Thank you for the stuck turn signal button explanation! I used to rest my fingers on the two buttons just so I could be prepared to push the signal whenever I needed. I did hypothesize and realize within the past week that keeping my fingers away from the buttons until I needed them prevented the issue. This helps explain why.
Finally the mystery of the jammed signal buttons has been solved! I tested on my M3P this morning and I was able to duplicate the jam as well as the unjam. I don't usually rest my finger on the buttons while my wife does which explains why it happened to much more with her. This should be a UA-cam short video to get the message out to everyone. 🙌

My electric company has a default flat-rate plan, but their "night's and weekends" plan (which is recommended for EV owners) lowers super-off-peak (12am-6am) to roughly 30% of that flat rate and off-peak to about 80%, but increases peak (4pm-8pm) to about 250%. I stayed on the flat-rate plan, but charged at what would be the super-off-peak time for a month, then downloaded the usage data so I could throw it into a speadsheet and do a comparison. I was honestly doing this because I wanted to see how much I'd be saving once I switched to the N/W plan. What I never expected was that, as it turns out, the flat-rate plan was actually cheaper! Yes, the N/W plan would mean that it'd cost me only 1/3 as much to charge my EV, but even my family's relatively moderate usage during peak time was more than enough to offset it. The moral: Take the time to do a comparison, and go with what makes sense for your specific usage. Don't assume.

For those that don’t have people at home during the day this will probably work out great, but for my usage it should come out a good bit better to use the flat rate. So for instance. The flat rate was .08c where the other plan was .14 during the day. For my use we use most of it during the day.
@@JamesTaylor3rd I’m in Kansas with Evergy and will likely keep my regular plan. Sounds very similar to how you described your EV plan. I didn’t like how they make it more expensive from 4-8pm when my kids are home from school, using PCs and eventually gaming / using TVs etc.
I switched to a TOU (time of use) plan with my utility. The super off peak between 12am and 6am is 4.5 cents per kilowatt. The peak rate between 2pm and 6pm is brutal but we don't use much energy during those times. The off peak which is all other times is only 6 cents per. This has worked really well for me. I'll run my pool filter, dishwasher charge my Tesla overnight for next to nothing 😅
I wish I knew this a whole lot earlier. All 6 Freezing steering wheel buttons. After 7 service visits with no solution until the Tesla App gave me instructions for proper usage. Keep your hands and fingers off any of the 6 buttons. I've never had the problem return. I've also had parts replaced not only the steering wheel ( which didn't solve the problem ). Just keep your hands away from the buttons.
Another awesome feature that is so easy yet so useful. Take seatbelt off and the car automatically goes into park. Freaking awesome. I love it on my refreshed M3 LR
For the turn signal getting stuck, another quick fix I found to work is instead of pressing the opposite signal… put your thumb under the plastic for the left signal and pull out a tiny bit and it should press in again.
Just picked up my Model 3 today...and got THREE STRIKES ON FSD! I was clueless to the entire thing, but was safely driving ( I thought ), but Tesla thinks differently. Now on day one of ownership, I cannot use this function for ONE WEEK. Any ideas on how to get out of Tesla Jail?
The recommended charge of 80% also means that range is decreased. Tesla advertises >300 mile range but it is closer to 240 if you follow necessary recommendations. Tesla will never tell you this as they need to inflate range estimates to sell cars.
The behavior you are seeing with the capacitive switches may just be a result of the way that technology works. There is always some level of capacitance in the environment, which can vary, so the sensor needs to measure and adjust for it. The sensor determines that the button is pushed when it detects a sudden increase in the capacitance that is above this environmental baseline by some triggering amount for some period of time. By leaving your thumb/hand over the sensor for 45 seconds or whatever they've set the sensor environmental recalibration interval to, the sensor takes that level of capacitance to be the new environmental level, so you would need even more capacitance than that to trigger the sensor going forward. When you move your thumb/hand away from the sensor for a few seconds the sensor notices a new lower environmental capacitance value and readjusts to that, so the button will again trigger when your thumb/hand is present. The solution is, as you noted, don't rest your thumb/hand on the capacitive switches. And if you do, then move your thumb/hand away from the switch for long enough for it to have noticed the lower baseline capacitance and recalibrated to it.
Thank you so much for the explanation of the turn signal button time out. We traded our 2020 M3 LR for a 2024 M3 LR almost two months ago. On almost every drive I’ve had at least one instance of not being able to activate a turn signal when I needed to. I was considering taking the car in for service. Now, it sounds like the solution is simply not resting my thumb directly on either button. I agree that this timeout is stupid. However it’s not nearly as stupid as having eliminated the turn signal stalk itself. The fact that the buttons move as you turn the wheel (e.g., while setting up for an upcoming turn) often leaves them upside down and on the other side of the steering column just as you want to activate a signal. This leaves you performing a distracting search just when your attention should be elsewhere. The stalks were always where you expected them to be, allowing their use to be subconscious and second nature. This was a very poor and unsafe design choice and is the only thing I don’t like about the new M3.
I have Texas Tesla energy, $0.50 a day free nights 10pm-6am. Home rate is $0.109 plus the free nights charging does not get charged the energy delivery fee from Oncore. Great deal if you commute!
Jeremiah…. So are you saying to charge each day of that week at 80% or only say charge sunday night and go all week and see if its below 50 then. My commute to and from work is total 20 miles round trip. Then say maybe of other than work maybe 30 miles if I do extra that day.
I only have flat rate options. I locked in for $0.0619 per kW for 12 months. When you add in service and all other fees it’s about $0.12 per kW all year long.
I had one in 2018 I put 184k miles it dropped 40 miles of range in a bit over 6 years and that many miles a full charge was giving me 270 and I used to charge to 90% everytime.
I don’t use my M3P as a daily so the whole turn signal getting stuck is infuriating. But did a long highway drive today and what you described about resting my thumb is exactly what I was doing 🤯.
I know what battery I have in my 2023 Model Y LR - and only charge to 90 percent. I am retired and drive only around town with the vehicle. So I only charge at home 1-2 times a week. I am on hourly rates with COM-ED and only charge when electricity rates are low. I did not join premium connectivity. Stupid - Feel I don't need allot of the premium items while driving. Saves me a little bit of money. I only use the radio while driving, it is free. My 2023 Model Y has the Stalks behind the steering wheel, so the left Stalk moving it up or down turns on my turn signals - I have no problems with the Signals. Now newer Tesla's do not have the Stalks.
That turn signal thing!!!! That explains it, cuz i noticed only have that issue when i'm on the highway. I thought it was the speed i was going must have triggered something in the software. But this explains it, must have been my hand.
The turn signal discussion is fascinating! I don’t think tesla knows about this or they would add it to their manual. You should definitely email them. Or the NHTSA and have them update their instruction manual.

