It’s weird that a taxi with no steering wheel wouldn’t have 4 seat available. How is that supposed to be peak efficiency when most groups of people would have to take two of them?
Well if I wanted to get taxi to work I’d be going by myself. If I’m meeting a friend I’d be going by myself. By 2030 nearly 1/2 women 24-45 will be single and have no kids. So I’m guessing they researched majority of journeys are solo. Which would mean smaller car with less seats be more economical

A driverless vehicle with no manual overrides, no ability to open the doors in the event of an accident or loss of power, and any semblance of “emergency features” done through a screen… what could possibly go wrong?
Everything

And it does not work in snow, rain, fog or night - what a perfect solution.

trains: do I not exist?
So.... that sounds like a streetcar, or a subway, or a linked-bus.
Oh, I see your point now.
There is a specific amount of people you need to have in the train to make it more efficient than the robocab (which seems to be the most efficient car to date). As soon as you have that many people in a train, there is little chance they all wanted to go the exact same route, so they will have a ton of secondary travel that wouldn't have been needed when the train had the ability to go right to final destination. Look up the numbers, and you'll be surprised how competitive a robocab can be when employed at scale and truly scales with the demand and always uses optimal routes.

Promising a small car for $25K and then reneging on that promise and then delivering this, which is similar in size and shape to the Model 3, only uglier and with worse specs, is a sign of warping in the design room. When existing Tesla cars still cannot have unsupervised FSD, it is totally pointless to show another car without a steering wheel. Unsupervised FSD has been promised since 2016, and 8 years later, Tesla as a company is still struggling at level 2. My Performance Y had the FSD engaged three evenings ago. While travelling in the direct sunlight during sunset time, the warning appeared; "Take Control Immediately" The camera only based FSD system could not function due to direct sunlight and asked me (the human driver) to take control immediately. So, if a Robotaxi has no steering wheel and it is facing the direct sunlight, how can Tesla ensure that the camera based FSD system can still work flawlessly? It only takes a couple of high profile crashes with fatalities to ban Tesla from Robotaxi service and loss of trust by the public about Tesla's camera based FSD system.

This is such an incredibly American solution to public transport hahaha
Here in Europe we just have buses and trams that work properly, and far more efficiently.
I keep thinking about Geneva. All tourists given a public transport card, trams everywhere, no need to even think about how to get around.
And, in Europe, I can see regulation protecting us from a future where only a small percentage of the population have any money because the jobs are all done by robots.
You are of course correct. Americans don’t want to be in buses or trams, their idea of independence is really just lots of personal space. I like personal space myself (I’m American), but it doesn’t scale well. Yes, there’s a lot to unpack there.
The idea of moving a 2 tons car for one person is asinine. The mass per passenger makes much more sense with buses and tramways.
@@hananas2 there are rural areas that have really poor transit infrastructure. Like having to wait 2 hours for a bus and not being walking distance from a more frequent route or a train station bad. This could make sense for that kind of situation. I don’t think it should stop mass transit’s progress, but it should fill in where it hasn’t been successfully deployed.
If you live in a deserted area, are there robocabs that are willing to pick you up, and bring you back? They will be driving miles and miles without paying passengers in them.

Driving is SO dangerous, it should be 1 of the last things we allow tech to take over
im sorry but not having an obvious manual override is INSANE. like give me a physical thing to pull (not a screen)
It’s a dead trap
I mean, elevators (effectively) also don't have manual overrides. And I'm sure people DID think that was a bad move at the time.
The fact is that eventually, we would like to have cars that drive themselves 100% of the time. Waymo, for example, still has a wheel and pedals but they're comfortable enough in their tech that they don't put a human driver in the seat anymore, making the controls kind of redundant.
So I think now-ish is a good time to start thinking about the hardware side of self driving cars.
@@DontMe__ elevators don’t drive on busy roads
@@DontMe__ elevators do have overrides, though. There are multiple redundant safety systems on the car, cables, and in the bottom of the elevator shaft that are all designed to stop people from dying in elevator accidents.
This car has no manual override, in an environment far more unpredictable than an enclosed elevator shaft. It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen for either injury or death

Sell stock. Seriously sell stock.
The current evaluation is still based on massive growth (P/E, GAAP EPA). Tesla doesn’t have any advantage left. They don’t grow no more, they don’t invent anything meaningful (I’m not talking about some patents and whitepapers but actual shippable and economical feasible features) for more than 5 years (and those inventions have been made years before they were shipped - so around the time Elon thought restructuring the work force and replacing senior engineers with college graduates - most of them even believing Hyperloop was scientifically feasible although it violates several laws of thermodynamics - to cut costs and corners. Results can be seen).
It is a meme stock.
If you like degen gambling - keep it.
If you want to actually get a moonshot for the next big EV maker - there are better bets like BYD (and honestly speaking: the traditional manufacturers still have a place as they don’t suffer from high fluctuations in orders/ production like start ups do - there are hundreds of CN EV makers for instance, but most of them ship 1 or a handful of products before then becoming irrelevant and eventually going bankrupt again)
So don’t wanna scare you - I’m just fortunate enough that I got out in January 2022 (when Jerome Powell told us about the first rate hike and I knew liquidity is going to dry up - especially for memes before even the growth companies will be hit) and would still say that the stock can easily fall another 80-90% before being bought up in a merger.
There are enough great analyses of the company and how it developed - you might wanna read them instead of believing in vaporware lies (Enron is a joke in comparison).
