    The average bow shooter can not shoot 100 yards lol... so i would assume the crossbow is going to be the winner for most humans.

      Crossbows will always lose free-standing, at any distance, given the same caliber of shooter. 3D comps results speaks volumes about that.

    Great video comparison man! Every crossbow has a “sweet spot” and every crossbow is accurate. Once you get accustomed to shooting the crossbow regularly and once you get used to how it shoots they are deadly accurate. I used a Barnett Revolution XS that I bought for $400 when everyone else was using Ten Point and Excalibur crossbows that cost well over $1000 and none of my hunting buddies could shoot anywhere near as accurately as I could with the Barnett. Barnett was originally viewed as cheap garbage but I smoked a long list of deer and black bear with my Barnett and I still have it and still use it until this day. Crossbows are just like compound bows, you shoot what you like and then make adjustments from there. You don’t need to have the big brand names to shoot well. I have a friend that’s in his 70’s and he’s also a great taxidermist and he still uses his old Fred Bear compound bow that most younger people would laugh at, it’s ancient !! But he can snap a pencil in half at 60 yards 9/10 shots. Make your own path and practice practice practice. Don’t worry about what expensive equipment everyone else is using, use what works for you and just keep shooting and practicing. Practice makes perfect

      I am 58 & have a friend who is 60 & he still shoots a Fred Bear 4 wheel compound bow that he bought brand new some 45 years ago & he shoots it like a scope centerfire varmint rifle out to 50 meters.He is unbelievable to watch on rabbit,hares & foxes here in Australia.
      Like you said,practice,practice, practice & know your equipment.
      I don't understand the archers that change bows every 2 years!

    For the crossbow, bring that cheek riser up and get more than the toe of the butstock into your shoulder. Also lean forward to mitigate recoil instead of backwards (even more important on crossbows than guns because of the long lock time)

  • @BH-ro4ly

    I guess it comes down to the sacrifice between accuracy and reload time. Crossbows are more accurate but take way longer to reload and bows are less accurate but reload time is way quicker.

      @ElGoogKO 8 годин тому

      Depends what your end logic is.
      Because even if compound bow is easier to hold, at one point shooter will be tired faster than crosbow...and if you get tired on a crossbow you can always find a nearby fallen trunk or anything and use as a base.
      Besides there are the reloading crossbows with a magazine of 10ish bolts ^_^
      And a legolas upgrade for bows as well with amagazine of arrows ^_^

    I was in the market to buy my first crossbow and was thinking about a TenPoint but after I watched this video I bought a Mission sub 1. I have owned a Mathews compound with round cams and they are really smooth and I know the round cams are smooth and quieter than the really aggressive cams. I also like the way this crossbow loads and the de-cocking function. Chris Bee is amazing to watch and his expertise is really valuable. I have three months to learn to use the crossbow before deer season starts. Great video Chris Bee!

    I’d love to see you shoot something like a TenPoint Flatline 460. The reverse draw moves the balance point of the crossbow from the front to over the trigger… making it much more stable and accurate. The Flatline launches a 400 grain bolt at 460 fps (a bolt that’s 100 grains heavier almost 100 fps faster than the Sub-1), and is considered one of the most accurate crossbows out there. The extra weight and speed of the bolt, and the ergonomics of the platform, will tighten up your group even more.

    When drawing the crossbow back and using the pulley system you have use it the exact same way every single time. Any slight variation will throw it off an inch at 20 yards, 10 inches at 100 yards.
    Consistancy with drawing the bow is very important. Keep the hooks on the pulley against the rail while on the string.

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 5 місяців тому

      Has more to do with your cams being timed than cocking it. Any variation in your cam timing will throw off your shots. That's part of tuning a crossbow or compound bow as well. It's really simple if you put the compound bow in a press and take off the string/cable tension. Twisting the cable on the cams times them so they both rest and rotate in a synchronized fashion. Many times it only take a few turns or one turn either right or left. You can quickly spot if your cams are out of time by putting a dot of White Out on each side of the rail channel even on both sides. When fully cocked are they still straight? If not your crossbow is out of time and needs tuned for optimal accuracy.

