I’ve been riding for 50 years; long and hard on many (many!) bikes. Here’s the odd thing. I have absolutely zero loyalty to a manufacturer. Kind of like each one for different reasons. However, when I look back, I happen to have owned more Suzuki’s than any other brand. Literally, I’ve put over 400 000 kilometers on Suzuki’s- with almost no problems. That testimonial aside, the brand seems to have never been able to market itself in a way that attracted diehard loyalty. Maybe that’s what attracts me to the brand - they don’t trump performance with pretentiousness?

Indeed. Suzuki is one of the very few manufacturers which really made bikes according to the reality. Others were just making bikes for the insecures who worry about their looks or status when sitting on something with two wheels while giving them headache later when it is broken. It is exactly true that Suzuki are not the summit of performance that others can top it in this particular subject, but still it is undisputed that Suzuki is one of those which are the best in practicality and reliability. The reality is that the majority of us riders want to ride with less annoying problems that hit us frequently and the fact that almost everywhere have what the bike needs without much waiting for us when a problem to the bike arise.

Nothing else was done and she's as comfortable as my living room easy chair, IMHO.. lol The upright position with a sport bike look, is exactly what I wanted. I love it and she's still going strong with zero problems. I did add a power commander 5 to smooth out the throttling response to near perfect now. I put on an M4 full exhaust and she sounds meaner now. But i will say that I kept the stock exhaust just in case. IMHO the stock exhaust on this bike is the best sounding stock exhaust i've ever heard. It's not bad at all. I put the M4 on her, simply because i had bought the exhaust before i got the bike and rode her for any length of time. So i had to switch. Excellent review Mark. Interesting you said that there were no issues with an abrupt throttle response, as this seems to be an issue on the naked version.
Hi Kevin ,no I found no issues with abrupt throttle ,I had heard about that ,maybe it's just the big names like mcn etc being really picky or they have sorted it out now all the best mark
Just picked up a leftover 2018 GSX-S1000F. I tell you, the Suzuki is a hell of a value. The engine, the handling, braking, and overall feel of the bike is top-notch. I think it is the most supersports like performance of the 3, but I tell you it is comfortable too. Really think hard about the Z900 and look at the gear ratios. If you want a wheelie machine maybe the Z900 would be a good choice... but otherwise I've heard complaints about the stock gearing.... it is rather short for the torque of the bike.
@@justinsmith1001 Never had a problem with the Z900 gearing you mention. It has tremendous low down and mid range punch [more than the CB1000R] and handles a treat. The GSXS 1000S and F models are great bikes for the money but they need a bit of an update since they have remained unchanged for years now. The dash is a rather dated cheap looking [the Z900 has a lovely full colour TFT] affair and it could do with a quickshifter. Still a tremendous bike mind you.
Nice review Mark. Looks of the bike reminds me of bird in Angry Birds game (my son plays). Strange but true. Ah, it has the engine from the k5 you discussed. Wondering if you can get bar lowering kit and clipons.
A great bike and top review thanks Mark, like you I would have a garage full of bikes there are so many excellent machines on the road these days. From your recent batch of reviews the bike that has really caught my eye is the Kawasaki 636 with the quick shifter, how much fun could you have with that beast on a quiet Sunday morning doing some scratching. Lets see how my finances go this year and maybe a second bike will appear 😉 take care mate and thanks again for taking the time out to show us all of these lovely machines.

Hey Mark! Nice piece, mate. I love this bike! I ride an '11 GSX1250 FA. Bought her new and still ride it on a regular basis. But it is getting older. This GSX-S could be a fine replacement for it should it ever let go. The Ninja 1000 is a nice bike as well but I'm a bigger guy and feel too cramped on it. That is why I have been keen to keep the FA! It's the Gentleman's Express, if you will. Anyway, I love this GSX-S. If I didn't have the FA I would have one of these. It's a truly great bike for the road. Cheers!
