Nice job, just rotate that tube with pulley by 180 to pulley at the end stand facing upwards, so that the cable does not scrape over the edge of tebe, but goes directly from the winch to the pulley
I have a 2 ton engine hoist in my shop. Wanted to be able to pull pick up truck beds with it as I never have help .Made an extended boom for it and it works just fine. 20 years of use with no issues. You modification will be just fine.
My only concern is. You should put a guide or a pulley at the end of the boom. Where the winch cable touches the sharp edge. Or flip your extension 180°. So that the pulley is up.
I like how you show the little things like the chuck key was in the way. We all do it ...hahaha. I must say your awesome at utilizing your small shop space.
Lot of critiques in the comments but I think the biggest one besides not beefing up the base is that you should have cut off the old base for the gusset attachment. Welding the new 1/4” plate to the old plate did not increase the desired strength much more than it already was. Essentially you have a beefed up crane welded to the same thin gusset base plate.
Jimbo, you missed the doublers that go around the end of the outer tube. This helps the bearing load where the inner tube rests on the outer tube….like a trailer hitch.
Good project! Your plates could have been longer if you had flipped one over in layout. This would result in using all of the original plate, and each piece would have been longer. The two pins weren't really needed. There is no force on them when lifting. I can remove my pin with a load on the cable. Turn your extending boom over so the cable does not wear itself out on the boom. Excellent tool! ! !
I know of a shop that has a autocrane 3203 bolted on a work bench for lifting big truck axle housing and transmissions onto the table it is pretty cool
Awesome mod! Jimbo - you make every day for us that much better when you share your projects here for all of us to enjoy! Love your channel, love your projects, love how you just say it like it is. No pretense, nothing fake - just a real, honest hardworking guy sharing with others of the same. Thank you Jimbo - another one on the books and a great one at that! mikey
Cool, I somehow missed the vid' where the crane was bought and fitted, but it's a sound idea and much easier to do than an extendable ceiling crane that would need to be run out over the truck deck. You probably cut the winch plate of in the expectation you'd be re-using it on the now extension. The eye had three possible functions, as mentioned by others - it the winch was an option, a manual winch would need an anchor point to hang from; it would give an anchor point for the hook if a pulley block was used; somewhere to secure the hook out of the way. The problem with the cut-off saw was the heavy end wasn't supported - a bit of dunnage to support the weight would have solved that little hassle.
The eye on the bottom of the boom is to hook the crane hook to if you are using a snatch block and hook on the bottom of the line so you could make it 2:1
I'm guessing the hook on the bottom that you cut off was for doubling the line to increase the rating of the winch. You'd need an additional hook and pulley but it would let you lift more if the winch was maxing out, which it doesn't sound like you are.
Well jimbo you arent gettin any younger so you have to start working smarter. As far as shop tools i think the crane was one of the beest investments you couldve made. Anyways as always love seeing your projects and cant wait to see what you work on next 👍
I think I would have just added casters to the plasma table and rolled it closer to the truck’s tailgate and slid the material on to it. But that wouldn’t have been as fun to watch. Nice job Jimbo. 👍
You might want to reinforce the mouth of your main tube. Most tube in tube will be strapped at the mouth to work against the leverage of the inside tube cracking the mouth of the main tube. Take a look at trailer hitch receivers, among many.
I’ve never used a plasma cutter. I was surprised that your cut started with a pierce rather than the opposite direction. Clearly it wasn’t a problem and also cnc plasma tables pierce all the time. Still- I wonder if there’s a “standard” way to approach this. Better to pierce first, or better to enter from an open air side?
The ring you cut off the end of the crane arm could have been use to hook the lift wire on and use a pulley with a hook on it to speed up lift materials and increase lifting capacity
Great video!! Jimbo, what's the size of the shop area? And, what's the construction of the ceiling that can support the steel in the rack? I'm collecting ideas for an eventual home shop of my own. Thanks
It's a shame you didn't see my video before building yours, just the roller bearings inside the tube would have given you more flexibility. But your build is still a good improvement👍. Here is my video "MAKING A JIB CRANE FOR THE PLASMA TABLE"
Bom trabalho, mas se essa grua ficasse no chão com rodas giratórias e o peso contrabalançado era mais prático e tinha a mesa de trabalho independente mas cada um tem a sua maneira de trabalhar é só uma opinião
😮😮. ,,,JIMBO. YOU ARE SAD,,, WHY DID YOU CUT OFF RING ,❓. IT'S FOR SOMETHING ,👍. GOOD FOR LONGER ARM. BUT WHAT ABOUT BASE ⁉️ BEEF UP ❓. GOOD JOB ,,, BUT YOU SEEM TO NOT THINK THINGS THRU ,,,, EVEN SAY SO ,,
JIMBO YOU DON'T DO MUCH FAB ..LAYOUT ,,SHOULD OF DRILL & TAP BR FORE WELDING ,, PLATE ,,MOST LIKELY ORG. PLATE FROM CHINA LG. PLATE FOR OTHER SIZE OF WENCH USED. (( CHINA )) ,USE WHAT THEY HAVE

