  • I made this light up heavy duty metal bench for Black Stallion to take to FabTech this year. This was a really fun build and I think the end result was better than expected. Being able to turn the welding jackets into the bench seat was the finishing touch that really made this bench unique.

Coolest expo bench that I've seen! Absolutely love that light up back.
Don't envy the salesman tasked with lugging it around though! 😂

Great build. If anyone throws shade on your welds, ask them how many followers they have on UA-cam or if Black Stallion asked them for anything. Never let perfect get in the way of good enough!

I feel your pain over that 1/8 " of an inch.. We make mare and foal stocks here in Ireland.. and I recently spend over 5 hours altering our cutting table and welding jig for less than 6mm oversize on one piece... Nobody would notice it, but I knew it was there, so it had to go.

I built a wooden ladder shelf, and it took so long. It had to be dead perfect. I took hours, setting up the table saw to make sure it cuts perfectly. The legs had to be exactly the same length, etc etc etc. I built a shed, same thing! 🤣 I really put the love in my work. I want solid products, I want to be sure, you cannot say anything bad about it. I want to make sure you couldn't come up with a single flaw, as if the customer cares as much as I do. That's why I love steel more than wood, you can always rework it. With wood, you cut it wrong, it's all over lol

Penetrol is great for raw steel like this; some sort of Danish oil that hardens; a lot of hot rod builders will use it to seal exposed metal. Also acts as a primer for raw steel for something like poly.
Where most clearcoats will rust underneath (apart from dangerous things that self etch), this stuff stops rust pretty hard.

Interesting how some people's OCD works. I have the same problem. 1mm out of square on that size will never be noticed, but I will wrestle with it for an hour to get it perfect.
Even that button welds for the backrest will be precisely measured out from the middle outwards.

Well Mr. Jimbo during this very excellent video it seemed to me you were doing a lot of apologizing for your workmanship!!! (That saddens me greatly.) There's always people it seems on the internet world that actually never have done anything, never have accomplished anything and Know even Less... They can point a finger of Shame at those that do!!! Keep up the great videos you're doing a wonderful job!
And I know that thousands of others appreciate your efforts!
PS Black Stallion makes great products! And no I don't work for them.

Coming from ship repair, 1/8" is not heavy duty. We call 1/8" 'sheet metal'. The benches in our shop usually are all 1/2" thick minimum on the materials. When a table weighs a ton or two, it stays where you put it.
    Other than that, nice table.
