  • I take the NEW 2018 Honda Civic SI HFP for one of the FIRST ROAD TESTS of this car! Honda took the regular Si and made a good middle ground between it and the Type R. One thing is for sure, Honda knows how to engineer a front wheel drive car..

      Yep I agree, I turn off my traction control & the stability control & I smash around corners! That LSD helps out so much 👍👍 check out the hasport rear motor mount. Damn near eliminates wheel hop & will make the side motor mounts last twice as long. Best mod $135

      @Throttle House, DUDE you guys get full front LED on a manual stick in Canada?!?! In USA we get the crappy halogens and that is a complete dealbreaker to me. Why does Canada always get the top trims with manual tranmissions and here in us our is base or worse. ^Check out prl's turbo upgrade kit. They claim 125hp jump for like 1k-2k price range. Their test mule had lots of thing stock, but one thing about these tuned modded civics is that they have one thing in common which is a clutch change. The clutch seems like the Achilles heels. I think it'll be okay in the 300-ish range cause if you think about it people have boosted those tiny D series motor in the past.

      It'd be nice if the local assembly plant can produce something that doesn't force us to buy into overpriced Type-R. Great deal for Americans with a warmer climate, but a little one-sided for northern winters. I also suspect 2.0L will be much more comfortable in gridlock traffic (with 6mt), which is an issue if u live in Toronto. 1.5T is an efficent engine and can do well in casual track use, but I"ll always consider the 2.0L the engine ment for racing.

      that sound a lot like a 2018 Subaru WRX STI - big wing , fake air duck. (not fake vent actually just for look, cut some hole on them it would bounce all over the place inside that hole and push that would kill most of airflow that channeling air curve around ) Honda engineer know what they're doing and what their designing and how they assemble thing, to claim FWD top record on that NURB track and multiple award winning plus car of the year. ( not over designed ( my opinion not less but also not too much ) but very well track design as well as street comfort design, indeed it is a super great car super great seat as well

    The reason you get rev hang is because Honda put a slightly heavier than it should Flywheel in those things to make them easier to drive (that's why the clutch operation is so smooth and starting from a dead stop smoothly is so easy in modern cars) and it's also better for fuel economy...if you swap it for a race flywheel i tell you rev hang will be gone.

Hate the clutch though. I felt the pedal placement was bad and I need the aftrmarket relocation plate to put it in the right place for heel toe. Rev hang is awful. Hondahack is a lifesaver but doesn't get around the climate control crap. It's annoying to not have physical controls. The 2017 is a lot of fun to drive but always leaves me wanting to upgrade. I've been in the market for one of these and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner's manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular? Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor that changes the ignition timing caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.

    This price seems to bring it too close to the GTI Autobahn.
    If you're cross-shopping them @ ~30k the GTI wins on performance, but the base GTI is missing so many features that you can make an argument for the SI (better headlights, premium sound, etc). But when you bump the Si price to the level of the GTI Autobahn, you lose the benefit of having more features so unless you bridge the performance gap, it seems like a bad deal.

    After watching the review, I REALLY want to get Pilot sport 4s on my regular 17 si....
    About the rev hang. Have you tried slightly changing the shifting technique where just a split second before you press the clutch in, let off on the throttle rather than pushing them at the same time. I've read online that this may help certain cars , And It's something I kind of adapted to doing while driving my car for a few months now..I'm not sure if its actually helping but my 2-3 gear change is pretty smooth under 6 to 7 tenths driving. 1-2 is still a bit rough given the drastic ratio difference
    To me, by doing this it feels as if that "hang" is gone, and it drops immediately when the clutch is in, but it still drops relatively slowly probably because of the dual mass flywheel.
    I personally hate rev-hang, and I hear it's mostly for emissions with these turbocharged cars limiting oil vaporization and being burned. It pretty much means rev-hang is hear to stay , but was wondering if you can verify slight changes to driving that could help.

      So much drama regarding rev hangs with the Turbo. With base LX, 10/10 results in a smooth shift. No 2nd guessing while shifting at redline. However, the engine seems like it needs to rev out an additional 300rpm or so. It hits that redline too easily.

    • @skifree0
      @skifree0 6 років тому +1

      Just a small update on the revhang. It is definitely based on engine load. It was pretty hot in Ontario the past couple of weeks and starting the car always kicks in maximum AC.
      During this time the rev hang does disappear. When the compressor is engaged u do have to adjust to it and engage the clutch Mutch faster. After the car comes down in temp. Rev hang returns.
      I’m definitely going to tune it out at this rate.

    • @KevinMO91
      @KevinMO91 6 років тому

      Depends on your goals, if you plan on making any additional power you'll have to find an aftermarket LSD since it doesnt come with one.
