    Just came across your channel. Really like what your putting out. With doing both target archery (Indoor and 3D), I’ve learned a lot and I feel a lot of guys who just hunt don’t like the target side because they think it doesn’t apply but my hunting bow is set up exactly like my target bow and I’ve never had a problem with drawing in a deer, even with multiple deer in the field or timber.

    Great Video. I have shot many compound bows over the last 40 yrs and I believe the lower let-off forces the shooter use proper form.
    I owned a Browning Compound Bow in the early 80s that had the option of 50% or 35% let-off.

    I got a Bear Divergent last fall and I've had the string pop off TWICE due to the let-off being too high. The first time I had a doe underneath me and I decided not to shoot.. when I tried to let down it snapped forward and my string popped off. The same thing happened again today while I was practicing.

    Learning a lot from all you videos Thanks. Quick question Im shooting an Xpedition mako x. And its a solid back wall but the valley is exactly how you describe, when letting down you almost feel as if you have to push it forward. What I think your saying is that if I want them to to feel more responsive I have to move the limb stops up so that it doesn't sit so far into the valley. I actually have no issue shooting accurately and consistently out to 60 yards as its currently set up but like to play around with my set up to see what works best for me. Thanks and keep the videos coming. Would love a video on adjusting timing and tension on a trophy taker limb driven rest.

    I actually like less than 85% letoff even for hunting because I feel I can hold the pin steadier since it forces me hard on that back wall and hence makes my hold more solid. This is even more so one treestand where it is easier not to notice that you are slacking on the backwall as you shoot downward (from a different angle than that from which we practice from the ground).

      I shoot 75lb recurve all the time. I agree with you that some back tension is required to hold the bow steadily.

  • @sovietrepublic38
    @sovietrepublic38 Рік тому

    I do recurve target shooting using a 75 lb bow. Also take 10-15 sec to aim (Yes, holding 75lb for 10-15 sec for every shot).
    Over time, my bow hand needs at least 30-40lb tension to hold the bow steadily. When the back tension gets too low, my form becomes lousy and the sight moves like a drunk man.
    I tried my friend's compound bow and probably holding something like 15lb at full draw...I cannot aim at all because by bow hand doesn't have sufficient tension to keep steady.
    I guess recurve shooters generally need compound bow with much lower let-off.

    Do you have experience in adjusting let off on Bowtech Realm SS. I did mine by moving the module ahead by 1/2 inch and keeping the draw stops in place. This defiantly reduced the let off but also made the bow hard to hold . My accuracy improved because I can no longer relax in the shot and I can feel that the arrows goes exactly were I release it. But holding at full draw is defiantly a new experience.

    Hey man love your videos . I have a question. I got a new bow and after about 800 shots the string snapped where the peep was tied in. It was A PSE drive X and it was Set to 65 lbs. It is not too heavy for me . Nothing broke but the string and the plastic piece on the slider that offsets the string away from the fletchings. I don't think I derailed it as Im using a mechanical release. Have you seen or heard of this before?

    • @InsideOutPrecision
      @InsideOutPrecision  4 роки тому +2

      If the string broke where the peep was I'm guessing the peep cut the string, but that would be very odd after that few shots. Send me a pic on Instagram at inside_out_precision. Nothing like that should have happened unless the arrow/nock broke when you fired the bow, or the peep you were using had sharp edges that cut the string.

    Personal preference, but I like lower letoff (70-80%) but I don’t like less valley. I have the lower letoff mods for my Traverse and VXR 31.5 and I prefer the increased holding weight of those modules but hate the lack of valley. It feels like you are about to get into the valley and it stops you. The older bows that had a max letoff of 75-80% seemed to be better in that respect.

    I shoot a Vertix with 85% mods. I have noticed that I shoot more accurately when I have my higher poundage switch weight mods on. The difference seems to be holding weight, and it seems I am better with more holding weight than less. Thinking about getting the 80% let off mods because of this. Thanks.