Im only 5ft 6 and ride a standard height v strom 1000 xgt 2018(850mm). This bike has an 810mm seat height although might be a tad bit wider. I do use German para boots so that I can tip toe. As long as you don't grab the front brakes at low speeds, you will be fine.
Hi Mark, I've had my 20my for 6 weeks now and absolutely love it, the stability and handling in both wet and dry conditions is fantastic even on the oe Dunlop's and that K5 is just pure class, what a great road bike for the roads here in the north of England!!
Secondhand with low mileage these are so much cheaper than the Z1000SX's but I just can't bring myself to like the front end, it's a face only a mother could love.
Mark I see you didnt take it on any twisties..ive had mine on the" Tail of the dragon" sr 129.... WOW what a rush..... everytime i stopped i could smell rubber from the tires. bring it to us 129 and get rid of those chicken strips. enjoyed your review...not a typical Suzuki
Great review Mark. I’m picking up an absolute beauty later today. It will complement my Interceptor very nicely I think although I will need to quickly learn restraint with my right wrist🤪🤗
I had the 2016 F, loved it, decat and ecu flash 153BHP, I now have a GSXR K7 with flat bars, its so much better, Pitty the UK gets the GSXS, but switzerland gets the full power GSXR1000 Virus 186bhp flat bar sportsbike. If you have one of these get the cheap mirror extenders for £11 on ebay, makes a huge difference and no elbows, lol
Good reveiw with sensible riding, if more riders rode like you, the sad amount of motorcyclist fatalities! Would drop then maybe more motorcycles would sell?
Just had my 16's ecu flashed, it completely transforms these bikes, the amount of power and tourqe gained is incredible. Best bike I've owned to date now 👍
Mark - I've watched quite a lot of your videos and they describe every bike very well - so your videos are useful to watch, but I have noticed you never seem to critics any bike? Every bike has negative aspects but you never seem to mention them. For example you describe this bike as having ample leg room - which was similar to your comments on the Verseys - They obviously both don't happen to have similar legroom. Anyway keep up the good work and thanks for your efforts.
I've got a Yamaha Stryker and it's a pig of a bike, big heavy and not the quickest machine but a torque vtwin. Kinda want something smoother and quicker, between this gsxs1000f and a ninja 1000
You must have got lucky. Most of these have fueling issues. Snatch and constant speed hunting. PC V and throttle tamer did the trick. It's not so dangerous during low speed maneuvering now. Nice video thanks. i have 2018 Z version tail tidy and R11 yoshi. Take it past 6000rpm with TC off and there is nothing civil about what happens then.
I love my Guzzi s but for some reason I want to have a go with one of these now. To have all that latent power and ride around town emitting a low angry snarl while staying under 30 mph. That's the true motorcycling fantasy, right?
Suzuki, please give these a decent pillion seat, with lower foot pegs. The rider's position is great; you could sell a lot more of these if they were passenger friendly. The rest of the the bike is great !
Hi steve yes this was a 2019 with the new throttle control components which are supposed to smooth it out ,i rode it alot in town yesterday and it felt great all the best mark
I have one now for 2 years now.. Same colour but added a tail tidy, tank protectors and phone holder. Kept the exhaust as it looks good enough IMO. My only criticism is the mirrors. Cannot tell you how many times they've worked loose whilst riding fast (uses two counterscrewing nuts that lock it into position, except that they don't) Actually keep two short spanners just for mirror duties. Other than that and slight snatchiness on throttle, it is a lovely thing.
Picked up a 2016 model with 5100 miles on it last month for £2500.($3050 U.S ) Bargain! It's a monster, sounds amazing , even with the standard exhaust and it really handles! I just piss myself laughing every time I ride it. Short shifting is great fun, there's so much torque, but rev it out and it takes off ! It does 90mph in first gear. Hilarious. ( I apologise to the folks who ride GSXR's and who are used to this engine, I'm still a noob )
I’m fixing to buy one of these a 2016 with 3k miles on it and a shorty pipe and after martlet levers and a fender eliminator kit! I wanted a new one but don’t want to spend that much slightly used is fine let someone else pay for the break in.
