A really weird bug that just cropped up today is that you can no longer type a space character in UA-cam in any legacy-Firefox-based browser (Mypal, Pale Moon, K-Meleon, Firefox ESR, etc.) -- it is now reserving the space bar exclusively for pausing/unpausing the video. I'm using Mypal, and to enter this comment I had to type it in Notepad and then paste it in to UA-cam. The space bar still works normally in any Chromium-based browser.

People are just a little bit obsessive with this 'OMG you have Windows XP on the internet in 2021? We're all going to die!' approach. Yes of course I would never suggest it for any business use, but I still run an XP laptop with both the last supported version of Chrome from 5 years ago and Firefox ESR. It's fine. And as for the security risks, virus/malware coders are going after weaknesses in platforms which are in common use. It's why in 2017 XP was targeted by Wannacry when it was still worth it but the architecturally similar Windows 2000 proved to be essentially immune to it because it had not been targeted and the code was found not to run on it. XP usage on internet-connected devices has crashed in recent years and is now less than 1%. Newer versions of Windows still trace their lineage back to Vista, not XP. There might well be specific targeted attacks to get into infrastructure known to have XP in use to exploit, but no general malware is being made with XP in mind in 2021, that focus will now have shifted to Windows 7. Of course that doesn't mean it's secure (hence the opening comment about business use), just that in practice the risk is so small that it doesn't matter any more.
I agree, I have a Dell XP laptop with Chrome on it, which I take online once in a while, and haven't had any problems. After all, I'm not going on to any dodgy websites, just onto trusted sites like UA-cam.

