      David P. i had the 7th gen the 8th gen and the 9th gen still have the ep3 (7th gen) and 2015 si gave the 8th gen to my niece for her 16th bday and i choose the 9th gen over all 3 i loved that high rev from the 8th gen and love the 7th gen cornering but all and all love the 9th gen all around looks plus it's fatser than all three now i choose the 9th over the 10th cause if i put the same size turbo on my 9th gen I'll eat the 10th gen alive

      @David P. oh yeah? How about this:
      6th gen owners be like "6th gen > 7th all day." 7th gen owners be like "7th gen hatchback > Acura RSX all day." S2000 owners be like "s2000 > Acura RSX all day." RSX owners be like "RSX > 8th gen all day."

      David P. Happens with evo's and sti's. I mean every time a car changes so much you'll always get some who like the old and some that like the new unless it's a 2011 SER spec v that is the biggest POS ever sold as a 4 door sports car.

    Test drove one the other day:
    Build quality very good for the price.
    Drove very smoothly.
    Acceleration is good but not stunning.
    Roof is low, especially with the moon-roof. The driver sits low. The entire effect is like looking out of a "squashed" car.
    No spare tire.
    Manual seat controls for driver.
    Touch screen for entertainment system was very responsive, but difficult to use without looking directly at it.
    Horizontal trunk space is excellent, even with the seats up.
    For the price , a very nice car.

    I've owned a lot of Hondas. The 8th, 9th, and now the 10th gen si. The chassis alone feels much tighter and willing in the turns. And everyone complaining about power, Honda heads always find a way to get more. Give the car a chance. New tech doesn't mean it's a bad Si.

      There are some 500 whp 1.6 sohc out there. This si just needs time and r&d. This is a great fun daily driver. And I've owned even an ap2 s2000. Every time a new si comes out the previous gen owners always say new ones trash last gen is better. So when the 11th gen si comes out this car will be appreciated lol. And new Type R is great but with dealer mark up it's not worth it. 60k for a civic? Nah, that's used gtr money.

      First off the 17 and 18 SI is rated at 192 torque, not 180.
      Second, can you get a Mustang GT or Camaro V8 for $24,000???
      No you cant!!
      Does the GT or Camaro have limited slip diff??
      No it doesnt.
      Does the GT or Camaro have adjustable dampners?
      No it doesnt.
      Does the GT or Camaro get 40mpg??
      No it doesnt.
      You're comparing apples and oranges.
      The SI is the BEST car in its price range with the BEST balance of performance, handling AND mpg!!

    I've always owned "higher end" cars like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus etc. Never thought I would purchase a civic but I was impressed with the looks of the new ones. Drove an Si and liked it so much I bought one. Still surprised to see a Honda in my driveway instead of a BMW lol. Can't beat the 40mpg average I'm getting, legendary Honda build quality and fun factor when driving. After a month of ownership I'm thoroughly impressed with my first Honda!

Hondata released the flashpro... simple reflash adds 27whp. That's puts you at 232whp. Imagine after bolt ons and pro tune.... also I owned a 9th gen SI and now own a 10th gen SI and love em both. Joshua Everage actually the engines turbo doesnt allow anymore power with bolt ons. hondata maxed out the turbo....with full bolt ons people are seeing maybe 4 WHP over 230.....the turbo is maxed out...it actually is the same engie amd same turbo...just slightly different internals for longevity. your better offgetting the sport and getting a tune.

Surprised even at how fun of a driving experience it is. I’m also glad it isn’t high hp I already got too many tickets atm and by the time those are cleared off my record I’ll have the new 400z🤑🤑

    Best, most thorough review yet on this car. With 20K on a '17 SI
    -still good with my choice. The only work on it so far other than oil change was a readjustment recently of the left front brake assembly to eliminate a noise. Apparently one part was a tiny bit out of spec and rubbed on left corners- but brakes still worked fine. Right Honda fixed it easily, no worries.
    Even without summer tires handling and grip are first rate.
    I will definitely upgrade once the stock all seasons wear out.
    Doing my best, but the suckers won't die! Averaging 31.7 mpg combined, more like 40's on anything but stop and go.
    Have driven some rwd and awd performance cars, this holds its own, but you do need the correct fwd technique to approach its limits. You will have a ball wringing it out.
    I test drove a WRX and a Focus RS - two great cars- and still bought this as my daily driver. Enough said.

    • @paulstabin6233
      @paulstabin6233 6 років тому +2

      Not sure what happened to my post. Meant to say had a noise when turning left recently, and it was just a small brake part out of alignment and easily fixed. Otherwise no issues.

    man I just spent the last month going to my closest Honda dealer test driving everything from standard Civics to the Ridgeline. ALL of them were freaking phenomenal!! These new Civics are the nicest highest quality ergonomically well designed as well as fit and finish ever. The Ridgeline was stupid nice but to big. As much as I loved the turbo 4 door hatchback Civic to death I wound up buying a 2017 CRV EX L. I am blown away. I have seen $80,000 cars and trucks that did not have the ingot like fit and finish of these latest gen Hondas.

    • @dannyelmism0
      @dannyelmism0 6 років тому +2

      I agree with this. This car his not getting the praise it needs. I had a 9thgen SI sedan red with 218WHP and traded in for a 10th gen SI red and this car pulls harder than the 9th gen (ONCE TURBO HITS). When turbo his not there is GAY (This can be change by tuning of course). But let me tell you this car is awesome I was at first kind of meh becuase of the 1.5 litter motor but look at the numbers this car is making we already have a 12.9 second 10thgen SI. Remember Honda has 1.5 and 1.6 way older motors with a LOOOOOT of HP on them so.
      I really like the 10thgen really do, performance, technology etc.

