been perfected and using it reaches 100% safety.
i'm more than willing to not just wait for the Juniper to come out, i'm willing to even wait a few months AFTER its release. Tesla has a habit of lowering the price of its EVs during end of quarter periods to reach those sales numbers. why not take advantage of that?
Great video. Just bought one back in May and I love it. The time was right and I didn't want to wait until the end of the year or a bit longer. Just wish the insurance wasn't so expensive. Living in So. Cal is most of the problem.
Last night I went and got a quote with Tesla insurance through the app (it was easy) and it was $900 a year less than my current one (Mercury). Haven't changed yet but much better.
Awesome work Chris…watch all you stuff. I have a ‘22 MY and MIGHT upgrade to the Juniper performance. BUT, I really want to see some type of MX UPGRADE!! When might that happen? Tesla needs a GIANT SUV to round out the product line, no?
My brother took delivery of a Long Range RWD Model Y last weekend, and it was impressive how much smoother the suspension is compared to my 2022. Also really loved how much better the camera quality was. Thought it was kinda messed up how Tesla trolled him though as far as the headlights. His has matrix headlights, but they’re not activated in the software, so he can’t even see the option to turn on the adaptive setting in his menus. They do still look nice though.
Can you recommend a charging plug for the model y that won’t let you disconnect from a non Tesla charger? Some Karen unplugged mines while it was charging
2021 Mustang Mach-E California Route 1 Edition was totaled a few days ago. We replaced it with a new (0 miles) inventory 2024 Model Y LR 7-seater in Ultra Red. We definitely liked the Mach-E but excited for our first Tesla!
If the roof is an inch higher…does it have an inch more ground clearance? That would be nice if it does. I have one on order already, waiting waiting waiting.
So would you suggest I buy one with the Rizen chip? This is my biggest concern is going to the old chip and missing out on updates and all that. What do you suggest?
Hey Chris - so just to be clear... If i got a white Model Y and with the money that I saved on getting it in white, I would wrap it black but whenever a door is opened, white would be visible? I always wondered about if this would look as bad as it sounds in my head because of the color contrast...
Wraps MAY have been worth the money when Teslas were prohibitively expensive. Who, except the ultra-paranoid, wraps a sub-$40k (after tax credit) car, unless they're a paid spokesperson?
We have had our 2023 Model Yp for 13 months and my wife just found the center arm rest/ cup holder for the rear seat. We love it as it has ultra sonic sensors and stalks.
Premium Connectivity for $99 per year includes everything I'd either Bluetooth or hardwire into the "theater." I just found out the other night that I can push the right steering wheel (voice command) ball and ask for specific songs from Tesla's own library and 75% of the time, I get the right song and the right artist. 20% of the time, I get the right artist (the song is probably not in the library) and the other 5% of the time, I just try again. It's truly amazing and Tesla should advertise it.
Are you going to need the cargo space the Y has? If you cannot do without the cargo space, get the Y. Otherwise, Model 3 is a superior car in many ways, I guess the Y is also a bit more capable on dirt roads too, but that is it.
Ordered Model 3 through app. Went to pick it up and found front bumper was damaged likely from transport ramp and missed on delivery inspection. Also got the red turn signals when 3’s were shipping with yellow lights. I thought it was a model Y exclusive or EU mandate. Even saw a 3 with them on the way home. Felt completely scammed for not getting to choose my available preference after buying a brand new car. Still do…
Very interesting comparison. I got my 2023 Model Y at a point (Early 2023) where it still had HW3, reflector headlights and paid MSM color but nevertheless still love it!
I got my 24 MY LW AWD last month, and when I got it, the EPA was showing 310 lol. Guess they updated it again right after I got mine. As for the suspension, I noticed it right away compare to my 21 M3 SR+. Was a bit surprised to be honest.
do you know if Tesla added the ability to close the passenger middle vent while a passenger is seated? Looking for a solution or software update to that situation.
We bought an aftermarket vent cover that just slides back and forth so front passenger can stop the AC from blowing on them. They probably make a back one too.
The current deal makes it a no brainer to buy the Y right now. I ordered a MY Performance for the same price as my 2022 M3 long range with the .99% and $7500 instant cash.
Everyday Chris, how tall are you? I notice while you are sitting in the driver seat your shoulders and head fit perfectly in the curves of the seat and head rest. One thing I hate is that the seats are so tall, average size or short people can’t use the head rest. Instead, their head falls back into that huge shoulder gap. Why does Musk think that all Tesla purchasers must be basketball players?
