It’s so strange to see Shroud be such an apologist over a game that is so far from being the home run that gamers thought it would be. Not saying it’s a terrible game, but his takes around this game are so very confusing.

A lot of streamers they'll talk about how it's dated the AI is terrible the graphic quality and art is inconsistent in quality the combat is bad so on so forth. I feel if it wasn't Bethesda this would be rated no more than a 7 max by most reviewers and streamers they are expected the modders to make it a 8-10 which is honestly pretty fucked up that is the expectation that unpaid gamers have to fix AAA games right out the box.

I don't know what part of the video you're talking about, but if he said that because someone didn't like the game, but didn't say it's bad, then I don't see the problem. This game is to good to be called "bad". The only thing that is bad is the first 10 hours of the main story. It does a complete 180 after that, and it becomes a good story.
I don't agree with Shroud when he says that the first 6 hours is the game, because that's only technically true. You see a lot of the gameplay aspects (not all of them), but learning things until they stop being overwhelming, and having having some basic perks, does make the game feel a lot better, because you finally understand what you're doing and you start having fun. There's a lot to learn at the beggining, and it is more overwhelming than fun. It's kinda like start playing League Of Legends by yourself. Your first match is never going to be your best match. You don't know what's going on. You may like what you see, but it gets much better once you understand it.

I feel like i am genuinly the only person who fully expected starfield to simply be Skyrim/Fallout, set in space... Like i expected that from the start, was still hyped for it, and got exactly what i wanted.
I have been a massive fan of bethesda since playing Morrowind and Oblivion on the original Xbox and again on PC, and i loved Fallout 3 and Skyrim on Xbox 360. And enjoyed Fallout 4 on PC.
I also happen to be a massive fan of the space sim genra, games like Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, No Man Skyes, i mean honestly the list of good space sims is long.
My point is I knew this wasn't going to be a space sim going in, as much as i would have liked it to be.
To really explore that genra you would have to sacrifice other elements of gameplay such as role playing, and to really explore the 1st person RPG genra you would have to sacrifice other elements such as the space sim side of it.
Boils down to the game could have been a great 1st Person RPG, or a great Space Sim, or a mediocre Space Sim/1st Person RPG, that kinda fails at both,
You can't make a game that is every genra all at once and great at every genra, its not going to work. Space Sims are complex enough to warrent their own games as are 1st Person RPG's
In the end Bethesda set out to make a Bethesda style, 1st person RPG, set in space with a focus on role playing. Just like eldercrolls, just like fallout, but set in space.... Thats exactly what they said, thats exactly what i expected, thats exactly what i got.

I think part of the negativity around this game is people playing this game on their PC/monitor. This isn't a competitive game, this is meant to be played with a controller while sitting on your couch.

I usually agree with Charlie on 99% of what he says, but I have to disagree with him. Sometimes you land on a planet, and there's nothing around for like a mile. I landed on a planet and like 6 or 7 POIs spawned within 1000m of where my ship landed. There was a colony outpost where I snuck behind the vendor and stole some really decent weapons. There was this lady with a pet animal, after we talked I stole her Wendigo spaceship. There was this group of Freestar Smugglers at a Oil Control Pipe site, where you can lie and say you are the person they're waiting for and you can take off with the items they give you, there was a Pirate Outpost where when I got there, a Spacers spaceship landed and they got into conflict and I joined in then stole their spaceship, there was so much stuff to do just within the radius of where I landed. It just depends on what POIs are generated when you land. With that being, I do understand how some planets are empty, but that's what it would be like on a lot of them if you were to travel to most planets. Yes, some will most likely have life, but a lot of them will be like that.

Cyberpunk was ok, i wouldn't say it was a game changer either. Story was too short. Side quests were pretty lackluster save for a few especially pertaining to the ally relationship quests. Truth be told Cyberpunk and anything Bethesda had are quite different. The value is in storytelling vs just stupid fun.
Bethesda was never good at storytelling, I don't even think they make their games with it in mind. They're RPGs, the type where you forget about the main quest and derails into all kinds of significant/insignificant side missions where you just want to progress your character. They usually rely on that, world lore, and faction politics to keep you invested. Doesn't even have cutscenes.
So who's to say cyberpunk is better than Skyrim? Hmmm you already argued that apparently "bugs are subjective." Which makes little sense. Then I guess you ought to also think that "which one is better is subjective." - pretty much nullifying this whole conversation.

To be fair when i played rust for the first time it took me nearly 60 hours of gameplay to craft my first gun. Thats 60 hours of learning not to use wood doors, not to use twig foundations, not to build in the cold environment, not to build near a clan etc. I think its probably the only game I've ever played where it took that much suffering to find enjoyment.

