You made me look up what horror movies came out in 1981 and holy shit, 1981 is truly the best year for horror. I have had the arrow release of this for some time and just watched it today. i agree with your review 100%. the uncle reveal just came out of nowhere and really didn't make sense. it's still a fun flick and I love the gore. I just wish the narrative was a little tighter.
Lee you are a man after my own heart!!! NO year was greater for horror than 1981!!! Although I had seen Halloween, my love affair with horror movies started in 1981 when I was a young teen and spent every weekend at the theatre watching the latest horror fest
This movie is awesome. I discovered it a couple years ago after arrow announced the new blu ray release. Great purchase. Loved the scene where the crazy uncle asks the landlady to help carry in the package, and she says it feels like a body is in there. Then, it was 😀. I rewatched a lesser known 80's slasher recently called Eyes Of A Stranger (1981). That is about a woman living with her blind sister, and, she suspects her neighbor is the serial killer that is terrorizing the Miami area. A very young Jennifer Jason Leigh co stars in this movie. Tom Savini does the makeup effects. That's all I'll say without spoiling. I'd recommend this movie, if you haven't already seen it. Awesome video, as always. Thank you 😎😎😎😎😎

I just watched this 2 years ago. I saw it in the 80’s and forgot it completely. I now own it because it was so good. And yes 81 is by far the best year for horror.
Yeah Happy Birthday to Me is just slick and has the most suprising twist i have seen in a slasher film with my only complaint being in which still baffles me is why Ann killed certain friends but not others?
Thanks for this review. I will definitely look out for it. I love 80s horror especially slasher movies. I know this movie will scare me because of my fear for big dogs especially rottweilers. Definitely one of the unfortunately "tier 2" slashers(with a good pinch of giallo) that's been underrated for far too long. Not saying I recommend a remake or anything but even with the recent Arrow video release I'm not quite convinced that enough people will appreciate this film for what it's really worth
I have this movie on my shudder list. I was always hesitant to watch it because I didn't know if I would like it but after seeing your review I'm going to give it a try.

I saw this movie probably 30 years ago and bought the Dark Sky dvd release when it came out. I think it's a great slasher and a little underrated. But I also like Happy Birthday To Me better.