looking at this makes me really miss XP, I'm sad microsoft ended support for it. It was really simple & made new windows users or even new computer users interested & wanting to learn, the fun colors, the customization, the design of everything is what people remember a lot. Everything is honestly better than windows 10 or anything from 8 & up, but microsoft wants to "focus on the future" or whatever they said Regardless, thank you for making videos like this with older versions of windows or computers in general because not only are they interesting, they're a really nice look back as well as fun to watch. Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to cry while listening to 95's easter egg song "clouds.midi" while I look at the old wallpapers from previous Windows versions
Microsoft is stupid they keep throwing away Windows 95 then 98 then ME then 2000 then XP then Vista, 7! Next 10 and 11 soon. So stupid Microsoft is compelety damning stupid. From 95 to 7 are best. XP the champ king!
I have 2 partitions on my computer. One with Windows XP, and another with Windows 8.1 (since I hate 10). I use the XP partition mostly for studying since I don’t get as many distractions, nor I use personal accounts there. I also use it to play old games from that era like Counter Strike 1.6. My computer has pretty old specs, which makes using XP a more pleasant (real) experience. CPU: Core2Quad 2.6 GHz; RAM: 4GB DDR2; GPU: Ati Radeon HD 7770.
This was really helpful. My parents refuse to buy a new PC and they are using XP. It is an extremely outdated PC but you know how old people and parents work. "If it isn't broke, we don't need a new one".
Great video ! I must say that on old PC with - Pentium 4 - 2.4 Ghz, 2 GB DDR RAM/PC3200 and GeForce 6600GT/128MB, Mypal runs really much fuster with a much less memory usage than K-meleon
Windows XP, the Windows I had grown up with until I started using Windows 7. My first Windows was actually Windows 95 (my great grandmother had it on her old computer and it worked remarkably well.)
Actually, I'd like to point out that using XP with lightweight browser, like MyPal, is actually reasoneable on really low-end, old devices. Recently I've been plaing with all-in-one PC with old Intel Atom and 512 MB of RAM. While most modern linux distros just woudn't work properly with modern browser, MyPal with XP actually works better than on my current PC (which isn't the best, but still 4GB of RAM and Pentium G840 has got some "power")
I was disappointed when Mozilla cut support for XP. I have an older laptop running XP which is still quite usable for light tasks, but the lack of a modern browser was a great limitation. So, it's nice to see there are some decent alternatives still.
@@talvisota327 last time I used an xp google chrome looked a lot more modern than that (it was the default browser, Firefox was REALLY really laggy but chrome worked normally)
Just got given an old Vostro 1500 xp professional . Tried mypal and can watch youtube at 720 p. Sound quality is a lot better than my 2021 Dell. Can install windows 7 , but going to keep it for old games. Amazing it is a usable laptop and 14 years old!
I have a PC that can triple boot between Windows XP 32 bit Japanese, Windows 10 64 bit Japanese, and Windows 10 32 bit Traditional Chinese (Taiwan). And it's made of 2013 computer parts too.
Hi Michael! I've done a little experiment during my holidays that I'd like to share with you. I have on old IBM T43 laptop (with only 2GB of RAM) running Windows XP that I use for playing old games. I needed to download bots add on for CS 1.6 and was struggling with the poor internet browsing on a Firefox 52.9 ESR due to lack of current root certificates. What I did was I've taken my usb drive and exported whole certificate store from my Windows 10 computer and imported to my XP machine. It worked as a charm and I can browse the internet without any certificate related errors :)
My mind is blown that apparently K-Meleon still has a version that's updated that works on 9x! They just updated 1.5.4 last January! I mean, I'm sure it won't run Twitter and UA-cam, but that's still impressive.
I've got to give it a try, many sites in 9x are not working anymore, like the Wikipedia, due to new security protocols for wich Win9x have no updated certificates
Both browsers also work on windows 2000! I especially like k-meleon in combination with windows 2000, since it can run reasonably well on 256 megs of ram! (even a super light nlited version of XP won't do that very well)
Thanks for the info 😁. My uncle game me a old laptop to see if I could fix it. It originally came with windows xp, but for some reason, it got corrupted. I explained to him that xp is not safe to use anymore, but he doesn't care, so I am looking into the best way to configure windows to be used as securely as possible.
One of the things I really miss from old Firefox is the add-on that let you highlight search terms in your scrollbar...which will finally be an official feature in Firefox's 87.0 update that will come out this March 23, apparently. o.O I literally just looked this up after watching this vid. Lol. Holy cow, can't wait.
Mypal is dead now... :( Hope the other browsers stay supported though. It would also be cool if Pale Moon could make Mypal open source, like the Classic Shell developer(s) did.
This was very helpful because I'm building a very old netbook for my daughter as her first computer, I just hope there's some parent locks or something I can install on it so she can still watch UA-cam kids and such and still play some retro games that I grew up with
It's a pity that I didn't know about this browser before, because when my Laptop broke up, I had to use a Windows XP computer on which google chrome and firefox somehow worked for me. :D
Interesting I might try that sometime with one of my spare thin clients. Honestly the last time I took an xp machine online was probably 4-5 years ago. My win xp retro gaming maching shares a montor, mouse, keyboard, and an external hard drive with my modern machine through a hub. if I need to download anything for it, I just log on the other machine and save it to the external drive. I never seriously considered taking it online . Now I did consider a dual boot situation with the older machine so it could be a standalone device, but I found that running two machines sharing accessories works just as well for me. Better actually because I am not tied to 9 year old hardware for my internet activities.
I remember using Yandex Browser (Chromium Based) for Windows XP. You could also get recent extensions running on it if you downloaded, extracted and inserted them manually. It worked great but it was in 2019.
I use Windows XP 64 bit as I have 24GB DDR3 RAM and AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz in one system and 12GB DDR3 and i5-2400 3.1GHz in the other system. I have commenting from the 2nd system now. Both support Windows XP fully and this is the reason why I will not upgrade these two machines. All my other desktop machines are older than these two. I also have a 2011 HP laptop with i5-2450M and 12GB DDR3 RAM which has all drivers for Windows XP.
I'm on XP and Mypal does a great job browsing the web, some sites throw that "unsupported browser" bs, but still work. I navigate through FB and YT using their mobile versions and the experience is just fine, without all that garbage developers put on websites nowadays thinking it makes the sites look/work better. To be fair even the latest FF for XP struggles to open UA-cam with that horrible new layout.
You're not alone bro... as long as XP works for me i'll stick to it; i've used anything from Vista to 10 on a daily basis and nothing is as reliable as XP
Graphics performance in a VM will be worse than directly mostly because you aren't talking to the GPU directly (unlike CPU virtualisation). So the video playback lag is expected and general UI responsiveness
try to use them on native pc. I can tell you, MyPal with modern XP GPU (I use 550Ti) can be really good, it supports HW acceleration for playback, so I can pick 1080p easily and no-laggy
Windows XP is supported by hardware as recent as the 3rd generation Intel Core processors and nVidia GTX 9xx series. I'm going to put together a system with a i7-3700k and GTX 970.
Browsing on XP actually really works good and it still does it job for homeoffice! And people say something different, Our school has more then 5 Windows XP Operating PC still running perfectly!
My Dell Mini 9 with a newly downgrade to Windows XP is happier than ever with using MyPal. Adblock is necessary for watching UA-cam on that machine, but it works. The Adblock I installed is a version for pale moon.
This is great! I was looking for a way to give use to an old Asus EEE PC which has a unique utilitity: lightweight, small and beautiful. But it comes with Windows XP as original image. So I have two options: 1) Install Seven and corresponding drivers, and 2) Install modern browsers like these. As for the type of machine it won't be used for heavy tasks, I think that being able to connect via Wi-Fi and browse the web is all I need to keep my mini notebook up to date.
I finally have it working with modern browsers. Sadly, for Google Sheets, is too slow. But that is because of the hardware. Today's web apps are generally heavy.
Personaly I used Mozilla Seamonkey since now. The last version for Windows XP (2.45.9) was released in 2019, but it's starting to get old. Even if I didn't have any flaw, including going on UA-cam. I just use uBlock Origin to block the useless resources, and the hosts file. I use COMODO Firewall and Microsoft EMET to avoid memory leaks / intrusions. Is that enough? But yeah, it's a bit risky because it still contains security flaws. Thanks for recommending us MyPal. Gonna try it soon.
So funny to see it being such a big deal to use Windows XP in 2021, i was casually using my dell dimension 8200 with windows xp and firefox esr pretty much everyday up until March 2020 when i decided to get a new computer for school reasons. Good video though
Used MyPal after your vid but PaleMoon devs stirring up drama about licensing (that they themselves aren't even following parts of at time) pretty much forced the dev of MyPal to close down the project. Hope you add a note about that as MyPal won't be getting any more updates and the repo for it has been nuked.
Update: MyPal has moved its codebase to be based on Firefox Quantum and while the version does have bugs from time to time, it works pretty well for the most part.
00:16 "If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses." Right, but at the same time, it will become _less_ vulnerable to faulty patches, so there's that.