14:10 some planets have 8 animal species and 8 plant species. Look for planets that have fauna tagged as “abundant”. All 8 will not be the same biome though. You will have to select different landing zones and see what the biome says. “Mountains”, “deciduous forest”, “rocky desert”, “savannah”, etc.
When you find a planet with “abundant” fauna, select very hard difficult before landing. This will load in tons of high level alien species. Now, once on the surface, out of your ship, select very easy difficultly. You can boost your levels by just killing alien species. Level 70 cockroach thing or herbivore gives you the same XP as killing a level 70 human with armor and a gun.

As much fun as I've had in this game and as much as it absolutely gets right... it gets plenty of things wrong, too: exploration becoming tedious because of the procedural generation taking away the fun of finding unique things out in "the wild" (and lots of running/boosting in between with nothing to find except resources), the overabundance of ballistic weapons versus the very few energy and melee options, the melee weapons being the exact same gameplay-wise (no difference in attack speed versus damage, no two-handed melee weapons, no shields) and not having the ability to properly mod them, the core companions all being do-gooders without any appreciable differences between them when it comes to making choices (where are the morally grey/flat-out bad guy companions, and where the hell are factional companions?!), the lack of a survival mode, and the removal of the VATS-style combat function when it makes even more sense than it does in Fallout and we even have a goddamned scanner all stand out to me as disappointments and massive missed opportunities.

    • @m.poppins4843

Why do people expected "exploration" to be any different? I mean its space bro. Its mostly empty, and furthermore its an already explored part of space with most likely nothing unique or exotic left to find out. Did you really expect to find vigilent of stendarr roaming the lands looking out for the vampire menace every 250 metters? Space doesnt work like that you dont just "walk out" your outpost to wander around, or land on a random and deadly planet hoping you'll find something out.

Believe it or not, realism doesn't trump everything, especially in video games. Fun is more important and the realism comes at the (severe) expense of fun when it comes to the exploration or lack thereof.

funny how you protect Starfield so much "They show just the bad things" so where people show just the good things of a "Mass Effect Andromeda" "Cyberpunk 2077" "Hogwards Legacy" "Elden Ring" and so on, first you see just the bad things but in Starfield they missleaded people to get as much Pre orders as possible, Bethesda and Microsoft themselfs Hyped the game and promised the people a good experience and allone the reviews that was 100% fake who show 10/10 or 5/5 or even 9/10 or 4/5 will be too much for that game.
Starfield made the combat a lil bit better in some points but that the enemys are bullet Sponges is crazy in a RPG where you are roleplaying and did not build the DPS build just to sit there for like 5 - 15 minutes to shoot a enemy and see how slow his life drains meanwhile the AI is bugged out for the Enemy or they shoot you from miles away when i was thinking "holy i cant even see you or aim via my Scope".
The System Requirements that this game is eating is strange, this outdated graphic and this lack in AI and this small maps compare to other Bethesda games, and this huge Hardware Hungry game ?
Loading screens that are as long as in cyberpunk 2077 ( yes CB2077 has them if you start the game or do fast travel), but you will have them like 1 - 2x in a hour, meanwhile in Starfield you will see the loading screen like 30 times in the first hour and 30 is the lowest number i took.
The time when i figured out how the ship building was working i had already 30 hours in this game, when i saw that i can just click on the mission and fly to that system without Going from a Building to the ship, enter it and fly in to the space then to the system you want to but because you can not fly that faar you have to fly to other systems before so how many loading screens it took me just to get to the mission ? yes about 9 if you are lucky and dont took the wrong door or Teleport point on the way to your ship.
The Jetpack was something i never experienced because i never got the perk that for and i did not know why i can not use the Jetpack before, i was even looking in the menu for keybinding where the key was for the JP but did not found it.
Then i started a new Game because i found out that the ship i want to use is useless or i can not use things because i dont has the perks so i started a new game, this time i chose the parents perk and i never found them again because i did not wanted to go to such amount of loading screens and slow walking to find them, yes i can google that but still i want to explore and not to google if i play a game.
the first planet i landed on was nice, i was thinking yes now i explore some caves or something like i did in Fallout 4 ... after like 20 minutes of walking around i saw how bad it was, scanned every monster and every Mineral and it was pointless.
The Missions are so boring and i dont want to do them because they are boring, the speach system is so boring that i dont want to use it and if i fail because i go the "I want to fly the ship Route Skill Tree" i dont care.
Then i had my Side Mission quest where i had to fight like 20 ships and all i can do is doing nothing, after like 3 hours of trying i found out if i hide behind a Small Station, i can shoot the other ships and they can not hit me, the Space Ship Combad is so bad and feel so bad that i had the feeling to play the first starcomander ever made when i remembered how awesome the space combad in NoManSky was.
Then i build my first base and again, nobody tells you how to do it or where to get anything, then i gave it up because when the game lacks in teaching you mechanics so why i has to put efford to google it how it is working when the devs themself gave a damn how they are working.
This was really the last Bethesda game i ever got pre release or even at launch day, the disapointment is there and games like Mass Effect or Cyberpunk 2077 or NoManSky Got destroyed that they did not deliver a good game, meanwhile when i see people speak about Starfield like you do "Yea the game is good, not a 9/10 but a mid game".
The game was standard 8 years ago at max. but in 2023 this game is so outdated and so bad made with so less efford in to it that it is more a scam then even GOLUM was, because the developer of GOLUM never Hyped ther game like Bethesda or Microsoft did with Starfield.