    • @carcasscruncher9354
      @carcasscruncher9354 5 місяців тому

      @@JohnDoeEagle1 makes sense, however it still needs pulled back and set evenly regardless of how tuned it is. It can be perfectly tuned and still be off by several feet at 100 yards if not pulled back and set the exact same way consistently. Have one hook off an inch on the pull back and the bolt will be off at least a ft at 100 yards. Guaranteed.

    As someone who's used both, Crossbows are easy to be over confident with, rush shots and do not stabilize near as good as a compound bow. I've only ever used mid grade bows and a high end Xbow (Ravin R29) a crossbow with a bipod would be super deadly in certain hunting situations but I think crossbows will wound a lot of deer in the future, more than a compound bow. Thanks for bringing this to light Chris.

      I agree with your comment. But from my own personal experience (I hunt with a compound as well as a recurve crossbow) I have seen more deer wounded from inexperienced compound shooters. Obviously this isn’t the case with everyone but I have never lost a deer with my cross bow and I have lost one several years ago with my compound likely due to shot angle making it an unfair comparison on my end. I shoot the compound for the enjoyment but I grab the crossbow to feed the family 😊 enjoy, stay safe

    I've shot indoor target 5 spot and can absolutely hold my Hoyt Easton Pro Medalist compound bow steadier than my reverse draw TenPoint Nitro XRT crossbow when not using a a rest of any kind. But using a mono pod with the Xbow or off a rest the XRT is like a rifle.
    The long draw length of the reverse draw is also a game changer. I prefer the compound bow as it's more rewarding. The XRT is to easy as it's so forgiving. The compound bow takes a lot of practice to be consistent. Any slight change in grip or release causes fliers. Once you settled in your groups tightened right up.👍
    Nice shooting.😎

    I'm 57 so I'm the same age as compound bows. It's been wild watching all the advancements over the years. I owned a few back in the early 80's but I went back to just shooting bare recurves because I think it's more more fun , plus I'm not hunting so accuracy isn't super critical . I did get to handle a friends compound recently and the balance was just insane . It would be fun to try it out at a range just to see what I could do. Never owned or shot a crossbow but I bet that would be cool too.

    If you mount the crossbow on a tripod for stability, you will get dead solid grouping that way. Crossbows are a lot heavier, your arms will get tired and you start to shake after a few shots. If you are hunting, you usually sit tight in one place with it mounted and ready to go. pain to carry around as you are walking to your hunting spot or even scouting, but the shots speed and placement are no match to any other bows. I still like to have a compound or recurved bow just in case and for fun! great video bud!🤙

    Throughout the video, I saw no attempt to dial in the crossbow, but several times with the compound. While there are several comments about the crossbow being “easier”, I submit that both have a different set of techniques and both have to completely mastered in order to shoot for the equipment to meet its ability. Think about it. A compound shooter spend a great deal of time practicing in order to do everything the same. A crossbow shooter is akin to a rifle shooter who does exactly the same thing (breathing and same shoulder pressure were mentioned in the video). Both can be extremely accurate in the hands of master! Thanks Chris, you truly are a master with the compound!

    If you would have lubricated the arrow flight rails after every two or the shots with the cross bow it would have defeated the compound bow. You had to keep adjusting your sight pins on the compound bow to get it to hit the target but even with the sight pin tweaking it still didn’t shoot as good as the cross bow did. If you had of lubed the cross bow rails the cross bow would have won the contest easily.

    It matters on the way you hold the cross bow it’s like holding a gun you don’t want to death grip the gun or crossbow. Just hold it where ur hand is pushing agents the grip on the cross bow and push down in a slight angle and it should help with the recoil and accuracy or replace the grip with a vertical grip and that should increase ur accuracy. By 100% and if u do Replace the grip with a vertical grip don’t grab it like u would with a actual stick just put ur had in front of the grip like ur holding a burger and push down in a slight angle and put ur hand in a slight angle.