    Does high let off slow the arrow speed relative to a low let off cam for a given arrow weight? I’m at 28” draw length and interested in keeping the speed as high as possible for hunting arrows. I feel like the difference in holding weight for 75% vs 85% at 70lbs would be negligible or at least worth training for if it keeps the speed closer to IBO...

    • @InsideOutPrecision
      @InsideOutPrecision  4 роки тому

      I mean you're only gonna gain like 3 fps going with the lower let off. Not much much of a difference and for a hunting set up I think you'll want to keep the higher let off in case you have to hold at full draw waiting for a clear shot.

      depends on situation of bow use. Being someone that strictly uses their both to hunt.... I would always be 80% of above, even for practice.... NOW, if you hunt, but also target shoot somewhat seriously, then going down to 65-75 has a real advantage in the target world. I began archery for hunting, but have not hunted in a very long time with a bow.... I got into target archery in 2016 with a PSE supra. Shot at 75% for quite some time... the newer bows I shot around 2018, i went to 70%....65 was just tooo jumpy. The biggest difference to me is the draw cycle. Whether the bow has the "hmp an dump" type draw, or a straight back linear draw. I began to love the linear draw cycles on many target bows. Now I shoot 75% again, but with a very linear draw feeling. 70-75% is ideal for target shooting. Some guys do still run 80% but I find the draw cycles get to "lump and dump" feeling. The PSE evolve cam, either the EC or SE with low let off modules set at 70-75% is perfect for target shooting IMO... I also have a TRX 38 G2 with 75% mods that feeels great. Nice linear straight back pull....everyone has their preferences... just gotta find yours.

  • @krisswolf2011

    I am confused, what does the letoff percentage mean?
    At first when I was researching to buy, I thought 70% letoff means “force required to hold at wall decreases by 70% after the hump” and a 90% letoff means “force required to hold at wall decreases 90% after the hump”, which means that the 90% bow takes less force to hold at the wall.
    But then at Bass Pro, I was looking at a 75-90% bow, and the pro shop technician said 75 is the light extreme of that bow. This means let off actually means “percentage of peak weight required to hold it at wall”, so a 70% bow would take less force to hold at the wall than a 90% bow.
    So which is it?

    • @InsideOutPrecision
      @InsideOutPrecision  3 роки тому +1

      If you have 75% let off, you're holding 25% of whatever your draw weight is. 90% let off means your only holding 10%. Much easier to keep a high let off bow at full draw, but many experienced shooters prefer more holding weight because its helps them hold steadier. If you have a high let off bow, you have to pull harder into the back wall to achieve that same holding weight.

    • @murder0ne

      Vertix for switchweight mod flexibility. Traverse if you have super long draw length. TX-5 (current gen Triax) if you want the fastest bow possible (per draw weight) and have a short enough draw length to deal with the extreme string angle. I've shot all three and I bought a Vertix. Also, Vertix can go up to 75 pounds, Traverse and TX-5 only 70.

      Youll be fine with the 85%. There aren't any other options other than the 80% mods. Why did you buy a V3 for target archery? I mean its a great bow and will work fine, but I'm curious.

    • @Helikopterpop
      @Helikopterpop 2 роки тому

      @@InsideOutPrecision actually I liked the hunting look and the back folded limbs. I competed in archery 20 years ago but then I quit. And recently I got my fathers hoyt 4500. But buying new modules to such an old bow to increase the draw length was more expensive than the bow was worth. So I fell for the hype around the V3 as a compromize for the looks. Maybe not the smartest, but I have no regrets. Maybe the wise would be some of the longer riser vrx models or something? But target bows are often so ugly and with ugly colors. :) I like my stone colored bow with hamskea trinity fall rest and axcel xp 9" sight, and stan release. Even though that button release was shifted with the trigging action the "wrong way", instead of pulling the thumb towards the palm, the release is triggerd by pushing the thumb barrel away from the palm. Is that a new thing? :)
