Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade. The song sounds simple but the drums are doing some really fun things that will catch someone off guard when they hear it vs what they played. (also, Drumeo did this song but i feel the drummer was lying about not hearing it prior)
Gospel guys have the capability to play with the power a punk/rock drummer is required to play but they have an advantage of having more vocabulary in the types of grooves/fills they can do. A lot of punk guys just play to their tendencies and can’t really go beyond just playing with power and speed. That’s why the best drummers now Matt Gartska, Luke Holland, and ii learned some gospel chops and took inspiration from that style of playing to make their grooves sound livelier than a typical band in their genre.
Was thinking the same, plus that also takes it a step different from Drumeo so it's not just the exact same format but only using lesser known gospel drummers in comparison to the drummers that Drumeo's able to bring in. It's a welcome change.
Us rockers/metalheads are too egotistical and we often think we have the best musicians in our genre. And then there's this dude who i have never heard of and dude rocks as hard or HARDER than a lot of my favorite drummers. Good stuff guys
@@lawrencejackson3160 every church drummer I've been aware of has been sick with it, it's crazy lmao. should have played in my youth group back when I had the chance, maybe i'd be crazy now 😅
I am fascinated by K2's approach to this. I guess because I know the song I find his take on it totally fun and different. The outro version he played was AWESOME.
Lots of things I love here. 1. Your shout out to Drumeo 2. K2's version of a song that is ingrained on my soul. 3. Hearing Drummers from a genre that I probably would have never heard otherwise show how diverse and talented they are. This is an easy subscription for me!
Please bring him back for another one!!!!! Actually bring him back for many many more 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 love his skills but damn, that energy and enthusiasm !!!!!!!!
I’ll be honest I really like how they let you hear the drumless track throughout different parts of the song rather than drumeo where they only play a few seconds of the drumless track
I respect how you guys took the feedback from the last “hearing for the first time” video and actually applied it. Content is looking great I’m subscribing for sure!
Dude, this is the killer evolution of the original drumeo format - having them play it again after hearing the original ONCE. Not trying to cop it exactly, but having an idea of the direction Kinda hope drumeo copies that from you now
Dude absolutely crushed it, and he also played some of the rhythm of another one of Offspring's songs called "Kick Him When He's Down" to start out. Great video and I subbed y'all
Would be so cool to see the opposite! A rock drummer attempting gospel. This dude did a great job on the track. I didn’t mind the halftime chorus at all 👏🏼
15:25 Yoooo, this fill caught me off guard. That footwork is on point! As a new drummer, I love this series so much! Y’all are shedding some light on all the talented gospel drummers out there - I had NO IDEA gospel drumming was so dope!! ❤
Just proving how universal music is. It doesn’t matter the genre, the style, the color, music transcends all of that and good music can be enjoyed and appreciated. Thoroughly enjoyed this and love to see real musicians work their craft. Keep it up
What makes these types of videos great is hearing someone's uniquely pure take on a song for the first time. It's not about nailing the part. What's also awesome is the second playthrough after K2 heard the original is awesome to let it out.
The production of this did such a spot on job with the editing and camera work that this feels surreal. This is so fucking well done and such a great homage to its inspiration.
I always enjoy drumeo, but this--as a first time viewer of the channel--almost gave me the same kind of surprise/joy/discovery I had when that Zildjian JD Beck video came out.
Gotta admit up front: with all the nasty in the world I question my faith, without judging those who have it. But our Gospel Guy hear could convince me there's a higher power! That mischievous grin @8:43 that says "Yeah I got this, and I got it good!" His joy and that of his brother watching and listening is so infectious. My day just lifted a notch watching this. Keep posting! :-) ☮🤗🥳
Massive offspring fan and an of the Drumeo series, Was thrilled when I saw your video suggested K2 killed it, my jaw dropped when he showed the three patterns he was hearing I honestly really enjoyed his version but seeing the pure energy speed joy and power behind him playing the original got me pumped up man
Killed that. Love seeing young cats just killing it. The enthusiasm at the end and how he wanted to get back on…priceless. Keep having a passion ya’ll!

