@@meandthepotatoes4916 100 miles a day is no problem. Just keep it plugged in when it's not in use (Tesla recommends this) so when you get up I'n the morning you'll alway have a full charge. I get about 280 miles on mine when it's full. If you get in a pinch for some reason you press one button the the navigation screen and it will display direction to the closet supercharger and they are popping up everywhere. They come with an adaptor so you can also just use any charger. You can also buy a charger from them that you can plug right into any outlet, albeit is is super slow if you're at work or something. I bought a used Model 3 and totally love it.
Hi, I suppose you don't view through the back, just looking via the rear reversing camera, seeing you don't make any comments, and you like the roof light on open all the time. Thank you welshman2081
We have a '21 mY here in New Mexico and it's just an awesome car to drive, and an SUV at that! We've been electric since 2019 and we're never going back to ICE vehicles. The Tesla charging network here in the US is extensive and very convenient, so traveling the interstates is easy and fun. So, we said goodbye to oil changes, transmissions, tune ups, gears, engine noise, gasoline expenses, timing belts, you get the picture. All we do now is plug and drive.
I agree the looks of the Model Y can be better. But price point and experience driving this car is amazing. No way I would buy a RAV4 or CRV over this.
Currently in the USA, a Model Y long range is competitive in price with a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV. I ordered a long range, white interior, stealth grey exterior last week from Tesla, should be delivered this week. I already have a 240v outlet in my garage to charge the vehicle. Will do most charging at home, although there are 2 supercharger locations within 20 miles of my home.
@@catha86 Right, the other auto makers just need to decide that they also want to have the number 1 selling car that’s an EV and make money selling it. They just haven’t decided to do it yet. Some have shut down factories or stopped EV production lines. But when they feel like making money from selling them at scale, they will. They’re being so charitable to Tesla.
@@catha86 Tesla is way ahead in development as you put it. Agreed. And they don’t just sit still from here. An EV car is defined by its software. It’s clear as day that Tesla has a world-class software team that legacy auto makers can only dream of. It’s also clear that Tesla’s rate of improvement is unusually quick. They have the best selling car of any car in the world with the model Y which shares about 80% of its parts with the model 3. They make many of their parts themselves when compared to legacy auto makers. Their advantage when negotiating contracts with their suppliers is going to be significant compared to legacy autos because of the volume they sell and the suppliers’ confidence that Tesla can sell cars into the future. They are the most reliable buyer for raw materials for these parts in the car industry when compared to legacy (Western) car companies. China is and will increasingly bring fierce competition. Traditional auto is shitting bricks. First half of next Year Tesla will be releasing cheaper models than the 3 and Y as they have stated previously n the past 2 earnings calls. And then you have robotaxi and FSD. I’d respectfully put it to you that you don’t know what you’re talking about. But in any case, time will tell. BYD can’t be compared apples to apples to Tesla. They don’t make money on their EVs. They make it from their ICE and hybrids. Both of which are obviously not going to be sold in high amounts in the future. Samsung sells more phones than Apple, etc… zzz I also suggest that you are likely emotionally driven in either your dislike for Elon or EVs or both.
@@catha86 they are way ahead in development for software and battery and even electric motor efficiency but all the car design they had their issues as they are not auto makers they didn't think a car this heavy would screw up suspensions after 2-3 years. they had problems with assembly, paint (and its still the case). basically everything car manufacturers have been doing for a long time, Tesla did it wrong. Now they are getting better but the others are catching up. Techno is cool but if the rest is trash it's useless. I don't care having 12 cameras on my car it's completely useless waste of money i prefer a good sound system and good seats and a nice habitacle but thats just me ! Don't get me wrong they make good cars, not my type the style needs to be updated.
@@lukewdk2482 No its you who have no clue what you are talking about. As I just said. The other JUST started selling EVs compared to Tesla who has done so for 10+ years. The other makers have had 0 issue making big volume of cars and you are telling me they will not be able to make as many cars? and improve as fast as tesla? They do not have world class software team? We are talking about MULTI BILLION companies here and you are telling me not single one of them got a world class software team? China alone got world class talents but Germany can´t? As I said Tesla has been doing this and iproved over many years. The others which are world class companies with world class talents in the books are JUST getting started. I suggest you to take a look at Chinese EV makers and their cars and software before talking ever again. Also I suggest you to look at western EVs and compared to Tesla. They are RIGHT there at this moment of time making Evs on par and better than teslas. Just because you sold the most does not mean you are the best. More and more people will realise Tesla is not the go to anymore when buying an EV like before. You will see Tesla drop in sales in 2-3 years when the real competition starts going. Next year EU demanded more EV sales and more EVs from auto makers. Tesla got literally nothing over the big boys and many from China. But chinese cars are banned. Imagine chinese cars in US like phones. Huawei would already be mega huge in EU and US and make Apple and Samsung work for their sales.
@@lukewdk2482 Since this guy reported my reply for calling out this guy. I just want to say he thinks Tesla is the ONLY world class software team with the best talents in the world. We are talking about a world with 6 billion + people and ONE company got all the talents even though the others are multi billion companies. And he also think Tesla is way ahead because the others are simply worse.
I’ve had my model 3 for over 3 years now. Barring the lack of buttons, I love it. I have home charging, a definite financial and practical benefit, which together with the Tesla supercharger network, means I have never had to experience the pain of relying on public chargers and their cost per KW. This is not intended to be a smug comment, I’ve posted it merely to give a Tesla owners view on your review. Great video again Nick.
Not a smug comment at all! I have a Tesla on test at the moment again (video coming soon so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss it!) video next month! Supercharger network is brilliant! Thank you! 🙏
Hey may I know why did you order long range and not RWD? I myself is bit confused as I barely drive 10 miles a day but we drive to scotland twice a year and in summer to the beaches. So is it worth to slend £8k extra?
