Shop issue. My local shop will pull anything off the wall toss on a D loop and a Biscuit and let you try the bow out… if you want it set up after the sale then they put in the work for perfect draw length/weight setup where you want it (and they have a small setup charge for that) but charge a setup fee just to test the bare bow you think you may want is a bit too much.

I would say PSE does have a problem with their dealer network. I live in the middle of WI and have to drive 90 miles to find the nearest dealer and he only carries 1-2 models and never anything over 32" so I bought a used NXT 35. Like the bow but they need better dealers in WI. When I emailed them and asked PSE who there biggest dealer was in WI I called that dealer and they did'tn have any in stock and was't sure if they would be getting any in before fall. 🤔

When I got into archery about 5 years ago I went to our local archery shop. I went in and said I would like to get sized up for a bow. They looked at me like I was stupid. I didnt know anything about archery except that the bow had to fit. I am 6'3 with a 33 in dl. I had to explain that I wanted to get into archery and needed to know what size bow I needed. They checked me out but acted like I was annoying them. The only bow they had close was a $2500 hoyt target bow that went to 32 in. And that was the bare bow no nothing on it. I was like " I am not paying 2500 bucks to find out next week I dont even like archery". I left so angry. I went 5 blocks away to bass pro shops and the guy came out and started talking to me showing me the bows and brands. Measured me and sized me up and told me straight up " i dont have anything that will fit you right but i have a few that you can try and i can show you how to fudge and be able to shoot them to see if you like it or not" He spent 4 hours set up 4 bows and let me shoot and shoot and shoot and shoot. I left and went home to talk to my wife and went back a couple hours later and bought a complete setup. The next week i went back and bought a 2nd setup so i could teach others also. Point being..... I agree with you completely. A shop that appreciates you is so important.

Hey Brandon, we started watching back in the solo Utah hunt days. We have always appreciated your honest opinions and reactions. We have done similar types of projects on our channel. As customers and consumers we have had similar bow shop experiences. Unfortunately there are a small minority of archery people on social media and in some shops that have an “elitist attitude”. I don’t think that this is exactly what you were explaining, but this is what pushed us to do more of the “shop stuff” for ourselves. Keep doing what you are doing! Speak the truth!

You should change the title to “Why I’m not Shooting a PSE,” instead of the current title, that shop doesn’t represent PSE as a brand. I had a PSE that developed a small crack in the limb which fell under warranty, took it to the closet PSE dealer for them to repair. When I got the bow back, it was completely jacked up, there was no way I was going to take it back to them, nor was I going to pay another shop to make it right. I called PSE and explained what happened, they told me to send it in and they’d get it back in order. When I received the bow back, it was as good as the day I bought it brand new, I was extremely pleased with my experience with them. On the setup cost, that is crazy for something you want to try before you buy. I bought a Vertix last summer from a shop in Savannah, GA, I shot several bows before making my decision, none of which they charged me for. In fact, they didn’t even charge me for the setup and paper tune, only the bow and accessories.

I can understand your motivation behind waiting for John and PSE to strike paydirt down the road, but the other complaints you mentioned are unfortunately a shop problem. They should have that thing looped and rest installed from the second they get it into the shop, not charge customers to do what is expected of them. So far, John has made some nice changes, but I will be excited to see what is on the horizon.

Totally get where you’re coming from Brandon. I would’ve told that shop to pound sand on the spot. Those PSEs are not difficult to setup. Probably would have taken 5-10 minutes to get that thing setup for a few test shots and the fact that they aren’t even interested in getting an unsold 2020 Evo series bow in stock is ridiculous. I would never set foot in that place again. That being said, if it’s not gonna lead to divorce then I would find a way to at least put a few shots through one of the 2020 Evo bows at another shop and maybe add it to your lineup for review. The Evolve Cam has got to be one of the best draw cycles I’ve tried, highly adjustable with regards to draw length and lettoff, and last year PSE beefed up their flagship models with 1/4 inch axles that do not flex like the 3/16 axles they were formerly running. You’re definitely missing out on a very sweet bow if you don’t give the PSE EVOs a try.

