    We hope you find this video calming and relaxing to watch. It's a bit different to some of our recent videos, so please do let us know what you think? We've kept it slow paced, focusing on the sights and sounds along the way, but included more info at the end (13:52) if you want to know more. Hope you enjoy this little escape to the Scottish Highlands! Kim & Del

      I loved it. I've never used a bothy. It looked fine. Having solid cover and a wee fireplace must be a great benefit at times. And thank you, it was relaxing. Just what we need at times like this.

    Straight up respect to how hard this must have been to film. Either bare hands and your fingers feel like they'er about to fall off, or with clothes and everything feels harder to film. We have no idea how hard this was to film from the comfort of our warm houses, with our laptops on our laps.

    Love your film, something to keep me going during this awful time. It reminds me of Kearvig bothy near Cape Wrath, where I stayed on a north coast walk one June years ago, you must go there when all this is over. It’s right on the beach in a little bay. Spent rhe day wallking up the 1200 foot cliff path by it and sitting with puffins.

      Thanks, Duncan! Glad the video has brought back some nice memories for you. We visited Kearvaig in Sep 2019, wow what a place. We were too late for the puffins, but watching the waves crash off the bottom of the sea cliffs was just mesmerising. We've got some shots from there in our Wild Scotland video that you might enjoy too - ua-cam.com/video/0CloQebA8KQ/v-deo.html.

    I was listening to this rather than watching as I am drawing a picture of the Storr on Skye. I need the aural stimulation from the Highlands to help make it work. I thought the first bothy was on Ardnish and so it was. At the end of September I stayed at Roshven and really wanted to have a day to walk across the peninsula to Penmeanach. However being able to do Rois-Bheinn and An Stac was a very welcome alternative. I shall have to watch all over again now because I need to see it! Big thumbs up from me!

    Dear Kim and Del,
    Another magnificent production! This format is very good for the subject since without a ' voice blog " one gets an experience much closer to actually being there. You lucked out with the weather in February! ( I suspect careful attention to forecasts?? ) The commentary at the end is great since then one can concentrate on what's being said and it doesn't 'fight" with the visual and musical experience. I wondered if you are from Glasgow area - I spent my teens near Broxburn, then Greenock and Bridge of Weir near Paisley before going to Canada many moons ago in 1970 so your programs evoke a lot of memories.
    Niall, Ontario, Canada.

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  4 роки тому

      Thank you, Niall! We're really pleased you like this format, and that's exactly what we're going for - enabling the viewer to experience as best as possible what it would be like to be there themselves, but also providing some more info unobtrusively at the end. It's funny you say that about the weather, the day we headed into the first bothy was actually the tailend of Storm Erik, we weren't sure how it would pan out! We both lived in Glasgow for many years through university and after, but Del's from Elgin originally and I'm from Fife. And for the last few months we've been in Georgia (Caucasus). We're glad the videos are bringing back some teenage memories!

    • @niallleslie7419
      @niallleslie7419 4 роки тому

      @@GoingTheWholeHogg Thank's for your reply. I won't even ask about how you ended up in Georgia and I suspect that there's a long story behind it - supper round a fire with some Islay single malt? In any event I'll have a search and find some of your later video's. Our favourite tomato varieties are from Georgia & are sweet, a bit salty and a colour mix of green, brown and red when ripe. The ' Right To Roam ' act in Scotland made a huge difference and there's no equivalent in North America although we have a ( small in number but long in length ) network of public trails and some good parks for whose use we have to often pay a fee. The vast majority of the inhabited land etc. is privately owned. Ontario residents can camp on crown land with some minimal restrictions and due to the 'bush' that covers most of the non farmed lower parts of Canada kayak or canoe is often the way in.
      We're in the country, in Ontario where the St. Lawrence river leaves lake Ontario and although beginning to get ancient and decrepit if you ever come to North America post Covid and need a base then please hang on to my email address and just get in touch since we're going down kicking hard! If that's a possibility then just send a private email to me and I'll send our full contact information.
      Cheers,
      Niall.

Who knows where we might end up in the future, but if it's Canada we'll let you know ; ) For now we're hoping to stay in the Caucasus region, too much good food, unique wine and beautiful hiking trails to say goodbye just yet. Saying that, we're always happy to return home to Scotland, and thankful for the Right To Roam, it opens up so many opportunities. Anyway, all the best! Kim

    Looking at drones via your link. Was it the Mavic Air 2 you used for those fantastically detailed shore shots? Do you have to register that one for a licence?

    • @GoingTheWholeHogg
      @GoingTheWholeHogg  4 роки тому

      Great. We used (and still use) the Mavic Air. It's a fantastic small drone, perfect for travel, although we have been talking about ugrading to the Mavic Air 2 as DJI have made quite a few improvements with the latest model. These days you have to register virtually all drones in the UK and get Flyer ID and an Operator ID. There is a multiple choice test to get a Flyer ID which you can take as many times as you need to. The Operator ID costs £9 a year and you need to print off a label to put on your drone. It's all quite straightforward and can be done here: register-drones.caa.co.uk/ . Thanks very much for using our link. Best of luck.

      It's a very beautiful area. It's common practice to sweep up and remove all rubbish when you leave a bothy in an attempt to keep them clean and tidy, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen and you can find leftover rubbish sometimes. Yes, something like this isn't common in many countries, so I certainly don't take bothies for granted and really appreciate that they are made available for all here.