Great review! We held off buying an EV for quite a while due to the uncertain state of public charging in the UK and range anxiety. Got our Model Y in December last year and haven't looked back. Range anxiety has proven to be non-existent, it really is as simple as entering your destination and letting the car handle charge routing if necessary. My only complaint would be it likes to arrive at your destination with single digit percentage state of charge for some reason - this is fine if that's home where we've got a wall charger, or there's a destination charger available, but elsewhere? Not ideal. So when that's projected on the trip I just hang at the supercharger for longer than it recommends to raise state of charge higher and then continue, which really is no more than 20 to 25 minutes tops and given the need for food/toilet breaks it makes no difference to overall journey times. One thing I noticed in your video - you don't actually need to open the charge port from the touchscreen at a super charger. If you press the button on top of the charger cable when holding it near the car, it automatically opens the port. The whole supercharging experience of just plugging in, charging, unplugging and then just driving off is so seamless it felt like I'd done something wrong the first time I tried!
Savings from running costs can be much more than half. Being generous and saying an ICE car gives 50 MPG at £1.50 per litre is about £34 for 250 miles. EV for that miles needs 3.9 m/kWh. Cost at 7.5p overnight for 5 hours would be about £4.80. Teslas reduced costs have reduced and are now in my opinion, very competitive for the level and size of car when looking at ICE cars especially when looking at similar performance.
That has been one of the most positive reviews of owning an EV I have seen. Very interesting Nick. Thank you as always. Any chance of a review of the Skoda Scala please? Keep up the good work
Thank you! I’d love to get an EV one day! Glad you enjoyed it! Sadly haven’t covered Skoda as of yet on my channel, I may look to expand into more brands in the future! Currently I’ve features Mercedes, BMW, VW, Tesla & Smart.
10 000km free charging in the EU at the very moment. Just purchased a Y 2hrs ago :-) Still a bit more expensive than in the US, but surprisingly "affordable" taking into account the 10 000km free charge, some subsidy by the government, tax deduction ... Only downside: your 35K€ car has become very "common", as odd as that may sound.
Hi Nick, after much deliberation - and plenty of test drives of the Tesla - we swapped out our Mercedes GLC300e Hybrid for a Tesla Model Y Long Range. To be honest couldn't be happier. Having an all electric car with a range of over 300 miles is a deal breaker and the Tesla charging network makes charging effortless. Didn't think I'd ever switch from Mercedes but their prices were going way too high. Now I have a fully electric car, running costs are incredibly low with the Tesla being much more 'fuel' efficient. Added to that there are no servicing costs and road tax (at the moment) is 0. The cabin space and sound system is a definite improvement over the GLC and the touch screen does everything you want it to, all the systems are there from cruise control to blind spot monitoring. Couple of months in now and don't regret our decision in the slightest!
Your comment paints an exact picture as to one of the main reasons why I decided to go Full Time on UA-cam and most importantly, start covering other brands. I’m sure I’ll make a video about it one day! 👀 Yes the increases in costs, are pricing me out of potentially getting another Mercedes. I actually have another Tesla on test at the moment so video coming soon! 😜 I was thinking of doing a tips and tricks series on Tesla’s too! (If that’s something everyone’s interested in!) But yeah love what they do with Electric Cars 🙏
You don't have to open the charge door from inside the vehicle. Tesla super chargers and their wall charger have a button which you press which opens the charge port door so it's even easier.
Haha thank you! Yeah I found that out after I gave it back 😅 I know for next time! This was my first Tesla Review so bear with me 😛 More Tesla content coming soon! 🤓
Thanks for the review, and I like your viedo; I heard a lot of complaint around the build-quality, noise level and riding quality around Tesla Model-Y, what is your comments if you compare it with other available EVs in the market?
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Well as I mentioned in the video the ride was firmer than I was expecting and the steering was very sensitive but having said that owners commented on my video and mentioned it can be changed in settings. For the price, they have offers on at the moment which actually make cheaper than my petrol car which is crazy! It would work out about £10 - £15 more per month but running costs so much less.
Hi Nick, greetings from Portugal. Just wanted to give some positive feedback, I first came across you in 2020 when I purchased a Mercedes c coupe. Your delivery and approach are very professional, polished and at the same time easygoing. Don't know how y ou managed tompull this off, but keep going. Abraço
I got one over a year ago just to see what the fuss was about and I must say, really impressed, previously I have been a German can fan, having had BMW’s from 3 series through to 7 and 8 series, then latterly Land Rover (dreadful reliability). Really cheap to run never missed a beat and everything works, costs me £18.00 to full charge at home then good for 250ish miles. Don’t think I will ever go back to ICE, it’s the future, like it or not 😊
This is exactly one of the reasons why I’d love to switch to an EV. And if you saw last week’s video, I have a chargepoint ready! 😅🤓 For now I’ll test them and make a few videos on them! Hoping to check out more of Tesla models soon! 👀
I saw that too! But when researching I saw more articles and posts of it in Europe being the top. Either way, that’s so impressive than an EV is in the top few let alone 1st place! Have you got one? 🤓
Hi Nick. I have driven just over 20,000 miles in my Model 3 Performance and total charging cost so far is £105 for a car that does 0-60 in 3.1s. There is no annual service schedule as well and it comes with 8 years warranty on drivetrain and battery. I can't wish for more. So glad that a company like Tesla sells such amazing cars. I came from BMW M3, M4 and Porsche and Tesla is still quicker than those cars i had on public UK road in any condition in my experience.
Sounds awesome! I have a charger at home already so….i’m ready! Haha I did buy a new car last year (petrol) so can’t afford a switch right now. But for now more EV testing and reviews!
