This video serves as an excellent representation of RAM and how so many people misunderstand it. A web browser using 200-300MB of RAM nowadays is not memory intensive by any stretch. 1GB is not intensive even, depending on the task you're performing at the time (streaming a HD video for example). Stop eying your RAM guys. Only time to start looking at it is if you're having performance issues. Even then, you're only looking for apps that constantly chew up more and more memory by the second without you even doing anything and not stopping (otherwise known as a memory leak). Otherwise, memory in use is a good thing. Apps cache things in RAM to help speed up fetching of data and improve performance. Your system will never take a hit as long as it doesn't run out of memory. Any percentage of free RAM, no matter how small is all good if your system's still performing. As an example, I've used a gaming laptop with 32GB RAM and an iMac with 8GB RAM. Percentage of RAM in use during regular computing has been more or less the same and performance hasn't taken a hit on the machine with less RAM. Speed of RAM is far more useful than the amount of it you have installed in your system and the speed of Random Access Memory is always gonna be faster than even SSD storage so caching in memory is good for performance, not bad. Sorry for the essay. It just always bugs me when people constantly refer to RAM in use as a metric.
Yeah. I don't understand why people opening task manager and be like "omg chrome takes 300 mb this is so horrible" while having enough memory to open more things in the system.
when you were opening up all those chrome tabs that reminded me of playing "Ram Management Tycoon" with my PC everytime i opened up a game since at the time i only had 4GBs of Ram
I have done this before but on a school account, downloading a lot of extensions as well as apps. Most were safe and others were just random useless stuff. It was interesting. I have gotten other 130 extensions. Though, after the trimester ended, I had to remove all of them since some interfered my work flow.
I always wondered how do those verification scams seem to be advertising legit products isn't that illegal on the other persons end because once I was trying to find something and found one of those sites and it wanted me to download a legit Disney game for 30 seconds I mean how does that work?
When someone wants to advertise their products, they sometimes ask a sketchy company to do it for them. The sketchy company says that everytime someone downloads their product the owner pays 20 cents, The owner agrees; BUT the company advertises it is verification scams and when the kids download it the owner will be happy it's getting someone downloads but he doesn't know that it's the kids that are only downloading it for free stuff, so when the kids realise it doesn't work they'll just delete the app and the owner has to pay 20 cents to the company because of the downloads it got.
These extensions likely have hidden malware or similar in the code. Ive seen lots of these that have this that logs keystrokes or can be used to execute a command and it likely goes to a server that then shoots an actual piece of malware when it doesnt detect it being in a virtual environment to avoid reverse engineering the malware.