I understand Tesla’s decision to eliminate costs from the manufacturing process but why must Elon eliminate turn signals in the first place?? What's next? Has Elon ever polled his customers to assess their opinions on the major cost reduction processes he makes that impact the driving experience? I've been driving ICE automobiles for about 60 years but am thrilled with EV-powered cars. They are efficient, powerful and environmentally friendly! The EVs get my thumbs-up 👍 but I want my opinion to be heard about the new driving experience from the POV of a senior!

I know my power company is off peak from 10pm to 6am during the weekday and off peak all day and night on the weekends. So I am charging once a week on the weekends

On my owners manual under high voltage batter it says it’s a liquid cooled lithium ion and I ordered the long range rwd and I got the 7,500 tax credit ? I’m confused 1:15
My turn signal buttons absolutely click. They may be capacitive, but there is a clicking action to them. I think a lot of people and they think of capacitive, they think of no moving parts, but there is a moving part, even if it’s just for the force feedback.
Believe it a lot of the modern macbooks are like that, they are capacitive and give you a force feedback to simulate clicking so there's no actual "pressing" down its just vibrating.
Quick question for a new Tesla owner on charging. You said keep the battery around 80%. Should you charge it daily from x to 80%, or should you use the battery down to like 30-50% and then recharge it to 80% even if that’s 3-4 days later?
If your baseline is to charge at a limited % then you can definitely leave it at a lower % and charge when needed. Daily charging is nice though, you might need extra miles on a random day.
As someone who uhh knows a friend yeah a friend who works there, he and or she possibly may have mentioned that, wait what did she say? Oh yeah that they build em differently depending on the shift and quality gets incentives to not call out mistakes for the sake of numbers because the higher ups just want that end of the year delivery bonus. I don't understand why Tesla didn't put the left turn signal on the left side of the steering wheel and the right signal on the right side of the steering wheel. This way your left and right hands are near the buttons and easily clickable with your thumbs. Having them on top of one another is silly.