Off peak charging at home / and or solar probably On EV’s I have on test I can fully charge for less than around £5 (quite often under £5) I should add, that’s without solar!
My wife has a Model Y and while it's okay to drive, the driving experience in my MG 4 is massively better. Not just the actual driving, but having proper physical buttons and stalks that work like a normal car and an actual screen in front for speed and stuff. It's more ergonomic and easier to activate heaters, wipers etc. There is no doubt the Tesla has a better infotainment system or space inside but it just doesn't feel fun to drive especially glancing over at the speed, or guessing how to control stuff. Also, while the MG 4 software leaves a lot to be desired I can also run Android Auto and use apps of my choosing on it.
It's not as easy as you suggest. The supercharging stations can be busy, and you can find yourself with a 20 minute wait before starting. If you want to limp about on the minimum charge needed to get home that's one thing, but if you're like most people, wanting a little 'comfort margin' ... you'll be charging for longer than you suggest. Solar panels won't charge the car quickly at all (limited by the inverter) and solar batteries will be emptied in no time as they's so much smaller than those in the car. It helps as long as you don't mind using all your solar on the car, rather than powering your home! I've gone back from a Model 3 to a petrol car. The convenience is just not there ... for me (although I fully accept it might be perfect for others).
It all depends if the journeys you do are within the car’s range / just over. They’re not suitable for all but Tesla’s with their supercharging network do make the switch far easier than without. What petrol car did you go for? 🤓
How did you get on with the speedo being to your side rather than in front of you as in regular cars?? How easy is it to adjust climate etc through the display?
Excellent questions 🤓 So it’s strange at first, but after 2 hours of driving my muscle memory in my eyes got used to it. In fact after a week, when I got back in my car I looked left for the speed 😂 Climate control is easy, the temp adjustment is literally bottom of the screen. There is a menu that you have to go into to adjust other things which I know some don’t like. But if you’re just adjusting temp, it’s a tap away 🤓
Speedo is very natural once you get used to it and nobody ever complains about it in the Mini where the speedo is a lot further away!!! Other controls like lights or wipers pop up bottom right of the screen if ever you need them. Most things work fine on auto and it’s overall the easiest car I have ever operated in almost 50 years of driving.
Great review, thank you, my wife wants a test drive of the model Y before we order ours and I did not know that was possible, We have the BMW X6 so hopefully it’s comparable with space and luxury, I love EV’s, we’ve just installed our solar system so it’s exciting times.
Nick you probably are my favourite UA-camr. Your videos are excellent! And we always learn new things. However, today I noticed something and then I checked other videos of yours and it's always the same... You are sitting way far from the wheel and your arms do not follow the 90 degrees rule in order to control steering more efficiently in case of an emergency. Thank you again for your videos.
Awh thank you! 🙏 Well I don’t promote this too much, but if you wanted to support the channel you can become a member for about the price of a coffee per month😛 ua-cam.com/channels/8VSC5vv_SUeydoBo9ISucw.htmljoin Plus in return you get to see what I’m up to and you can watch the videos way in advance than shown publicly. For example right now there’s 3 videos that members can see that are scheduled in advance. With the seating, sadly I have exceptionally long legs so I have to sit further back otherwise my knees hit the steering wheel 😅
You do NOT need to press OPEN CHARGE PORT in the car at a SUPERCHARGER. There is a button on the charging plug simply press it as you approach your port and it will open.
Hello Nick aka Mr O'L. 2 questions dose the back seats recline and what are those above your head in the back seats are they lights ? I love the white seats iv configured my car to long range with white/black seats with 20" wheels with dark silver opening the door I like that have a nice week end 👍 ❤ what's really got me is the charging as its very good plus I have some where to kip when I go back up to Scotland
you forgot to hit the thumbs up ah. yes thanks for your quick reply. just a wee suggestion it might be good to have a look at someone else's videos to dig out the full spec or from the dealer ship you got the car from, like there's plenty of good ones. with full specs, It gives you a full rundown of the car or any car you're going to have a review. on this is a good starting point don't you think remember to hit the thumbs up
Hi great video.. I would love to hear from any taxi drivers who do local and long distance airport transfers and how they get on with the range in all types of weather..
Nice review, trying to finalize decision between Ioniq 5 LE or Model Y Long Range here in US . Tesla has many advantages but Ioniq 5 has beautiful Interior and HUD . Tesla NACS charging available in a few months. Tesla FSD v12.2 Beta looks really good and refined.
Yea, have Kona Ultimate EV and no OTA Updates has been a pain and Hyundai really behind on their software. So dilemma solved, bought the Model Y AWD Long Range today after long test drive‼️
I've been considering the Merc CLA 250e shooting brake - but its low ground clearance is hopeless here in Devon, so GLA - too small for the dogs, GLB/EQB - SO ugly and GLCe far too pricey. Then here you are, my fave Merc Man, showing me this - the perfect car! Thanks.
Haha Merc Man! 😅 Well this is one of the reasons I’m covering more brands than before, just gives people a choice to look at the different types out there!
FYI, you save steps by touching the charge port on the display of the car or use the voice command to open the charge port. It isn't necessary to dig into the menu. Also, you can just step out of the car and use the cellphone app to open it. If your CCS works like our NACS connectors, you could also just tap the door with the charging connector to have the door open.
Thank you! I found this out after I gave it back 😅 I’ll know for next time, my first time reviewing a Tesla so bear with me 👍🏼 Voice command is a good idea too!
You don’t even need to do that. There is very sensitive easy to press button on the supercharger handle that will open your charge port if you press it near to it, like a remote
Great video! The first one I've seen on your channel. You should test drive the new 2024 Model 3, it will loook similar to the new Model Y (project name Juniper) so you can get an impression. I've owned two Model 3s since 2019, waiting for the 2024/2025 Model Y. Quite frankly, the Model Y you drove looks dated compared to the Model 3 2024. More premium feeling.