I love gospel drummers. They got all the chops to play literally anything.
That was amazing! These gospel drummers can shred like nobody's biz. I'm an old punk drummer and I'm literally gonna try and change my approach after K2 blew my mind.
Damn, Keandre's version is so much doper than the original's, and I grew up on that track! He really added so much more variety to the song, and his drumming chops are insane!
@@DerekWrites but then it wouldn't be any fun. I thought most of it worked as an alternative take - except for the guitar solo bridge, which was a bit too busy and unfocused.
Church/gospel musicians are always the goats! Even though Im not religious, I always loved playing with the church guys because they had great attitudes, could mesh well with and loved learn learning tons of new styles and almost always played really, really well. Great vid!
It's always fascinating for me to hear how drummers from different genres attack a song. I wasn't sold on how he played the chorus the first time around, but he quickly adapted after listening to the song once. Pretty cool stuff.
Man that was a hell of a job there, it's fun seeing how the drummer mind works where everything they hear can lead to so many different directions for how they think the drumming sounds best. I'll be watching for the next!
Been an offspring fan since i was a kid, loved this interpretation of the song. Really liked how he let the vocals shine. The tom part was really good! Made the song feel really dynamic. Yall are doing great with this show, loving it.
I might look to power metal and symphonic metal as well for fast/technical options... for example Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Nightwish, Epica, Beyond the Black
This and Drumeo are my new YT addiction! I always like drums, but this is next level! Being familiar with the original song, watching his process. and listening to his first run was AMAZING!!!
I definitely like the final playthrough once theyve heard it and they can nail some parts they knew they had but didnt play etc. REALLY enjoy seeing gospel drummers play other genres - shows how much their skills translate! Also, (from experience) theyre usually "not allowed" to play so many songs like this growing up, so its nice to stretch the wings God gave them :)
Love that the host doesn’t know offspring either! Truly a foreign song to them!! Keep up the good work fellas! Hit a gospel drummer with “Jerry was a race car driver” by Primus. That’d be a good one.
Love that he plays dream hihats, sabian splashes, ride, a hhx crash paired with a K crash. Those all work so well together and specifically. those models. Great taste and musician!
The first that come to my mind is... If you play a type of music in particular, when you play another kind, your mind goes for the things you always play, and that's really awesome. This video is amazing!
That was awesome! Love seeing more people doing the "Hears for the first time" format and I think its even more respectable when you cite & shout out drumeo as your inspiration
Dude killed it, absolutely awesome. He got the feel of the song right and that's what is most important to drumming in my opinion, drums have such a a huge impact on what tone the vibe is going to be.
One of the best songs ever. (Top 100) Love how you let him play the song how he decided to, rather than try to get it as accurate to the original as possible. Then at the end he has a chance to try to make it similar to the OG. It’s a nice, different take than Drumeo. Two great channels. Edit: Going to be the annoying person in the comments asking to do a Mastodon song 😂
The beauty of the beat is that it's transferable and universal. So, when I see drummers from different genres shocked at their enjoyment in playing the unfamiliar, I take comfort in knowing there's still a chance to reignite positive evolution in music appreciation as the beat continues to go on. 🥁🤘✌️
Y'all are arguably better than drumeo rn because it's not big name celebrity drummers but it's still the same level of talent. Everybody knows gospel drummers got it but this channel is a great way to see it in action
Brooooo same! I love Drumeo and normally I hate channels that copy a model but this is different and I don’t know why! I was smiling the whole time as well… I don’t get it but enough for me to subscribe and look forward to seeing more! 🤣
This is awesome!! I used to play in a rockband back in the days. Always love to see people of color enjoying it also! 🤗🤘🏽Besides that, I just realized that The Offspring was the first big rock concert I went to in my life 😂
Giving mad credit to Drumeo for inspiration, I love that and wish everyone would have that kind of honor. Subscribed, bell notification on, can't wait to see more of this!