Great review. Just signed up. So, I have a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 sports tourer. It’s been fantastic, faultless to be honest. Think of upgrading, should I go the new Ninja or this Suzuki as it looks very similar? Thoughts? Thanks again
I really appreciate your reviews mark. Very informative videos. I'm looking for my first sports tourer. I like a more upright position, especially as I'm 6'2". Looking at this bike (2018) or a Kawasaki Z1000sx (2018). Which one would you recommend?
Continuation from above; this booster plug “told the ECU that it was 20deg. lower than actual, this helped partially, Suzuki would not own this problem, a pity, perhaps a ‘power commander’ and a dynamometer would have helped, I lost interest, so check it out.
The ninja 1000sx looks nicer. Also I like the rear tension adjustment on it for 2 up riding, that's a nice touch. The only thing I preferred on the Suzuki was the power plant. It had great boogie when I tested it
You mentioned impeccable fuelling a few times? ‘15, 16, 17 models have major fuel issues, I bought a ‘17 not a “old” bike with 17 plate, I have owned 3 gsxr 1000s. It was impossible not to stall the engine on move off, there was a booster plug, Danish made, which simulates a 20 deg. Ambient air temp
Yes apparently there are changes to the throttle mechanism on this newer version which makes it smooth in the throttle ,it felt perfect to me and I'm very picky about fueling especially at low speed all the best mark

I ride all remote twisty highway in northern Canada and because I'm older now I need something a little easier on by back. (The bike is outlasting me lol) I mostly do 5-600 km day trips and sometimes 2-3000km rides. I think this bike would be perfect for me. The new Katana is looking good also. Especially since my bike (still have)before the K3 was a Silver/Orange86' Katana with flip up headlight! I do have a line on a brand new old stock 15' ZX-14 for way less than a showroom 19' GSXS-F or Katana however and now cant decide which way to go. Every bike I've had in life (dirt and street) has been Suzuki so I'm apprehensive about jumping ship lol. What do I do??
Hi ,I think youd love the gsx1000f ,it has all the power of your gsxr and more comfort all the best mark
Making my decision oh so much more difficult. This beauty, 2020 kawa Z900, 2019 Honda cb1000. Tough tough tough. Thanks for this video
Yes you've chosen three very good bikes there, you'll have to just test ride all of them and see which you prefer All the best mark
I'd love the naked model. I like the lack of unnecessary electronics. I miss my B-King, but it was too heavy at 265 kg.
thx for the review, about to get S1000, 2020
Great choice best regards mark
I am more of a Honda guy, but it looks like Suzuki really nailed it with this one 👍🏍
same here, but i do consider to switch from vfr800 to this one
@@Reseiver I finally sold the VFR after getting this bike.
Nice review Mark. Looks of the bike reminds me of bird in Angry Birds game (my son plays). Strange but true. Ah, it has the engine from the k5 you discussed. Wondering if you can get bar lowering kit and clipons.
Love your review Mark great bike also
Thanks David
All the best mark :)
Nice review...…..I love mine.
Hi dave ,im getting the zx6r 2019 on the 1st march !!!!
@@markpulling12 Great stuff! what colour did you go for? I could tell by the commentary that you had fell for that bike, what a machine you lucky bugger !!!!
@@djbgatekeeper hi Dave the same in green :)
@@markpulling12 Excellent choice 👍
I have a 2017 black and blue model ..great bike ...low seat height, comfortable, loads of torque, good all rounder...
Good review!
Fabulous looking bike Mark and does the business and I think you should have one I’ll take that cbr600 off your hands 😃🤪 good review. Hope this great weather continues 🤙
haha thanks stuart sorry the cbr is staying for the time being but ill bear you in mind "wink"
mark pulling You’re a good man 🍺
Cheers!