    This will helo trigger breaking canting and bouncing. Making your groups slightly better. All in all not bad at all.
    Compounds will still out perform crossbows but these skills will get you better.

    i'm medically unable to use a standard bow. I have an ICD(implantable defibrillator) and they've had guys rip the lead out of their heart drawing a bow. My crossbow has a crank and i can smoke tight groups at 50 yards no issue. I've never tried 100 yards but i suspect i wouldn't be a big deal with it. I started hunting with bow last year and got my first deer(8 pointer) this September. Shot it at 30 yards, went straight through without an issues. Ran about 50 yards and dropped dead. I'm thoroughly hooked on bow hunting now though. A lot of bow guys trashed me for using crossbow saying its not real bow hunting but if that's the case then recurves are the only thing those "real bowhunters" should be using

    Very interesting and nice video. I would love to try to shoot crossbow. But they are illegal in Denmark (you need a weapons license and a police approved range to shoot it). But maybe someday I'll get there. But else I shoot a 42# 30" ATA compound bow, with a draw length of 25½". :-) Mostly for 3D with regards to competitions, but for practice almost only target archery. It is appr. 35 years since I got into archery, but I only started to shoot compound appr. 12 years ago. Well ok, I had a compound bow 30 years ago, because I took a bowhunting licence with it, but I didn't shoot very much with it. And these last 12 years or even longer, I haven't in general shot longer distances than 30 m, because that is my max distance for 3D and because when I tried I didn't shoot well at the longer distances. But during the last few weeks, I have started to out to 50 and 60 m. And it is going surprisingly well, so I am starting to like it. So during the next week, I'll try to get sight marks at the longer distances up to 90 m.
    It's interesting to see that the compound bow wins this challenge. But I guess the challenge with crossbow is that you really have to hold it tight and still plus the short arrows are more unstable in flight. But it its very nice to see that you can shoot a 29 p. round with compound at 100 yards. But it is even more impressive, because it looks like the target faces are 80 cm center faces and not 122 cm, that would be the WA standard at 100 yards / WA (if there still was an official WA round at this distance). Very nice!!

    When you bench rest the crossbow it is sick. My neighbor bought the cheapest PSE on Ebay, $289.00 with arrows. He never even set the scope. 1st shot, 20 yards and 2nd shot 30 yards I used the cross, 40 yards the next line down, 50 the second line and 60 I had to shoot from across the street while he watched for traffic. I used the third line. There was 1 hole in my new foam target, dead center. Blew me away and ruined the center of my foam block. Still use my compound though. Never ran out and bought one.

    A crossbow would be a serious advantage over a compound especially with a rest. Much flatter trajectory, less susceptible to range errors, better penetration, etc... But, crossbows are not allowed in archery only seasons in Idaho. If they were, we probably would not be allowed to hunt elk in the rut, or mule deer in winter range. I would if they would let me, but I would also use a sling shot if I had to to be able to hunt longer seasons at the best times of the year. Maybe they should eliminate some rifle draw hunts in ID and replace them with general season cross bow (or even archery) hunts instead.

    I used to shoot competition archery 3d field archery and indoor dots. I realized shooting field archery how accurate a compound bow was! I shot a novelty shoot at 95 yard standing bear target I had fixed pins shot seven arrows missed completely with the first put the last three in the kill with the last being dead center! No one came close to beating me. That was many years ago! My eyes nor my strength is up to that anymore but I love shooting a bow! Great shooting Young man! Keep on keeping on!

    For hunting reasons , I would want the crossbow because it can hold a drawl for basically 24/7 , and you may need to hold back until you get the best shot lined up . Which , I think I would also want a shooting stick/rest . Speaking of shooting sticks : do you know of any that are micro adjustable ; I'm thinking one that has that finger paddle/trigger lock that you find on AR stocks to adjust stock length in mind , but a push button might be ok , not 💯 sure though .

    So I recently got into archery and picked up an older Hoyt Rampage. I'm getting 4" groups at 40 yards so i'm def improving. (Going outside for an hour every day after work and shooting 50 arrows). I want to pick up a UV3 but not sure what mount ect I would need. Any chance you can assist me on what to pick up? I know its an older bow but once I get something new and the wife gets over the sticker shock i'll be transferring everything over lol.

    I use a crossbow for this very reason. Compounds take way too much practice and don't hit as hard and just less chance to mess it up. Bow hunting is already tough....why use a bow thats more difficult?