I’ve listened to this song for so many years…it’s crazy to hear it without drums. I keep adding it in. Drums are so meaningful for holding the song together.
He's stressing it so hard and we're all sat here with out mouths on the floor. It's awesome that he takes it so seriously but the fun of these experiments is to see what comes from your style! No wrong answers. This is Gospel drummer on Punk, not Punk drummer doing Punk.
What songs would you like to see on here? & Who would you like to see on here as well?
Rage Against The Machine - Bulls On Parade. The song sounds simple but the drums are doing some really fun things that will catch someone off guard when they hear it vs what they played. (also, Drumeo did this song but i feel the drummer was lying about not hearing it prior)
What I’ve done - linkin park
Slayer - south of heaven

Dance of eternity by dream theater
So you're telling me now we all need to hire gospel drummers for our punk bands?
Dude that was so sick
Gospel guys have the capability to play with the power a punk/rock drummer is required to play but they have an advantage of having more vocabulary in the types of grooves/fills they can do. A lot of punk guys just play to their tendencies and can’t really go beyond just playing with power and speed. That’s why the best drummers now Matt Gartska, Luke Holland, and ii learned some gospel chops and took inspiration from that style of playing to make their grooves sound livelier than a typical band in their genre.
Gospel drummers are the goats. My mates 12 year old son plays in their church band and he shids on most grown men. Amazing to see
Look up Eric Moore and Thundercat playing with Suicidal Tendencies back in the early 2010's
Drummers like guitarist, bassist...and all such benefit from looking to other styles.
and if you hire a punk drummer to play punk music its even better.........
Gospel drummers are a different breed man
They got the Lord in they fingas mane. -Terrence Howard voice
having them play it again after actually hearing it, man that's a step up I didn't think I'd want so bad. Keep doing that!!!
Was thinking the same, plus that also takes it a step different from Drumeo so it's not just the exact same format but only using lesser known gospel drummers in comparison to the drummers that Drumeo's able to bring in. It's a welcome change.
I agree. I normally cut off the drumeo clips after the last take. This was a nice touch and K2 version added to the originally and made it better
As I said in my own comment... this is the strongest outro I've ever seen on a UA-cam video. Kept me hooked to the very end.
Us rockers/metalheads are too egotistical and we often think we have the best musicians in our genre. And then there's this dude who i have never heard of and dude rocks as hard or HARDER than a lot of my favorite drummers. Good stuff guys
He’s a church drummer 🤣🤘🏽
We do have the best drummers...stfu
@@lawrencejackson3160 every church drummer I've been aware of has been sick with it, it's crazy lmao. should have played in my youth group back when I had the chance, maybe i'd be crazy now 😅
The most amazing thing is that he enjoyed the song and the drumming so much, he asked to play the song again just for the hell of it. Amazing artist!
I am fascinated by K2's approach to this. I guess because I know the song I find his take on it totally fun and different. The outro version he played was AWESOME.
It was so cool seeing K2 play after he heard the original, want to see that happen more times, it's a nice feature for your show
Same!
yeah definitly give them a second chance to do well its lovely
Agreed... really like the format of the show
Yeah drumeo never does this let them hear it one time and then give it another take I would love that

Man!!!! Letting them play again after they listen to the OG version is epic.
Drummers are some of the MOST fascinating people in a band 😮
The talent they have is crazy
after he heard the original drum, he immediately had the desire to play again. the 2nd time he really did his best.
Having the drummer play after they hear is definitely different and you should make that standard!
Please bring him back for another one!!!!! Actually bring him back for many many more 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 love his skills but damn, that energy and enthusiasm !!!!!!!!

reallly,, i subbed on this one.
I did the same.
I’m glad we get to hear more of the drumless track really helps the audience connect with K2 in the moment
Honestly his halftime from his first play through was so good I almost wish it was in the real song
Doubling up on the fill at 8:39 is such a brilliant stroke to cover himself for jumping the gun on the transition, beautifully played.