I called the rep in my area and told his wife what had happened and her first words were, Are you hurt?. I said no but I got to have this bow fixed for next weekends shoot. You are 100% correct. As a shop owner in TN also, I would never charge a setup fee for a bow I am selling. I only have to charge if someone brings in a bow that I didn't sell them and that fee would be for my time. Also, the reason they probably aren't going to carry any of the new PSE bows is because they cannot sell them. I know of multiple shops that are still sitting on PSE's from 3 years ago that they can't sell. It's hard to carry a brand that you can't sell 3-5 bows per year when you can turn over 150-200 Mathews per year.

@@brandonmcdonald6121 There is very little difference in the RX4 and RX3. The feedback I've gotten from customers has been they wouldn't spend the money to trade for such small change from last year. Me, personally, I'm not a fan of a bow with exposed yokes or binary cams. Mathews has a perfect design and they are geometrically equal top to bottom and thus the tune-ability is so easy. The only negative I see is the same with pretty much every bow from the factory and that is the strings and cables are not good quality. I change out 95% of all of my new bows to GAS strings and it is a game changer.

On one hand it's hard to hold the actions of the shop against PSE, but since that would, by default, become your "home" shop if you chose the PSE, it's hard not to. I admire that you're not "calling out" the shop for your experience. There could be circumstances that make them feel like they have to do that. However, service is the only thing they have to offer over buying online and if they can't provide that, there's no reason to do business there.

He told me , this is for a solid sale only... I have to pay for using the range.
....I laughed at this sellers scam , and showed him my $1200 in cash, and told him, I will go to the other archery store, with my money, down the road..LOL
The boss of the archery shop, chased me & stopped me in the parking lot, and asked me what happened..
"I told him, that I don't work with Scammers, not pay money to test a bow...I came to buy a new recurve and now I'll take my money elsewhere. "
I told this experience to the other archery dealer, down the road...and she was laughing at how they've been making more business, cause of this scam going on there....she gave me a 20% discount & free stringer , with three basic arrows, and a promise to send them another customer, in the future. Interestingly enough there is a local bow shop to me in Indiana that did the same thing. Needless to say I did not buy a bow from them. The owner told me that once it is shot by a customer that doesn't buy it they have to sell it as used, which sure I guess I can see that. However, I have always felt that to know the bow is right for you then you have to have the ability to test it.

When I saw the title of the video I was super curious to investigate and was surprised how well you explained your views and concerns.
As a former bow shop owner and Mechanical Engineer by trade. I can vouch that of all the brands we had the one brand that I had to eat my words was PSE. Ever since 2017 they have cranked that company’s performance, quality, designs and service to an Eleven. With that being said if they really were not on your radar before Dudley switching over to them then I would wait. I have confidence that the future designs and features will be impressive. Yet I don’t really see hopping on the bandwagon over this NTN33. In fact I would stay with the regular NXT33 instead. As far as right now the brands that have just been putting out pure gold currently are Mathews and Prime. Granted I’m not a fan of the grip placement and shooting dynamics of the prime but that doesn’t take away from the incredible quality, finishes, improvements in tuning and just a flat out clean execution of design on Primes part. Also what ever fire got lit under Mathews rear end has been impressive these last few years. It speaks a lot when a company that is already at the tip top continues to raise the bar on service, tuning, designs and quality. With all that being said PSE has truly been exponentially raising their bar higher and higher ever year, at this rate plus the added muscle of guys like Cousins and Dudley coming over are going to be exciting to see the future. However, the current line is nice, flip a coin between it and some other brands and you can’t go wrong but where it will get exciting is future designs. As for “that” shop I would just avoid. Heck that might be a policy of theirs they drop eventually due to it being a sure fire way to turn business away. We charged if you brought a bow/accessories not purchased in house. If bought in house it was free set up. Nearly every shop in the nation has that same logic, I guess not those guys. Good luck on your reviews and product testing!

It's a fine line to tow in the archery market especially in this day.

You can put a D-loop and whisker biscuit on in about three minutes, no way that should cost $30. As for shops not ordering the PSE bows this year, I am not shocked. I have been watching shops all over SC drop PSE because the evokes sold horribly. Now that reviews are coming out on the NTN, it is a good look. Shops are having to reshim the bows completely to get them to tune correctly.
I switched away from PSE after shooting them for over a decade. The evolve cam is great, but the feel of the bow, the grip, etc were not as good as the bows just a few years before. I would pick a decree hd ti over and evolve or evoke any day of the week.
