As a gay horror fan, I appreciate your comments. 👍🏼
I used to run a video store in the late 80s and the only reason I knew about this movie is because my distributor swore it was good and gave us a free copy. (remember, VHS were $80-90 back then). I made sure my store had a huge horror section, so yeah, gays love horror too. Lol
Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the consistently great content.

I saw this 2 years ago, and like you, it's a name I heard about a number of times over the years. I was VERY excited to see you covering it here! Great job!
I'd recommend seeing the comedy horror film "Wacko" (1982), also with Julia Duffy; I'd just heard of it recently and watched it. It's interesting seeing her quick progression from this movie, to "Wacko", to "Wizards and Warriors", to "Newhart". It's funny to think that she's actually 10 years older than Jimmy McNichol here!
I've never seen Susan Tyrrell play a normal character. She always sticks out, especially in this movie, and to a lesser extent, "Fat City" (1972). If anyone says that Al Pacino really went for it in "Scarface", they never saw her in this movie!
It is interesting that Kelly LeBrock did a number on two of the actors from "Weird Science", who were also in this movie.
BTW, I assumed that this movie was part comedy, yet I never see any write-ups suggesting that it is.

You're right, 1981 has some of the best horror films, but I think 1982 too has the best, like The Thing, Poltergeist, The Entity, Creepshow, Friday the 13th Part 3, Slumber Party Massacre, Pieces, Tenebrae, Basket Case, New York Ripper, and Visting Hours. I hope you do a video on 1982's horror films soon.

    Hi drumdums,
    Jimmy, here,
Its not mentioned at all, as far as any references, to real life events, but the name on the title is famous. Robert Christian Hansen, known in the media as the Butcher Baker, was an American serial killer. Between 1971 and 1983, Hansen abducted, raped, and murdered at least seventeen women in and around Anchorage, Alaska. So Hansen was actually committing murder during the production of this movie! 😳
I've NEVER heard of this movie, and I am an "old school" horror movie addict.

Very good film, especially for Susan Tyrrell's performance. I agree with you, this is not a slasher but a psychological thriller/horror. You definitely got the right idea, particularly how over the top Bo Svensom's homophobia is toward the one sympathetic character in the flick who mentored Billy.
And Susan Tyrell, she's just wired to be over the top, but her acting is so solid, it was her role to interpret how far to ratchet up the sexuality towards her nephew/son. Damn if she isn't HOT in the process, MILFY for sure, in a creepy way. She's brilliant as always, should have been the blueprint for Mrs Voorhees, possibly was.

Hi Lee, I'm feeling drawn to say this. I just wanted to say that I'm turning away from horror, it has been a portal to letting demons in my life and spirit. I'm a Christian woman, who loves Jesus as my savior, and a lot of spiritual warfare has been going on with me. The other day I threw away about $800 or more of horror movies away, it has been tough b.c. horror has always been an outlet to help me with my anxiety, and final girls were ppl I could always relate to b.c. of my own trauma, but the Holy Spirit has led me to turn away from it all. I just want to say that I pray you and your family accept Jesus Christ as savior in your heart, so I see you up there in heaven, God bless, and take care.

I'll always know this film as "Night Warning" because of its home video release which is it's alternate title. I know I sound like a broken record here, but as far as the year 1980 goes, you NEED to see City of the living Dead (which is also on shudder and tubi)

You're done right in the early '80s you can get away with certain dialogue and if you're talking about the dialogue I am thinking of, I advise you to watch the very first episode of dynasty and what Blake Carrington says to his son who plays for the other team and this was on live television I think or prime time or you know a couple million people watching

I think there could be a comparisons to Corey’s mom in Ends with controlling nature in the aunt/mother in Butcher, Baker,…
Also, the town of Haddonfield’s mistreatment of Corey juxtaposed with the Detective’s erroneous theories with Billy

When a filmmaker has reached the end of his movie he needs to end the movie at that point. Putting up words on the screen to explain what happened to the characters afterwards is usually a terrible idea. It certainly is here. It just about ruins what was otherwise an excellent film.

I'm actually surprised we don't see more LGBT-themed horror these days! They're definitely popular within the demographic.

    About one of your points…
LGBTQ people LOVE horror! I got into horror around age 10-11, the same time I learned I was bisexual. I guess it’s something in our DNA 😅
LGBTQ people are behind some of the biggest horror movies of all time too. F.W. Murnau, James Whale, Clive Barker, Don Mancini, Kevin Williamson, Christopher Landon - we live and breathe for this genre ❤

I guess the saddest thing about all this is how we're all put into categories. The older i get the more i see things differently. We shouldnt be labeled gay,straight,etc..BUT just..people. And when you ask someone "what are you" it should just be 1st im a human and 2nd i PREFER this person..OR that person..Love is just love. I dont know the history of where the words "gay" came from NOR have i actually researched. I assume there are no real answers as history is diluted so much..However I feel it all started from religion. Since everything is wrong to those that follow the couple of main religions. I say live your life and leave people alone..Wait..we talking about a movie? lol :D

Honestly my biggest problem with the movie is THE RIDICULOUS TITLE “butcher baker nightmare maker” is a bit stupid, but one thing that woman is CRAZY, she seems all nice, when she’s a killer potential serial killer crazy pedo

I don't like when gay characters are put into movies to show how tolerant the filmmakers are (or at least when it comes off like that). But Big and Little John were my favourite characters in HKills.