Thank you! It’s already booked in so make sure you’re subscribed and you’ll see it! I even drove the old one too in preparation for the new one so I can be in current Tesla Model 3 owners shoes. Can’t wait to film it and check it out! Thanks for watching 🙏🙏
Great video Nick. I followed you when I had my Mercedes cars and now I have a Tesla model Y so it was interesting to hear your views . Agree firm ride but putting that aside best car I’ve owned. Sorry ICE die hards .
Thank you! Got more videos just like this lined up over the coming weeks and within a few months I hope to produce some more Tesla content 👍🏼 And don’t worry if Mercedes fans are reading this, I’ve got exciting videos lined up for them as well. So so busy! 😅 Regarding the Tesla Model Y, it is one of the very few cars, that when I gave it back, I sat down and configured one to see how much it would cost.
Thank you! That could be a video for another day! Tesla’s tight integration of software and hardware is incredible, however Mercedes is very familiar as I have a lot of coverage on my channel with them. They also do have an integration with selected chargepoints through Mercedes me charge. I would need to try a road trip with them both, I know how they both work now. As always each manufacturer will do things slightly different in the world of tech so we’ll see!
If you press the lightening shortcut beside the car on touchscreen the charger port will open that way too. Or you can also press the button at the top of the physical supercharger plug
Good review, I only have one minor complaint. When showing the storage you said something along the lines of “it goes all the way down to here” without even showing. The viewer has no idea how deep ‘here’ is. Only a minor improvement that could be made in future videos, maybe actually getting a camera to show a close-up would be more informative
Thank you! Yes I have started to show extra clips like that in videos so don’t worry. I’m always looking to improve and I appreciate you watching and leaving feedback!
@@honesty_-no9he Tesla has multiple factories. The ones in USA are made in TX or CA. Isn’t there also a plant in Berlin. Why all the love for China? The world can manufacture just fine without China. The problem is the Corporate suits want use cheap labor and China is happy to keep large parts of the country poor to provide the workforce. Anyways, Aren’t EV imports from China going to start getting taxed more in the EU?
Hello Nick! Irrelevant to the Model Y, but I was wondering in your A class I saw that you have the ‘advanced sound system’ and I want to ask what are your thoughts on the sound system? I know Mercedes also has the Burmeister sound system, but it’s only available for the A35 model and up in the UK.
Well I picked that spec because of that sound system 😅 Yes it is very good, I think it sits in the right place, got a very punchy bass sound when you turn it up and the audio is very clear so yes I’d definitely recommend! No it’s not Burmester but, if you have the option for the Advanced Sound System, you should definitely go for it!
Hey Gavin, For me and that particular car it was free as it was a press car. However for owners of Tesla’s at that public chargepoint (so you’d use it en-route somewhere) it was £0.45 per kWh. Times by the battery which I believe is 78kWh, then a full charge would be around £35 for when I was there. However you wouldn’t stay there till 100% anyway and you most likely wouldn’t arrive at zero. So you’re more likely to spend around £20 to charge up to around 80%. Charge at home though on standard rates in the UK and it’ll be around £23 for a full charge at home (0% to 100%). Get an off peak tariff and charge during the night and it can be even half that!
Like you I have the A Class mine is the premier plus and I have HUD, augmented reality nav, 360 cameras etc, which I wouldn’t be without. What are the extras on this car.
Ah nice! Tesla make it actually really easy, everything is kind of just included. Oversimplified, there’s the Rear Wheel Drive version Long Range (all wheel drive) And performance model Long range is the one in this video 👍🏼
the model y LR beats the audi etron imo. i was thinking of buying the etron because of the interior quality and the ride quality. however, for the better performance and the better range/charging network, the model Y is the way to go for me.
I am always excited to see your reviews. You almost make me want one... haha. I considered a Tesla before purchasing my Mercedes, however they are so fraught with issues, and they can literally lock you out and brick your car at anytime remotely. That happened to my roommates coworker coming back from a trip. I do like the streamlined elegance and simplicity. However there are many reviewers in the US that have video's of the fit n finish and tolerances really off. Panel gaps that go from 3mm to 6mm in the same panel. In 2016 I was excited to make my next car an EV, but again, too many issues. And even with Mercedes redundant protections, several have caught fire, one recently in FL burned a house down. So probably wait a few years for me.
Thank you! And thanks so much for watching! It was super interesting, next week’s video will be interesting too! Like an extended version of this video that I hinted at but a deeper look. Regarding EV fires, honestly it annoys me with Media companies. Do some digging past the headline and you’ll see that car fires in general are actually quite common across all makes. But what annoys me is that media jump at the sound of an EV on fire. For context, this sounds mad but over 100,000 fires in cars happen each year in the UK which equates to nearly 300 a day 🤯 Fires can happen for many reasons, people’s lack of knowledge regarding charging could be the culprit too, they could be charging via a domestic socket with extension leads.
That is very out-dated. Also it does not apply to the UK. We get Shanghai made TESLAs made by well educated Chinese people not poorly educated Americans. Before Shanghai Gigafactory existed we got badly made ones from the USA.
Thank you @joeclifford4953, sorry I try to reply to all comments but sometimes UA-cam studio doesn’t show me the odd one or two. Just spotted it now ☹️ Well glad you enjoyed the video! The cost of charging is down to where you get your electricity from. From most expensive to the most cost efficient: Public Charging (non Tesla) Public Charging (Superchargers) Public Charging (slower ones) Home Charging (standard Tarrif) Home Charging (off peak tariff) (this is what I can do now, more videos coming soon!) Home Charging (with Solar Panels) From the most expensive I’ve seen it could cost about £60 or £4.20 for a full charge at home. It matters A LOT where you charge!!