Does anyone know if the panoramic roof also has double glass in the 2024 model? I've searched for that information and found discrepant and unreliable information about that.
One big thing change since the removal of the ultrasonic sensors, many features have been removed. Such as smart summon and some safety features such as automatic lane change and brake assist. Its crazy how they dont really announce this. So safety freature wise the 2021-22 dominates.
That is not correct. Summon and auto lane change are only available if the FSD option is purchased. They were not “removed”. Not sure exactly what you mean by “brake assist” but if you mean AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) that is a standard feature on all Teslas. It is not part of FSD, it’s standard. If you mean “Brake Hold” (after pressing the brake pedal to bring the car to a stop you can release the pedal and the brakes stay engaged) that is also standard.
I’m not waiting for Juniper. I don’t want the first version of anything in a car manufacturer makes. I also love the current body style of model Y and most of the renderings of the potential juniper I don’t like as much. Also the car I just ordered has hardware 4, which should be good For many years to come. Add to that an almost certain price increase for Juniper, it was a no-brainer for me.
I own a 2024 Model Y , recently owned Audi A4’s and Merc E class , As far as i am concerned both the material quality , fit& finish of 2024 Model Y is at D segment German Premium brand level
So Elon said no one used the passenger lumbar support, according to their data, so they removed it. Yet, I bet no one uses the FM radio either, but we still have it. Pretty good video, even though you got the number of windshield cameras wrong on the HW4 car, it's 2 not 3. Also, the wiper blades are not heated, it's the glass that they sit on that is heated. Still gave the video a thumbs up though.
Model Y owners…is the car small inside? I want to get rid of my grand Cherokee. I know the y is smaller but is it really a lot smaller??? I really want the model x but can’t justify the price considering I work from home.
2024 Grand Cherokee cargo volume- 70.8 cubic feet. Tesla Model Y cargo volume- 72.0 cubic feet. Plus 4 cubic foot frunk. 76 cubic ft. total. Get a Model Y with a trailer hitch. It's great for attaching a cargo carrier, bike rack or for towing a utility trailer around town.
Don’t get Tesla owners, you buy a new car only to retrofit it so it’s better 😅. Things come off and get loose and still find it ok 😅 and love the brand and cars
Easier to add things people want, thn to remove what you don't want 🤷🏾♂️ the minimalism of the interior is a big selling point for some, and also make them cheaper. But yeah, i do agree, alotta people add everything back in, and thn some 🤣
And if you're thinking, why don't you just get a car that has all that stuff in it already? Because all that stuff is kinda trivial. It's really the tech people get it for (i think)
That rear door emergency release situation is still ridiculously bad. Most cars in an emergency you just grab the same handle you use every day pull it and you can get out. How many kids or elderly folks that rarely ride in the car would know how to open the door in an emergency. It’s actually a ridiculous safety hazard. Tesla does a lot of things well, but they sure blow it on things like this.
All Tesla's need one important item and that is 12v battery monitor. Last week a mom but baby in thr car seat walked around to get in the car and thr doors would not open the battery was dead. She called 911 the fire department arrive and broke the window. There is a video on youtube about this. It happen in Arizona.

Nice job going through the changes. Nobody else has done this and it’s super helpful! Also helps to show Tesla’s general approach to improvement.
Front brake changed to Hitachi 2p from Brembo 4p which is another cost down by Tesla.
This is such a good comparison format. So thorough and easy to understand objective and subjective thoughts by demoing in both cars

It’s a spacious car with lots of storage. But the rear roof line is sloped, so getting a bike in is not easy. But we have a hitch carrier for that.
The Y feels spacious. And that's coming from a nissan armada
It’s cavernous, I love it
2024 Grand Cherokee cargo volume- 70.8 cubic feet.
A lot of room in the back seats. Plenty of head room too.
Wow!!!! So many Tesla’s in your neighborhood! 😮
Used shoppers should buy from model year 2023. That's when Tesla started making significant improvements to the suspension
2024 RWD lr has no parcel shelf
12:56 A baby little p-size camera.😂
Haha
Opening doors without dismantled or removing anything should be mandatory. This is a life threatening feature.
Question is no one knows when juniper will be out
Irvine!
I'd wait!
Yeah ...will be $6-8k more expensive
@@ricric9521 but it will be worth it
If you live forever, what's a year? If you don't live forever, you just lost a year.
The ones sold in Canada (China built) have double pane glass in the rear doors! Its done since 2023
That rear door emergency release situation is still ridiculously bad.
Those rum protectors will be trashed when you get the tyre replaced - they will be destroyed by the machine that removes the tyres.