The modular building of ships with crew was really cool but has little function in the game, the planet-side base-building is just extra busy work and space flight is dogshit. I think it's a good game, certainly a good Bethesda game but the "new stuff" isn't the way to go. Inserting mini-games and things that are popular in other games didn't improve the game at all, if anything they hindered my enjoyment and distracted from what is otherwise a pretty good RPG.

I disagree with him on the 10/10 rating score. 10/10 does not and should not mean perfect. A 10/10 is something I would consider amazing. A masterpiece. And a masterpiece does not mean absolutely perfect.
With that said, I wouldn't rate Starfield a 10/10. It feels more like a 8/10 to me. I've been enjoying the game immensely and it's pretty much exactly what I expected, a Bethesda style RPG, but in space. But it fails to implement many QoL features, I find the procedural generation boring, and I was personally affected by numerous bugs that prevented me from completing some (side)quests. If these concerns were addressed prior to release, this game could've easily been a 9/10 to me.

I completely agree about the main story, but holy shit all of the faction side quests, and a lot of the other side quests, are absolute bangers. The whole UC quest could have been it's own game.

The way I look at the map is I feel like it's a scan of the world. Your watch scans the terrain and that's the map. You scan the surface of a planet and that's your local map more less.

Some side quests can softlock you, loading screens,Emil's writing as a whole, dialog options are 3 "correct" ones 4th where you are dick and 5th where you ask question about topic, choices don't matter in 95% situations, gunplay falout 4, game optimization even on stronger rigs is sad, cant fly a ship, cant land a ship in a game about space and exploration,AI reacts to nothing if you could pull out nuclear warhead and point that at people they would not care, meanwhile stealing cup of coffee you get a headshot...

So many negative reviews out there, makes me sad these people didn’t get to experience this game for what is was because they got so caught up it what they wanted it to be. Still has so much potential to grow into one of the best games of this generation without a doubt.

If they can do like cyberpunk, who turned their tables and the game is actually Amazing now, then they’ll be a step above, as for now, the game is one of the lamest trash I ever played, uninstalled it after 22 hrs and will be getting dust on my library.

to say this game had too small of a dev cycle is crazy. It took 8 years for it to come out. If you can't make a fleshed out and well made game in almost a decade of time being a studio backed by Microsoft of all things then maybe you're just not a good game studio. Shroud just really wanted to glaze a polished turd here when besides the combat improvements, Bethesda regressed on quality in every other part of this game.

I don’t know about his summer books. Haha you could ask him from them.
Also you can’t flame the 12 hours thing as like if some one does not clarify what gets better after 12 hours then how would they know. So clearing it up is the only right thing there, and after that if they still use it then you blame them for miss interpreting what was said. Other wise they don’t have the knowledge to know.

I mean it's a good game. Is what it is. People don't like the Long stories and slower pace.... unfortunately can't please everyone, I remember when The New Dead Island came out everyone hated it because it was too "short" and they just didn't like the gameplay. But regardless everyone will complain about a game that they have no actual interest in.

Was marketed for years as huge open galaxy, cites and planets. Its not open world, not even open cities. Shooting is fun for awhile, i only use no gravity magic, dont know why to use the others. Pretty graphics, nice photos to take, no idea why if its not open world and so many loading screens it cant do 60FPS, but at least 30 feels ok. Exploration is painful, have to use crappy jet packs and get hurt constantly, no vehicles and mining makes no profit or sense at all.

My guess is that Bethesda put a lot of initial work into this game with their Stone Age engine, so they stuck with it even after they knew how limiting it would be.

8 years in development is not pretty fast compared to what we got for BG3 (6 years) with almost the exact same employee count, bg3 100 million budget while starfield is over 200 million budget... we got blank faces and loading screens.

Part of me hates the exclusivity because I wanted to give it a try, but at the same time, I feel like I'd be disappointed because based on what I saw, it gives fallout 4 vibes, and I'm not a fan of sci-fi at all, so I don't think I'd care much for it.

They used the exact same enginge to make this game as they used in Skyrim. They updated it, and they added AI and some other things, it's way less buggy then it used to be. But with this game we just need to expect that there will be bugs on launch. However I've had a great experience so far 26 hours in and have owned the game for 5 days, I'm addicted and sucked into it. However, I have only done the first 4 campaign missions. I keep getting distracted by the faction missions and the exploration factor. 9/10 Can't put it down