Thanks Dennis for the comment All the best mark
Im only 5ft 6 and ride a standard height v strom 1000 xgt 2018(850mm). This bike has an 810mm seat height although might be a tad bit wider. I do use German para boots so that I can tip toe. As long as you don't grab the front brakes at low speeds, you will be fine.
Awesome bike mate just sold mine for a gsxr 1000 L3 I don’t miss my Gsxs 😂
🙂
Hi Mark, I've had my 20my for 6 weeks now and absolutely love it, the stability and handling in both wet and dry conditions is fantastic even on the oe Dunlop's and that K5 is just pure class, what a great road bike for the roads here in the north of England!!
Glad you're enjoying it mark ....yes that engine is something else ...I had a k5 Gixxer years ago .... brilliant :)
Change the tires fron 50s to 55 and its a cornering machine ..did it to mine wow what a beast in the corners now
Great thanks for the info Stan 👍
Secondhand with low mileage these are so much cheaper than the Z1000SX's but I just can't bring myself to like the front end, it's a face only a mother could love.
I get tons of complements on mie, way more than I did on my S1000rr.
Great bike apart from one thing ,pillion comfort or lack of ,it may look great but the pillion perch is more sport than touring.
It would be a very sporting pillion. I doubt you would get her last name before she left you forever.
love this bike, nearly bought, was worried about fuelling ,will reconsider z900 or gsx, good review
Hi reg ,ive heard about the fueling but this one was perfect think suzuki have got it sorted now
What is fuelling ?!! Does it consume too much fuel ?
Mark I see you didnt take it on any twisties..ive had mine on the" Tail of the dragon" sr 129.... WOW what a rush..... everytime i stopped i could smell rubber from the tires. bring it to us 129 and get rid of those chicken strips. enjoyed your review...not a typical Suzuki
Great review Mark. I’m picking up an absolute beauty later today. It will complement my Interceptor very nicely I think although I will need to quickly learn restraint with my right wrist🤪🤗
Nice choice mark AHH yes it'll be a bit quicker than your interceptor lol
Best wishes
I had the 2016 F, loved it, decat and ecu flash 153BHP, I now have a GSXR K7 with flat bars, its so much better, Pitty the UK gets the GSXS, but switzerland gets the full power GSXR1000 Virus 186bhp flat bar sportsbike. If you have one of these get the cheap mirror extenders for £11 on ebay, makes a huge difference and no elbows, lol
No such bike in Suzuki's range as a GSR 1000. Do you mean the GSXR 1000.
@@fyorbane Where did I put GSR?
Defo ma next bike ✌️
Nice review
Thanks brad all the best mark
Good reveiw with sensible riding, if more riders rode like you, the sad amount of motorcyclist fatalities! Would drop then maybe more motorcycles would sell?
Thanks John ! I always ride safe within my limits and have fun aswell
Just had my 16's ecu flashed, it completely transforms these bikes, the amount of power and tourqe gained is incredible. Best bike I've owned to date now 👍
Thanks Richard ....yes some bikes respond very well to ECU flash
Cheers mark
Dictionary: "Torque": necklace of twisted metal... Just for interest.
I think I buy one GSX S 1000F. I need something for commuting on our German autobahn. Best value for money.
Good idea. Lived in Germany. Your autobahn commute is like 200k. ☺
Thanks for the feedback brian ,all taken onboard re cons of bikes all the best mark
wish they had a better pillion perch though, i wanted one of these but my wife didnt like the pillion seat. you cant blame her.
As its nearly valentines day I think you've fallen in love with that bike lol
Id better get a card and some flowers lol thanks ian :)
You won’t be disappointed mate
nice review
Proper bike. Seen a pre-reg for just over £8000, lead me not into temptation...
No didn't get lucky , apparently Suzuki changed the throttle mechanism within the last year which has improved the problem thanks Mark
I love my Guzzi s but for some reason I want to have a go with one of these now. To have all that latent power and ride around town emitting a low angry snarl while staying under 30 mph. That's the true motorcycling fantasy, right?