wow, those places are actually worse than the already 3rd world south america, here there are not internet cafes anymore since everyone has phones now
In Philippines most internet cafes had moved to win7 as base..lots of internet cafe kids like to play cf,lol and Dota xD
Bener
I wish there were still Internet cafes here. I loved to go to them in the 00s. Sadly all are gone now here :(
Actually in some South American countries like Colombia there are some Internet café business but they're not as common as it used to be in the mid to late 2000s and early 2010s.
Wish I could like twice or 3 times.. I wanted such a video for so long (I could have searched, but having this on my inbox was a blessing). Thanks so much!! Keep it up :D
looking at this makes me really miss XP, I'm sad microsoft ended support for it. It was really simple & made new windows users or even new computer users interested & wanting to learn, the fun colors, the customization, the design of everything is what people remember a lot. Everything is honestly better than windows 10 or anything from 8 & up, but microsoft wants to "focus on the future" or whatever they said
Regardless, thank you for making videos like this with older versions of windows or computers in general because not only are they interesting, they're a really nice look back as well as fun to watch. Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to cry while listening to 95's easter egg song "clouds.midi" while I look at the old wallpapers from previous Windows versions
They killed windows 7 too
Microsoft is stupid they keep throwing away Windows 95 then 98 then ME then 2000 then XP then Vista, 7! Next 10 and 11 soon. So stupid Microsoft is compelety damning stupid. From 95 to 7 are best. XP the champ king!
@@doggomoredoggo6547 at least we can get legacy updates and they are mostly useable
CPU: Core2Quad 2.6 GHz;
RAM: 4GB DDR2;
GPU: Ati Radeon HD 7770.
This was really helpful. My parents refuse to buy a new PC and they are using XP. It is an extremely outdated PC but you know how old people and parents work. "If it isn't broke, we don't need a new one".
8:35 that "close last tab with middle-click" icon lol
Great video ! I must say that on old PC with - Pentium 4 - 2.4 Ghz, 2 GB DDR RAM/PC3200 and GeForce 6600GT/128MB, Mypal runs really much fuster with a much less memory usage than K-meleon
Good hardware still matters 😉. Latest and greatest is .... Not usually...
Do you have GeForce 6600GT AGP or PCI-E ?
Do you have hardware acceleration for video decoding ?
@@xys007 I have it on AGP with hardware acceleration
Windows XP, the Windows I had grown up with until I started using Windows 7. My first Windows was actually Windows 95 (my great grandmother had it on her old computer and it worked remarkably well.)
I love that media center edition UI. Always looked so sleek
Thanks to this video I will go back to Windows XP again 😍😍😍
I was disappointed when Mozilla cut support for XP. I have an older laptop running XP which is still quite usable for light tasks, but the lack of a modern browser was a great limitation. So, it's nice to see there are some decent alternatives still.
Xp had lots of security issues. That was to discourage people from using it, otherwise people would be using it in 2022 as well!
This brought my old XP computer back to life. Thanks
"It really looks like a modern version of Firefox"
Looks like a 7 year old version of Firefox.
well thats still modern when it comes to windows xp
@@talvisota327 it looks like the version of Firefox I used when I last used XP (while it was supported/updated)