Hey maybe someone here can help me out. My battery drained 10% while parked for 24hrs at the fire station. I did not have stand by on. Just have cabin overheat set to 100 (which it wasn’t hot at all). Is there anything else I can do or change? I feel like 10% is a lot in 24hrs of sitting there. 2024 model 3 LR AWD. TIA
Every time someone shows the stupid turn signal buttons, I count my blessings that the Model Y still had the stalks when I bought mine. That would have driven me crazy. I also think them planning to remove them from the Model Y in the refresh is just plain dumb, it's not going to win anyone over. Especially now that the 2025 Ioniq 5 has the NACS port, and after rebates, its basically the same price as a Model Y LR, and youll have stalks, and you have car play\android auto...
@rogerh2694 That's exactly my point. Someone considering buying one won't want to "get used to it". They'll test drive it, hate it, and buy something else. This isn't 2020, customers have real choices now.
Thanks for the Autopilot lane change tips. As a non-FSD driver, the inability to change lanes on Autopilot was driving me nuts. I'll have to look at my settings and give your tips a try the next time I'm out.
I didnt even know people had this issue because I've always had double pull selected. 80% of the time I only use cruise control without autosteer. I've always been able to lane change when using autosteer with the turn signal and only turning off autosteer without losing cruise control. This is another reason why FSD was a no go for me because I only use cruise control most of the time and with FSD you can't use it by itself at all that I've found.

There is almost never a reason to charge to 100%, Superchargers are plentiful. I keep my car at 65% during the week and charge to 80% for my weekly roadtrips. I only charge to 90% if that's enough to do the roundtrip without charging.
Anyone else experience when they drive at night, the cameras, the top camera and the two button cameras on their monitor with their lines to go up down the pictures not that good quality if you’re on a dark road at night pictures not the best anybody else experienced that on their 2024 model three
Major problem with these blinkers they are brutal !! They need to use the same ones in the MS & MX. Tesla service said with enough complaints they will recall it & have a new retrofit.

Kido you have no clue how batteries work. There's absolutely no issues going to 0% , none, doesn't exist. Normal or non lfp charge to 55% unless you need more. Charge late right before you leave and you will cut your degradation in at least half.
@@JremiahJonesanother mistake. Teslas have lg and pano batteries along with lfp. That means nmc and nca. You said 30-50 least amount stress. Not true again tesla reduces power dramatically down low so no extra stress. Going to even 0% will have no stress or any other implications. If you need 30-40% to commute charge to 55% with pano, 60% with lg and around 70% with LFP

I test drove an M3 and quickly realised to cancel you just tap the middle of the button. Actually really simple and effective

The solution is, as you noted, don't rest your thumb/hand on the capacitive switches. And if you do, then move your thumb/hand away from the switch for long enough for it to have noticed the lower baseline capacitance and recalibrated to it.
I just checked the turn signals are not touch screen, they are in fact buttons

Thank you so much for the explanation of the turn signal button time out. We traded our 2020 M3 LR for a 2024 M3 LR almost two months ago. On almost every drive I’ve had at least one instance of not being able to activate a turn signal when I needed to. I was considering taking the car in for service. Now, it sounds like the solution is simply not resting my thumb directly on either button.
I agree that this timeout is stupid. However it’s not nearly as stupid as having eliminated the turn signal stalk itself. The fact that the buttons move as you turn the wheel (e.g., while setting up for an upcoming turn) often leaves them upside down and on the other side of the steering column just as you want to activate a signal. This leaves you performing a distracting search just when your attention should be elsewhere. The stalks were always where you expected them to be, allowing their use to be subconscious and second nature. This was a very poor and unsafe design choice and is the only thing I don’t like about the new M3.

Jeremiah…. So are you saying to charge each day of that week at 80% or only say charge sunday night and go all week and see if its below 50 then. My commute to and from work is total 20 miles round trip. Then say maybe of other than work maybe 30 miles if I do extra that day.
I only have flat rate options. I locked in for $0.0619 per kW for 12 months. When you add in service and all other fees it’s about $0.12 per kW all year long.

I had one in 2018 I put 184k miles it dropped 40 miles of range in a bit over 6 years and that many miles a full charge was giving me 270 and I used to charge to 90% everytime.
I don’t use my M3P as a daily so the whole turn signal getting stuck is infuriating. But did a long highway drive today and what you described about resting my thumb is exactly what I was doing 🤯.