Loving this Nick this one is good, the Y was on my shopping list, very nice to see indicator stocks one of the things I was bothered about how about external sensors ?
A recent update introduced "high fidelity park assist". Essentially Tesla's version of Birds Eye view which for it being the first attempt is decent and will improve with future updates. Suggest watching a video on it. This is definitely a huge upgrade on the cars now that they don't have ultrasonic sensors
Great video Nick, I was only at Tesla Leeds last Friday to look at the new model 3 and it looks great restyled but for me the model Y is the nicer car to be in as a passenger & driver. They said I could test drive there and then which I've done a couple years back but put off now by the 2000 euros insurance excess..😁👍
Thank you! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it! I’m pretty sure my excess was that too! 😅 Better than £50k+ I really enjoyed that car! It was nice to see how Tesla operate and their ecosystem is amazing
Have had our model y long range for a year now, white exterior, black interior. Is a great car, but definitely needs to improve in some ways. N0.1 360 or front camera like the cybertruck, it should be present at least as an option, kinda disappointing for a car with that much tech. Our 2016 Nissan Qashqai tekna has 360 cam and front cam and even cameras for your wheels so you don't curb them!
EV in general were always really bad in the cold, until I noticed that a few of them weren’t as bad. When you’re researching for your next car, have a close look to see if they have a “heat pump”. Heat pumps are way more efficient and won’t demand as much from the battery which means, more range 🤓
Hello Nick!! I cannot wait till you do a complete guide in this car!! Just got mine, and i still fiddling around trying to understand when i get my FSD, and when, i am able to unlock all the capabilities.
Hoping to cover that soon Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out! However one thing I am going to be doing is checking out the older / previous model first for comparison and get my head into the space of current Tesla Model 3 owners before looking at the new one. But can’t wait to see it though!
Hi, I love the video, BUT No rear wipers, as I had in the Sarb, sorry they do not work in heavy rain, especially in reverse, even though a full sunroof, it would be better to have a cover, not, because of the shape of roof, other than that an excellent \SUB, Regards welshman2081
Thank you! True, but it did rain once when I had it (had to clean the car again 😂) but the heated rear window does clear some of if it’s stopped raining. And the camera system is pretty good 👍🏼
Since you are the Mercedes expert, would love to know your thoughts between EQE500 vs Model Y Long Range. If you can make a comparison video, I'd truly appreicate!
@@sunnyd6291apart from price range efficiency space OTA updates charging and safety, so basically you pay an extra fortune for chintz and a badge . You do you...
Well it’s one of the very few cars that I’ve sat down and configured one when handing it back. Sad to see it go! Tesla’s integration of software and hardware is 100% on point. It makes the charging experience so much easier. But I can’t and won’t change my car just yet, only bought my new one last year. So depreciation would be a factor. On the plus side, there’s more Tesla content coming soon! And more Mercedes stuff lined up soon as well!
It very much is! Got another Tesla on test at the moment so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out. Will be posted next month somewhen I think 🤓
So if you owned a Tesla, you can assign your phone as a key so as long as the car detects the phone, you press the door handle and the car unlocks. Once you are in, just press the brake and shift into gear. Without a phone, you place the key card just underneath the armrest and press the brake. But most users go with the phone option and just carry the keycard in their wallet as a backup. Anytime the door is open, the car essentially is "on" and just waiting for the brake to be pressed to initiate the driving gears
Hey @davidclewell @Uchejnr beat me to it! Haha Yes exactly as they explained, when the door is open, the car is essentially just “on” so when you put your foot on the brake, you can change gear and go. Super easy!
Not necessarily, it’s heat that causes battery wear. One of the reasons why a phone will state that it’s too hot when in direct sunlight and shut down and advise you to move it to a cooler place. EV’s on the other hand are thermally managed by their cooling and heating system so in the heat, it’ll cool the battery a bit ready for DC charging. Opposite thing will happen in the winter, it’ll heat the battery slightly to the optimum temp.
Not necessarily, it’s actually down to heat. Although EV’s in general manage their battery temperature, fast charging any device or car will create heat. There haven’t been that many tests long term (10-20+ years on a comparison between the two) so I’m sure someone will somewhen!
I believe it depends on the battery type. Some you charge to 100% and others it’s recommended to charge to 80%. I think if you continually charge the 80% type to 100% you can shorten the life. No doubt somebody will explain it better or correct me.
I didn’t hear a hum at all Sounds like he ought to go get that checked out just in case. It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a fan or something for the car’s computer, so on a hot day it might be running. I’ve heard that in my own car! 😅
My job is to burn Jet Fuel in the atmosphere, I’m not out to save the world. We needed more space with another baby on the way so we started looking at SUV from Mercedes to Toyota here in Thailand. On a whim we test drove a couple of gray Tesla models and were sold. Completely. Not so much the minimalist interior, which they sell as a “feature“ but just the drive. We actually put down some money on $130,000 Tesla model Y performance as a gray market car with a very limited warranty and complicated repair scheme. The repair scheme was complicated because if a big ticket item were to quit within three years. We were to put the car on a boat and send it back to England. Anyway, we canceled all that as soon as we found out that Tesla had purchased a business license in Bangkok and then ordered a model Y performance on the first afternoon it was available to order. This reviewer is as ignorant as anyone first in a Tesla, kind of noticing that everything is controlled by the screen when in fact, this is not true. Teslas are voice command cars. There are hundreds of things you can call by voice to do. Change your radio station change your temperature. Change your fan speed , turn on your windshield wipers turn off your windshield wipers pay basically all the little fiddly bits you might be doing while driving with switches and knobs fiddling about with your fingers counting on which button is the correct one to change the screen brightness on a car is all done with voice commands, and Tesla.
