As for mounting locations, the best spot is further back so you also get a good view of the tow ball! This way even tho you have a spotter when hooking up to a trailer, nothing beats seeing the distance for yourself!
Going from a wagon/hatch (wrx) to a ute with steel tray one of the first mods was a double din deck (when swapping over the setero) with a reversing camera, its sooooo handy plus i can use it as a rear view camera if i have big loads in the tray
That's a good idea, I was contemplating wiring mine up so I can toggle it on manually instead of through the reverse wiring - might swap it around in future or run a separate switch :)
Hi mate, Thanks for sharing your video. I just got exactly the same camera. I wanted to ask you if there is any reason why you welded the positive wire together with the purple reverse cable from the harness of head unit and then you still welded the extension wire you ran to the positive wire of the reverse light at the back of the car? is it necessary to connect the positive cable to both head unit and reverse lights? Thank you
Hey, mate. Im looking at installing one of these as it came with my headunit. To clarify, you spliced the Head Unit's purple reverse cable into the 12v red of the camera? And then the 12v into the reverse lights for power?
hey bro i have the same verse camera, onto a pioneer headunit AVH series, for some reason when i put it in reverse the screen doesnt trigger to reverse with a video feed, but when i put camera view on it turns on... i have played with the settings and have got it to trigger when i put it in reverse but it doesnt display anything it just has a black screen.. so in order for the video to turn on i have to change the setting to camera view and when i put it in reverse then it works
what tool did you use at 6 minute mark to separate the insulation on the wire you t-soldered onto? That would be a very great tool to have. as ive always needed to do that step using my fingers and razor blade.
Hi mate, they're still working well, one of the 6 locks plays up now and then and I have to wriggle the handle and press unlock again but other than that all good!
Hey mate, nice job! I got my RCAMavic today to place the old one from the Aurion. Just want to ask what type of cable did you use to extend the power cable from the headunit all the way to the back of the reverse light? What is the one that you got? Am I looking for a specific voltage, ampere, or gauge?
@@explorebound Hey mate! Just a quick question, you wired the 12v to the tail light, however in the instruction it said to wire it to ACC (+12v). If I wire it to ACC then would it overheat the camera as it is always on?
I chose to power the camera with the reverse light wiring out of convenience mainly, seeing as I was already running that wire to signal the head unit to activate the camera feed - I'd say powering it through ACC power would be fine, I can't imagine it burning out the camera having it powered up while your keys are in, that way you could activate the camera when not in reverse too.
Haha I actually mentioned to Bianca just the other day that we should do one! Been so busy that the year seems to be slipping away! 😂 No guarentees but if we can put aside some time for filming this weekend we'd love to do one. 🙂
Hey dude, is that the Sony XAV-AX series head unit? been looking at getting one for my VZ Commie. looks like it interacts with the reverse camera good, how does it fair in everything else??
Hi mate, yep the head unit is the AX3000 - fantastic unit that works well. My partner has the AX5000 which is also good, did a bit of a comparison of both units here if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/asx6IVT8PDw/v-deo.html

Great suggestion for anyone who tow for sure! Not too relevant for me as I rarely ever tow.

@@explorebound yeah, not 100% on yours but mines thru my kenwood deck as i have a "cam" button ahaha
Love your style mate - great video
Hey mate. I’ve got the same camera. It’s pretty good. Bit grainy at night due to low light but geez it’s good to have.
Keep up the great work
Hey mate, yep I've noticed the same thing at night time, not unusable but would definitely benefit from a bit of additional light!
Thanks for this review mate, it's exactly what I needed. I'm looking at a Sony XAV and RCAMAVIC camera setup.
No worries at all mate - glad it helped!
6:08 Soldering wires in a car is considered bad practice, you're supposed to crimp the wires
also --- if you're soldering, better to use heat shrink instead of insulation tape.

Yes. The positive feeds the camera and tells the head unit when to switch to camera input

Man i pulled my center console out broke every plastic clip and atill could find the reverse wire
I get My power from reverse light

Hey mate, did you definitely tap into the reverse feed for the head unit as well as plugging the camera in?

That's a wire stripper similar to this: amzn.to/3Wf2Thr Definitely a good tool to have!
Hi. I also living in Perth . I bought same item yours . Is for black line(head?) and red line(reverse line? . Where I need connect ?
How are your canopy central locking going my haven't work properly since I got them
Hi mate, they're still working well, one of the 6 locks plays up now and then and I have to wriggle the handle and press unlock again but other than that all good!
@@explorebound it's weird I have to keep resetting mine every other day
At tail end how do add power to exist reverse light
What websites are recommend for getting ranger parts?
I purchase most mechanical parts from my local Veale auto parts store, but usually purchase accessories through Amazon or similar.

Hi mate, I just used 10A Narva single core automotive wiring from Supercheap Auto.

Nice and easy
Nice one.
Hi mate u should consider using electrical tesa cloth tape wont fall off after year or so or dry out just rap it over what u done cheap insurance
Hey mate, thanks for the advice, will look into it!
No Christmas Giveaway this year guys?

Good to see PPE being worn😄
Good install but the camera quality is the lowest iv come across. The kenwood cameras are far more better for detail. Change it you won’t regret it
howdy-? fellow.wow!useful upload. see u around~ 😇
Great job mate. Let me know when you are in Hervey Bay QLD think I've got a job for you 😉😂
the music was really annoying . sorry pal