I was thinking maybe it's to connect the end of the cable when you don't use it. Now Jimbo ended up making extra hook at 26:24 just for the same use.
Don’t tell him that. Next the tables gonna flip
Yea its to hook on to use a snatch block and double the lift power
2 part line.

I think you missed an opportunity by making the main boom one foot longer out the back to add a counterweight. That would help balance out the load.
Классный ты мужик, Джимбо! С юморком))) Удачи в делах, крепкого здоровья и долгих лет жизни!
Very nice build/ upgrades! And God Bless the USA 🇺🇸

all he needs to do is flip the boom arm 180, I noticed that as well.
So true about the mag drill, you may not use it for weeks or a couple of months but they are sure handy when you need it. Nice little upgrade.
I like how you show the little things like the chuck key was in the way. We all do it ...hahaha.

Jimbo, I am sure by now you have figured out the ring the mounting point for machanical advantage when using pullies. Love the channel. Great video.

That’s an awesome and practical addition to the shop. two thumbs up! 👍👍
Your extension in in upside down. Thats why the rope rubs on the boom.
@ 25:40 he has it installed correctly. He must have reversed it off camera.
Good project!

great project Jimbo, best regards from Venezuela
Hello Jimbo, can you make a video of the different types of welder u have using, thanks in advance

Very nice work Jimbo.. i love the way you over engineer everything, just like the government... It will last a long time...
I think that the loop that you cut off was to keep the cable from chafing.
Another great job looks the part and definitely very useful 👍
Anything that makes your life easier it is win
God bless America, love it. I remember that being heavy. Oh no it’s heavier.
I think I would have just added casters to the plasma table and rolled it closer to the truck’s tailgate and slid the material on to it. But that wouldn’t have been as fun to watch. Nice job Jimbo. 👍
It’s for using a snatch block JIMBO!
Good one Jimbo, I need a crane...dang stuff keeps getting heavier. Lol
ATB.....

the eye was so the winch pulls on a loop rather than a straight line to double its lift capacity

God Bless America!!!
I paint all my crane shtuff Lego Yellow. Also....you need a drink holder added to your mod.
THE EYE IS FOR A SNATCH BLOCK SO THE WINCH CAN PULL TWICE ITS WEIGHTED CAPACITY HOWEVER WILL SLOW IT DOWN BY HALF.
Material is metric stock

Great mod to your shop crane.
Don't worry about your big fat belly, it's paid for. Just like mine. 😅
👍👍
seems like now it is too long for the welding table.
👍✌
@ 26:44. Truly; GOD Bless the USA. GOD, Country, Family.
First 3 minutes looked like Snoop Dogg was nearby.
Nothing wrong with over engineering. Built it as strong as needs to be and than half again

I do believe you have the extension with the pully on it up side down. that rope on the winch is scraping the top of the beam.
Especially if your back is bad hell of a idea
Your paint doesn't match the post