Thanks for watching! This was my first review of a Tesla so I learnt loads within a few days. So I did pick up voice commands toward the end of the week but I was saving the voice commands for another video 👍🏼
Rented a Model three for a week. Now have one permanently in the driveway. Perfect commuter vehicle.
Can I ask how far you drive in a day? I’m about 100 miles a day and probably getting one of these in the next few weeks. Assume the savings are big?
Ah awesome! Thanks for sharing! 🤓🙏
Ah that’s good! Thanks for sharing! 🤓👍🏼
It was the best selling car in the world in 2023, not only Europe. Of any car.
@@catha86
Tesla is way ahead in development as you put it.
Samsung sells more phones than Apple, etc… zzz
I also suggest that you are likely emotionally driven in either your dislike for Elon or EVs or both.
Thank you! 🙏
I’ve had my 2024 MYLR 2 weeks. I love it.
Nice review pal, thanks . Just ordered a Y long range
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
What colour did you go for? 🤓
@@npoleary white with white leather. Will probably purchase the acceleration boost pack. We test drove the performance, the power was ridiculous
@RichieTheFoodie ah amazing! 🤓👍🏼
Awesome! Thanks for sharing and glad you enjoyed the video! 🤓🙏
Haha yeah I realised that after I filmed the video! 😅 I know for next time! 😆
Not sure about Europe but here in the US, all original Tesla owners received FREE charging for life!
10 000km free charging in the EU at the very moment. Just purchased a Y 2hrs ago :-)
Still a bit more expensive than in the US, but surprisingly "affordable" taking into account the 10 000km free charge, some subsidy by the government, tax deduction ...
Yes the increases in costs, are pricing me out of potentially getting another Mercedes. I actually have another Tesla on test at the moment so video coming soon! 😜
I was thinking of doing a tips and tricks series on Tesla’s too! (If that’s something everyone’s interested in!)
But yeah love what they do with Electric Cars 🙏
Steering is also programmable and it sounds like you have it set to comfort. Sport is stiffer.
You don't have to open the charge door from inside the vehicle. Tesla super chargers and their wall charger have a button which you press which opens the charge port door so it's even easier.
Haha thank you! Yeah I found that out after I gave it back 😅
I know for next time!
This was my first Tesla Review so bear with me 😛
More Tesla content coming soon! 🤓
Or just push the flap
wait, so are you saying that super charges can open your own battery charge port? so
Thanks for the review, and I like your viedo; I heard a lot of complaint around the build-quality, noise level and riding quality around Tesla Model-Y, what is your comments if you compare it with other available EVs in the market?
Abraço
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! Ah all the Mercedes videos are still there! 🤓
Glad you enjoyed the Tesla Model Y Review as well!
For now I’ll test them and make a few videos on them!
Hoping to check out more of Tesla models soon! 👀
It was the best selling car in the world in 2023, not only Europe.
Haha
I did buy a new car last year (petrol) so can’t afford a switch right now. But for now more EV testing and reviews!
How come your charging costs are so low?
Off peak charging at home / and or solar probably
On EV’s I have on test I can fully charge for less than around £5 (quite often under £5)
I should add, that’s without solar!
You forgot the under floor storage on the rear.
@@npoleary Agree. I went for an M340i touring. Perfect for me.
Nice! 👌🏼
I am in Cairns, Australia and plug my Y in at 4kW's between 10:00 and 14:00 hrs, the solar panels cover that and the house perfectly. It's brilliant.
How did you get on with the speedo being to your side rather than in front of you as in regular cars?? How easy is it to adjust climate etc through the display?
Excellent questions 🤓
So it’s strange at first, but after 2 hours of driving my muscle memory in my eyes got used to it. In fact after a week, when I got back in my car I looked left for the speed 😂
Climate control is easy, the temp adjustment is literally bottom of the screen. There is a menu that you have to go into to adjust other things which I know some don’t like.
But if you’re just adjusting temp, it’s a tap away 🤓
You can always use your voice for a whole range commands, including lowering/raising the temperature. It’s remarkably accurate
@@Vanilla2165 thanks
Speedo is very natural once you get used to it and nobody ever complains about it in the Mini where the speedo is a lot further away!!! Other controls like lights or wipers pop up bottom right of the screen if ever you need them. Most things work fine on auto and it’s overall the easiest car I have ever operated in almost 50 years of driving.
Plenty of cars in the past had the speedo in the middle….minis and Morris minors spring to mind.
Tesla has a superb service and maintenance system having had BMW, Merc and Audi found that tesla service pretty amazing in comparison
Great review, thank you, my wife wants a test drive of the model Y before we order ours and I did not know that was possible, We have the BMW X6 so hopefully it’s comparable with space and luxury, I love EV’s, we’ve just installed our solar system so it’s exciting times.
Thank you! 🙏
Ah nice yeah defo take it out for a spin!
Wish I had solar! 👍🏼
You dont need to do the stsrt charge command. Just walk out grab the charge cable door automatically opens and plug it in.
I know now I figured that out afterward! 😂
Thanks for letting me know though, I’ve actually found there’s quite a few ways of doing it!

You are supposed to put the charging stop into the Satnav journey, then the system automatically pre conditions the battery for Supercharging.
I know 🤓 that’s why I mentioned it in the video
I was doing that section for the video 👍🏼
You do NOT need to press OPEN CHARGE PORT in the car at a SUPERCHARGER. There is a button on the charging plug simply press it as you approach your port and it will open.
Haha thank you! Others have pointed that out too, it was first time reviewing a Tesla. I know now for future 🙏

By the 2nd or 3rd OTA adding new features you'll regret not getting the Tesla
Yeah it is good to see and hear that Tesla offer OTA updates regularly adding features and functionality!