Great watching your vids as you ride the bikes around my local roads... VERY local this time :)
Haha great stuff colin all the best mark
Suzuki, please give these a decent pillion seat, with lower foot pegs. The rider's position is great; you could sell a lot more of these if they were passenger friendly. The rest of the the bike is great !
Did you mention the clutch, colours and m.p.g.? "Aggression" is an adjective. Enjoyed this.
Great video ....Thanks for good information.👍 I am going to subscribe you for more new great videos 😍😍
thanks for the sub qaiser !
Yes, I said "Stay there" as well
Insane - what do you do with it.?Only use it for track days.
Like it a lot, fuelling was OK, this bike has been heavily criticised for this, have they fixed it.
Mark, can you confirm if this bike is a 2018 or the new 2019 with the revised fueling components. Thanks
Hi steve yes this was a 2019 with the new throttle control components which are supposed to smooth it out ,i rode it alot in town yesterday and it felt great all the best mark
It is so beautiful in red and black. But 2020 only available in black in Australia.
What was the hand crossing thing you did before starting the bike? Is it like a ritual/prayer
Haha oh no its just me resting my hands on the tank :)
Great choice Tammy ! Enjoy .... Mark
Great review. Just signed up. So, I have a 2012 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 sports tourer. It’s been fantastic, faultless to be honest. Think of upgrading, should I go the new Ninja or this Suzuki as it looks very similar? Thoughts? Thanks again
Hi steve tbh if you love your ninja your not going to gain much with the suzuki,id go with the new ninja thanks again MP
I really appreciate your reviews mark. Very informative videos. I'm looking for my first sports tourer. I like a more upright position, especially as I'm 6'2". Looking at this bike (2018) or a Kawasaki Z1000sx (2018). Which one would you recommend?
Hi tough choice as they are both brilliant .. but I'd go for the Kawasaki
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 thanks Mark :)
nice
Continuation from above; this booster plug “told the ECU that it was 20deg. lower than actual, this helped partially, Suzuki would not own this problem, a pity, perhaps a ‘power commander’ and a dynamometer would have helped, I lost interest, so check it out.
"very civilized and obviously very powerful"
The ninja 1000sx looks nicer. Also I like the rear tension adjustment on it for 2 up riding, that's a nice touch. The only thing I preferred on the Suzuki was the power plant. It had great boogie when I tested it
looks are not everything..
Nice bike. A shame they haven’t updated those indicators. Same ones on my two Suzuki’s and the don’t even have reflectors inside of them.
You can make reflectors out of tinfoil and put inside, I did it on my GSX1250F.
@@rabola55 I did something similar
You mentioned impeccable fuelling a few times? ‘15, 16, 17 models have major fuel issues, I bought a ‘17 not a “old” bike with 17 plate, I have owned 3 gsxr 1000s. It was impossible not to stall the engine on move off, there was a booster plug, Danish made, which simulates a 20 deg. Ambient air temp
Yes apparently there are changes to the throttle mechanism on this newer version which makes it smooth in the throttle ,it felt perfect to me and I'm very picky about fueling especially at low speed all the best mark
They have a very snatchy throttle, got the updated 17 ecu on my 16 but still have to be careful with the throttle.
Nice bike but the back end looks a lot slicker on the 2022 model.
Great review and thank you, just one question. Why do the English call the ground 'the floor' ?
Good point Leonard ,I have no idea lol :)
No harm, i am going to purchase one of these bikes in January. In part based upon your excellent review, cheers and keep them coming 👌
wow! it's really my dream bike, though all i can afford is a gixxer lol, really a great bike. ride safe bro!
Thanks Glen you too 😊
@@markpulling12 welcome!
Would you say this GSX-S 1000F is better to own than the Z900? I like both of those bikes and I'm sorta torn on what to buy.
Id go for the gsx mark ,even better engine (gsxr based ) and plusher suspension ,the rear suspension on the z900 is rock hard mp
