      100%. I've had mine for 3 years, and this spring I just threw a full exhaust and racing filter on it. It's a SAVAGE now, and you can still ride it.for hours. Wouldn't trade mine for anything

      Watch mvrtvcom for the best review by far of this bike. It's in two parts, totalling over 40 minutes, although this is also good.

    I rode and loved a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200 (with Suzuki's stock fairing and windscreen and a Yoshimura exhaust system upgrade) and loved it (except for maintaining the carbs). Notwithstanding, it is a beast! Fast, fun and powerful with good brakes and quite nimble, but I reached my skill limit in the twisty's and I wanted more. Something lighter with better more exciting handling that I could push better through turns and with even more power. Then Suzuki came out with the GSX-S 1000F and I called the dealer and reserved a test ride the moment one came in. Six months later in 2016 the dealer called and I went for a ride. Wow! This bike handles like a dream come true and takes off like a bat out of Hades. All the handling and power I was looking for and more! Plus a comfortable ride with all the modern wonders of ABS and traction control with a snappy throttle that is amazing. A year later and the honeymoon continues. It's like Suzuki designed this bike just for me and I am absolutely in love with it. To my mind and heart for riding, this is "the bike", period!

      Have had a 2001 Suzuki Bandit since 2005. (Even got my saddle sore certification from the Iron Butt Association with it.) 52 years old now and thinking of upgrading. Reading @carvelli3 describing the same situation and the honeymoon has not ended is only more encouragement.

    Just picked my Red version up last night in the USA. Have only ridden it home from the dealership going safe speeds through southern California. I LOOOOVE this bike. The styling caught my eye (My first ever GSX) and the performance reviews are a big sell attraction for me. The stock pipe sounds amazing. I just sit and look at the bike, its that sexy. I can't wait to take it on some local twisties and crank some wheelies. A great value at a great price.

    As a one who learned to drive a manual car before a bike, I actually liked that Suzuki's require the clutch pull to start.
    That said, the switch has been known to become finicky with time.
    Alas. Progress.

    +1 that this is the best overall review of the bike. I sat on this in the showroom and it feels like my 01 GSXR-1000 with LSL super bike bar setup. Sadly I sold it. I ride my 98 1200 modified Bandit now, but I feel an overwhelming need to have this bike. I'm 54 and still feel the need for speed.....I just don't want to feel it in my knees, back, and shoulders on a sport bike. I think Suzuki hit a home run with this.

      Had a highly modified Bandit. 1998. Car pulled out in front of me and I totaled it. Replaced with a 2001 Bandit in 2005. Thinking of upgrading as well.

    Just took the naked version for a demo ride at Daytona bike week. Ridden back to back against all the c ompetion, this bike is hands down the most impressive to ride, and oh that engine alone is worth the price tag. In the market now for this faired version.

    Finally a review that doesn't treat this bike like a sport tourer. Think I'll go with the Z1000SX because I want a sport tourer, not a sport bike, but thanks for the quality review; bored of all the pointless sport tourer comparison reviews. Looks like a fun bike though - test riding one tomorrow just to make sure. ; )

    • @robertanthonyfarrell
      @robertanthonyfarrell 8 років тому +3

      Loved it way more than I wanted to ! Rode a Triumph Sprint GT that day as well, engine was too unexciting for me. Luggage and pillion options on the Z1000SX mean I'll probably still go with it, but the Suzuki was incredible. I could only try the naked one but had an absolute blast. :)

    • @SuperBikesince1977
      @SuperBikesince1977  8 років тому

      +Bob Farrell great work getting out and riding the bikes that you're interested in, at least now you know. The Z1000SX is a great bike as well, though if you haven't put your money down, it might be worth hanging on a couple of weeks until you've had a chance to ride the MT-10 Yamaha. We just rode it on the press launch, there's a screen and luggage option on that which could be ideal for you. The bike is fantastic, if you can put up with the looks, you wouldn't regret waiting to ride one before you decide where to put your money.

      rockafella1690 No, I bought the Suzuki in the end. :) Fantastic bike, especially once you have the throttle sensor adjusted. Unfortunately somebody smashed into me and the bike died (I was fine) so am in the market again. Will try something different but only for variety's sake.

  • @TheCdubbleyoo

    A few years on and having seriously considered a heavily-discounted '18 model, I find myself asking why, if the focus groups said they don't care that much about luggage and pillion, there seem to be so many people looking at this bike claiming those as the areas of fault...
    It does make it unique, though. It would just be nice to be able to build if not buy a lightweight touring bike from something along the lines of this bike (or the 750). The Ninja is a nice bike but something between the 650 and 1000 would be just right for many.
    no?

    Oddly enough I spoke to an ex Japanese racer today and he reckons with minimal work you'd be able to get about 160's hp out of the thing too. Might not be as impressive as the 180ish RWHP of the S1000RR's/R1's etc, but anyone who knows the old Litrebikes still knows that's a fuckton of power. Don't think I'll be buying another GSXR again, but this one, I'm strongly considering.

    Great review.
    I'm not a GSX-R owner and never have been but had been considering one, although at 43 and not built for a superbike riding position it sounds like this could be worth investigating. I had also been considering a Z1000SX as a less brutal option than the ZX10-R but with sporting looks and a full fairing.

    • @pipnmaz
      @pipnmaz 9 років тому

      Ah, shame you have to wait but not too much longer hopefully. did you get to test ride one yet or are there no demo bikes there yet? I'd be happy to bring one over from the UK and spend a few months test riding it out there with you :)

    I'd like that motor in a more retro styled bike, I like the look of my 91GSX 1100 G. My exhaust system to my eye is far more styled. And I totally do not like that pod looking rear fender, I'd have to cut it off a bike I just paid 10,000 for no way.
    Keep the wild racer styling for the race track and give me that power in a beauty package that I can enjoy a standard ride style with a real wind screen. And I'll be the abs and traction control.

  • @blthetube1
    @blthetube1 8 років тому

    I don't understand the need to "Re-tune" the engine. I would much rather have more power than I could want than less.

    • @cueballB
      @cueballB 8 років тому +4

      +blthetube1 It's a give and take situation. They wanted an engine with linear powerdelivery trough the entire rev-range. So that means thengine's max torque needs to com at lower revs and stay high untill it hits the limiter. If you do that, you'll ultimately lose some power uptop and have a few horses less.

    • @jonlong3402
      @jonlong3402 5 років тому +1

      Re-tuned for street. I ride on the street 99 percent of the time. Street tune is not race tune, I do NOT want a bike that is tuned for the track if I am on the street. Too old for that sort of pretense. If you want a bike that is intended for the track buy a GSX-R.