Yea, have Kona Ultimate EV and no OTA Updates has been a pain and Hyundai really behind on their software. So dilemma solved, bought the Model Y AWD Long Range today after long test drive‼️
Great video. I love the voice commands to control things while driving. Perhaps also include that in your test?

Yeah defo! I’ll give that a go!
Well this is one of the reasons I’m covering more brands than before, just gives people a choice to look at the different types out there!

More premium feeling.

everything looks good but the suspension! does it mean a bumpy ride?
It’s not bumpy it’s just firmer than I was expecting. I like a firmer ride in a car anyway, means you’re more connected to the road 😅
I got my RWD model y 2024 and love it! THANKS!

What colour did you go for?
Great video Nick. I followed you when I had my Mercedes cars and now I have a Tesla model Y so it was interesting to hear your views . Agree firm ride but putting that aside best car I’ve owned. Sorry ICE die hards .

And don’t worry if Mercedes fans are reading this, I’ve got exciting videos lined up for them as well.
So so busy! 😅
Regarding the Tesla Model Y, it is one of the very few cars, that when I gave it back, I sat down and configured one to see how much it would cost.
Hi Nick, A great video, thanks. But here’s a question for you - which would you choose Tesla Y or Mercedes EQA?
Is that right? 🤓
Wish I’d have known that sooner! 😂
Everyday’s a school day!
You can also press the right-hand scroll wheel on the steering wheel and say "open butthole."
Steering feel is selectable in the menu
It is, I think if I remember there were 2 settings 🤓
You don’t have to type a destination. You ask the car to navigate to somewhere.😊
I’ll have to try that out next time! 🤓
and if you put a doctors appointment in your google calendar the car will have the destination up when you get in to go there.

Hello Nick! Irrelevant to the Model Y, but I was wondering in your A class I saw that you have the ‘advanced sound system’ and I want to ask what are your thoughts on the sound system? I know Mercedes also has the Burmeister sound system, but it’s only available for the A35 model and up in the UK.
Well I picked that spec because of that sound system 😅
Yes it is very good, I think it sits in the right place, got a very punchy bass sound when you turn it up and the audio is very clear so yes I’d definitely recommend!
No it’s not Burmester but, if you have the option for the Advanced Sound System, you should definitely go for it!
Great car!
How much was the charge? Was there an app with a registered credit card?
All through the app as an owner. Cost is about 15-20£ full charge depends on location and time of day.
Hey Gavin,
For me and that particular car it was free as it was a press car.
Like the seats in the Tesla just not white if you wear jeans 😁
Yeah I thought that! 😅
But they were okay after a week!
I’d probably go black though just in case 👍🏼
Like you I have the A Class mine is the premier plus and I have HUD, augmented reality nav, 360 cameras etc, which I wouldn’t be without. What are the extras on this car.
Ah nice! Tesla make it actually really easy, everything is kind of just included. Oversimplified, there’s the
Rear Wheel Drive version
Long Range (all wheel drive)
And performance model
Long range is the one in this video 👍🏼
the model y LR beats the audi etron imo. i was thinking of buying the etron because of the interior quality and the ride quality. however, for the better performance and the better range/charging network, the model Y is the way to go for me.
Nick do you know if all 2024 model y come with hardware 4 camera? I pick up mine Friday. 😊
Ooo nice! Sadly not sure on the version numbers for the cameras. But it uses Tesla vision (the one without physical parking sensors) if that helps?
For context, this sounds mad but over 100,000 fires in cars happen each year in the UK which equates to nearly 300 a day 🤯
Fires can happen for many reasons, people’s lack of knowledge regarding charging could be the culprit too, they could be charging via a domestic socket with extension leads.
EV'S have only one tenth the number of fires that ICE cars do.
That is very out-dated. Also it does not apply to the UK. We get Shanghai made TESLAs made by well educated Chinese people not poorly educated Americans. Before Shanghai Gigafactory existed we got badly made ones from the USA.
@@npoleary Entry level MODEL 3 and MODEL Y have LFP batteries they do not burn. All BYD EVs use LFP.
VERY POOR RESEARCH!
I have an IONIQ 5 and it’s really difficult to imagine going back to petrol when I’ve spent £200 to fill my car with electricity for 8,000 miles
Awesome! I’ve always wanted to check out the IONIQ 5 🤓
Can’t get am mtb in there on one piece though, where you can in the s
It looks exactly like my 2021 TM Y EXCEPT the steering wheel is on the WRONG SIDE 🙂 .
Great informative review of the Tesla experience. They have got so much right . How does the cost of charging work ?
Overnight at home 2p per mile = 300+ mpg equivalent; Tesla Supercharger typically 10p per mile = 60+ mpg equivalent
Thank you @joeclifford4953, sorry I try to reply to all comments but sometimes UA-cam studio doesn’t show me the odd one or two. Just spotted it now ☹️
Well glad you enjoyed the video! The cost of charging is down to where you get your electricity from. From most expensive to the most cost efficient:
Public Charging (non Tesla)
Public Charging (Superchargers)
Public Charging (slower ones)
Home Charging (standard Tarrif)
Home Charging (off peak tariff) (this is what I can do now, more videos coming soon!)
Home Charging (with Solar Panels)
From the most expensive I’ve seen it could cost about £60 or £4.20 for a full charge at home. It matters A LOT where you charge!!
If there is an electrical fire is there a mechanical way of getting out.
Of course! They’ve thought of that: www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-AAD769C7-88A3-4695-987E-0E00025F64E0.html
I prefer Tesla vision for parking assist. Have had USS on many previous cars.
Thank you! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it! I’m pretty sure my excess was that too! 😅
Better than £50k+
I really enjoyed that car!