      Danny Lugo oh absolutely it’s a completely different machine. Listen I was dead set against it until I went to go get the 2018 2.0t. And I chose the Si over that accord and that accord is a fucking monster!!! The engine is so technical with everything they did. I just think everything looks so perfect. Other sporty cars he’s not mentioning Is the Scion brz I have worked on more frs than anything in this class and even right off the truck we have had to make adjustments to doors, hoods, hatches. I personally had to remount 10 brz front bumpers cause of how off they were. A normal person wouldn’t even notice how off the mines were on them but I would pick it out everytime. And then we started going over them the second they got off the truck and we start sending them back to the dock where they come in off the boats on the east coast. One thing with my 2018 Si is I’m not a big fan of the grills on the rear bumper. Big open black pockets lol.

    2500 miles on my si, love it so far, imo 10th gen are the best looking stock civics ever built, though a little too big for me still, but I told myself this was a "grown up" car when I bought it, and yeah the fake vents on the back are hokey, but these are the only Honda seats I have ever been comfortable in. The handling is so no drama it's almost boring, which has kept me working harder to get more and more out of it, I don't think I'll need more power for a while because I always seem to run out of road anyway. Only things I want to change are shifter bushings(cachunk cachunk shifts drive me batty), and maybe clutch line, clutch engages like .5" off of the firewall after a long throw. And my only complaints are that the steering wheel is so high, the window sills are high too so I can't rest my arm, and the cupholder placement in the center console sucks if you have more than 1 other person in the car. As fun as a 7000+ rpm screamer would be 40mpg tips the balance for me! $0.02

      ayoo dawg I noticed those cachunk cachunk shifts too. Fucking annoying tbh, especially when I’m doing some more chill driving I swear that sound rings throughout the car. When I’m whipping it a little bit harder like 4k+ rpm shifts I don’t really notice it

      Is changing the shifter bushings really the proper fix? I just don’t have the most knowledge on manual transmissions as it’s my first manual car. I do wanna do something to fix those clanks every time you shift between gears

    Personally I purchased a lightly used GTI Autobahn with Performance Pack after test driving both. Performance wise they are both solid, well grounded, handle like go karts, and have more than enough power. However, at the same price the GTI was exponentially more refined and made daily driving far more pleasant as I did need my car for my 50 mile commute. Plus, I just love hatchbacks 😝
    PS: I was coming from a 2000 Mazda Protege 1.6 (the classic grandma hand me down) so my idea of "enough power" is skewed compared to some of you who have spent more time in performance cars

    owned an 8th gen, own a 9th gen currently, maybe one day i'll own the latest. you either love or hate the 2012 model year, i personally think they look good lowered. i can tell you my 8th gen was much funner to drive at high rpm's and WOT. i could feel the vtec crossover. i could chirp the tires in 2 & 3rd but the car lacked in torque. throw a passenger in the car, or on a hot humid day it felt like i was dragging a boat anchor. my 9th gen is a different story. its a torque monster in comparison. its a very smooth power band, the only downside is- its a very linear power curve that gets kinda boring to drive. the interior has improved for sure, the suede on my 8th gen was horrendous to keep clean. i'm not gonna be quick to trade in my 9th on a 10th civic though, for me, my car is half way paid off... has full bolt ons, is lowered, is a blast to drive- N/A means theres less shit to go wrong. don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking the 10th gen, but it doesn't do enough for me right now to want to get rid of my current ride.

    Honda took a 1.5 and maxed it out about 60-70% compared to a 9th gen k24 2.4L which after tuning, I feel the k24 is safer with adding mor hp and torque. A small displacement causes each of those cylinders a lot of stress when ppl start tuning for 300hp+ vs a k24. Honda spent a lot of Engineering into balancing power and longevity for the new si which is good but kinda a bummer. But I love all SI’s ❤️

    How is this car really as a daily driver? I'm coming off an '04 TSX that had the A-Spec suspension installed and it was a blast to drive, but I also need any car I own to function well as an every day car, because I'm a one-car guy. The TSX functioned well in both capacities, as well as having the best manual gearbox I've ever used. Oddly enough, the current Civics are about the same size as that car.
    This car is a little off-putting visually from a couple of angles, but overall it looks good and I enjoyed my test drive very much, but it's not until you get the car home and live with it for a while that it's foibles become apparent. I'm just a little concerned that it will be too stiff for everyday use, not that the TSX was plush by any stretch of the imagination. Any opinions would be appreciated.

It's a good canyon carver for spirited driving tho. I get decent MPG at 32 combined. I like the car overall. Per Car and Driver and Motortrend, the 10th gen Si isn't the fastest stock Si.

    • @procivic
      @procivic  7 років тому +2

      We're going to have a follow-up video that analyzes what exactly happened to the turbo on our EXT. In short, the outside temperatures were just too extreme and the car was pushed too hard. If you're crazy like us and want to track a 10th Gen in 100+ degree weather, then an oil temperature gauge or oil cooler will come to the rescue and prevent something like this from happening. The engine and transmission and everything else held up perfectly. FYI, the replacement turbo cost us about $750 and 4 hours of labor (we did the work).

I like my leather; I like my Lane Keep Assistance, etc. and I like the CVT. So...how much trouble is it to swap the turbo so that I can approach the Si's HP with my 10th Gen coupe?