I know what battery I have in my 2023 Model Y LR - and only charge to 90 percent. I am retired and drive only around town with the vehicle. So I only charge at home 1-2 times a week. I am on hourly rates with COM-ED and only charge when electricity rates are low.
I did not join premium connectivity. Stupid - Feel I don't need allot of the premium items while driving. Saves me a little bit of money. I only use the radio while driving, it is free.
My 2023 Model Y has the Stalks behind the steering wheel, so the left Stalk moving it up or down turns on my turn signals - I have no problems with the Signals. Now newer Tesla's do not have the Stalks.
That turn signal thing!!!! That explains it, cuz i noticed only have that issue when i'm on the highway. I thought it was the speed i was going must have triggered something in the software. But this explains it, must have been my hand.
The turn signal discussion is fascinating! I don’t think tesla knows about this or they would add it to their manual. You should definitely email them. Or the NHTSA and have them update their instruction manual.

I've been driving ICE automobiles for about 60 years but am thrilled with EV-powered cars. They are efficient, powerful and environmentally friendly! The EVs get my thumbs-up 👍 but I want my opinion to be heard about the new driving experience from the POV of a senior!

My turn signal buttons absolutely click. They may be capacitive, but there is a clicking action to them. I think a lot of people and they think of capacitive, they think of no moving parts, but there is a moving part, even if it’s just for the force feedback.
Small movement is very normal for capacitive buttons. It helps the illusion.
Believe it a lot of the modern macbooks are like that, they are capacitive and give you a force feedback to simulate clicking so there's no actual "pressing" down its just vibrating.

Quick question for a new Tesla owner on charging. You said keep the battery around 80%. Should you charge it daily from x to 80%, or should you use the battery down to like 30-50% and then recharge it to 80% even if that’s 3-4 days later?
If your baseline is to charge at a limited % then you can definitely leave it at a lower % and charge when needed. Daily charging is nice though, you might need extra miles on a random day.
As someone who uhh knows a friend yeah a friend who works there, he and or she possibly may have mentioned that, wait what did she say? Oh yeah that they build em differently depending on the shift and quality gets incentives to not call out mistakes for the sake of numbers because the higher ups just want that end of the year delivery bonus. But that's just what my neighbor said, maybe, possibly.

I have an old model s and my range sucks and I want to get into a Y, I was thinking of AWD but now I’m thinking max range.
I don't understand why Tesla didn't put the left turn signal on the left side of the steering wheel and the right signal on the right side of the steering wheel. This way your left and right hands are near the buttons and easily clickable with your thumbs. Having them on top of one another is silly.
That could work. Although im used to it and dont even have to look. My model 3 also has physical buttons tho, its not a touch button

Hey maybe someone here can help me out. My battery drained 10% while parked for 24hrs at the fire station. I did not have stand by on. Just have cabin overheat set to 100 (which it wasn’t hot at all). Is there anything else I can do or change? I feel like 10% is a lot in 24hrs of sitting there. 2024 model 3 LR AWD.

Every time someone shows the stupid turn signal buttons, I count my blessings that the Model Y still had the stalks when I bought mine. That would have driven me crazy. I also think them planning to remove them from the Model Y in the refresh is just plain dumb, it's not going to win anyone over. Especially now that the 2025 Ioniq 5 has the NACS port, and after rebates, its basically the same price as a Model Y LR, and youll have stalks, and you have car play\android auto...
You get used to it like console controllers. So.... get gud.

Thanks for the Autopilot lane change tips. As a non-FSD driver, the inability to change lanes on Autopilot was driving me nuts. I'll have to look at my settings and give your tips a try the next time I'm out.
I didnt even know people had this issue because I've always had double pull selected. 80% of the time I only use cruise control without autosteer. I've always been able to lane change when using autosteer with the turn signal and only turning off autosteer without losing cruise control.
This is another reason why FSD was a no go for me because I only use cruise control most of the time and with FSD you can't use it by itself at all that I've found.

There is almost never a reason to charge to 100%, Superchargers are plentiful. I keep my car at 65% during the week and charge to 80% for my weekly roadtrips. I only charge to 90% if that's enough to do the roundtrip without charging.
Anyone else experience when they drive at night, the cameras, the top camera and the two button cameras on their monitor with their lines to go up down the pictures not that good quality if you’re on a dark road at night pictures not the best anybody else experienced that on their 2024 model three
Major problem with these blinkers they are brutal !! They need to use the same ones in the MS & MX. Tesla service said with enough complaints they will recall it & have a new retrofit.

Kido you have no clue how batteries work. There's absolutely no issues going to 0% , none, doesn't exist. Normal or non lfp charge to 55% unless you need more. Charge late right before you leave and you will cut your degradation in at least half.

Not true again tesla reduces power dramatically down low so no extra stress. Going to even 0% will have no stress or any other implications. If you need 30-40% to commute charge to 55% with pano, 60% with lg and around 70% with LFP