Thanks for sharing! Yeah a dedicated all round camera system would be good! Although I do love the blind spot cameras and sentry mode on Tesla!
@@npoleary yeah the sentry mode has saved us a couple of times. It is really useful, and autopilot is really nice for longer dirves
So would you ditch your Combustion engine and go for EV? I am still a bit sceptical about EVs in very cold weather and the remaining charge.
EV in general were always really bad in the cold, until I noticed that a few of them weren’t as bad. When you’re researching for your next car, have a close look to see if they have a “heat pump”.
Heat pumps are way more efficient and won’t demand as much from the battery which means, more range 🤓
All the countries with the most adoption of BEVs are cold!
Nice review, I should also point out that the car goes even quicker with more range in the battery, definitely an insanely quick car
The roof is spectacular yes….however it’s scoring hot goring the summer blazing sun 🥺 even roof shade
Hello Nick!! I cannot wait till you do a complete guide in this car!! Just got mine, and i still fiddling around trying to understand when i get my FSD, and when, i am able to unlock all the capabilities.
Hey! I would like to over the next couple of months so bear with me 🤓
If you’re in the UK wouldn’t it be a froot instead of a frunk? 😎
Very true… 🤔🤔
Great vid Nick. Interested to get your thoughts on the recent model 3
Hoping to cover that soon
Make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out!
And the camera system is pretty good 👍🏼
Tesla is expensive in places like Dubai where the economy is fueled by fossils but cheap when the economy isn’t like USA and uk
You don’t mention the battery type of this car. LFP, or Lithium ion?
Lithium-ion I believe 🤓
I believe LFP only in short range Tesla’s.
Impressed with the frunk size on the dual motor ... I thought it would be a lot smaller than the single motor
Since you are the Mercedes expert, would love to know your thoughts between EQE500 vs Model Y Long Range. If you can make a comparison video, I'd truly appreicate!
Don't bother mercedes is head over heals better than Tesla in all aspects
@@sunnyd6291apart from price range efficiency space OTA updates charging and safety, so basically you pay an extra fortune for chintz and a badge . You do you...
Shouldn't the frunk be a froot in the UK.
Possibly! 😅
There is also a button on the supercharger handle to open up the flap. No need to use the screen in the car.
Haha yeah everyone very quickly told me that when the video went up! 😅
Everyday’s a school day! ☺️
Thank you! And thank you for watching! 👊🏼
Used Model Y are cheap here in USA. I’ve seen as low as $28,000🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💰💰💰
Wow! 🤩
Hi Nick, from your review seems like your next car will be a Tesla 😂
Well it’s one of the very few cars that I’ve sat down and configured one when handing it back. Sad to see it go!
Tesla’s integration of software and hardware is 100% on point. It makes the charging experience so much easier.
But I can’t and won’t change my car just yet, only bought my new one last year. So depreciation would be a factor.
On the plus side, there’s more Tesla content coming soon! And more Mercedes stuff lined up soon as well!
Tesla is the Iphone of EV's while all other EV's are android. Definitely some gems in the EV space, but Tesla is a whole ecosystem:)
It very much is! Got another Tesla on test at the moment so make sure you’re subscribed so you don’t miss out. Will be posted next month somewhen I think 🤓
Now I think I know why Tesla put the screen in the middle. Because it's in the same location regardless of the steering wheel position.
That is a very fair point!
One thing I was interested in is "how do you start it?" but that wasn't mentioned. One minute chatting, next minute driving?????
So if you owned a Tesla, you can assign your phone as a key so as long as the car detects the phone, you press the door handle and the car unlocks. Once you are in, just press the brake and shift into gear. Without a phone, you place the key card just underneath the armrest and press the brake. But most users go with the phone option and just carry the keycard in their wallet as a backup. Anytime the door is open, the car essentially is "on" and just waiting for the brake to be pressed to initiate the driving gears
Thanks for that. I guess with petrol /diesel cars I know how to start etc. Not familiar with EV cars.@@Uchejnr
Hey @davidclewell @Uchejnr beat me to it! Haha
Yes exactly as they explained, when the door is open, the car is essentially just “on” so when you put your foot on the brake, you can change gear and go. Super easy!
The thing with range anxiety is that it usually those without an EV that suffers from it.
Very true!
I am no expert but doesn't fast charging ruin the battery faster?
Not necessarily, it’s heat that causes battery wear. One of the reasons why a phone will state that it’s too hot when in direct sunlight and shut down and advise you to move it to a cooler place.
EV’s on the other hand are thermally managed by their cooling and heating system so in the heat, it’ll cool the battery a bit ready for DC charging. Opposite thing will happen in the winter, it’ll heat the battery slightly to the optimum temp.
It is the VW Käfer of the 21st century 🤗
Using the supercharger all the time messes up the battery in the long run
Not necessarily, it’s actually down to heat. Although EV’s in general manage their battery temperature, fast charging any device or car will create heat. There haven’t been that many tests long term (10-20+ years on a comparison between the two) so I’m sure someone will somewhen!
I believe it depends on the battery type. Some you charge to 100% and others it’s recommended to charge to 80%. I think if you continually charge the 80% type to 100% you can shorten the life. No doubt somebody will explain it better or correct me.
I don’t have mine yet, but I think there’s different steering feel options
Yes you change the “weight” of it, to make it seem heavier if preferred 🤓
Thanks for watching the video! 👍🏼
do you get a humming sound under the big screen? i heard one owner says that is a issue in his stand range
I didn’t hear a hum at all
Sounds like he ought to go get that checked out just in case.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a fan or something for the car’s computer, so on a hot day it might be running. I’ve heard that in my own car! 😅
Tesla's are OK I've test drove a couple but, at the end I couldn't wait to get back to my Mercedes ❤ahh that's better.
Wow
