    Amanda, I cannot express how ugh you have taught me! My beloved husband passed away 2 months ago and I completely lost all desire to quilt again, and I was a newbie to begin with. Tonight I began watching you again, and tomorrow I'm getting back to the sewing machine. Your gentle way of explaining has given me some of my mojo back! Thank you. I pray that I am able to stick with it. I desperately need to pull out of this terrible setback.

      Dear Jo, I can definitely understand where you are coming from. My husband passed away on 20 July 2015, so the anniversary of his passing is approaching, always a tough day. I found that my craft kept me going through the dark days and its good to hear that you feel like getting back into your quilting. It certainly helps because you become so focussed on creating something new, and not that we ever want to forget our love ones, but we also don't want to dwell on our loss.

      I had to have my precious 18 year old best friend (dachshund) this week and it nearly did me in. Today the vet sent me a beautiful card with her little paw prints stamped on it. Sad day, but God is good, and He will help me. Thank you for your kind words. And thank you for your spectacular tutorials. You are one of a kind, for sure!!

      thank you for your words of wisdom... to add insult to injury, i had to put down my faithful and loving companion of 18 ears, my beloved Rosepetal, my dachshund. i miss her as much as Steve, even though I imagine that sounds ridiculous. Time will help to lighten my burden, and my good memories wiill overshadow the pain of loss. For that, I am quite grateful...

The tip you showed about lining up the 45 degree mark on the binding strip was so great! I've never seen anyone do that before, and even if you are a seasoned sewer it's great to draw the line to make sure you get a beautiful straight edge on your joins like you did, so thank you for that lesson, I'm going to use that now :)

    I have this video bookmarked because I pull it up every single time I get to a binding task. You are a wonderful teacher and I know one when I see one because I have spent my life as an educator and I could listen to you all day long. I have a couple of questions....Is it best to use the walking foot for binding and what stitch length would you suggest? Joyce in Virginia :)

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  3 роки тому +1

      That is so lovely to hear Joyce. I use the default stitch on my machine. I very seldom change my stitch length. And I do find a walking foot helps when attaching the binding. I have an open walking foot which helps me to see where I am stitching.

    Love the idea, tried using the 'binding tool' and was left with 1" excess fabric and had to move the seam of the mitre. I shall use your method in the next quilt, thank you

    I loved your tutorial. It all makes such good sense. I followed it and got it all done, but what about the back? Do you have somewhere that shows us how not to get the wave or how far to pull to meet the stitch line? I am not happy with what I did and was hoping you have advice on machine binding troubleshooting? Thanks. I can't wait to watch and learn more from your videos.

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  8 років тому

      This takes practice. If the seams are 1/4" then the binding should pull over nicely and sit over the stitch line. Use lots of pins and adjust the binding as you pin. Lay the quilt flat as you work so that the binding is also flat.That should help with any waves. I'm sorry but its a bit hard to help without being able to see exactly what is going wrong for you.

    Love your video but have a question. I am very new to doing bindings. When I do mine I am careful to use a full 1/4" seam allowance when sewing on the binding to the back. When I fold the binding over to sew on the front I end up with stitches showing in the back and it doesn't look very tidy as they can wander a bit... probably me.. lol. but is there a way to make sure the back is as tidy as the front? Thanks.

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  6 років тому +1

      That is going to happen when you machine stitch. One way is to pin exactly where you want the stitching to be. But even then you can wander off and the stitching will show. One reason to use fussy fabric for the backing as the stitching doesn't show as much. Hand stitching is one way to ensure your stitching doesn't show. But I am way too impatient to hand sew. :)

    Thank you for the excellent video. What is the Perspex thingy on the right side of the foot? Is it a fabric guide that came with the machine?

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  3 роки тому +1

      It's called a cloth guide and it was an optional extra we purchased for the Janome Horizon 7700 QCP machine, and you are right it is a fabric guide.