0:43 thank you, Michael, for using the Firefox quantum logo instead of the lame excuse of a logo Firefox is currently using.
Hey, I was watching the +100 floppy disks and this popped up on my notifications!
Ok.
5:50 That full screen lag is just something that happens on Pale Moon even on a modern PC with Windows 10.
I use Windows XP on my main pc every day and it works fine :D I watch this video on XP right now!

@Lazuko • It is! Windows XP has such a good ui and it's so nice to use
@Lazuko •I understand. You can't downgrade your pc?

My mind is blown that apparently K-Meleon still has a version that's updated that works on 9x!
They just updated 1.5.4 last January!
I mean, I'm sure it won't run Twitter and UA-cam, but that's still impressive.
I've got to give it a try, many sites in 9x are not working anymore, like the Wikipedia, due to new security protocols for wich Win9x have no updated certificates
@@HemangxVyas Wow! That's an amazing testament to the K-Meleon devs that they continue to support and update that old a version!
One of the things I really miss from old Firefox is the add-on that let you highlight search terms in your scrollbar...which will finally be an official feature in Firefox's 87.0 update that will come out this March 23, apparently. o.O
I literally just looked this up after watching this vid. Lol. Holy cow, can't wait.
Oh I had totally forgotten about that!
Mypal is dead now... :(
Hope the other browsers stay supported though. It would also be cool if Pale Moon could make Mypal open source, like the Classic Shell developer(s) did.
I'm still using Window XP😑😑

I feel so ahead, i got mypal before i saw any video talking about it
Same here! It was one of the few browsers that worked under Xp a couple years back!
@@uploadJ oh that's amazing! I found out about it last year i think, since chrome and Firefox weren't being that reliable.
I love Xp,my heart belong to Xp,my childhood belong to Xp .ohhhh those sound..😍
Mine belongs to Windows 98 and Windows XP
It's the bird or dark midus?
XP/Vista for me.
That 20% of the Mypal GUI that's just wasted space makes me anxious. But the knowledge that I'll never have to run XP again makes it better.

Finally. A video on K-Mellon
Graphics performance in a VM will be worse than directly mostly because you aren't talking to the GPU directly (unlike CPU virtualisation). So the video playback lag is expected and general UI responsiveness
It actually works far better in VM then on real machines ... I have tried a few ...
Wow, I thought K-Meleon is outdated browser because It doesn't load UA-cam, but I realized K-Meleon on my school PC isn't updated since 2013...
try to use them on native pc.

My Dell Mini 9 with a newly downgrade to Windows XP is happier than ever with using MyPal. Adblock is necessary for watching UA-cam on that machine, but it works. The Adblock I installed is a version for pale moon.
The best thing about Mypal is that it has a racoon.
Good video though

thanks for this, been trying to find one thats good for xp for ages, using a version of firefox atm thats pretty good but these look better
Update: MyPal has moved its codebase to be based on Firefox Quantum and while the version does have bugs from time to time, it works pretty well for the most part.
early congrats on 200k big boi, keep up the entertaining content !
00:16 "If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses."
Right, but at the same time, it will become _less_ vulnerable to faulty patches, so there's that.
